How should you navigate this ethereal universe?

when you think about it, where did donkey come from? if you look on the official map of shrek, it shows many regions, but we know that the weather in all of the regions are too rigid for donkeys. so where is he from? my theory is that donkey is actually an alien who crash landed in shrek's swamp. he just appears out of nowhere. plus, why would a donkey venture all the way out to shrek's swamp?
