I still think Lynn is a strong canidate. There's some strong examples in the dialogue of the game and if you look at the hand drawn map of Reborn, there's a large dragon on the peak, potentially because Lynn is the champion and she trains dragons. Unforunetly, I don't have the game in fron of me, so I can't check the dialogue for sure.

There's nothing wrong with the colors. It's perfectly readable.

Just practice. Open up your photo editing program and just edit spires instead of making new one's. It's far easier to practice that way, and you may be able to churn out good ones. I know the feel though. I'm making my own game and I can pretty much do everything but sprite (mostly people) which is a problem. At least I can kind of sprite buildings and things.But either way practicing is your best bet.
