Yay! That's great news! I can fill the Ferrothorn gap with something else bulky like Cradily for the time being. Just realized I am missing a defense against flying types... do I drop Type Null for something else slow and bulky buit with some actual coverage like Ampharos?... though then I have a big hole in my ghost defenses... not that Type:Null does much against ghosts... Edit: Also... couldn't I breed calm mind off of Woobat onto Primarina since they are both field types... or am I crazy?

Hi Everyone, With a quarantine in effect in my city I have returned to Reborn to pass some time... but I am very rusty and have been struggling on team construction (honestly I was never very good to begin with). I wanted to know if this idea would be viable and playable in reborn (since it's the hardest Pokemon game I have ever played and you can't just pick your favourite Pokemon and hope for a win). The team was inspired by the VCG 2017 AFK core; Arcanine, Tapu Fini, and Kartana; often backed up by a Garchomp, Snorlax, and Gigalith, but since obviously some of those Pokemon aren't available, and some I don't like I changed things around a little. I won't go into too much detail on the sets themselves, but I would love to hear people's opinions on whether this is a playable team given how hard Reborn is: Primarina - Calm Mind Special Sweeper Arcanine - Bulky (maybe?) Physical Sweeper Flygon - Physical Sweeper Spiritomb - Defensive Tank Type: Null - Defensive Tank Ferrothorn - Rock and Spike Setter From a type coverage standpoint both offensive and defensive, I think it covers everything I need. It has decent mix of roles, though is definitely a little heavy on physical damage over special. Does this team actually have what it takes to make in in Reborn? Help and suggestions greatly appreciated!

Stunfisk is a moderately rare encounter, just keep wandering around in its location and it will show up.

Trying to steer clear of another trick room team if I can (pretty happy with my current trick roomers), but it's certainly not out of the question. I've been putting some thought of my own into it and have been considering Bisharp and Froslass to cover my significant ice weakness... but that generate a new fire weakness in 2/3 of my team...
-
With my trick room team finished it is now time for a new challenge. This one is just kind of random pokemon I like using (as discovered by showdown random battles) and is less of a challenge and more just for fun... but I don't know how to round out the team... or what moves to give them... As it stands I have 4 pokemon I'd really like to include: Whimsicott, Dragalge, Gastrodon, and Vespiqueen. All 4 of these pokemon have served me really really well in one way or another during showdown... but obviously they generate some major issues... like a huge weakness to ice and flying attacks! Of these 4 pokemon I have planned 1 out fully: Whimsicott -substitute -leech seed -giga drain -moonblast 2 that I'm a little unsure about (I will mark the areas I am unsure of with ??????): Vespiqueen -defend order -roost -attack order -substitute/air slash?????? Gastrodon -toxic -scald -recover -hidden power earth?????? And one that I only have a vague idea (the pokemon is for sure but his moves... no idea!): Dragalge -sludge wave?????? -dragon pulse?????? -?????? -?????? This leave 2 final slots to fill... and I think I'm in pretty rough shape at this point! So please, players of Reborn, lend me some suggestions to help round out and finish my team!

Don't know why you guys are hating on mega Pidgeot. No guard hurricane sounds way too OP for Reborn.
-
Perhaps it is time to take a break from showdown... today in Random I lost 200 points of rank... the main culprits a combination of my average tactics and some incredibly bad luck...

Rearranged abilities again?! Noooooooo!

True, but there isn't anything I can really do about it. He's on the team for better or worse. Honestly, overall I'm not doing nearly as badly as I thought I would. My total score is right in the middle of the pack of my friends (one of them has run into the unfortunate challenge of having 1 OU pokemon and the rest UU, so the only time he gets to battle almost on even ground is against me, and I take him to town lol). Edit: And for whatever inexplicable reason we're back! Went on a mad kill streak with a win:loss ratio of 3/1. It was a good night for the team. I'm definitely getting better with it and have even had sceptile actually put in proper work now that I've got the hang of where and what he can switch in on (getting that mega off has been risky sometimes) Edit 2: Being tired is the key to my team losing... lost 12 battles in a row... basically erased all my progress for the day... I will never play after 1am again. Edit 3: For all who doubt the power of the loonster, a typical Linoone sweep from the original list lol http://replay.pokemonshowdown.com/uu-192353150

Today did not go so well for our team, lads! After a crazy day of wrecking house yesterday (6:7 win to loss ratio), the team has dropped back down to losing almost every game... Today was 1:10 win:loss ratio (been a discouraging day of only 3 wins and 30 losses, but ended on a win, so I at least have that to be thankful for). Guess the force just wasn't with me. One problem may be that people may have become aware there is a Linoone in the UU circuit because everyone is suddenly becoming much better at stalling him out, and without the loooooone I typically don't have the sweeping power I need to push things over the edge.
-
Isn't Gastrodon too slow to ever need to make use of speed EVs? The only thing he'll outspeed are pokemon who are specifically slow to make use of gyroball and trick room, and then the speed helps even less. Also, with only linoone as priority, will this team be fast enough to take down a boosted target like swift swim kingdra (not the best example, since I know Armaldo is very effective against it thanks to battle armour, but something similar)? Up until this point to deal with obscenely fast things I've been getting a toxic off with Gastrodon (who can always take 1 hit), then extreme speeding with linoone and arcanine, and letting the toxic finish the job.

Linoone has to stay as part of the rules of the challenge. Of my favourite pokemon it is second in my heart (right behind sceptile, sometimes surpassing him to take first). The best I could do is drop Armaldo or Gastrodon (you'll notice they don't have nicknames) for Starmie (A.K.A. Thunderstruck) but that doesn't alleviate the issue at hand much. But take heart my friends for it is... through some strange twist of fate the most terrifying sweeper on the team and has single-handedly won more matches than any of the other pokemon (if not for earthquake/outrage flygon's occasional sweeps I'd be tempted to say combined) on my team. The key is to bring it in on a safe switch against pokemon tanks, walls, clerics, hazard-setters, or stalls and go to town (anything not maximizing offense really). The goal is that the opponent will only hit for >75% (sometimes they miss and it's even better), so the berry triggers and bellydrum goes off. Then go to town with the HP that's left (the amount of times that it has been 4% when I'm finished makes me suspect that there's a pattern worth examining there, I really need to pay closer attention to the attacks I survive). The only pokemon I have seen resist him so far are mega-aggron and umbreon, all the others have been swept with damage to spare. He's also been useful as a revenge killer thanks to extreme speed. Making due with what I have the team has been doing really well the past couple days and is now above a 50:50 win:loss ratio! I would be really happy if you'd be willing to show me an in depth analysis of each pokemon though! It would be really helpful!

You could always breed? It would just take a very long time for each pokemon.

battles versus gym leaders and important trainers
Anthalt replied to alaneapen's topic in Reborn City
I try to find the line between getting kicked around and doing the kicking. I like my reborn to have a real challenge during the gym battles so that I feel like I really earned my wins lol -
I had an arceus for one turn of one battle? Does that count?
-
I made an alternate list based on the suggested changes. I can't tell if it's better or not... the win:loss ratio is still about the same, games just go much faster because the team is less stall based without sub-seeder sceptile. If I had to guess I'd say I've pretty much come as far as I can go... Maybe changing out the choice band on Flygon for a life orb would be an alright option (since getting locked into one move... even if that move is god-tier hard hidding... just doesn't feel tactically good)... Basically it makes linoone and flygon glass cannons... and that's a lot of glass.
-
Do you think it would be better to divide up Gastrodon's EVs between defense and special defense or just go full on special defense? And leave the physical defense up to Armaldo (his typing isn't the best for trying to tank physical defense...)?
-
If I swap sceptile to mega should I also change it out from sub-seeder to special sweeper or leave it as a sub-seed staller but with an even higher speed to put up the sub?

My friends and I wanted to have a slightly unusual challenge. We wanted to have a match between only our favourite pokemon. So we all made our teams... and mine is by far the most severely hurt by my choice of favourites. I would like help to improve my team so it doesn't get swept quite so hard every time I use it (win:loss ratio in UU about 1:2). Given the nature of the challenge I cannot change my pokemon, but I can change their abilities, items, moves, and EVs. Help me optimize my team further please (Also I would love some name suggestions for Armaldo and Gastrodon)! Innis (Sceptile) (M) @ Leftovers Ability: Overgrow EVs: 252 SpA / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Timid Nature - Leech Seed - Substitute - Giga Drain - Focus Blast Clark (Arcanine) (M) @ Air Balloon Ability: Flash Fire EVs: 252 Atk / 4 Def / 252 Spe Adamant Nature - Extreme Speed - Flare Blitz - Close Combat - Crunch Clamps (Armaldo) (M) @ Leftovers Ability: Battle Armor EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD Impish Nature - Stealth Rock - X-Scissor - Rapid Spin - Stone Edge Zoomy (Flygon) (M) @ Choice Scarf Ability: Levitate EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SpD / 252 Spe Adamant Nature - U-turn - Earthquake - Outrage - Defog Goku (Linoone) (M) @ Sitrus Berry Ability: Gluttony EVs: 252 HP / 252 Atk / 4 Spe Adamant Nature - Seed Bomb - Belly Drum - ExtremeSpeed - Shadow Claw Kombu (Gastrodon) (M) @ Leftovers Ability: Storm Drain EVs: 248 HP / 252 Def / 8 SpD Bold Nature - Scald - Toxic - Recover - Earth Power

Go team Canada! Always great to hear about more reborn people from the frozen north

I do love ampharos... Maybe I will power one up and fold him into the rotation (it's a big pool to draw on for rotation already).

Alright, heatproof Bronzong with trick room, extrasensory and gyroball it is! May take confuse ray over iron defense just for the chance of a little hax. That will give me 2 fire resistant pokemon (I'll try to go bulky on the crawdaunt's evs). I think the team is actually pretty decent... definitely more synergy than my sunny day team (venesaur sweep!). I'm pleased with it... though I think I may be a little light on special attackers... with only 3 special attacks moves in the whole bunch. Perhaps I should swap Blissey out for something with a couple stab special attacks? What do you guys think, any more suggestions?
-
In order from most favourite to least but still super high favourite 1) Sceptile 2) Linoone 3) Flygon 4) Arcanine Then things get hazy... with a tie for 5th... they swap around depending on the day. Armaldo, Gastrodon, Starmie

The updated team as of right now is: Crustle - stealth rocks - shell smash - x scissor - rockslide Cofagrigus - trick room - nasty plot - shadowball - wil'o wis Chestnaught - spiky shield - leech seed - hammer arm - wood hammer Crawdaunt - crab hammer - crunch - aqua jet - ??? I could use a suggestion for this last slot... maybe swords dance, protect, or taunt? Could someone suggest some useful EVs for this guy? Obviously his attack is solid and so should probably get a helpful portion of them but his defenses and his hit points are pretty low... thoughts? Blissey - toxic - hidden power fighting - heal bell - soft boiled (wish I had thought to add wish to my breeding chain... though I don't know if toxic, healbell and wish could have been bread in together) Bronzong -don't know the moveset I can make in reborn yet... suggestions would be greatly appreciated! An alternative to Blissey I have been considering would be an Earthquake and Eruption Camerupt... but I don't know if the inclusion of fire and ground attacks is entirely necessary to support my current team's coverage more than I already have. Thoughts? Is more offense worth the loss of the semi-stall cleric wall?

It's probably too late to suggest this, since bulbasaur is available before and after your current point (starter and previous episode), but a sunny day pokemon (say, Sunflora for the hell of it) and a chlorophyll Venesaur may be enough to crumble cities into ruin. I have been running a drought Ninetails and chlorophyll Venesaur and it's honestly the biggest powerhouse I've ever seen! Get sleep powder and growth on Venesaur and just boost for days before going for a terrifying sweep. Ice types, fire types, psychic types,... basically anything but steel and Venesaur just doesn't care... it's going to steamroll them.
