Considering you're asking what to do after Aya, it'll be awhile til you get close to 7th Street. And, you need to go back under the Opal Bridge where the kids got kidnapped, I think. -

Like Rose said, it isn't possible. And to get ditto, you'll gain access to 7th street later on as you're not there yet. I believe if you go back to an old episode, you can get the Ditto at the factory puzzle and then breed the ditto with the male mudkip til you get a female one. also you're awesome for using my favorite starter. -

Kinda of.. with the implementation of field effects (haven't encountered them all yet) and the removal/movement of pokemon that used to be available in the beginning, it has gotten more interesting. Nevertheless, with the right team and assistance of others, this game won't be such an issue.. hopefully. I'll let others fill in on what I missed... which may be alot.

Hm.. I don't think there is a specific time you need to do it, but try during morning and day, if you can. Weather-related, it shouldn't matter, as far as I know. Keep trying, headbuttable pokemon take awhile to encounter.. but if you don't encounter any at all, something is wrong. Wait, which side of the forest are you headbutting trees? Left or Right? I think you can't encounter pokemon in the right side.. or it may be only for pokemon in the grass.
