  1. "You see, that's the problem with mortals like you, boy. You all want the power, crave the power, lust for the power, but most of you don't want to bleed for the power. most of You are unwilling to subject yourselves to suffering or enduring hardships in order to pay for the gift you request, despite the fact that nothing comes free, not even a God's help. And then when we refuse to give you the power because of that, you get your panties in a bunch and call us unfair and unfe...

And besides... it's been a good while since I've heard of a story that pits magic users up directly against deities... at least within a context not directly centered in mythological urban fiction.

Hmmm... interesting I don't really intend to portray organized religion as entirely benevolent or innocent anyway, so I've really got nothing to lose.

Alright, that'll do for now, thanks Mael.

  2. well, She said last night in Ymora's OOC that she's been more or less out of commission fighting Tonsillitis for the past few days, so... that probably explains it.

  4. So, after a shit ton of work and dead ends and reworking, I've finally finished Makoto's profile. And as for the ability, again I've discussed it at length with hiss, and this time I know with absolute certainty that everything about it is physically possible given there are modern day military technologies that have been researched and deployed using the same basic principles, as well as tech existing with the canon To Aru verse. So none of ya'll should have any reasons whatsoever to go throwing monkey wrenches into the works this time. anyway, Hiss, you will find it in Post #41, on page 3 of this thread.

  10. Well, I appreciate the feedback at least. For the profanity bit, I can't really comment too much about as it's really more of a subjective thing- for some people it tends to simply fall into the style of their narrative for their own reasons to use a bit of it, such as for tone, while for others, it may seem like an unnecessary choice made solely to cover up something lacking on the authors part, when in fact it may not be the exact case. I'm generally not the type to go scattering nuclear F-bombs hither and tither, but I'm also not afraid to insert a few things here and there either if I feel it will help get the tone and general feeling about the scene I myself am experiencing and seeing it as across...which more than a few post I've made in various RPs will attest to from my narration of the character's POV. that's simply part of my style, be warned now. If it feels right to me when things are being drafted, then I won't be afraid to include it. That said though, the amount of it that is included will vary because of that. Some chapters may have a bit more usage, while some may have less. It's not really something I can explain very easily without a long rambling...all I can say that in this case, what it really comes down to is individual perception on whether or not Profanity is necessary at all in a story. As for the bit about the trainer not putting a dent in Surge's team- this is not regular pokemon. I'd like to reiterate that single fact. I've drafted my own changes to the league system and standards when I originally made this world for Sins of Avalon, and Gym Leaders and Elite Four Members are far more powerful than they are in the games, and defeating them by simply relying on type matchups alone isn't enough in the world of Sins of Avalon- one must actually use strategy and be able to adapt to changing variables on the field of battle, something which the young man who challenged surge lacked the skills to do, hence his easy defeat. Being able to sweep a gym with one or two super-effective mons was something I never really was too fond of, so when I made the league system for this, I made sure to make it so that winning a badge took actual, genuine effort on part of the trainer. As for the lack of certain details and the short nature of the chapter- do recall that this is my first actual attempt at a Single-Author story in five whole years and the fact that it's merely a prologue; It's meant to convey a basic glimpse into the world of SoA as well as Surge as a persona and establish a bit of who he will be. Prologues are by their very nature relatively short, and I'm not going to be pulling out all the stops just yet in terms of my descriptions and intricate attention to every little detail, because again, I've been out of the loop for half a decade- I need some time to get readjusted from the writing experience I have had in recent times and get my bearings again; it's like when you go out in the winter and start up an old car- you need to give the old motor it a minute to sit and warm up before you just go for a joy ride. As for the present though, the prologue fitted the ends I personally wanted it to, and I felt more or less satisfied with it's length because to me, trying to tack on more to it felt abit artificial because all that I wanted out of it had been done... so I really so no point trying to make it longer and just went ahead and posted it. All this said however, as things progress and the story develops and I obviously figure myself out once again (Not that I honestly hade myself figured out very well the first time as a 12 year old kid though...), there will be more attention to detail and the chapters will generally be longer... or some of them may be shorter, depending on what I have planned individually. While we're on the subject though, I'd like to clarify- I'm largely doing this for myself, not for constructive criticism or anything. While I will have the respect to at least listen to what people say if they choose to take the time out of their day to make a comment, even if I don't necessarily agree with it, I'm not going to be scrambling out of the way to try to adhere or mold myself to every comment or opinion that pops up- only those that I feel have a valid point and are worth going to the length of observing. Most things will be taken with a grain of salt though. This is largely a combination of an online stress ball, as well as a test of confidence and resolve for myself to see if I'm willing to commit to something and stick to my guns... so yeah, like I said in the OP, I really don't care if people actually comment on the story here- it's not explicitly intended for self improvement. Now, if I do so happen to improve myself over the course of it, then great, but if I don't, I'm not gonna shed any tears, because that wasn't the overall point to begin with. That point of this, more than anything else, is to finally prove something to my own self, not to anyone else; to prove something I've been psychologically struggling with for a long time now. I'm fully aware that everyone's always improving and that you can never get to a point where you've "Mastered" it. But right now, I'm facing a wall that I feel will block the road to any further improvement in my many years to come if I don't either scale it, destroy it, or find a way around it now. So my objective here isn't to explicitly improve- it's to ensure that I will have the conviction needed to continue down this road I've chosen, and continue to improve despite whatever obstacles may come my way. As I said before, it is a psychological test and stress ball more than anything. I am however, glad that someone is enjoying it though, or at least feels it has promise, So I must thank you for that.
  11. Ya know, in hindsight... I don't really know why people were surprised by the fact that Eddard Stark died in GoT... I mean, the man was played by Sean Bean for crying out loud... that in and of itself should've been a dead give away about the character's fate.

His character stays alive in the new movie "The Martian," although he has a fairly minor role in that one. But the movie also references LotR in one of the scenes that he's in and he has to explain what the Council of Elrond was. Fun movie.

Everyone dies in GoT eventually. Shouldn't be all too surprising.

  12. and Ironically, I'd have more than enough background knowledge to do that far more easily than Science side... plus, with the magic side, the possibilities for abilities a magician can have is arguably far more varied- simply because of how many different esoteric disciplines there exists in the real world and the amount of symbolism literally everywhere...plus there are no shortage of occult websites out there that can explain it all in laymen's terms...on top of the wiki articles too. But I digress- I'm nearly done with Makoto's Profile. I'm still working on the backstory, but everything else is more or less finsihed, and it's coming along rather far and I should have it fleshed out enough to insert it soon.
  13. Yes, I pray so as well... having had to put down the beginnings of a potential one not long ago... Anyway... like lexi said earlier, before my... wizardly rage against the scientific machine began: Pretty much this. Keep it simple overall- find a single law of physic/ closely related sets of laws, like the three of us have- Murdoc for Light/ Optics and reflectivity, Lexi for... I guess Kinetic Motion... and myself for Sound and Vibrations (And yes, I said Vibrations... cause technically, that's what causes sound). Keep it isolated to a single thing or things that go hand in hand/ are subsets of one another, but avoid trying to make a power that functions off two completely unrelated laws... cause it won't make sense. after you;ve found the law to base the function off of, get an idea for how the ability can exploit said law or slightly bend it, then profit... lols, no. Just kidding, no profits for you. What you really do, is go and do a shit ton of research to make sure that the idea you have would actually be plausible and doesn't break space and time and all of heavenly creation and whatnot. As for balance, just keep it simple and it should fall into place rather easily as a result of not being overly convoluted... As for the deeper stuff about what you propose though, I believe I'll have to leave any specific critique or pointers to the more versed folks here who actually know something about the laws of the universe and whatnot... given I'm merely an Esoteric and Occult Dabbler who is quite literally out of his element here.
  14. Will do. Don't be surprised if the Appearance and Personality end up being tweaked or changed a bit as well... I've thought long and hard last night about a few things... Pretty much the only thing that is likely to remain untouched is the power (Cause it was enough of a bitch to make the first time around. Plus, I've figured out a few techniques to make it rather handy...) and maybe the skills. Edit: Oh dear god...it's starting to come together... Onward, men! Onward I say! We have the upper haaaand!
  15. Yeah, basically everything that these two said ((As Alexus pretty much addressed all that needs to be addressed at the moment)) And feel free to take a look around at the various other RPs here as well to get a general idea for how things run and what She's talking about. If you need it, any of the three of us can easily answer any questions about role-playing you might have.

The doors won't even lock... that shit is totally dead.

Hell, I'd be worried about having to leave the driver door unlocked so my father and I can look at it later, but I don't think anyone's gonna be able to hot wire the damn thing... not like it is.

  18. God damn it... I know your pain, brother, believe me. Computer crashes are fucking evil. Hence why I've taken to keeping at least a few written notes around ever since I lost all the files for Auroral Starfall... (Though something even better came out of that fiasco, so eh, maybe this will be the same?... wistful thinking? Perhaps...)
  19. Yuzuki "...partially correct." Khan said simply, starring at the pile of gems and blazing stones that was once the beast. "There exists a very...old tale within Kalos. One dating back so far, few if any people even know it these days... a story of a man called Charlemagne. A knight... but not a knight of men. A knight whose bond with his partner was so powerful, that together, they were able to achieve power beyond that of even mega evolution... the power to bring death to the undying and silence the breath of the everlasting... a power that the story says, is a final gift, a gift that died with Charlemagne, and will never again manifest itself... the very same type of power that your gaggle of friends over there just finished displaying. The legendary pokemon are each endowed with the privilege of Immortality, with the divine protection and grace of Arceus himself, girl... that is how they have survived this long, that is why they have never evolved- because with the power of God himself surging through their veins, however small an amount it may be, they are thus already rendered into their perfect forms by default... and need no further bodily improvement. And Charlemagne's Gift is the only way possible to remove that protection and revoke that immortality..." He looked back over at the others, eyeing them from behind the veils of tinted black glass... "Volcanion, the legendary beast of fire and steam- the only being in the entire world who housed to polar opposite typings, both Fire and Water, within the same vessel...and now He is no more."
  20. Name: Komuri Makoto Age: 20 Gender: Male Appearance: Approximately 5"7. Has a semi-fair complexion with a head full of shoulder length, fringed black hair that often partially obscures one of his vibrantly crimson eyes. His most notable traits, however, are his feminine-looking face and physical build- narrow shoulders, a slight frame, and neutral voice pitch combined with a curved hip line- leading the vast majority of people to have mistaken Makoto for a female throughout his life. His typical dress consists of little more than a long white coat draping down to his calfs, overtop a loose, black turtle neck and form fitting black jeans. Backstory: Personality: Suave and overall friendly, unless you decide to screw with him. Makoto is a man of his word, and doesn't take Obligations lightly- subsequently willing to put in genuine work and effort towards a task without complaint, holding himself, and at times others as well, to his own personal standards all the while. He is a staunch and loyal friend, valuing the people he loves incredibly high and willing to go far out of his way to help them, regardless of potential risk to himself, or the possibility of having to resort to some questionable activities or means to reach the desired end. Over time he's largely come to just stop caring altogether whenever someone mistakes his biological sex for female and won't even try to correct it anymore unless it's actually necessary for the sake of official accuracy. Beneath His good-natured and likable surface though, lurks a darker side to Makoto. One that, while there may be only brief glimpses and flashes of it in certain situations and context, never fails to emerge in full force whenever someone he cares about has been threatened or harmed, or he himself feels he has been crossed- the side of Makoto that is ruthlessly vindictive, cruel, cunning, and calculated... the side of him that bears the same traits that once made people fear the wrath of his grandfather, long ago... Ability Name: "Howling Dirge" Ability Function: Technically a Vibration Control ability. Makoto's AIM Dispersion Field and Personal Reality grant him an Extrasensory Perception of vibration and sound and allows him to freely manipulate Sonic variables, and by extension, sound energy, via his Aim Diffusion Field. His ability is capable of generating a Sound Wave with a maximum intensity rivaling that of flash-bang grenade (approximately 180 decibels), and a maximum frequency of up to 100,000 Hertz, and can reflect sounds by recalculating their formulas and variables, as well as selectively cancel out sounds via the same procedure of recalculating, which can be used to set his AIM Field to discriminate between and render any sound interacting with it mute; In contrast though, it can also be used to amplify sounds up to the maximum decibel and frequency level he can manage, or even distort or morph a sound by altering it's frequency and resonance. It is even possible for Makoto to use his ability to manipulate sound in such a way as to Direct and focus a sound wave into a concentrated directional beam that can cause intense and debilitating pain, vertigo, disorientation, and even death to targets depending on the intensity and frequency, and has a maximum effective range of approximately 50 meters at it's most focused degree. Extra Skills: Highly Knowledgeable in the fields of Sound, Vibration, Resonance, and Acoustics. He is capable of masking his own voice and imitating those of others and doing impressions or various other sounds as well, thanks in no small part to his ability. He is adept in the art of stealth and discretion. He possesses a surprising knack for physical violence and is especially adept as a close-quarters melee combatant, though his marksmanship is none too shabby either.
  21. Well, I know at least I'm still alive. Yes..I know, Even I myself am somewhat surprised by this shocking development from the news desk I'm just more or less being a watcher for the time being though... seeing as how the only real thing I have to contribute with for Arya right now would be nothing but even more disappointment... and possibly a bit of guilt at seeing them somewhat start to breakdown like this. Though I could theoretically justify having her try to slap the sleep out of her wake up Lillith...I figured I'd step back a bit and give all the people who have more or less been quieter then ghosts so far a chance...
  22. Just screw it... And yeah, I could just go and steal something off the wiki, but that would honestly be kinda lazy in my eyes if I'm going to go to the length of making the character but not go the full mile and make the ability original too... and I don't do lazy. alright, so... one last try... let's just eliminate Decibels altogether...because at this rate, I may honestly just legit make him a level 0 with nothing just I can call it a day...shouldn't have to get a damn headache over all this. Cause I really don't feel like having to constantly calculate some type of logarithmic crap just to figure out what the actual perceived volume is or whatever... Ability Name: "Silent Line" Ability Function: Yuu's AIM Dispersion Field and Personal Reality grant him an extrasensory perception of Sound and subsequently allows him to alter the Volume Level (Sones/Phons), Frequency, and Direction of any Sound Energy that comes into contact with his AIM Field by recalculating their formulas. This essentially allows him to amplify or dampen, reflect/ focus or redirect it, or alter it's pitch. His AIM Field is capable of affecting Noise Volume, both incoming and outgoing, to the point of either soundproofing it or making it twice as loud as it originally was; For the value of the Frequency However, the absolute maximum factor of how much his AIM field is capable of altering from it's original level is a factor of approximately 3 times. There... just took it out. a sound being a Absolute Maximum of twice as loud is pretty reasonable I think... considering actual perceived loudness apparently isn't logarithmic like Decibels are ((God help me if they are...)). Same thing for Frequency, but if it's an issue like Decibels were, I can simply scrap it and just keep the direction and volume factor. Sorry if I come off as a bit irritable here, but, after a long day in classes and still having issues about this... just gets me a bit frustrated at physics overall... juuuuust a bit. Seriously though, why the hell did Aleister Crowley ever turn his back on Magic for this...?
  23. The value that would be calculated would be the Decibel rather than simply perceived magnitude. So it 3x on the decibel scale. If it seems too much, I can lower the maximum to 2.5 *Goes a bit deeper and looks at a few more things about decibels...sighs in frustration and defeat* Son of a bitch... well... all of that I read over from before was certainly very misleading. Are you kidding me though? they make it sound simple, as though it's short and sweet, but nooope, it's actually far more complicated... This is why I kinda hate physics... I'm starting to think I may not be cut out for this afterall... but no, in all seriousness, I might really not be...
