I had to make my chimpnology gif pretty low quality to make it an avi

They have to be pretty small; I had a gif for the longest time as my avatar; though it was honestly a small gif in the first place and it still had to be resized.

If you have photoshop you should have plenty of options to resize it without losing too much quality.
