thats cuz of the first two gyms being electric and grass.. also the fact that none of the gyms so far have a weakness to water.. its only good against the magma gang..

Water type is the worst early on, as you progress you'll need them, but the starters will largely be outclassed

Not to mention that some Water Pokemon have horrifically weak moves up until Surf/Waterfall is obtained (Neither of which we have.) So Pokemon like Feraligatr are stuck with Water Gun until lvl. 63 when you learn Aqua Tail, or if your breed for Hydro Pump, which only has 5 PP.
