  1. Looking back, I don't even know how I beat Florina...she's super cheap especially with leftovers so early... I do remember my Monferno being the heavy hitter and Pachirisu worked well as a staller with charm and sweet kiss then use potions to heal up pokemon on the bench. After that, swap in your heavy hitter to spam down the foe with your strongest attack. It only works on the pokemon with strong physical moves so take note which pokemon use mainly physical moves, send in Pachirisu and get to stalling. When available, train and learn to use a staller like Pachirisu or Togepi or whoever you us. My personal advice is take advantage of battle items For pokemon that can't learn Calm Mind that need to survive strikers, there's X-Special or if you see a chance to sweep but don't have Bulk Up or Sharpen Claws, etc, there's X-Attack.
  2. There's level 35 pokemon you can train pretty quick. If you're not having trouble with Tentacruel, Muk or Nidoqueen and you're able to handle the Drapion, then I guess that leaves Gengar and Seviper? Might be able to grab a ground type to finish up the Seviper easy but the Gengar has Levitate. Afraid to say, but you should learn a lesson from Fern. Go find an extra pokemon. Gravelers have Smack Down to negate Gengar's Levitate or you can get a Quagsire for Earthquake which will be weak against Gengar's Energy Ball (I think he has that) but take on Seviper which I think has Aqua Tail.
  3. And apparently it swaps when it evolves? The shiny Parasect looks yellow-ish while the normal looks reddish.

    EV Training

I'd personally like to know just how much work is involved in that kind of stuff and just what kind of payoff comes of it. Never bothered with that stuff since I first heard about it way back in Gen-II. It seems doubly irrelevant since there is no competitive play for this game so is largely wasted.
  5. I'm not learned in the ways of EV training, but if you're looking for defense, wouldn't Venipede and Whirlipede be a good target? If you have access to Byxbysion, that area carries both during the day for +1 and +2 according to the wiki. There's also Koffing and Weezing which also give +1 and +2 defense in the same area. Skorupi give +1 def. None of those are resistant to electric but the alternative is most of the rock types which are resistant to electric. For Sp. Attack, wouldn't just splitting your training spots to 2 areas be best? Fill out your defense in Byxbysion and the stroll over to Azurine for your oddish and glooms. Another target for your electric defense EVs would be klinks and klangs in the underground railway but they are high level (30s-mid40s). Not sure if that's undesirable. But an electric looking for defense might aim for bugs and steel types.
  6. It's about opportunity costs too. To train to get Flare Blitz, my pokemon must become out of my control. At no point do my pokemon disobey me. Ever. Monferno (Infernape) found out the hard way what happens to my pokemon when they disobey during the first gym. Also, I do like to train pokemon, but I also have a life Training an Arkanine to get Heatwave took a meer afternoon...with time to start training a Magnemite to get Flash Cannon and Discharge early. And I love me some Earthquake, but it was pain enough training to get Flygon period. Not subjecting myself to the insanity of swap-training or sugar rushing a Trapinch to 55! Also, now that I think about it, I wouldn't want to teach Arkanine Flare Blitz Arkanine is my support-offensive flame type. I have Infernape for full-on offensive flame type. Arkanine was the ringer in that double battle because of Safeguard and Heatwave (also Crunch). I swapped Arkanine in because the gym is poison and he's not natually weak to it like Infernape
  7. Are battle items taboo? Shade was tough until I got a chance to see what his pokemon could do. His Dusclops is a good chance to buff up with X-Sp Def since it is more of a tanker for when he eventually swaps to Chandeleur. I used Arkanine since it would be resistant to the Flame Burst and the X-sp made the Energy Balls and Shadow Balls tickle and gave me time for 2 Crunches. I had more trouble with his Rotom! It was a slow process of burn, leech seed and digging to dodge his hexes.
  8. Heh, which pokemon learns Sunny Day? Curious if the OP finally beat Aya. After I beat Fern with a lot of struggle, I ended up waiting and training up my Pokemon and swapping out my Infernape for Arkanine. She's full of surprises, like the Icy Winds, Aqua Tails and Earths Power. I lost the first two times messing around with tactics but finally pushed to get my Flygon. For a Psi pokemon, I recommend Mr. Mime! Substitute is just really nice for the cheap shots she tries, swapping out her Nidoqueen for her Gengar to get off a fast Night Slash to try and take him out of the picture. I got lucky and Dragon Tailed the Gengar for the Seviper and one-shot it the next turn Also, if you're not opposed to using items, use the battle items! My Arkanine with an X-Special easily put the pressure on her team once she swaps to Drapion by spamming Heatwave. Another piece of advice I'd give is looking to see what levels a pokemon learns moves before evolving them. You can save yourself some time and frustration by training a non-evolved pokemon high then de-leveling it so you can use it. Like Flamethrower on my Arkanine would be good, but Heatwave is better and hits all enemies. Discharge is a lot more powerful of an electric attack for Magnezone but if you evolve it fast, you have to wait until later after Aya (lvl 51) or train Magnemite to 42 instead! And Discharge paired with a ground type in your 2nd slot or a pokemon with Lightning Rod is a good way to pressure Aya at the start. And you don't need lvl 44 pokemon but they make things easier I managed it with a 40-42 team + Flygon (lvl 45) as a ringer but only needed him when she started spamming poke-swaps That's when Flygon said SWAP THIS! and the defeat train started with a forced Dragon Tail swap
