As far as I know RPG Maker has controller support, but it won't work with Pokemon Essentials that is used for Reborn. You could always use a program which lets you map controller buttons to keyboard inputs though.

Most likely yes. Although I will also continue to beat the new episodes with my older save files.

Definitely digital if it concerns PC gaming. But for consoles and handhelds I strongly lean towards physical. Especially if it's a game I think is going to be really good or from a franchise I'm a fan of. And I'm still a sucker for cartridges.
