The Awakened - First Pillar (IC Thread)
Sutoratosu replied to Flux's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
Anver nodded, killing the Friction induced light he was making and lowering his hand again before pulling out his glock. He kept eyes fixed on the door, just encase the people who came through turned out not to be friendly. At the same time he set to using his Thermal Feild, prepared to detect any heat sigs that came near the other side of the door way. "Just to make entirely sure I don't put a bullet into the leg of anyone working with you," he said quickly. "What will these Extraction team members look like exactly? I don't much expect whatever's doing all this to just stay in one place and leave us sitting pretty right here..." -

"It's Anver," the man said cooly, unmoved by the boy's manner. "Anver Dun. And you don't have to be so curt about it, my friend. I don't intend to be an enemy to you; I've already decided that, but I don't think it's too much for me to assume whoever is causing or caused this blackout more than likely either won't, or already doesn't, share my thoughts on the matter." -

"I think I might have a solution for that..." Anver said as he finally caught up to Lux, noticing what the kid was going on about as he peered outside for a moment. The man held up the hand that wasn't carrying the Vapor Scotch and focused a little, driving the Molecular motion of the air above his palm faster and faster. Within seconds the friction and resulting heat was so great that a faint reddish orange glow began to emit from it, casting the Ex-CEOs face in a fiery backlight. "And can't you manipulate light or something?" he asked the teen, raising an eyebrow with his face still a ghostly orange. "That thing you did with your hand earlier, what about that?" -

Alrighty then. I knew that we can either choose to have our PCs abilities either grounded in the Supernatural (IE, no real scientific explanation) or based in physics, I just personally prefer grounding Anver's in physics because the physics which would make his power actually scientifically viable more or less are already existing or theorized and easy to find. Anyways, on to my rewrite~ What the explanation was previously: So previously I chalked up his power to being through Convection and Direct Thermal Conduction and said it was simple as that. Well, nope... let's just try that again because I'm somewhat of a Perfectionist. We need to go deeper now. Anver's Stated ability is Thermo-Kinesis, or the manipulation/ creation of Thermal Energy. While this is "correct" in a sense, in truth his real power is a technically Particle Manipulation, controlling atoms or molecules at the most basic level. How Anver's True power though, Particle Manipulation, Manifests itself iand how it functions is what makes calling it "Thermo-Kinesis" instead still correct to a degree. First, let us ask ourselves, what is "Temperature"? It is the form of Kinetic energy between Particles at an Atomic or Molecular level; the greater the movement of these particles, the greater the Thermal Energy produced, and vica-versa. the product of this motion, "Heat", is simply internal thermal energy that flows from one place to another; in other words, it is energy in transit. This brings us to our main point: Anver's real ability, Particle Manipulation, Manifests itself as him being able to subsequently control the movements of particles around him, he can either speed them up or slow them down, in turn either raising or decreasing temperature. This is the central basis of how he is able to do what he does. It still goes deeper, however. Anver is able to influence the particle motions in the air around him without having to actually be in the vicinity of the air he's manipulating, ergo, it serves as both a close and long ranged ability, the only real difference in the distance being that the farther away, the more focus Anver needs to exert on the Molecules in the air in order to speed up or slow down their motion. His influence over the molecules of Liquids works in a very similar manner, like with air, he does not have to be in the actual vicinity of the liquid in order to manipulate the Particle Motion. Unlike air, however, heat in liquids is capable of much faster transfer from one molecule to another due to the particles of a liquid being closer together than with Gases, and as such, him having to manipulate Liquids that are far away does not take as much focus as it would for manipulating air that was the same distance from him, so long as he was able to work his over to that spot by passing the influence along from one molecule to another. For example, say he's at a lake and his target is about 300 feet away in the center of the water's surface. Now, if they were on dry land, and the target surrounded by air instead of H2O, Anver would have to focus more than he would have to with the water, because the spacing of the air particles is too far to effectively conduct the same motion transfer he can with water. but since the target is in the lake, he can manipulate temperature far more easily simply initiating either a super boil or deep freeze from where he is at the water's front, and then spreading it out from one particle to another over time, effectively freezing or boiling the whole body of water. it should be noted that the chemistry of Human blood however, prevents him from being able to directly exert control of the particles in it effectively even with this principle (but the same can't be said for animals...). His influence over the particle motion of Solids, however, does require that he be in the vicinity of, if not have direct contact with, the object which he is trying to influence in order to manipulate it's temperature. He is not able to directly raise or lower their heat values from a ranged distance as he is with Liquid or Gaseous states of matter. However, when he is in vicinity and even more so when he can have direct contact with the thing, he can exert control of the Motion of the particles with far less concentration and focus then he needs for either Liquids or Gases. In addition, like with Liquids, the atoms of Solids are far closer together than liquids or gases, and as such he is able to conduct direct transfer of motion from one particle to another, which in other words means, if anything is touching the solid he is, he can by extension of the above mentioned principle influence the heat or cold of that object as well by spreading it. Onwards to techniques now. With his influence over the molecular motion of the air, He is able to take advantage of the "Warmer air rises above colder air" principle, and effectively move air to or from one location to another by exploiting it, resulting in him being capable of sending super heated or super chilled blasts of air hurtling at targets, or go on a tad smaller scale and up to use smaller, but taller and thinner bladelike waves of air, both of which more or less serves as a main combat option for him. Another option is to simply manipulate the particle motion of the air directly around his targets and either burning them by super heating it or freezing them solid by super chilling it. Theoretically, he could also condense and fire bullets of Thermally manipulated air by using the same principle that he does to send blasts. Another possibility is creating thermal barriers or walls of superheated or Supercooled air which could make humans, certain objects, and other organisms passing through it impossible without sustaining heavy damage and injury/ being burned up or frozen solid. A possible application for Close range could be him manipulating the particles around his fists or body and engaging in CQC (Close quarters combat) with his hands or other limbs cloaked in a layer of super burning or freezing air. Additionally, if he is able to physically get his hands on an assailant, he could easily... well, from my explanation thus far, I don't think I need to go into very much detail on what could happen in that situation. His ability also allows him to raise the temperature of things to flash point, or the point at which the burn, or to freeze point, which is self explanatory. As stated before, his bodily limit for heating is 3410 Degrees Celsius (6170 Degrees Farenheit) and his bodily limit for freezing is -273.51 Degrees Celsius (-459.67 Degrees Fahrenheit). Due to Anver's persona however, the more powerful or "Extremes" of his abilities combat uses, such as Temperature CQC or Barriers, will not be drawn on offensively very often due to self restraint in a fight, as already shown in multiple cases in the IC so far, Anver somewhat dislikes using Absolute force in a fight, preferring to just immobilized, hinder, or incapacitate his foe rather than killing them, even when he is not using his powers (Early on in chapter one, when the PCs were each separate still and fleeing the cops, Anver intentionally aimed for limbs with the shot he fired while moving through an alley way, wounding a cop in the outer thigh.) Basically, his main aim is for the most part to stop the fight or take away the other parties ability to continue rather than flat out kill his enemies... unless, of course, they fight for utopia (Which I will begin to get deeper into showing his eventual complete lack of restraint against their operatives in the future) or they directly and actively threaten the people he cares about, in which cases he will do whatever he feels most necessary first, and worry about any restraint second. And there's my long, long explanation, soldiers. -

Hm... for some reason, soldiers, I keep getting this nagging feeling that I need to revaluate how Anver's Thermo-Kinesis/ Manipulation actually works. I just keep feeling like the in depth explanation I gave a while ago honestly isn't up to par with how the physics should actually be; The reasoning and analysis isn't strong enough from how I see it now... I don't know, what do you think, Sergeant Flux, Everyone? I Personally think that I need o try again, but this time go much deeper to explain how it works... (and yes, I have an idea brewing for what I'm thinking of, and I've done some research for it) -
Good lord, the pace of PSS right now is just... I'm kinda bored.

for group B's stand point, yes. For Group A I'm pretty much waiting on... well, basically all of them.

Not to blame my players for the pace or anything, IRL stuff takes precedence over what goes on here, I understand and fully support that basic principle...
But a guy still can't help but get bored :/

[OOC/Sign-ups] Surge Story

When Attacking Dark: Always Super Effective: -Fairy (Because of their Photic Nature, the energy fields they generate will be able to counteract those of dark types, and also vica-versa. in a fight between the two, it'll be a complete powder keg.) -Ghost Generally Super Effective: -Fire (Fire always Generates a considerable amount of light, but it is going to need to be a high amount in order to overcome the aphotic field Dark Types Generate. IE, gonna need a lot of it.) -Electric (Same exact reasoning as Fire) Generally Not Effective: -Fighting (You can't easily hit what you can not first see/ locate with your eyes, now can you? but their will be some cases, like with a Lucario's aura sphere, in which this will be a very different story.) Always Not Effective: -Psychic -Ghost Immunities: -None When Dark Attacks: Always Super Effective: -Fairy (For reason stated above, they'll collide and both be highly destructive to the other.) -Psychic -Ghost -Grass Generally Super Effective: -None Generally Not Effective: -Fire (Reason stated above) -Electric (Reason stated above) Always Not Effective: -None Allright, there's the updated list for Dark, now I'm going to have to call this Final at this point, this type has beaten to death. Back to Dragons. Does anyone have a Type Match up chart they were thinking of, or should I myself draft up a sample one like I did with dark?- 1189 replies

High atop the Castle The servant looked down upon their handiwork, grinning wildly at the jagged spears of ice that now protruded from the broken earth, most certainly impaling Rossephus underneath them. He turned away from the ledge, their sigil upon their left hand still dying down from the reaction of Life Force and Ley Energy, known as "Magic". The air around still held the chill from their spell. "It is done, my lord!" they called triumphantly. A few moments passed without answer. The servant thought that their master had left until finally his voice broke through the darkness of the night. "Good. Now flee, servant. Thine work is this place is done. Go, I shall come to thee when the time is worthy." "As you wish, sire..." They held up their sigiled palm once again, focusing and again beginning the reaction. They began a slow, simple, humming chant, gazing deeply into their Sigil as it burned with light, visualizing the desired effect and holding it in their mind as they went on. "Black as night, grim as death. What this bird possesses is cunning, not great stealth. In it's pure image, I hereby remake thyself!" They repeated the verse twice. By the end of the first, veils of smoke had begun rising from their form. At the end of the Second they completely engulfed them. Finally it cleared now, bursting outward as if blown away by a powerful wind. Were the servant had stood moments before was now a large, ragged Raven, flapping it's pitch black wings and lifting off from the roof. A moment later it had taken flight completely and swooped off into the night, but not before allowing itself to drop a little, wanting to inspect it's previous handiwork with the ice... Everyone Octavia saw as a large raven swooped down from the darkness above, coming in low and circling above the plaza a few times, keeping eyes fixed on the ice that had killed the conqueror. Apparently satisfied with the situation, the bird let out an audible cry, seeming to laugh at the travelers with a series of course Ha's. After it's inspection was finished though, it wheeled around and flew up and off into the night, leaving the travelers standing there, only able to unknowingly watch as the very person who had just attacked now made off scott free. The silence that followed was broken by the door opening however, with several footfalls following after. If the party looked over they'd see quite a few familiar faces now gawking in surprise at the massive Ice standing at the end of the staircase. Namely those of Esmerelda and Gilwyn... but along with those two stood others, whom only Maximus and perhaps Ko'luki would've recognized. For it was none other than the Pope Eeree and his Arch Commanders. And they looked like they'd just gone through hell and back, but the same could also have easily been said for Esmerelda and Gilwyn. "What..." The Not-so-Holy-Anymore man turned away from the ice and looked right at the group. "What has happened here?" he demanded. "Where is Rossephus?"

Without a word to anyone else, Mareek plucked the piece of cloth out of the bush and began examining it. Nemo stood right by his side, meanwhile Erce and Java had both taken up positions in the air for the search. "So Slade was completely right then..." He thought to himself, turning the torn article of fabric over in his hand. After a moment more of his examination though, the boy handed the thing off to Tyron. "I think this is definitely from a Rocket uniform, sir..." then turning to his two flyers. "You two, land and start searching this area for anything else that might've been dropped." The Scyther and Porygon did as ordered, coming down and fanning out around the place, Erce going to work rummaging through various nearby bushes while Java set off with a more efficient method of simply using Lock-On to try to find anything out of the ordinary... ((Do they find anything else?)) -

"Agreed," Anver looked on as the storm gathered outside and a couple of bright flashes came in quick successions before stopping altogether. When it was done, he saw most of the intruders laying on the ground, motionless. Whatever had happened... it probably wasn't a good idea to go and look. "Aut Inveniam viam aut faciam," he said, turning back to Lux and the Barkeeper. "whoever just took out the whole crowd, they're likely to still be out there, and I'm not very eager to meet them." He looked around at the large room, his mind working furiously. finally it came to him. "We need to get to an outer room," he said quickly, hopping from behind the bar, making sure to snatch one of the bottles of vaporized scotch. "By outer, i mean a room that on at least one wall is not bordered by another room, IE, one that on the other side of is nothing but the Estate grounds." he looked specifically at the bartender. "If we can find one, which shouldn't be too hard considering that they'll likely have windows, then The two of us can freeze the wall in question solid and then break through it and get out of here undetected... or just break a window, whichever is needed. Of course, I assume you two do have some sort of transport planned for tonight, seeing as you obviously work for the same group and were both sent here. -

"What would it be?" Anver asked quickly, silently thanking that tiny nagging that had made him decide to talk to this man. "I was a CEO worthy of mention back before all this, made quite a few friends from working over the years... of course, given my situation recently, I don't have quite as many connections as I used to, but I still have enough scattered across the country and a couple overseas who are willing to associate with me... If you need something, anything, so long as it's legal, I can probably pull enough strings to get you it eventually." -

"When all this mess with the pillar started," Anver began. "I had to run for it, left my wife and my two girls behind, in order to protect them from... well, whatever was going on. I can't even remember how long ago it was, maybe a few months, maybe even a whole year But either way, I ran. About two days ago I found myself back in the New York area though, figured that while I was in the city again, I'd go try to check up on them. You know what I found?" he paused for a moment, eyes on the still growing crowd of intruders in the distance as he took another bottle of scotch and setting it on the counter beside the first one, the liquid in this one also mysteriously evaporated. "What I found was that no one was home," He continued. "And a man calling himself Alistir waiting for me in my own kitchen. He said he was from Utopia, that they'd taken my family and they would kill them unless I cooperated with their orders..." he turned his attention directly to the Bartender. "They wanted me to come to this party and eliminate you. Took me for a drive into the woods somewhere, left me in a hunter's cabin to wait till tonight. They even gave me a mission file all about you." he reached into the jacket of his tux and pulled out a few folded documents, putting them on the counter and sliding them over to the Barkeep; they were the very same Mission Intel Reports that bastard Alistair had handed him yesterday. "They said if I just did that, they would let my wife and kids go... and I was honestly intending to do it, to keep them safe, keep them alive. I even stayed up most of that night drafting plans and contingencies to do the work," He gave short, bitter chuckle next. "But look, here we stand now, and you're still alive. I couldn't bring myself to do it. My family's lives depended on this, on me being capable of pulling the trigger or starting the blaze when it came down to it... But I couldn't do it. I couldn't bring myself to become that man, so ruthless to protect that he blazes a blind path and only causes more and more destruction and ends up alienating those he's fighting for... a man that my wife would've looked at in disgust and my daughters in fear... I couldn't bring myself to become the type of man who she wouldn't know as her husband or they as their father." -
Damn, looks like I might've waited too long... are there still any slots left for the Evan Search Party?

"Well, what God gives, he doth taketh away just as quick," Anver said vaguely, standing up despite his own warning to Lux earlier to stay low. "Of course this was too good to be true, the sudden crowd, and then the kid asking around... " he jumped behind the counter of the bar, taking a bottle of scotch from it's place on one of the shelves. He turned it over and over in his hand, but no liquid sloshed inside... because he had heated it up to the point where it had Vaporized. He placed the thing down on the counter, looking at Lux and the Bar Keeper, a genuine look of regret on his face. He didn't know what he was doing right now, there had been nothing in any of his plans earlier about such nonsense. Why the hell hadn't he just popped one in the Barkeep and burned the kid? what the hell was he doing? The entire thing was probably botched now. No... he had a pretty quick answer to why he hadn't just killed them both... and strangely enough, it made sense to him, perfect sense. Because that's not something that the man the girls know their father as would do...and it's not something the man who married their mother would do either. "Look, nothing personal, you two... but I'm afraid I can't let you leave here," Well... the barkeep was still alive, he'd copped out at the last minute because of some vague sentimentality...he'd likely just signed three death warrants with his stupidity... but for some reason... he felt that he honestly should just tell these two men what was going on. It was strange, almost as if something in his soul was urging him on, telling him that so long as he was willing to fight for them, he shouldn't be so quick to think of his family as done for, that Utopia and all those who fought in their name should be fearing a day of retribution if they harmed a single hair on any of them. Might as well just tell the damn truth. Daddy's not a soldier, girls... he thought to himself absently. but he's about to become a wolf..."And I'll tell you both why... have you ever heard of a Group Called "Utopia"? They seem like a bunch of fucking terrorist from what I've been through so far..."
