[IC] Fate/Reborn [First Holy Grail War]
Chevaleresse replied to Shamitako's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
Siegfried The beast. . . it's restless. More than likely it just wants to kill something. Hopefully that "something" is an enemy Servant and not some poor woman minding her own business. He shook his head. Ashnard was a truly incomprehensible creature, utterly lost to madness and hate. He pondered what to do with the creature once this was all over, assuming it didn't result in his life ending. These Command Seals, absolute orders. That should do the trick, though I must say I feel less than secure with it sealed from harming me. The mage was drawing closer to two Masters at the same time, though he wasn't aware. A third Master-Servant pair also skirted dangerously close to his network; if they weren't careful, they would set the huntsman and his hound on their trail... -
Ymora Academy Chapter 1: Bonds [IC]
Chevaleresse replied to Chim's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
"I'm here for the breeding program. This place is pretty famous for it, y'know." He elected not to elaborate on his personal reasons, at least for now. "What are we supposed to do for entertainment around here, anyway? Most of my stuff's gonna be a few days behind me, and it's gonna be boring as hell if we're stuck in our dorms or something the whole time." Lucas was finding his own entertainment in the meantime; he lightly poked the Riolu with a telekinetic pulse, and let out a friendly murmur. -

"I'm Tsukihashi Kageharu, but just call me Kage." He gestured vaguely in the direction of the Ralts near his feet. "This guy's Lucas." He stuck a hand out at Robert, offering it to shake. "Good to meet you. What program are you here for?" Meanwhile, Lucas was examining Kiai and his trainer quite thoroughly, though not in a hostile fashion. He was just gathering information, like he always did. -
7/10. It's uh, interesting. And the character is Siegfried from Fate/Grand Order, aka Saber of Black from Fate/Apocrypha. Also a hero of Germanic legend, famous for slaying Fafnir and bathing in his blood to gain invulnerability.

Ymora Academy Chapter 1: Bonds [IC]

Robert "Huh? Oh, yeah, hi," Kage responded to the greeting, significantly flatter than he intended to be. There was a slight hesitation as he turned to face the stranger, Lucas turning to look before Kage did so. It was very brief; many people may not have noticed it. "Sorry, dealing with all this paperwork and crap annoys me. I'm not much of a reader," he added truthfully. His voice reflected his upbringing fairly well, almost contrasting his personality; it had a well-educated sound despite his word choice, but it came through a strong Hoenn accent. Lucas was a bit more sociable than his trainer, distracted though he was, and murmured a greeting to the Riolu that had prompted the conversation. A slight tug at Kage's sleeve prompted the boy to lift the Fairy-type off his shoulder and let him slide to the ground in a familiar motion, putting him at eye level with the smaller of the two newcomers. -

[IC] SoA-Ep1: Passage
Chevaleresse replied to Sutoratosu's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
Yuuki's mouth actually hung open a bit, completely forgetting that it was entirely possible he was still in mortal peril. "What on earth was that?" he said out loud. The unknown Pokemon had obviously been an anomaly in and of itself, but that burst of radiance... it was unlike any phenomenon he had ever witnessed. It seemed to have left some sort of jewels behind. I suppose. . . we killed it, then. His awe at what he had just witnessed was blunted by the realization that he had just witnessed the death of a possibly unique existence. The scholar shook his head. It was a shame. He bent over to pick up one of the strange gems, intending to collect a few for observation.- 189 replies

Ymora Academy Chapter 1: Bonds [IC]
Chevaleresse replied to Chim's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
Kage was one of the last ones to arrive before the gates opened, faced with the unfortunate combination of wanting to get there without his parents hovering and his parents being something of a cross between humans, hummingbirds, and Apache helicopters. He did manage to fend them off eventually, however, with them giving their last hugs and then returning to the airport. Lucas, however, was in his usual place; the Ralts was almost always perched on his shoulder, helping the teen negotiate obstacles without the use of the cane stuffed deep into his backpack. The Psychic-type also helped with an otherwise thoroughly insurmountable obstacle; his registration papers. The Hoenn native fumbled with the things in hand, attempting to get them into their proper order. Lucas made a small positive noise when his trainer finally managed to get them right side up and ordered correctly. After doing so, Kage adjusted his sunglasses with one hand, hoping that no one looked askance at him for wearing them at 9 AM, and proceeded into the main building to complete his registration. Along the way, he fumbled for the ID in his back pocket. It had a small notch in the upper left-hand corner, unlike the infernal and unmanageable papers. He hoped his irritation at having to deal with printed media canceled out the nervousness he felt about a certain omission on his registration as he handed the forms to the person at one of the main desks. -

So, lately, I've been thinking about an issue that we run into very frequently in some roleplays on this forum: nobody ever tries to do anything by themselves. This presents a huge problem to hosts and players alike, though the burden primarily falls on the host. When your players have zero initiative, it forces you as a host to put a lot more effort into creating and guiding players into encounters that might not have necessarily existed in the first place, bending your plan for the plot. Players suffer because they're dependent on host interaction, constantly waiting on another update that has to be written especially for them rather than finding another character to interact with, which should be a focus of roleplays in the first place. This also prevents some roleplays from working at all. For example, the main running RP from a forum I used to be a regular on was essentially just a setting. Here's what the world looks like, these are the existing political/environmental/whatever situations, go. The thing went on for pages and pages and pages of player-to-player interaction, with (mostly) well-developed characters and an intriguing, complex plot generated solely by the actions of the players. Players took the places of everyone from common soldiers and mechanics to government leaders and what were essentially superheroes, and there were very OOC conflicts because the players themselves set the rules. That sort of thing would never function here, because no one ever DOES anything. I quite frankly find this issue bizarre in the extreme, because in every other place I've done anything remotely akin to roleplaying the opposite problem exists; everyone is too busy goofing around or advancing their own subplots to move the game forward. Whenever open situations come up here, the host is often simply informed that the character "has nothing to act on," or they have "no reason to post." Basically, to get to a point, this is me asking why this continues to be a problem, and if it's possible for people to make an effort to rectify this.
