  1. Regarding Rock Climb. I'm failing to see the correlation between that and Haxorus? It doesn't learn it naturally. I apologize if I'm missing something.
  2. Hmm. Access to high-tier Pokemon, while great, I'm still kind of disappointed with the list. Is there any news on new TMs available? Or items?
  3. 7-9 pages for an opinion essay seems rather...long. I'm not sure what they're trying to accomplish with making it that length. This just results in poorly written essays, in my humble opinion. Lots and lots of run-on sentences and unnecessary lengthening just to meet the criteria. I digress. Being Canadian and not a student of your current college/high school, I'm unsure of the resources you have your disposal. Your own school library, however, is often a wealth of knowledge depending on it's upkeep. There should be online resources through your school that let you search for peer-reviewed journals, articles, and books written on specific topics. In your case, it'd be more directed at political science. For example, my college uses www.proquest.com, and with it comes with a specific log-in your establishment has for its students. I'm unsure of what your establishment has, but I highly recommend you ask a teacher/professor regarding what online resources you're privy to. I couldn't even imagine the kind of thesis statement you're going to have to write for 7-9 pages. I mean, what format is this? APA or MLA? Is it at all possible to see the syllabus for your essay? Or is what you linked all you've been given?
  4. A fantastic series indeed. Rand is a very well written character. Which reminds me. I'd also recommend The Icewind Dale trilogy by R.A. Salvatore. It's very fantasy driven, but they're very easy to read and really capture your imagination.
  5. Late to reply to the quote, but it drew my eye. Professional wrestling seems to be going through a renaissance these days. People are looking over the fact that the outcomes are predetermined, yes, but the athleticism by the wrestlers is shocking. Looking at the whole sport subjectively, seeing these muscled human beings flying through the air as if gravity itself forgot about them is a spectacle to behold. http://i.imgur.com/ksCyJ8j.gifv
  6. If you haven't done so already, please check on the warranty. All OEM companies offer a one-year warranty on all of their products, and that includes a heatsink replacement as it's a mechanical fault on their product. The downside is that you'll need to send your machine away for approximately ten days, but you'll save yourself hundreds of dollars should it be under warranty. If your machine is not under OEM warranty, check your receipt from the place your purchased it from to see if you bought some in-house warranty. Vendors like Future Shop, Best Buy, etc. all offer warranties on major purchases. I can almost gurantee that you were offered one when you purchased your machine. Worst case scenario, if you're shit out of luck on the warranty front, purchase a heatsink and have it replaced on your motherboard with someone who knows how to properly apply the hardware. Heatsinks, aside from processors, are the biggest pain in the ass to replace, and do require some finesse to apply properly. The good is that your machine will be up and running within a few hours, but the bad is that you'll be paying out of pocket.
  7. "The pen is mightier than the sword...if the sword is very short, and the pen is very sharp." - Terry Pratchett, The Light Fantastic
  8. Based on your interests listed, a very highly recommend you ready "The Colour of Magic" by Terry Pratchett. This is the first book in a very long series of novels (41 if memory serves me correctly) in the Discworld series. If you're read and enjoy this book, you'll love the entire series as a whole. Other recommendations: "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy" - Douglas Adams - Very funny and satirical read. Watching the movie also helps puts faces to the names, though it's vastly inferior. "The God of Small Things" - Arundhati Roy - Great read, if not heartbreaking. It has some disturbing themes, but the book is very sobering. "The Dark Tower Series" - Stephen KIng. - He himself considers this his Magnum Opus. I suggest starting the series with it's first novel, "The Gunslinger", to see if the themes fit your motif. And of course, The Lord of the Rings series by J.R.R. Tolkien will always hold a special place in my heart. I make it my business to read those books at least once a year.
  9. Satisfaction comes with victory; people like to win. In one aspect or another, we've all got a competitive desire to achieve victory. It's an old instinct we've got that makes us more suitable mates. Whether it's sports, debates, or games, everybody wants to come out on top. Freudian ideology makes some interesting points here: Id is the part of the psyche, residing in the unconscious, that is the source of instinctive impulses, that seek satisfaction in accordance with the pleasure principle and are modified by the ego and superego before they are given overt expression. ego is the "I" or self of any person, a persons thinking, feeling and willing, and distinguishes itself from the selves of others. A part of the psyche, that experiences and reacts to the outside world, and thus mediates between primitive drives of the id and the demands of the social and physical environment. superego the part of the personality representing conscience formed early in life by internalizing standards of parents or other role models. These points are possible indicators why some people are very competitive, and when the competitive "high" is achieved, it's done when the subconscious part of ourselves is stronger than the conscious self. This doesn't excuse the sore winners, however. Gloating is obnoxious and is a telltale sign of someone that has little or no self control when the endorphin release from victory is achieved. Generally, when the pleasure part of the brain lights up, it's all they can focus on. Just some food for thought, I suppose.
  10. I've been rewatching the Tennant series of Doctor Who. Think this fits here.
  11. I have access to the room, for whatever it's worth. Aster will have returned Eclipse's body to her father, which gives you access to her small room. There's no dialouge between you and Eclipse, and her father believes she's asleep/comatose. There's not much to go on with the event, truthfully. It's good to know where Eclipse has been set. I've got my theories on how her body is going to be used later on, but we'll see how it plays out.
  12. “In the English language there are orphans and widows, but there is no word for the parents who lose a child.” My sincrerest condolences for you and your cousin's profound loss, Raviel. May you see better days soon.
  13. Are you familiar with how to replace a heat sink on a motherboard? If not, I strongly suggest you bring it to someone that can handle it professionally. Without proper application of thermotape onto the motherboard, you can brick the entire motherboard. How old is your machine? Is it still under warranty?
  14. That I completely agree with. Especially after Saphira and Charlotte's dialogue about never compromising to the enemies whim, then it gets thrown right out the window. When Blake grabs a hold of Heather Shelly and demands the ring, the fact we just give in and hand it to him was a bit unfortunate. I would've rathered him trying to take Shelly hostage, which would have made more sense, but instead we just handed it to him the moment the going got rough. Considering how important these artifacts are to the team itself, some exertion of force to protect it would've been a welcome sight. Alas, that wasn't the case.
  15. Fuck all that. In college, the consequences that come with that are dire. You'll get straight up kicked out of classes, and if the situation is serious enough, not be allowed to write tests. Exams are worth anywhere between 25-50% of your total grade. If I ever got a zero because someone dragged me down with them, I'm pretty sure I'd have a meltdown.
  16. Ahhh, happy endings. I'm happy to hear that. Slurping coffee every sip a person takes. Discuss.
  17. Gonna pop in here real quick, because I'm definitely detecting some miscommunication. She's using the term sarcastically. A lot of (weak) men will often describe themselves as the nicest, most respectful, most awesome dude on the planet if they thought for a moment it improved their chances of getting with the girl "of their dreams". When they're rejected, however, they often turn into a mysogynistic dickhead and devalue women with harsh criticism. The term for this is called Cognitive Dissonance, or "sour grapes". Meaning, in a nutshell, that it's easy to hate and despise something that you can't have. Have you ever heard of the fable "The Fox and the Grapes"? I suggest having a look at it just to fully illustrate my point. This isn't accurate. The term "friendzone" almost universally carries an implication that it's not a place to be. I've never personally heard the term 'friend-zone' where it didn't carry a negative tone. Being friends with people of the opposite sex is very possible, but describing that friendship as being friend-zoned implies you're holding out with sexual or romantic ulterior motives, and when the inevitable rejection occurs, you turn into the bitter and entitled douche because she didn't immedately drop to her knees in servitude. I'm not saying you're doing that personally, and I want to make that abundantly clear. The term 'friend-zone' does, however, carry that bitter and jaded connotation. You can thank the white knights of the internet for that one. This is inaccurate as well. Sexual attraction to those of the opposite sex is a very healthy and universally accepted as a necessary component to make any romantic relationship work. Many marriages and relationships have ended because of the loss of sexual interest in one party, or both. I fail to see how this correlation to rape exists, however. If you mean by friendship standards, then I agree to an extent. Statistically, rape is most likely to occur by someone the victim knows, and unfortunately, there have been a lot of instances where trust was utterly violated. Now, he didn't say that, and we're jumping to conclusions. He mentioned several times he carries the term (albeit incorrectly) in a different light than what you and I are familiar with. Though you may be using this as a blanket statement for anyone who uses the term 'friend-zone', it implies DTE uses it in this light as well. Based on what I've read, that's not the case. Fuck 'em. Seriously. If they get pissed off at you because you saw them as a friend and nothing more, and they end the friendship because of that, then everything you've known about that person has been a fabricated caricature of who they really are. They want to leave because you saw them as a friend and they felt entitled to more (because, you know, reasons), you tell them to go tenderly and passionately fuck themselves. Lord knows you won't. TL;DR? The friend-zone is, in fact, a lame and pathetic term coined by super awesome guys because women obviously can't think for themselves at all. Dobby, this doesn't have to be the way you describe relationships with people of the opposite sex. Just call it a friendship. Ghost, hopefully this can shine some light on what I believe to be DTE's point of view, but try not to make a blanket generalization based on miscommunication. Unrelated: DAE hate people that chew with their mouth open?
  18. Oh, almost certainly. If we had incapacitated them permanently, such as putting grunts into jail, or even the hospital with superficial wounds, that would have made it more or less impossible to deal with them repeatedly. It's just a question of the resources that we have at our disposal, and we've got a reinvigorated police force in the Jasper Ward just kind of standing around at the moment. We set it up, and they take the watch. The point I've made, however, is that many of the Meteor members should see a day in court. Many of the members who have left mentioned above would still face justice and a punishment after due process of the law. Assuming, of course, the Reborn region's laws are similar to that of ours. This is why I think Saphira's actions are inherently brutal and reckless. We know, for a fact, that several members of Team Meteor are either there against their will or unwilling to continue with the increasing pattern of violence. To simply kill them all, without habeus corpus or due process, strikes me as a judge/jury/executioner mentality, and brings us up (or down) to Lin's level of brutality. Just to clarify a few things you listed: 1.) Correct, but without the direct intervention of the player, Adrienn would still just be chillin' down in Citrae. Granted, we're definitely going to need more details on what sort of captivity xe was in, but to be removed from the world for that long indicates to me that xe was put there for a reason. That, and xe's utter contempt for the state of Reborn city shows xe must've been removed from that state of reality for quite some time. Very likely he was tricked into captivity. 2.) Well, Team Meteor's made it clear that they need the key items, which means they'll put effort into getting them. At least occasionally. I'm not sure if the player still posesses the Amethyst Pendant (forgive me, I forget), but we do for sure still posess the Ruby Ring. Both times the Ruby Ring was lost was either to distract Team Meteor from executing Aya, or a scripted event to save Heather's life. Not necessarily ineptitude but a response to the cirumstances laid by the enemy. 3.) Titania is an example of rising to the occasion based on actions from the protagonist. Titania consistently told Amaria to "not get involved" throughout the drama they experienced, but as we've seen in the development stages of her character, it looks as though she's (or they're) now going to be very much involved. What I mean by "rallied support from the Gym Leaders" was essentailly leaving them plum out of excuses from helping the situation in Labradorra by eliminating everything that diverted their attention. The whole Luna arc in the story warranted the distraction of three gym leaders, not including Shade and Adrienn peripherally. 4.) Ahh, I couldn't remember if ZEL was still there or not. At the very least, there's two thirds of regret within that persona, but it's heavily suggested that feeling of regret has been there since the persona's creation. Cal, however, was there long enough to be given information about other personnel, such as his knowledge of Terra. At the time of his leaving the team after the incident at Apophyll, I'll agree that he was already planning his exit strategy, but he still followed direct orders which contributed to the death of Kiki and her Medicham. Simon, initially, wished for Saphira's demise before becoming an apathetic waste in West Peridot. He wanted to retaliate against Saphira violently, which is exactly the kind of reaction's that's to be expected. If he had the means to act on those thoughts, like Saphira does with her dragons, it's likely he would have. Would he be jaded, bitter, and alone should we have incapacitated Tara instead of having her and dozens of other Meteor grunts killed? Also, I wanted to thank you for contributing to the conversation as much as you have. I enjoy putting thoughts I have to paper like this; I find it very cathartic.
  19. The protagonist, and the allies accumulated (excluding Saphira), have managed to do the following, without causing a casualty along the way: * Disrupt and neutralize five PULSE machines. * Liberate Ametrine City from Blake's (Meteor's) control * Free Heather and Adrienn from captivity * Free orphans from Sigmund Connal's orphanage, all of whom have proven to be bountiful allies. * Expose and neutralize Terra's corruption. * Maintain and control key pieces required by Team Meteor to accomplish their malevolent goals. * Rallied support from Gym Leaders to combat the dire situation in Labradorra by completing missions on their behalf. * Maintained and secured the safety of the Dark Gym Leader, Luna, from Bennett and Elias These are ones I can think of off the top of my head. Yes, Meteor members have been cycled back into the fold after their defeat. However, many repeat offenders have voluntarily either left the organization, or left on terms that would otherwise have them vindicated. This is seen through the regret and remorse shown by Cal, Eclipse, Aster, ZEL, and Simon, all of whom were ranked highly enough to be privy to sensitive information or tasked with carrying out missions under their command. Eclipse even attempted to tell the protagonist about the downward spiral Team Meteor's been in since Lin seized power before her unfortunate demise. This can serve as a stark reminder that not everybody in Team Meteor is inherently evil, but under the tyrannical rule of a deplorable sociopath concerned only about seizing power and dominating the region. After the events of PULSE Abra, Sirius fears this leader so much that he'd rather save the life of the protagonist rather than face the catastrophic fallout that would likely follow. It's very likely Lin has a very powerful and very threatening hold on many Meteor members. Take their former leader, Solaris, for example. Doesn't exactly strike you as the kind of person to tolerate usurping members, does he? Perhaps Solaris has a (figurative) gun to his head in the form of Taka, his son, and should he not carry out questionable and extreme orders, she'll horrifically end him. But I digress. To suggest that we haven't made a noticable impact against their end game would be inaccurate to say. Grunts have been returned to Meteor ranks and there have been casualties caused by Meteor personell, yes, but the achievements far outweigh the failures.
  20. Incapacitation? She's got the power to spare life given the opportunity, but seeing as though she'd sooner kill the enemy rather than show mercy shows her ruthlessness. Like I mentioned before, in order to combat the increasing hostility, it only makes sense that someone responds to that hostility in kind. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and all that. I just find that mentality discouraging. Look at the main protagonist, for example. They managed to find a way to make a tremendous impact against Team Meteor's ambitions on multiple occasions without spilling blood.
  21. Really depends on your mother's taste. I know a lot of mom's out there would just appreciate a phone call letting you know you're thinking about them. A nice dinner after she's done work would be fine. Lunch if she works nights.
  22. Found this both funny and oddly satisfying. Courtesy goes to Reddit for bringing it to my attention.
