  1. So you didn't show the tragic death of a village by the Elder's hubris in toying with magic he didn't understand by metaphorically turning him into a bomb that pierced the hearts of nearly all his people with his very bones? Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan. Also, I really don't mind if you pop some things into Emberly background so long as you and Dobbs talk to me about it by the way. I'm all for making some interesting stuff happen lol. I jsut don't want to outline too much in character sheet. It's my personal way of doing things.
  2. Hmmmm... so you did learn something from me after all XD. Hopefully it's not as brutal as some of the things i did in Graterras Original doe...
  3. I prefer entirely to expand by play which is my reason for doing that to be honest. I prefer to figure out a character by feeling it and playing them rather than try and instill it via backstory. I'm not going to remember every detail of my backstory while in play. I'll remember key points but I'm not going to remember certain things like reactions etc because they didn't come out in play. But that's my preferred method of writing for RPs. Give soemthing but then leave most up to what happens in paly.
  4. Yea, Emberly's sorta... going to have to be a trainer. I sorta instilled it into her backstory as well lol. ((that and she doesn't have the patience for the other two. I already know she'd think Contests would be dull as bricks.))
  5. Rose, Ellaria... and the Mystery Man. The Harmonica kept playing for awhile it lazily droned on... a lethargic song. The man stood still in the middle of the path seeming to have not noticed the two girls. He focused on playing his song, while standing directly in their path... unknowingly or not. The closer the girls got, the more a disheveled mess the man looked. He looked like a hobo or a homeless man that had been wondering the streets for ages. But it didn't make sense... he wasn't gaunt and thin from a lack of food. He was the opposite. He looked quite healthy from that point of view. Something... wasn't quite right. Like he choose to not take care of anything but his belly. The wreck of a man seemed to be less of a wreck and more like... a choice? He wanted to look this way? It was much to strange to put to words. and when one thought the strange was over... it continued. He stopped playing in the middle of his song. Dead silence now, as he didn't even move an inch. Not even the rustle of his baggy worn out clothes could be heard. He seemed to freeze in place not moving seemingly anything. And then his nose started to twitch. Was he... smelling something? Whether or not that was the case, the girls were quickly greeted with a rather unwelcome invitation. "Ah... well if it ain't you two sweet innocent darlin's. To what pleasure do I owe this chance meeting?" The gruff voice asked what would normally seem to be empty space He said this while bowing towards the exact spot the two were standing on. It was clear he knew where they were. How he did was unknown however.
  6. Name: Emberly "Drake" Everburn. Age: 15 Program: Trainer Starting side: Student Appearance: Emberly has Ember Orange Hair that flows all over the place. Her eyes are a deep sparkling green. She is 6'2", which is rather tall for someone her age. This has lead to quite the awkward situation every now and then. However, the rest of her appearance highly varies. Emberly doesn't have much of a care for what she looks like, so long as she is presentable etc... So it is rather ramshackle at times. She tends to wear orange with baggy sweatpants or jeans. She never wears anything considered "girly". Personality: An over the top, loud, and fiery young woman. Emberly is passionate about anything she cares about, though tends to not give a damn about other things. She is a free spirit and one that strives to be the best at things she likes. She will passionately fight to the end for the things she believes. However, she is a bit of an airhead at times. Her fiery personality and led many to likening her to a Dragon, due to how wild and strong her personality is. Starter: Whisper ((Growlithe)) lvl 8. Ability: Justified ((Intimidate doesn't fit her personality and people are just going to be buttlords and play around Flash Fire, since "lol, why'd I ever hit a Fire type with a FIre move?")) Moves: -Flame Wheel -Odor Sleuth -Helping Hand ((I better get a chance to use this...)) -Bite -Reversal -Ember. Where Emberly is loud and outgoing, Whisper is her opposite. She's quiet and often quite scared of many people and things. However, she fiercely wants to protect Emberly and prove that she's able to protect her. She will do anything to make Emberly proud of her and battles her hardest to earn this. Hometown: Cinnabar Island Backstory: Emberly had always been a very out-going person ever since she was little. Though, she almost had to be. She was always taller than the other kids by bounds and leaps. it made her a rather easy target to pick on as it was something very obvious. Of course, she never really let it get to her. She never cared what other people thought of her. Whether or not she was a freak she didn't really care. She was just easily more unique than others. It only made her more the eager to prove those people wrong and to show them that she wasn't really all that different. She decided though that she wouldn't isolate people in the way she felt she was. In fact, it's how she met Whisper, her invaluable partner. Emberly lived in the relatively small community on Cinnabar Island in Kanto. It was never a huge town but big enough you might not know every person by name. One of her neighbors had a group of Growlithe puppies that they had recently gotten from a group of friends and where giving out to some of the children and families so that they had a nice home to go too. Nearly all of them were scooped up instantly other than one. She was a shy dog who didn't really get overly excited when people were looking into the box her and her siblings were in. She always got pushed to the back by the big brutes, after all she was the runt of the litter. The smallest Growlithe there. No one really wanted a runt and so she ended up being isolated because of her size. Emberly... wasn't happy about this and despite not really having the go ahead to do so from her parents or really even the room in her home, scooped up the small dog anyway. It wasn't fair for her to be picked on for her small size and to not find a home. So, the giant took the runt under her wing. "We're both freaks huh? I'm way too big, and you're way too small. Maybe the both of us make up the difference. However... how about we show them? Show them that we aren't so different. That we can be strong just like them and everyone else?" Those were the first words Emberly spoke to the little pup she was holding in her arms. In reply, the little dog barked a quiet bark. Her nerves made it so small. But it was clear it was in agreement. At least to Emberly it was. The Growlithe answered with naught but a Whisper. And that was to be her name. Of course, Emberly's parent's weren't all that happy when she brought home the little pup, but they eventually came around. They thought it a good thing their daughter did, even if it was very rash. It was how Emberly had always been. She had a big heart, even if it was easily trampled on. Her and Whisper were inseparable, the pup never left her side. Though she was usually seen cowering behind Emberly's leg or hiding in her arms. She was a timid one and Emberly was anything but. Their personalities even seemed to be opposites. And yet they were so drawn together. The two set their goal in mind, to be the most powerful trainer and Pokemon duo ((for the time being)) in the world. They would show all those that doubted them, those that thought a runt was good for nothing, and that a girl her size was something strange. They had everything to prove and they would face that long road despite the grief that may lay ahead. After all, what did they have to lose? People didn't believe in them already. They had everything to gain and they could only move up from where they were now. Extra: Nothing here for me. BOOM!! Get apped Sooooooooooooooooooooooooon!!!
  7. So should I just post it now? I am pretty much finished with it XD>
  8. I usually don't prefer the reserving for an app but I can do it for now. Actually mine's actually kinda finished, but I'll wiat lol.
  9. That's actually what I was saying... I just didn't articulate that part about making it very clearly different motivation-wise. Most people aren't very good at that and tend to lapse into a rut with characters it gets harder when you have huge similarities between them. ((motivation... is the hardest thing to write and keep in mind imo... most forget that their character should have those and they should help to dictate their actions to some degree.)) That's where my advice comes from. It's probably just from years of teaching new players that I assume to go with things as such even if I probably shouldn't. I always air to caution rather than well recklessness. I don't want to chuck something to someone that can't handle it. ((since at times... I can't handle that stuff and we all know that I've got some skill. Maybe not a lot, but some XD>))
  10. Besides... I can just nuke the post no harm done. ((and explain to the person that they don't want any posts. if it's an app I'll make sure to grab it before I delete it and give it back to them in the PM that way it's not lost as well.)) So yea, we got it handled if it happens Chimmy and Dobbs. No worries.
  11. Well... I jsut went full wacky.... I don't think one can come back from going full wacky. Ah Quincy...how I've missed you.
  12. Somewhere near Rose and Ellaria The two girls had just gotten away from the others, for a second they were not destined to come across any others. Until... they heard the sound of... music? A lone harmonica lazily cried out from nearby, something strangely intoxicating about the sound. It seemed to make them ever so slightly sleepy, but it invoked a strange curiosity. It wasn't like that of anyone they knew so far on this journey. Was it... another soul trapped in the maze? What was it? And why were they playing such an instrument in this mess? Did they not care if they were found? So many questions. So few answers. There was only one way to find out for sure, it was to round the corner where the music was lazily coming from. Otherwise it was head back towards those they had just ditched. Which to choose? The known... or the unknown that lead what they perceived to be forward? Quickshot Quincy and the Questionable Gunman. The shots keep pegging down at Quincy and he had no idea where they were coming from. He kept running... now he knew what it felt like to become the prey. However, a hunter like him... being chased as prey... this was bullshit. He stopped dead in his tracks before shouting at the walls "Do you know who I am? DO YOU!?!?!?!" Of course, Quincy wasn't expecting an answer. But, he got one. From an all too familiar voice. "Finally you fool... Man, you know normal people stop when a gun is fired at them. And of course I knwo who you are good buddy. I mean... you were only a part of me for awhile." From the shadows emerged a figure dressed in the same dress as Quincy. And in his hand he held an exact copy of God's Hand. He had a close shaven brown beard and was wearing a sick pair of shades. Quincy wondered if he had a pair of those in his gear that he had from Minos... and lo and behold found them resting near the top of his bag. He promptly put the on sliding them over his big snout. They didn't quite fit properly, but better than one would've expected for a Rat. The two now mirror-eyed individuals stared each other down for a second before the scene progressed. Each sized the other up in a spilt second. They knew each other better than anybody else. After all they once were the same person. ((Though... calling Quincy a person is generous.)). The rat spit on the ground to the side, mildy disgusted at the man before him. The Honor-bound loser... made him sick to his stomach. "And to what displeasure do I meet you here for Byron? Weren't you dead or some shit? I definitely recall that happening. I laughed A LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT when that happened. At least... i think I remember that... Look I got a shitty memory. " the Rat said with a stupid smirk on his face. "No kidding, Remember you were a part of me once. The horribly inferior parts." Byron said smugly. "Oh you think your sooooooooooooo funny Wonderboy. You still haven't hit me once." "You haven't hit me either." "Eh, I missed on purpose. I felt bad for the little baaaaby.... wah wah wah." he said while pantomiming rubbing his eyes from crying. "Look, Quince. I'm here to help you get out of this place. If you want to keep being an ass fine by me man." "Okay, you're definitely not Byron time to die pal." "Wha- oh shit." The Rat opened fire. Aaaaaaaa one... aaaaaaa two... AAAAA THREEEEEEEEEE shots to get to the center of a Byron-roll pop. Well if they hit. Sadly, the two had about as much luck hitting each as they'd have trying to hit the broadside of a barn... from inside the barn. All of them went wide as the man ducked down quickly all of the bullets whizzing off down the corridor. "Damn it!!! Why did you have to move maaaaaaaaaaaaaaan? This shit would ahve been done with if you just stood still. Buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut nooooooooooooooooo.... gotta harsh my mellow brooooo." "Dude, I'm just trying to help you." Byron shouted. "Yea and geese fly east for the summer, what's your point? I know you're full of shit. Byron would never lift a finger to help me." the rat said rather calmly. He really couldn't believe whoever this was was this stupid. He rattled enough another 3 shots right at the man. All three once again missing horribly.
  13. I'd say take a different approach. It be a bit strange to make a new character... and then make them the same character pretty much anyway. What motivations they have plays a looooot into the characters and stuff like that from their backstory. So, it's best if your starting new to pick a different thing since you'll probably wlak the same path you did last time if you're not careful. That's my opinion though and it's your character after all.
  14. Oh... yea don't mind me I'm an idiot. I figured it out then lol. Also... I personally don't think there's such a thing as a personality that only works with a certain gender, but... that's me.
  15. I dunno. The way I write characters I personally don't think their gender matters. ((but it's cause I don't like to confirm to gender bias etc... hell pretty much most of my female characters except maybe Jupiter are very tom-boyish etc... especially characters like Snow.))
  16. Usually you can go off kilter, however somethings do need restriction. ((since if you can do what the hell ever with some things... you're going to be maaaaaaaaaaad op. SOme things alos don;t have a use out of the game so new uses need to be invented. Also, it's safe to say ones that have a behavior connotation should be present in the Pokemon's personality. Like if you Have Moxie [a.k.a Over Confidence in Japanese and really what it means anyway.] that should probably be present in the mon's personality. Same with things like Prankster to some degree, things like ANger Point, Gluttony, Simple.... the list goes on.)) So, short, usually. However soemtimes some things are really broken giving free range ((Illusion is a big example since people started trying form it jsut projects images [which is what it should've remained in the first place...] etc..)) so it's case by case and a little haphazard. Freedom is usually what they rule with and they try to help you out if you wirte it well and it's a healthy use of the ability, move etc... otherwise the ruling will be the other way. Hopefully that explains... soemthing.
  17. Then probably should've sne that to jsut you then? Eh... whatevs you both can look it over I'mma need the help catchin' up with the Ymora region so it's probably good Chim's in there for later lol.
  18. Murdoc, that's a HUGE if. And I definitely agree with that point of view, but I really don't think many people have the skills to do that in a way that is actually constructive and not just detrimental to the enjoyment of others or the character itself. I doubt even I have those skills. Therefore I really don't suggest it and really don't want to see it. ((as is my stance on all this stuff for the most part. I've seen plenty of things people write that they don't understand [cause they aren't those things and have no point of reference] and end up writing bad characters who's defining characteristic becomes that thing. It's a really crappy crutch for something to be interesting and it's suuuuper poor writing. This almost always happens in my experience.)) I don't exactly like letting powder kegs that could easily explode just laying out in the open. I advise against it after all. I can't keep someone from writing it, but I can axe it if it's just going to be an issue ((which is all I ever see developing out of it.)) RPs just aren't the place to really handle these things and I still kinda believe that. Either way, it's Chim decision as this is his RP. ((well and Dobbs too I suppose lol.)) Either way that's the last I'm saying anything on this let's jsut move onward.
  19. Not well, let alone is it ever well written. It's just never an interesting character trait as it's very binary and usually just never good. That's without... certain things happening... and I'd rather not have a rehash of last time. That shit was a mess and so big of one I had to be drawn in to handle it. ((it's partially why there's two mods for this forum too.)) So, yea, just don't go there Darven. It's best that it left alone. Because it's not really something I want in this sub-forum ((this is for fun and it quickly diminishes when a character is that antagonistic.)) and it just not something I want here. I want every one to feel welcome. That's just how I personally feel about it.
  20. Cool, I'll probably shoot something your guys way before to awful long. I don't think I be doing anything that breaks the norm ((since... I'd rather have a student perspective at least first lol.)) but maybe I'll try something funky... we'll see. Expect to see something from me sooner or later Chimmy XD.
  21. That's the thing I could properly get one done by now but I don't really have the tools to do so cause I don't have them will people that have played do. Sorta not cool imo... but that's me I suppose. Cause I could write my app probably in about 10 minutes ((which is about how long it usually takes, how long it took me to write Johanna's for Strat's RP in lol.)) I can;t really pull out one if I don't know what I'm supposed to include though. Guess that's what I'm getting at.
  22. Ah true I suppose. It still feels really iffy though to me... guess it's just the Old Curmudgeon in me lol. I might reuse Emberly for this... I don't know she's weirdly my easiest to adapt character ((I really don't understand it but it's true and she sorta covers my younger character section. She's just easy to write that way. So might be reused.)) Anyway, I'll wait then... mostly since I don't know that awful much about Ymora. I was kinda not a big part of the first. But, I'd like to at least give it a whack this time instead of just lettin' it slip by lol.
  23. Hmmmm, I don't really think that's a good idea. It gives certain players extra time to tweak thing and get their sheets in order. That's really not fair to everyone else who gets in on the second wave. We have less time to prepare and therefore a lot less chance of getting in. I personally think that all sheets should be handled all at the same time rather than giving veterens a better chance jsut cause they played last time if you are really considering the character's in the way Strat did for his more recent RP. Even if they are mostly complete etc... it's still an unfiar edge they have with extra prep time. But, that's my opinion.
