  1. "Nothing unusual. Can't sleep. Comes with the territory." He said the last bit with a a vague gesture towards his face. "Don't worry about it."
  2. "Well. Um. Okay then." He looked about at the acolytes gathered outside the building. Waving his hand to indicate that they should follow, he started walking down the street toward the Pokemon Center. "Come on, guys, it'll be nice and warm inside." Absolution walked along beside him, looking ever so slightly disappointed. He had wanted to try his strength against the acolytes or the gym leader, but he guessed he could settle for guarding this group.
  3. "Thank you, my good man." As he headed off toward the Emporium, he looked at Elemus with a raised eyebrow. "Evidently I've inherited a title while I wasn't looking." After thinking for a moment, he asked the steed a question. "By the way, I don't mean to be rude, but would you mind waiting outside? I can't imagine the reaction I would receive for taking 'my' horse into the building."
  4. Kage stumbled his way into the hall as usual, though he looked slightly less disheveled than usual thanks to the assistance of his parents. He shuffled his way towards Ryan with a zombielike gait, his steps guided in part by Lucas. He thumped down into a seat behind Ryan just after the buzzer went off and slumped back into the chair. He mumbled something that might have been a greeting, then turned his energies toward not falling asleep.
  5. Dying slightly slower than your opponent is a legitimate combat strategy.

I was talking about combat in general.

Ah, never mind then, yeah, like I was saying... Preemptive strikes, man. If you've got the capabilities and you don't care about honor or things like that...

  6. Not everything is a race issue, man. Terrorism in a third world country gets less attention than terrorism in a first world country, that's why you see a big stink about this and not about Boko Haram. (Which we really should care more. I mean, if I recall correctly, they're the ones that attack schools and such because apparently education is evil.)
  7. Matrim nodded to Elemus. He spoke in a low whisper to reply, not wanting to make the townsfolk think he was mad. "That sounds like a good plan." He took a few steps toward the closest person on the street. "Excuse me, but would you know where one could obtain traveling supplies? We happen to be preparing for a bit of a trip and need to stock up on the essentials."
  8. {Conclave Squad - Outside} "Uhm. . . Yeah. I think. I haven't really been around here. I don't like the cold." Sarcus took a look around him trying to gauge where they were in the city. "Is the Pokemon Center around here still operating? They've got supplies for Trainers, too, generally."
  9. I do believe there are a few rebornians that have knowledge of this.
  10. I GOT AN ACCEPTANCE LETTER! PRAISE CTHULHU

  11. ugh school. Can I just take Calc and maybe Econ then leave?

  12. BOTH OF THESE OML "no, I am not sexually attracted to that desk. No, that does not mean I would have sex with you right at this moment. That's omnisexual (I think)." @the Tor question: Tor is a browser thingy that allows one to have their traffic virtually untraceable, with the usage of a lot of encryption and routing your traffic to three (basically random) nodes first before connecting to the server. The effect is that the only way to actually monitor what goes on an .onion website is monitoring both the server and the client, which is damn near impossible. It allows people in countries like China to bypass government restrictions, allows whistleblowers and such to communicate anonymously, but also allows nasty stuff like hired killers and drug trafficking. TIL that I have a 66% winrate with my 5k friends.
  13. What do you do when you feel like the world has slowed to a crawl around you, and you aren't really enjoying yourself doing anything?

  15. I figure it'll be a good exercise for everyone, as well as a handy base for any authors looking for material*. If anyone is interested we could turn this into a little contest, but for now I'll just post a few songs and eventually get cracking on a few. My suggestions will be kept to songs about individuals. *With permission, of course. These characters are intellectual property and that should be respected. Here's a basic format/mini-tutorial. Name: Drawing from foreign languages can help, as well as name generators. For the appropriate genres, fictional languages can help. My latest character's name consists of three bits taken from Greek and Sindarin (better known as Elvish.) (Genre/Universe: Optional, but if it's written as a character in an existing 'verse it helps to mention it.) Appearance: More important than you think. Try to make their appearance relevant to the character's personality or backstory. Personality: Normally this should come up in writing, but since these are characters sliced loose from participation in a work of fiction it is best to mention it here. This is where a lot of Sues crop up, so please take a look and check if it is interesting and/or realistic. Special Abilities: Most characters exist because they are exceptional in some way. What, exactly, makes them exceptional? Are they a master tactician able to spot strategies with a passing glance? Can they light their eyeballs on fire? Even if it's not a strictly paranormal ability, mention any outstanding traits. Songs: Dragonaut - Judas Priest The Soulforged - Blind Guardian Ocean Soul - Nightwish The Savior - Iron Savior Maid of Orleans - Dark Moor Yes, they're all power metal. Deal with it.
  16. Let's see here. . . I'm Murdoc, King, KM, whatever, I can usually tell if you're trying to get my attention. My favorite genres to read and write are fantasy and science fiction, and postapocalyptic flavor doesn't hurt. I absolutely despise literary analysis and if you try to find too much deeper meaning in something I write that isn't a poem then I will hit you with a copy of The Eye of the World until you forget about it and read the book. My strengths as a writer are my broad vocabulary, my wide base of knowledge, my ability to come up with a coherent reason for everything that occurs in something I write, my grammar, and my unsurpassed humility. My weaknesses are a tendency for my characters to sound overly formal and a lack of variation in sentence structure, combined (almost paradoxically) with a tendency to repeat words and/or phrases. I also try a bit too hard to avoid cliche and end up slipping into others, and I tend to put a bit too much of my own personality into my characters.
  17. I'm not surprised. I do question how what you do with your genitalia affects how you drive, though.
  18. on humans again: we are most certainly NOT bog-standard. The human body is geared for two things: supporting the brain and being able to take one hell of a punishment and be fine in a week. We completely lack any sort of natural weapon other than punches, kicks, and bites with a relatively small amount of muscle mass behind us, putting our offensive power even below that of a rabbit (for our size, of course.) Humans also lack the ability to naturally adapt to a variety of climates: our anatomy works best in tropical climates and we lack the ability to really survive extremes of heat or cold. A human's skin is not protected by any sort of natural armor, either. However, there are two things that no one else has. One is our ability to preserve information across generations and convey complex information. The other is our absurd endurance. The primary theory behind how humans hunted is that we WALKED things to death. We literally followed prey until it collapsed of exhaustion. We recover from wounds at an astronomical pace compared to most of the animal kingdom. Our scar tissue usually covers up wounds within a day or so, and a person can simply walk away after losing an arm and have a fair chance of not only living but surviving to reproduce. We're built to take damage; a bone is stronger after a break and muscles are more powerful after being torn. You can survive for quite some time with vital organs damaged or shut down given that your body is still circulating oxygen. tl;dr we can walk a really long way and heal fast, and we're smart. Humans are only viewed as standard because we're the only form of intelligent life we know of.
  19. Said minority has been the source of a LOT of issues in Europe, however. Most of it is not their fault but religious tension is high, which I personally don't understand since the Abrahamic religions make up most of the population and they've all got basically the same core tenets.

All I will say is Rider vs Archer.

  22. Matrim headed into the village and looked for somewhere to buy supplies. He knew they would need food, blankets, bedrolls, possibly tents. . . all sorts of things. He didn't want to think little of the others but he doubted that they would be thinking about these comparatively minor things. He absently hummed a tune to himself as he moved through the city.
