  5. Most poetic forms don't rhyme. A pantoum is constructed of several repeating lines (the form of the first), and free verse (the second) is completely devoid of rules. It's basically motivated by the same thing that motivates all writing; in this case I feel the message is most effectively delivered by the short form of a poem rather than a windy essay.
  6. Arturia looked at Haley with a mixture of confusion and relief before helping the girl to her feet, looking at Natalie the whole time. She took a step or two toward her, before glancing back at Haley. "Uh, how are you planning on doing that, exactly? She seems pretty hell-bent on murdering everyone she sees." She noted Lana's new outfit as she began moving toward the goddess again. What, everyone's got one of these now? This would actually be really cool if there wasn't someone trying to cut us to bits.

  8. "There's just something magical about Touhou. It is a genuine labor of love from every angle. In a day and age where video games and franchises are made by corporations looking for a market, Touhou was just a game made by a guy who wanted a shooting game about his little girls, who he calls his children, who really just enjoyed each other once all the shooting was over. There is no fanservice, and a lot of respect is given to every single character, no matter how small. This love show...

...shown by its creator makes everything seem so genuine.

Pick-a-waifu/hasubando games like Kantai Collection and Touken Ranbu have tried to emulate its success, and though they've succeeded in gaining popularity, Touhou never had to abandon its roots, never relying on more than just its own merits, because Touhou never has treated its characters as showgirls to exploit. That is why I believe not only that Touhou has a bright future ahead of it, but that it will endure far long...

  9. Arturia ran forward, her outfit offering up the faint sounds of clanking with each quick step she took. Her heart hammered at her ribcage with a fury, or so it felt like, anyway. She briefly wondered to herself how she found the courage to charge forward like this at all. It almost feels like this is a dream, or something, like I'm not really here. It was crazy, really, having no clue what was about to happen but running headlong into it anyway. She almost felt like she was watching herself do it, the disconnected feeling providing an odd contrast to the fear, confusion, and anger rampaging about in her head, as she knelt downward to wrap her arms around the dying girl, forcing herself to think of the storm Riley told her to - but that sounds like killing her, not saving her - a furious vortex of power tearing at Haley, though what she really wanted was for the storm to sear away the one that had caused the wound in the first place.
  10. ah, yes, arturia has the ability that involves suffering the most pain through full utilization, perfect
  11. Siegfried and the Dragon Siegfried fought the dragon The glow of flame and the roar of fury could be heard Fafnir was the great fire-snake's name Shaped bone of beast and forged blood of earth clashed The glow of flame and the roar of fury could be heard As Balmung bit back at the hell-lizard('s) sinew Shaped bone of beast and forged blood of earth clashed And the Nibelung prince's blade found its mark As Balmung bit back at the hell-lizard sinew The mighty jaws clamped at the hero in desperation And the Nibelung prince's blade found its mark Buried deep in the torrid scourge's heart The mighty jaws clamped at the hero in desperation When the loathesome beast finally fell Buried deep in the torrid scourge's heart The cursed soul within was finally freed When the loathesome beast fell after Siegfried fought the dragon The cursed soul within was finally freed after Siegfried fought the dragon Heroes People always like to talk about how far it is we've come as humans They compare society now to how it was two centuries ago and say how barbaric we were. But how far have we come, really? When Hrothgar asked Beowulf to save his people from Grendel, Beowulf didn't ask, “How much will you pay me?” Herakles fought the Hydra Not because it was for glory Or because it would make him rich. Who are our heroes now? We worship people we know are liars, drug addicts, criminals, even murderers It's not to say that there's no value in being an athlete, a politician, an actor But are they really worth the attention they get? People say that we're enlightened now, but compare the old idols to the new ones ask them why they became heroes It might not be fair. After all, the old heroes didn't actually exist but something doesn't need to exist to be looked up to to touch our hearts Who are we letting into our hearts now?

  15. except it's not, really; the rates of successful terrorist attacks (or terrorist attacks in general) involving planes and such haven't really gone down in correlation with the TSA; in fact most TSA agents will admit that their job is literally all for show. http://www.thewire.com/national/2014/01/tsa-business-security-theater-not-security/357599/ the TSA exists only to make you feel safer, they do nothing to actually make you so. Though if you're anything like me, the amount of fuss they make actually makes you feel unsafe, particularly when I know security personnel tend to profile me based on appearance (because all long-haired guys wearing black tees are stoners or criminals amirite.)
  16. totally up for this, i have a webcam+mic I've only tried play-by-post once and it was a total disaster, but I'd be willing to try it again. I'd prefer skype/discord/roll20 though.
  17. Arturia was about to let off a loud string of shocked curses when she was grabbed from behind, and then whispered to in a way that someone other than herself might find seductive, causing her to get halfway through the first curse before it turned into a sort of strangled, unintelligible angry noise. Her emotions ran through virtually every negative one could think of; rage, shock, fear, horror, disgust, and the sudden urge to throw an elbow in the general direction of the girl speaking to her's gut. Her already pale complexion was rapidly approaching a shade resembling a sheet of paper at the sight in front of her, though some color returned to it as the girl took the liberty of biting her goddamn ear like they were sleeping together, causing more than a little revulsion. After a moment that felt like an eternity, she regained her composure enough to sort through a rapid series of thoughts. Natalie just stabbed Haley. She did it with a sword made of ice that came from nowhere. This is like a fantasy novel, or something, what the hell? This creepy chick just told me I could save her. If there's magical shit going on here and I'm not just hallucinating all of this because of some sort of mental break, she might actually be telling the truth. If she's telling the truth, then it's worth a try. Instead of performing some sort of physical violence upon Riley, she simply jerked away reflexively, and spoke. "Alright, whatever, this is fucking insane but you get what you want." She spoke rapidfire, trying to get the entire chant out as quickly as possible before Haley passed away or Natalie decided that she wanted Arturia to decorate the floors with too. "By the light of your heart, By the strength of my trust, With the raging fury of the believers, And for the salvation of all humanity, Bestow upon me your strength, That I might bring light to the world." As she finished the last line, the girl felt a strange sensation as power started to surge through her, starting at her toes and moving upward. A shimmering effect started their and moved upward, first replacing her shoes with boots made of a silvery-white metal, coming to slight points after the toes and protecting her shins. As the sparks moved upward, they replaced her jeans with pristine white leggings, and a somewhat short skirt with three layers that briefly appeared to attach to nothing at all. The violet bottom layer appeared first, succeeded by an orange layer and a white one. It extended upward into a white dress, this coming with a chestplate that matched the boots. The sleeves of her shirt were replaced by a set of similar bracers, these with orange bands around each end, and her now-exposed arms were covered with a large number of seemingly random triangular patterns consisting of two lines, along with her normally unpainted nails being violet. The short sleeves of the dress that now covered her were also banded with orange on the ends. As the transformation reached her shoulders, a cape appeared and extended downward to just past the backs of her kness; this a deep violet, with an orange band running halfway back up it with fringe to match this.
  18. Vixen The man gasped before a sound somewhere between shattering glass and clashing metal sounded, heralding a burst of electricity that rendered the man invisible for a moment. The surging energy clashed with Vixen's assault, sending a narrow shockwave tearing down the road to their left and right. When the dust cleared, the self-styled Knight of Storms was standing in the street, his armor replaced with clothing (though still of the same bright teal color, and definitely not a modern style) and his blade seeming to have lost a fair amount of mass. Shock showed on his face for a moment, before he turned the sword over and placed it tipfirst into the ground, seeming to steady both himself and his expression. "Very well, you have spoken to me in a way that I understand." A great deal of his bluster seemed to have vanished despite his words sounding like they came out of a bad fantasy novel. "Come, follow me, and I shall share my knowledge with you." He turned on his heel, glimmering for a moment as he finally reverted to nonmagical form, and disappeared into a nearby alleyway. Dexter and Seth Seth's vicious assault impaled one of the snakes, tearing the thing to bloody pieces that dissolved into the air before they hit the ground. The others, however, were rather quicker to react, one of them simply dodging sinuously away from the stabbing attack and the other coiling around the tendril, slithering down it towards their attacker. A strange light began to gather in the maw of the one still in flight. "I'm quite fine for now, thank you, but I would agree with the idea of actually attacking these beasts rather than simply looking at them aggressively." The Mediator's voice echoed from a nearby alleyway dryly.
  19. Yuuki slowly brought himself to his feet with a hissed intake of breath, one hand clutching at his side for a moment. "Nothing that would stop me from moving, although I believe I may have bruised a rib," Yuuki said, voice still shaky. "Do you have any idea what on earth attacked us? Or where this is, for that matter?" He patted himself down after he spoke, face occasionally twisting slightly in pain. "Quite frankly it feels like I was tossed down a mountainside, though. . ." he commented as he searched his person thoroughly. His trusted partner Janah was still with him, but everything else seemed to be a total loss. He mourned for a moment at the loss of his notebook, a downtrodden look visible on his face.
  20. Stefan and Adero Ryu grinned as the group accepted the offer. "Awesome. Alright, Arch, you can take it from here." He took the ferretlike Mediator out of his jacket and lowered him to the ground with one arm. Arch took a few strides forward, and gazed upward at the two he was about to contract with. The serious expression on his face might have looked rather comical, really; having a ferret glare at you was rather unusual. He started with Adero. The mediator's eyes seemed to glow with an inward light - or perhaps it was just a trick of the sun. Either way, the man would have felt something strange infusing his body, as the pulse from the Mediator cleared the path for his own magical energy to free fully. It might have been pleasant, even euphoric, it might have been a process of searing pain. The reactions always varied. After he was finished with Adero, he turned to Stefan and repeated the process. ((Other stuff coming later.))

  22. a lot of what the TSA does isn't actually helping airline safety though. Not hurting, but not actually helping either, I'd have to find the source again to give specifics
