  1. Nah, that's no fun. But I will say it's not -just- about choices. What you do in fights and the overworld sometimes affects it too. A while. I think it's okay to have bonus backstory like that locked in optional scenarios. It's some mild replay value. And I think it's pretty exciting when players discover something they didnt see before. Hey, it's almost like that even happened in this topic. ^^ You mean that isn't where you keep all your hats? I'll get Moon, and go for Nyabbii (fire starter; given that it's English name is stupid I've elected to ignore it). so cute. but delphox and swampert have made me distrust cute starters' evolutions. so my hopes remain low. Probably. Not that Team Meteor would have much reason to exist in Hoenn.... Meteor Falls???? idklol As Kuro said, I'm not planning on it. Mostly because I'm trying to minimize how much I pad out development time by going back and changing/adding things, but there's also the concerns about bugs and stuff. I'm sure those can be ironed out in time though. Regardless, we'll support and showcase mods after the game is complete, and I imagine that will be one of the most popular ones. Yep. In fact even in the online league after Cain left she flat out took up his same strategy (which, by the way, was a weather-based doubles team. usually sun, sometimes rain.) But certain things were probably hers to begin with too, such as Nidoqueen and Dragalge. Similar to Kuro's. Not really excited for the games themselves because XY/ORAS were just mind-numbingly easy. It's hard for me to take that seriously. I did like many of Gen 6's new Pokemon though, so I'll still look forward to those. what the fuck Amy, because she'd probably understand after I explained it to her. That's an interesting thing to ask now, isn't it? I'll be notifying the DEA about this inquiry.

Clover really did an excellent job with this battle. The music gets you amped up for the battle, and the fact that you reuse all of your abilities makes you feel awesome. This might be one of my favorite boss battles of all time.

  5. So I put a bunch of stuff together today and realized there's like, seven rather gaping mistakes I'm going to need to fix before progressing so that was pretty disheartening. But~! I put my nose to the grindstone and spent a lot of time hammering everything back into place. Here's the result of today's hard work:
  6. It is quite easy to dismiss more tangible evidence and logic under banner of the double standard, isn't it? This is the fallacy we call 'false equivalence' in action: Indeed, both of these arguments are similar. That does not mean the conditions of each are similar: In the issue of gun control, we start with a crime/problem that already veritably exists (the US's escalated rates of gun violence), and the solution is argued to possibly prevent such a thing. In the issue of bathroom usage, we start with a problem that could exist but currently does not, and the proposed remedy to which has caused more problems instead. Next up: Do your opinions on two very different issues have the same number of syllables? If not, you may be rhetorically inconsistent!
  7. HAH! Summers relaxing! Ahaha. That's good. That's a good one! We like that one. That part's still under during E15, but by the time you get back to the city it's finished. (otherwise we wouldn't be able to see victoria..) Not really, no. There'll be other stuff to do. It's possible if content is really lacking, but I don't plan to. Isn't Beryl like... the only flashy place before then?? I think it's important to have at least one area the HM is needed before giving it to the player. Gives 'em something to look forward to going back to. But as such there's no reason to move it forward. continuing to poke away at the previously mentioned optional area. unfortunately even mapping it is like six layers of stupid annoying for various reasons ...which i guess is why i wanted it out of the way now. but it's happening.
  8. It will probably just be teachable to the HGSS set + anything that learns it through levels/breeding. I hope so. That'll depend on what sort of hats he's got in his back pocket. The goal is that by the end of the game move distribution, including tutors, will mimic what's available competitively in the current gen. (so yes.) What Ikaru said-- but in addition to that because for those that didn't know it was an inside joke, it hurt the perception of the characters involved. Saphira's really not a model type. That's genuinely not part of her design, but new players coming in and seeing that naturally accepted it as a thing for her. honestly i dont even remember how i got that idea, it was when I was drawing the region map (which preceded any intention to actually make a game), and I started thinking to myself about the story of this area where space was distorted because ??? and it caused the rail to break apart and trapped people there. when i was making the map/puzzle itself (...turned out a lot smaller than i'd originally envisioned tbh...) my goal was to take that area and turn it into a place where people could get lost, feel like they were walking in circles... which, in fact, they were, but that was also the way to progress... and feel that they, like the conductor, were trapped. it turned out pretty well excepting the small size and the lag. that puzzle is not a shining example of effective coding though. it's basically completely overfit to the map so when you step on certain spots it just activates one of a number of switches to make trees appear or not. if you were to break sequence (not possible without debug/cheating) it could get really messy. almost all dialogue was edited. the story stays the same. maybe some minor differences, don't remember. there are a number of choices that influence multiple characters. oftentimes at the cost of each other. the ending won't change dramatically based on relationships. certain story choices will unlock different or more scenes up to an alternate ending. the alternate ending can be reached in post-game if those choices weren't made-- but it'll be a lot of work. Games are assumed canon. Details are left fuzzy for breathing room. Arceus created world-- but it had to have come from somewhere, even if the method of his arrival was created retrospectively.
  9. the second titania one speaks to me. also since tania is the one who usually wears a white tank definitely imagining that amy commandeered it from her there, which sounds about right really.

  12. some more personal thoughts that i didn't necessarily want in the main announcement: the hardest part of making this field was the graphics themselves, because it actually went through like five different variations before i settled on the current one, and i just really didn't like the look of any of them... i'd spent like six hours one night, had it finished, it was great, loaded it in game and the orientation was totally off so I had to redo the whole thing and it was just ... all bad from there. when i started looking for real gardens for inspiration I found the hanging gardens and was just completely awestruck. seriously, look up the pictures on google, they're absolutely gorgeous. but i'm really excited about that much of it in terms of attributes (what i've taken to calling each individual bullet point of a field effect) there was a lot i held back on, cut out, etc. don't remember specifics at this point but whatever. i'm almost certainly going to have to make balance changes to this field until it plays fairly but obviously those changes won't be happening for a while yet.
  13. Throughout development I've alluded repeatedly to the frustrations of a certain field effect that was hell to make simply for the fact that it was 5x as much work as every other field. This is its story. Based off of wisteria hanging gardens, the Flower Garden Field is the most complex Field Effect in the game. Throughout the course of a single battle, it grows and changes based on the action. For those who can use its power, tending the garden is necessary. For their opponents, unless they're able to pull the weeds, facing the fully fledged flowers' force will feel far and away like an exercise in futility. so i mean, honestly, please just burn this field down. just, do it. you'll be doing me a favor. you'll be doing yourself a favor. you'll be doing literally everyone a favor. except whoever you're battling against i guess. but they probably deserve it anyway. The Flower Garden Field has 5 stages it can progress through, each one with increasingly potent effects. Because of this, communicating the exact effects of each stage is a rather muddy process. While handled well by the new field effect app in-game, I've done my best to organize it below. Do bear with the clutter. A doozy, right? But if that looks like a lot, remember that most of those effects are just similar forms of each other scaling upwards with each stage. Though inching ever closer to completion, E16 is still some time away. Make no mistake though, despite the massive downtime, the project still has a pulse. As does the episode. Good luck with that, by the way. Until then, may the fresh scent of flowers protect you always.
  14. All E16 animations are now done. Have a Psychic attack, courtesy of Inuki.
  15. took some item stuff down, thanks! incense items have already been distributed throughout the game btw the beach and island aren't changing much, they just have new maps because of the water cleaning. the sand color changes because the beach is less polluted as a whole. the grey from the ash is obviously still there. today i made the graphics for the aforementioned sidequest area which was.... a lot easier than i thought it was going to be (largely because some references of real-world stuff i found showed it was a lot simpler than i expected). figuring out the mapping details is gonna be a pain in the butteroni and cheese though. additionally, here's the result of what inuki jan and i worked on today. we spent a lot of time on it, but we're really pleased with the final product here:
  16. Percentage bop. All the remapping is done. Apophyll and Azurine were pretty quick (aside from recoloring every grain of sand...... twice..............) apophyll color comparison (and magical transformation because it amuses me) below Before I break into eventing, which is going to be the next grind (I have to change pretty much every teleport event in the city, not to mention all the NPC dialogues) I'll be mapping a new sidequest area connected to the city. Concurrently I'm also going to have Inuki starting on another sidequest dungeon since I've realized I really don't need to micro-manage optional areas. For when I do eventing, I need more items and stuff to throw into clever places. I haven't really kept track of it, so what are some items in the game that you guys don't have access to (or don't have -enough- access to, like stones)? Mega-stones and TMs need not apply.
  17. Misery and despair. And some cute stuff. Idk, I saw some interview question a while ago from some high ranking nintendo dude that said they wanted to dial back on the complexity of the game a bit, which I'm really worried is going to mean drastic changes or cutting a lot of stuff out. Between that and the yawnfest that was X and Y, I don't have high expectations. I pronounce it tih-TAWN-ya but I don't think she was ever asked when she was around which way was correct. Shelly- As was alluded to, it's unfortunately not possible due to technical limitations. If it were possible she -totally- would, as she was known to name some of her pokemon after challengers even in the online league. Bugsy- nope Animations- RMXP animates them from a sheet of graphic cells. There's an animation editor built into RMXP, but we use one tailored to Pokemon games that's built into Essentials. For handling the graphics, we use Graphics Gale. Music- For composition, I use Fruity Loops. For editing music/sounds, I use GoldWave. Development- Given enough time, absolutely. I mean, Reborn is mostly my work. Until Episode 9 (so, through Noel) I was working entirely alone. And until E13 (through Charlotte) I was still the only one directly working on the project. Presently I still handle almost everything but I've outsourced stuff like scripting and animations for the sake of time. Even if I was the only one working on this, it could still be done, as the only thing I wouldn't have eventually been able to do myself would have been some of the new script features coming in E16 (as scripting is not my strong suit). That's not to talk myself up or dismiss others' contributions as they've been a great help and will probably save some ridiculous number of months in the end, but the point is that you're asking if it's possible-- but it's pretty much already a thing. If I can do it, you can do it. I usually do not code from scratch since like I said, that's my weak point. I can never remember syntax and stuff so I pretty much just copy paste and edit. That said, most of what I need to do (such as field effects) is just edits anyway, so that's fine. There are some things coded from scratch coming in the next episode and done by Kuro, such as the updated weather system. In a case like contests, you'd probably have to write a section and method for it yourself, yes. And then other code would have to be edited to tie it all together.

  19. 40% of that was gathering and editing sound effects for all animations to use The other 60% is the 235 animations for this block. Music updates were really quick. Mapping not so much. Eventing is usually not bad but in this episode will be a hot mess and take a while because lol entire city Story is usually decently quick in itself (unless there are story branches) I have reviewed way too many animations to pick a favorite but as for the ones I worked on, I really like my Brick Break just because the spinning-strike thing turned out exactly how I'd imagined it. Meteor Mash maybe a close second. Beryl's hardly a nightmare. In fact it's arguably been one of the more fun ones since there's a little more creative liberty with it. The entire west half was basically a blank slate. I did say that at some point I might do that-- E19 ends the game and then smaller patches over time add post-game content. That's not off the table, but I'm currently leaning towards it coming out all at once. Heh. That would be nice, I'd feel less concerned about it taking this long. Do the other projects I'm working on count? Let's say yes. Hiding work it is. Whee. heh, as if. ^~^ Don't get comfy. The original plan was to do them in three chunks from 16-18. Once the E16 batch is finished, they'll get a head start on the E17 ones. However, the E17 animations won't be included in the E16 release (unless they are also all finished in time...for better or worse.) This somewhat comes down to personal philosophy, but I disagree. Firstly, I don't believe in 'evilness'. No one believes themselves to be evil. Sometimes ruthless, sometimes selfish, sometimes harmful-- yes. But evil is just a word pulled out of fairy tales and ignorance, and blown to its extremes. Whether or not they are explained, bad guys are often very close to human. When you pull the sword from your opponent's chest, it is a mistake not to look into the last light of their eyes and see them for who they are. He may have been a tyrant, he may have killed thousands. He was also a boy who lost both his mother and his childhood to the righteous drunken hand of his father. He learned violence by example and retaliation, and so he carved out for himself-- since no one else would-- a world in which he could truly be safe. The tyrant dies a child still, crying amidst a tantrum that ensnared the lives of a nation. There was no other end for him. It is terrifying not to know why one does things that hurt others. I believe it is more terrifying to learn that some people are so cloaked in fear, envy or lust, that they cannot possibly do anything else. And it is still more terrifying to look into that person's dying eyes, and see yourself reflected in them. #juststarlightthings ...anyway, Beryl. When I was looking at destroyed Beryl's maps trying to figure out what would be built for them, I saw a pattern of bizarre and winding angles in the streets. Although that was originally just to give a maze like quality to its ruins, I though it was interesting and tried to run with it in contrast to the rather uniform roads the rest of the city now has. There's still some loose ends to tie up, but the city's just about there now. Also a moment of silence for all the students living in Beryl who have to walk all the way to the bloody Onyx ward for school each day.
  20. That's uh... unfortunately that's just really not how it works. Not if we want it to be done well, anyway. It will always be a Staraptor, in his heart. Although Sigmund's methods are questionable, most of his employees are hardly anything out of the ordinary. They probably applied like any other job. In fact I basically work as an orderly at my day job... night job. Whatever. Some of his employees will end up being recruited by Team Meteor (we've already seen John) but that was their choice after being offered a deal by Team Meteor separately. Sigmund himself had less to do with that, aside from the original connection to them. Yep. Otherwise I probably wouldn't have thought to put it in. i don't remember the details though. Most memorable* NPCs will probably return somewhere**, whether or not it's obvious that it's them. * entirely subjective ** also not a promise heh im a little slow here huh To be clear, icons are what appears in your party menu/pc-- not the overworld sprites.
  21. "Enabling" can describe dysfunctional behavior approaches that are intended to help resolve a specific problem but in fact may perpetuate or exacerbate the problem. A common theme of enabling in this latter sense is that third parties take responsibility or blame, or make accommodations for a person's harmful conduct (often with the best of intentions, or from fear or insecurity which inhibits action).

  22. I can personally attest that Rainbow-made hugs are among the highest calibur of hugs you will find here on Reborn. I hope everyone treats the new standing Supreme Chancellor of Hugs with as much respect as she deserves for her hard work and hugging.

  24. Pshaw, easy. After the one from persona 4 that's cake. Uhhhh ish. It will probably always be a recurring problem or at least something I have to keep in mind. Jasper is done, so Beryl's the last city ward left. Admittedly it's a doozy... but that's okay! Also almost done with all of this episode's animations. There's just a few stragglers left. Have a Twineedle, courtesy of Smeargle. In the end, we've remade about 235 animations. Counting stuff like multi-hits and animations when used by the enemy, those were spread across about ~275 files. Coming to the end of this, we have over 400 files for those same 235 animations. That's not really meaningful so much as it is a fun fact, but what it does imply is that ~130 of those now have enemy-use animations when they didn't before, and that means better quality overall.
  25. Nah, she had to clean up it or get outta there. She's still kickin' though -.- It's difficult for me to answer this because different people experience sensations differently-- but due to the limitations of our own perspectives and research, it's unclear how much of that is a result of physiology or psychology. More clearly. Person A likes chocolate and Person B doesn't. Now if Person A had Person B's body, would they still dislike it? Are they experiencing the same sensation and judging it differently, or are they experiencing two very different things as a result of having different taste buds? I don't know the answer to this and I doubt anyone definitively does. My personal theory is that it's a combination of both physiology and psychology. So perhaps chocolate tastes different to Zero than it did to Eve in her own body. It does not taste as bitter, for instance. Eve may sense this and either form a new opinion of it, or maybe her impression of chocolate is already stained by past dislike and she still decides it's not for her. Amy and I don't talk as much anymore, but we used to be good friends. So obviously I like her and stuff, you know? definitely also stole her style of emoticons ^~^ Serra and I have only spoken in training and passing so I don't know the actor that well (although she is gorgeous, like dayum).... but as a character, I think she has one of the more cohesive themes in the game (speaking in terms of type/personality/how that shows up in battle). Unfortunately, that hasn't translated into a particularly interesting role in the story, but I'll see what I can do for her. There isn't a single one, but we get stuff like candy and ice cream instead. Very possible actually! There have been 8-direction movement scripts for RMXP for years. However, they don't belong in a 3rd gen-styled pokemon game. I'm not really sure what you mean about the second part, but sugimori art is usually concept/promotional material rather than appearing in-game. Even if they did, it would just reform. That stuff is a little more stubborn... but they'll get to it someday That would be nice, huh? Confirming it was Scizor. What was said is correct. There's no use translating before the final patch though, otherwise all that work would have to be redone with each release.
