I've looked at a small amount of the AM2R vs Samus Returns argument and... I'm just facepalming. Boycotting Nintendo even though you'd most likely love the games and you love the franchise? I know I'm an idiot some times, but that's simply stupid. Nintendo doesn't liek Fangames. that's no secret. Where Sega sees it as a chance, nintendo sees it as a threat. (low blow incoming) and who is still on top of the colsole market here? The reason they see it as a theat is simple: "why buy out full price game which you need our colsole for when you can play a free game like our own on your PC?". I can'd directly blame Nintendo for taking out Fangames. And now, my opinion on boycotting nintendo for their moves: you're all idiots if you do so. You "love" the franchise they own right (in this example, Metroid) and you'd want to see the franchise not only live on, but grow right? Then Not buying the game just because "Meh meh meh Nintendo did something to a fangame and then stole the idea of the fangame, I'm not gonna buy it meh meh meh" (if I seem insulting to this group, that is in this case the point as I fail to see the logic) won't show Nintendo not to kill fangames, no. it will show a decline in sales and let them know that people don't want Metroid as much as they did in the past, resulting in them not making games anymore. In that sense, Metroid Samus Returns acted as the Awakening to Metroid. Maybe not the best game in the franchise depending on who you ask, but a showcase that people still want Metroid games in the future. if Samus Returns simply doesn't apeal to you, then my statement here is not meant for you. Also, get this. A huge part of the people who will/would Boycot Samus Returns just because of Nintendo being Nintendo would later beg for a new Metroid game if Nintendo decided that, after bad sales, Metroid was a lost cause.

I get your points here, but I won't fully change my view on the situation. as much as the boycott will be able to reach Nintendo, what ensures they'll listen?
For the bad games being better than no games, I straight up disagree. firstly Samus Returns is already great (but that's not what I'm gonna go about) outside of some controversial point that I went over before. Secondly, I believe in the developers in a sense that even if the last games were bad (federation force and other M), they can still make something good out of the franchise.
As for Nintendo's behavior: I don't think it's good. I can't directly blame them as the logic for why they blow up fangames is logical from a business standpoint, but I do disagree with them. For the stealing of the idea, Nintendo was supposedly working on Samus Returns since 2015, before am2r released the 1.0 version. and considering Nintendo is kind of a king of remakes in certain ways, saying that they "stole" the idea is stupid IMO (as was probably obvious).
Granted, this is just how I think of it all. I'm probably really fucking wrong about a whole lot of what I said, but I stand by my main point: Don't boycott a franchise just because Nintendo did a bad. they will most likely make up for it with Prime 4 and (IMO) already did so with Samus Returns (which the creator of AM2R decided to specifically buy a 3ds for. he has no hard feelings, so why should we?)

Nintendo's wallet will. A boycott is an assault on Nintendo's wallet and that is the place they care about.
Second I feel you're saying to invest money in Nintendo now on the hope that the next time, they might do better. Am I wrong on this? But here is my reverse question: why would they? The devellopers might want to produce a good game but management, which controls the choice of devellopers, deadline, budget, ... , wants to make profit. If they don't feel the consequences of their actions why would they change? If they have your money now, they have what they want and don't see a reason to change their ways.
So as long as you invest money in a franchise just to protect it, you are doing a disservice to the franchise. You give a signal to management to continue what they are doing.
PS. Blog post about AM2R go even as far as 2013 and a demo was out in 2014 which is before development on samus returns. Comparing apples with apples please. -

Before you comment: don't say anything like "Yes, and if you disagree you're simply wrong". This will be an easygoing and fun discussion (hopefully) about the Rival's in the Pokémon franchise. specifically, the two main archetypes: Mean and Friendly. I've claimed that I believe Blue to be the worst rival in the franchise and I will stick by this. We've had 10 rivals by this time. two of which mean ones. One of these being an amazing and deep character, the other is a dick who's a dick for the sake of being a dick... so of those two we kinda have 50% of the mean rivals. friendly ones, however, we have 8. One friend who wants to help his/her father, a childhood friend who wants to go on an adventure with you and grow to be able to beat his father, a diversion between Truth and Ideals, a childhood friend who wants to take back a Pokémon stolen by Team Plasma from his sister, your Neightbour who wants to have a friendly competition while getting closer with you, and a new friend who wants to go on a fun adventure with you while growing enough to be able to beat his grandpa (remind you of someone?). Now, whether you like them or not, character wise you can easily see how much of an improvement even Bianca and May/Brandon are over Blue. So, if you ask me, no. Mean rivals are not better. Hell, outside of Silver I'd say we haven't had a really good one (which is literally what I just said). That's how I feel, but let me know how YOU feel about it
