Yeah, so we actually tried to work on Linux during the beta, however it seems like Linux handles javascript a little bit differently somehow??? Everything is just. broken to pieces on Linux so we had to set that aside for now. In theory it's definitely something we can do, but I didn't want to break windows/mac versions mid-testing, and I'm probably going to have to wait until I get a linux machine to set up to test things on myself (which we have plans to do in the near future). So like. Eventually, for sure.

Only if you still intend to play! There's no new content, just bug fixes.

We're finally started! If you haven't already played it, download links and information for the game can be found on this page: http://www.starlightdivide.com/ I want to take some time and appreciate everyone's support, and everyone's patience. This has been a long time coming, but it's taken a long time even just since last year, so thank you to everyone who played the alpha or beta, and an extra thanks to everyone who's supported me and the project so far-- and then once more for everyone who's been waiting for E19, for bearing with us long enough to get to this point! And this is just the starting point of a new adventure. We've got a lot of work to do all around, but I hope it'll be worth it in the end. And now, back to Reborn...

One newer addition to the community's rulebook is this-- Moderation is left to be at the discretion of the moderating team. While we would love to be able to list and objectively outline every potential infraction and misstep one could make for the clarity and comfort of the community, this is obviously impossible. Even major world governments haven't figured out how to do that in a meaningful way yet, and we are but a humble gaming website. As such, we reserve the right to moderate the community and handle issues case by case with the understanding and faith that we as a team continue to do so in as fair of a manner to all parties as is possible. Consequences and warnings are typically agreed upon by the team at large before enacted, particularly if there is any ambiguity involved. Therefore, consequences and such should not be considered as coming from one singular person, but from the team itself, and personal biases need not apply. If you feel like you have been wronged by a mod, you are welcome to submit feedback to myself as an admin directly. Private messages are an option, as is the contact form. The contact form can be used anonymously by logging out or using an incognito window, and entering a fake email. It is not appropriate to raise a public issue over it; please discuss it with us directly and maturely and accept the consequences. We recognize that as a small team of people in a large community we cannot catch every issue, and so we always appreciate getting reports from users who see something that might be wrong or that has caused them or others personal discomfort. You can use the Report button for this on the forum, or if it's on Discord, message us with screenshots of the incident. We ask that you do this instead of "mini-modding", i.e contributing to an in progress disturbance by calling it out. Rather than telling problematic users not to do certain things directly, or suggesting what the consequences of it will be, please just bring the attention to a moderator so that we can resolve it quietly and efficiently. Suggesting courtesy or a better channel for a discussion is okay, but when it comes to trying to enforce the rules, please leave that to the team. If you have any questions, you are always free to contact us on the staff team.

Like any relatively public-facing community, we have to ask you guys to keep things appropriate. Historically this has meant a focus on prohibiting overtly sexual content, but recently we have expanded the rule to cover other aspects as well. This includes over-sharing, being 'horny on main', bathroom humor, gore and other gross topics. This may be the internet, but let us at least try to pretend to be polite company, no? What qualifies as "overtly" sexual content is something scientists have debated for centuries, but in general we ask people to use their best judgment as to when things are no longer appropriate. As people are compelled to be increasingly creative in their sexual metaphors, is infeasible to outline a specific list of where each innuendo falls in terms of overtness, and so as a staff team, we have to execute similar discretion. In general, a passing innuendo should be okay, but topics should not linger on inappropriate humor enduringly. Let it come and go. Such jokes should also never come at the expense of making someone else uncomfortable. Clearly explicit sexual jokes and memes are prohibited. Clearly pornographic material is extremely prohibited. We typically determine if images qualify as that based on if they show The Bits but even other images may be inappropriate if they are clearly suggestive or fall into the 'horny on main' category. An exception to this rule is made if users are discussing these topics in mature depth. As a community, we believe it's important that people can talk about, share and learn from each other even when it comes to heavy topics, and we are welcome to be a place to do so. However, these conversations need to stay mature, and stay in the appropriate environments and contexts as dictated by the moderation team (such as the Atrium on Discord). Please respect the staff's decision if you're asked to move the discussion elsewhere or to a private setting. We will stress again that no comments should be made at the expense of others users. Any form of sexual harassments will be taken very seriously. If you're making others feel unsafe, you will be asked to stop or leave. There is no tolerance for this. As always, if you have questions, please feel free to contact the staff team.

A little late, but thanks y'all for the feedback! It's clear we have a lot of work to do, and while I'm definitely taking notes, we're holding off on a lot of it because we don't want to postpone Reborn forever for the sake of polishing a demo. But we'll be coming back to all of this when we make the full game. I'm seeing a lot of ideas for things we already have planned, particularly with polishing the UX, adding flanking, generally making things clearer to the player faster-- and some other good ones we'll definitely take note on. I'm sorry to hear that the story didn't really quite do it for a couple of you, and I'll take what lessons I can from that when we get to the full game. As I said before, this isn't the start of the game so it's likely some things will be redone when we get back to this chapter. I also appreciate the comments about this being distinctly unsatisfying to rhythm game players, and I hear you. One thing I am set on is that this is always going to be a tRPG first and foremost, but I've known since the beginning that finding a way to make the battle system non-trivial to rhythm game veterans (or just players as they gain experience in game) is going to be our greatest challenge. I have some ideas for that, but as far as the demo is concerned, I think that it's difficult to stress how much we're holding back right now. Early mid-development testing showed it was pretty tough for newcomers to rhythm sequences, which is why most of the enemies do so little damage relative to the players high health pools + there's abundance of healing items + we held off on some enemy skills to not make things too much harder... but there is a lot of room that I'm waiting to take advantage of until there's more game for people to be used to. However, that's just on the tactical side of things. Obviously, I'll need to get a lot more creative about the rhythm part if I don't want it to be boring to vets in the long run, and while I have some plans, I'm going to continue exploring more options for that. I realized after some of the above posts that I've never actually played a rhythm game for any substantial amount of time (osu for like half an hour, guitar hero for like, a few hours, that's it) so I've started to work on changing that. I moved away from the idea of calling this a rhythm hybrid a while ago since I felt it was misleading for the game's actual focus (non-RNG tRPG) but it's clearly still important to learn from that side of things. We're going to be moving forward with the public demo release today, but I want to offer an additional thank you to everyone who took the time to play the beta, and everyone who took the time to offer feedback. It can only go up from here.

Haven't heard about the winter party yet??? Check it here! Each year we host a Super Secret Swap where everyone who signs up is randomly assigned another participant to secretly buy a present for! Everyone gives, everyone receives! There are some rules! In order to enter, you must: You must be from NA or Europe. Sorry to folks from other places :c You must be willing to spend real money on this. The suggested budget is around $25 or £/€20 You must be willing to share your address with us. Rest assured, it will only be given to the person who is sending you your gift. We will cap out at 10 people per region. As mentioned in the main thread, we'll run one circuit in NA and one in EU so shipping costs aren't too crazy. Sign ups will be open until 12/2! In order to sign up, please send me a message here on the forum with the following things: Your region A name that people can ship to A postal address to ship to A wish list of some things or options around the given price range that you would enjoy getting! After that, I'll assign everyone their gift-ees, and then there'll be a bit of a hustle, because we'd like it if people can receive their gifts by the party... so if they can be sent out by 12/7 or so that would be great, but this thread has gone up a little later, and the party is earlier than usual this year, so uh, you know let's all just do our best and stuff. As usual, I'll ask that everyone sends me a copy of their receipts / orders when shipping things off. If you've provided confirmation that you did send a gift and you somehow do not get a gift, we will personally get you one ourselves instead so that no one is forgotten! Feel free to message me if you have any questions, or otherwise to sign up!

The game is made with RPG Maker MV, and I don't intend to monetize it. I'd rather continue giving people the option of supporting us and letting everyone play, rather than requiring people to pay before they can play.

Uploaded a new version today! No new features, but fixes for various crashes, and we have added a Low-spec Mode to the options screen. This mode will perform worse, but but it should fix the black screen glitch for computers that have had it. If you haven't been able to play because of that, this is worth a try. The rest is all the same.
-
It's probably a silly macintosh security issues. Try putting the game on a flash drive and running it from that! Alternatively, there's a video in this post about the same issue that you could replicate the instructions for

I haven't actually uploaded the fixed version yet But I appreciate you trying anyway! -
[Fixed?] Crash after losing to Nova
Amethyst replied to emporioYvankov's topic in Starlight Bug Reporting
I think we've fixed both of these now today! more confident in the first than the second. sorry for the issues! -
[Fixed?] Multiple crashes while fleeing Kharniga Keep
Amethyst replied to Busti's topic in Starlight Bug Reporting
ok i have reason to believe we've fixed this. i wish i could say it 100% confidently but that is more than i've had before -
Uploaded one more patch, which should solve the _bitmap crash for users on older GPUs. We still can't solve the black screen issue, and I suspect we won't be able to, so the minimum requirements still stand unfortunately. This patch also should help us debug issues a little better. Once again, I recommend anyone still planning to play to update. If you're done, no need.
-
oh, that's great for if anyone else has this issue. thanks so much, i hope the game itself runs smoothly for you!
-
@SilentAge hey okay so we got a chance to try it on a mac machine for ourselves, and allow me to be the first to say, i hate Apple so much we got it to work in a stupid way-- by putting it on a flash drive, and running it off of there, as opposed to running it on the computer's hard drive. in fact, after that it worked even on the hard drive. this is probably some kind of stupid security issue. idk. any chance you can try this dumb work around for us? we tested this on catalina too

[Fixed?] Multiple crashes while fleeing Kharniga Keep
Amethyst replied to Busti's topic in Starlight Bug Reporting
I'm glad you enjoyed it despite the issues! Can you tell me what was going on before any of the times that it broke? edit: no, you already said you can't. okay. maybe i need to see if we can get some more advanced logging going on here, some of these error messages are supremely unhelpful... -
For both of you, can you check and post what GPU the game is running on? And if you have a dedicated GPU, try running the game on that instead-- that should fix this black screen issue. This is probably a minimum-requirements issue. Actually, before either of that, I'd like to try working with a special build of this directly. If either of you can hit me up on Discord I'd appreciate it. I'm in the main Reborn server, link is in the site menu but here: https://discord.gg/kSEdwup Got a chance to do this and we probably cannot fix this in a meaningful way-- windows is competing with the game for resources. comment about dGPU / requirements stands, sorry guys :c
-
ah. right. catalina. yeah, that is almost certainly the problem, and i don't know how feasible that is going to be for me to fix in the near future... i am very sorry.
-
Thanks for that, and I'm glad you got it working! The autosave system though... surprising. This is the first we've heard about that-- any chance you could turn it back on long enough to get a screenshot of what kind of error you get from that?
-
Downloads have been updated for some fixes In theory, it should fix all the reported crashes that aren't related to older GPUs If anyone is still planning on playing through, i do recommend updating. If you're done, probably no need. If you do update, note that save files need to be moved manually -- the save folder is game folder/www/save/ on windows and game.app/contents/resources/app.nw/save/ on mac just move everything in there (screens folder optional)
-
Thanks! Can you also try setting the game to run using your dedicated GPU and see how much that fixes? quick instructions copied from other thread on that:
-
Try right clicking on your desktop. There might be something that says Nvidia Control Panel. Open that, and go to Program Settings. There'll be a place where you can find/add programs-- add the game's EXE, set it to run with the dedicated GPU, and hit apply. That's how it works on my computer anyway, yours might be slightly different? I could post some screenshots later if you need more specifics
