  1. Is it purely RNG whether or not Illumise uses rain dance? Or can I manipulate it not to?

      thanks anyway

It's not impossible to win with the rain up tho - in my case I always let it set up rain.

There are several rock types iirc up to that point (I know geodude is under the grand stairway) and also flying types can do wonders when masquerain or araquanid are out to kill your rock or fire types.

E17 Shelly has Aquaranid? Ugh, I'm definitely starting a new run.

  2. Thinking of starting a new run, but I don't want to ditch a run at shelly again...

But on the other hand, I really want to try out E17.

  3. Shelly: I'm only happy when it rains~ ------ Titania: I did what I had to do. MC: You didn't have to do that. Literally nobody had to do that. ------ Titania: I need to stop saying "how am I going to kill my way out of this one" whenever I'm in trouble, at least out loud anyway. ------ Julia: I am so sorry you guys! We are actually a lot cooler than this! MC: Are you, actually? Julia: ... Julia: No Julia: No we are not
  4. Ditto on the Mareep, swap Vannilite for it until the ice cream cone evolves at least once. If you can make it learn Power Gem, it'll trounce the next gym, in addition to beating flyers. In addition, you're going to want a 6th to replace Zigzagoon, and Kriketune is at the end of its rope. By this point, its raw stats aren't going to be enough anymore. Some sort of anti-ground like a water type (which you can get by doing the daycare event, or the first team Magma gang event) or a grass type (of which there are many sprinkled around, such as Leavanny (found as Sewaddle) and Tangela/Tangrowth).
  5. What I try for is a mix of types, with a fire-water-grass set and a psychic/ghost-dark-fighting set, frequently mixing types to get both of these in as few mons as possible. For instance, in my current reborn run I have Blaziken as the fire/fighting and Shiftry covering grass and dark. Sometimes I'll sub grass for an electric type though. I also always include a Pokemon with thunder wave, spore, or stun spore, in order to catch Pokemon cheaper. In addition, I try to keep to a balance of physical and special, ever since a run of X where Iron Defense Torkoal threatened to stall out my whole team. Lastly, I'm always (in games as hard as reborn) building with an eye towards what that towards what my prospective recruit is going to kill. For instance, I'd never use Graveler under normal circumstances, but I know I can use him to tank one of Shade's Chandelure's attacks and KO with one its powerful ground or rock moves. On the other hand, I know I won't need a water or grass type before Shelly in Reborn, due to the prevalence of grass, electric, poison, and bug types early on, so I tend to leave those until later.
  6. Blaziken has excellent set-up-and-sweep potential, and Greninja doesn't get access to its best moves until much later. In addition, it's made of paper, and water is a stab type you really don't need early (though it can help at times). Reading through the field effect guide (either on this site or the one that IIRC comes in the download package) is something I'd really recommend. There's also a general walkthrough that's almost up to date in "on the hunt", that goes into more detail than I can here. Here are a few key moves to look out for: Mist and "terrain" moves: all of these are great when for blanket field-away. Watch out, though; for a few fields, Mist can make it into something *worse*. Users: Igglybuff, Mareep, others Discharge: changes "factory" and "blackout" fields into each other Users: Mareep, Elektrike Flame Burst/Eruption/a few others: can set fields on fire. Really key for a few fights, generally useful in almost any green area, like forests, gardens... Users: Numel, Growlithe, Pansear Earthquake/Magnitude/Bulldoze: use twice to make caves cave-in, fainting both Pokemon. Good for stuff like Caves, Crystal caves, dark crystal caves... Users: Graveler, Numel, Diggersby Other than that, the biggest strategy difference in Reborn is the need for a "rotation", extra mons you can sub into your team case a main team member is ineffective in a given battle. For instance, I'm currently training to beat Shelly, which I will do by setting her forest field on fire with flame Burst from Growlithe and moving on from there. So, my Klink (who really hates being on fire) is going to spend that fight in the box.
  7. I'm early in a run with Klink and Swoobat (grinding for Shelly RN) and I definitely agree. I haven't gotten a chance to use CM yet, but Klink very nearly solo'd Corey's Crobat on the poison mist field, even after it set up Nasty Plot, and even when it crit with Air Cutter. Charge is a godsend and Klink is a legend. Can't wait to get it strong enough to use Shift Gear, or evolve it into something with offensive stats worth mentioning. Edit: Also I'm not sure if I even need to mention Trubbish but Toxic Spikes on something vaguely bulky is amazing for the first two gyms. Quilladin with Pin missile also wrecked Rini.
  8. Honestly, I was expecting to get the MZR after the credits rolled. Reborn isn't about having all the S-tier mons and steamrolling your opponents, it's about making do with what you have. Think about it this way: in XY and ORAS, were you ever legitimately in danger of losing after you got the Mega ring? Z-Ring is somewhat more justifiable, but it's so strong vs. those single PULSE battles, who don't have the support Pokemon the SM trail bosses had. All of gen 6 was incredibly easy, as are most of the games if you play them optimally. You basically have to deny yourself access to different parts of the game to create challenge. Reborn lets you go all out and still have a chance at getting crushed.
  9. Please don't make Terra do a Tobi. We aren't ready for her to gain intangability powers, become the final boss, and then get upstaged twice to kickstart her redemption arc. We haven't even reached Sage Mode yet!
  10. I honestly don't know why Mechquest is so nostalgic to me. It's just a random, grindy ol' mecha rpg. But still....there's literally nothing else that uses mechas that appeals to me. It's all pvp shooters, either traditional like Titanfall or as glorified tank-battle games with purposefully clunky controls like Mechwarriors. MQ just has explosions, cool weapons/mechas, pve content, and lots of all three.

  11. Finally at Corey again...the first gym I ever lost to, every run he's a massive hump to get over. Plus, I finished the police quest before fighting Taka+ZEL, so I'll be going up against the gas field for the first time. Wish me luck!

Edit: victorious on the second try. Even critting with Nasty Plot and a 3 level advantage, Crobat couldn't break Klink once I started stacking Charge. I have a new and serious appreciation for this pokemon. Shame that I'll probably have to dump it now, since I'm planning to light Shelly on fire and when I get to Shade I'll have access to Magneton for a steel type. Oh well...

  12. And the mystery egg is........

    Togepi!

...I have no idea how I'm gonna salvage this one; unless my memory has failed me and we get a move reminder before we get done with Azurine Island, this thing has less of an offensive move pool and more a move *puddle*. It even conflicts with the Swoobat I'm already training...

    It's Noibat all over again.

just wait till it evolves. you have true evil in yours hands there. use it. embrace it

Thing is Togekiss is useless without certain moves. Which it only gets by move relearner. And Togetic's only good move by lvl up is Ancient Power. So, till he defeats Aya and enables Strength, Togekiss will be useless...

    3. doombotmecha

      doombotmecha

On the bright side, by the time I can actually use Togekiss, Swoobat will likely be so obselete that I'll need a new flyer anyway.

  13. Just spent 20+ minutes running around waiting for an egg only to find i'd put two female pokemon in the daycare T-T

    1. Raindrop Valkyrie

      Raindrop Valkyrie

      ...awkward. Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery awkward.

  14. ....that has to be the easiest Florina fight I've ever gotten. I finally had something to outspeed and OHKO Breloom, and Combusken beat Cradily+a super potion with just 8 hp to spare. Finally, I'm back on a roll!

  15. Man, Desolation's Early-game feels much easier than it used to be. Granted, this time I'm not trying to raise 6 pokemon before fighting Kukui, but I actually feel like I have a handle on things for once. There's also a bunch of wild pokemon added as well--I'm dead certain that Poliwag and Numel weren't obtainable this early.

It's also my first run where I have a legitimate strategy for Connor, instead of "take a fast fire starter and try and overpower him". Welp, wish me luck!

to be honest, it needed to be easier. not sure how many patches ago it was, but being forced to catch a bibarel to even stand a chance... playability and balance are more important that story. (Yes, I know that has been fixed in later versions. Doesn't mean that it's not a perfect example of how to do it wrong)

  16. Why did the cows return to the marijuana field?

    ...

It was the pot calling the cattle back.

I thought it was going to be "To graze it"

  17. Man, Pirates of the Carribean Online was absolutely the business back when I was a kid. I remember you could collect cards as loot, and then play poker or blackjack and try and sneak in the cards from your inventory to cheat the game.

  18. Most of the time, I try to go with a theme, naming mons after characters in a particular series, but otherwise... Blaziken is always "foghorn leg" after Foghorn Leghorn, Cartoon Rooster Garchomp is always Ryouko ever since it was pointed out to me that Mega Gar is an identical upgrade to the one Ryouko used to beat Gamagori. Magnezone tends to be ZEL, because Reborn spoilers lol Alolan Muk is "Billious Slick" after a frog in homestuck that was also a universe and also because it's based on an oil slick Ironically, Metagross is my favorite pokemon, but I've yet to come up with a nickname I really like. Maybe Wintermute, after the AI in Nueromancer?
  19. This BHB is soooooo dumb..........you basically need ranged horses to clear it. And by ranged horses I mean Reinhardt and Blyn.

  20. finally beat the lunatic Fury map. Reciprocal Aid  Arvis was key.

  21. why do I even bother to watch RWBY on wednesday? The subreddit doesn't even have a discussion thread up midweek. GDI not all of us have disposable income to get a show 3 days early.

What if I told you, that I know a link that allows you to watch the episode the Saturday it comes out

  22. I got pity-broken by an Eldigan, but I got Ayra four stones later! And she doesn't have terribad IVs!

With BK, Eldigan, Arden, Arvis, Ayra, and two or three Hinatas, I don't think I'll be pulling red for a while.

  23. Yup, that's exactly what I did. Thank you!
  24. I'm having an issue. I replaced the scripts file (kept the old elsewhere just in case), but when I open the game with the modded scripts.rxdata file I get an error where the game reports missing something related to "active mods".
  25. So far, I've used date manipulation, searching up to mid-january, but all I've found is one rainy/windy cycle and a bunch of clear and clear/rainy cycles. how often does the weather pattern change?
