  1. Breath of the Wild had me until it decided "MOTION CONTROLSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!"

Me: No! You-- youuuuu are the reason why I hated the Nintendo Wii, aside from MANY other things wrong with the Wii that I hated.

There's never going to be an escape from shitty, unnecessary motion controls, is there? I still love Breath of the Wild, but I despise motion controls to no end.

P sure that one puzzle can be solved by just flipping the controller, or so I've heard.

The puzzle wasn't that bad, but just the fact they keep trying to shove motion controls down our throats is just annoying. And to Wolfox, the motion controls were terrible in Skyward Sword, in my opinion, and Twilight Princess is better played on the Gamecube. That's just my opinion.

While I personally don't care for them myself, It's one puzzle that I'm pretty sure can be completed even without it. That being said, personal opinions and all that.

  2. That's totally fine. I pushed back the due date to being the 12th, and having the judging date be on the 13th, due to school getting in my way of judging times. Also Spring Break will be right around the corner then, so that makes it easy for me and the others to judge.
  3. It's all good, no worries. I know how you feel, since school, this semester, has been intervening with my game development process and I am extremely far behind schedule, because of it. But, it's not too big of a deal since there will be another contest, sometime during the summer and next time there will be some new additions, in terms of prizes As an aside, I just feel like showing off this, because I feel it relevant to this contest topic XD
  4. What I think of the Switch so far:

What does it all mean, Basil?

  5. Wake up Link, wake up and... smell the ashes

  6. Apparently, on Metacritic, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is listed as the 2nd best video game of all time, just behind Ocarina of Time... wut. I researched this on the basis that Breath of the Wild was received so positively, and that it shares the 2nd place spot as well.

Don't get me wrong, I do like the Pro Skater series, but... REALLY?! It's considered the 2nd best video game of all time? I like the game series, but I don't like it THAT much!

You should download an N64 Emulator and try a few out. They're actually pretty good.

Personally, I hate video game journalism and always have, since as you mentioned - reviewers are biased. Here's some sacrilege for you, I don't like Ocarina of Time, but I use the reviews given on Metacritic as a basis to see just what the consensus says about the quality of games. It is purely subjective, and ultimately, at the end of the day, it's all dependent on how I feel about the games I play.

I still found it bizarre that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 is even in 2nd place to begin with. Not saying it's a bad game, but the fact it's there is mind boggling. There are much better games out there, that deserve 2nd place more.

Side note: Breath of the Wild is probably going to be my favorite Zelda Game, bar none.

@Dylanrockin I say you should embrace the subjectivity of reviews rather than condemn it. I never said reviews are bad, only that relying on scores is meaningless.

Read the reviews and what they're saying, find out why a game is fun and why it may appeal to someone like you. That is the true purpose of reviews which has been overshadowed by meaningless scores in recent times.

  7. What's Dylan's top 5 favorite anime?

    5. Dragon Ball (all of them, excluding GT, aside from GT's Soundtrack which is the best out of all of them, in my opinion.)

    4. Pokemon, again in general. For as nonsensical as it is, I do have a lot of nostalgia remembering all the times I'd watch Season 1 all the way to Season 10, and then picking back up with XY, which fulfilled my shipping quota.

    3. Yu Yu Hakusho, also known as Dragon Ball but better. Better characters, more interesting story arcs, and much more, well-paced fights.

    2. Attack on Titan, Holy. shit. is all I need to say.

    1. Cowboy Bebop. Do I need to say anything, besides this? This is my all-time favorite anime, and I love Toonami for broadcasting this at midnight, because that's when I learned how to fool my parents into believing I was actually asleep, but not really.

Shit, I had a second thought come to mind, and I totally forgot about Trigun!

Attack on Titan can gtfo 2nd place. Because that's where Trigun is going.

    2. seki108

      seki108

Gt > Super, fite me m8.....Sorry I had to.  Anyway good list.  I get another reminder to rewatch Trigun one of these days; I think the universe is telling me something.

      Don't forget the movies too!

  8. No, my friend on deviantART drew it for me. There's one for every town and city in the game. Also, here's some neat artwork drawn by another friend of mine, from deviantART XD This is the final battle, between Ascended Verdant Vice and Falset Neohart in his Arc Stone absorbed God Form. This is also where you unlock the Ascended Verdant Transformation, which as it looks gives Vice a more menacing and angry appearance. What happens before the final battle is ABSOLUTELY spoilers, and I won't say anything, but I will say that what happens is what causes Vice to ascend to a higher level of Verdant Transformation. The aura from around his body, changes from blue to red, and he gains two spectral whisps that orbit around his body. What those represent are also spoilers. I have already described what this form is, and it is shown on my deviantART Groups Page, for those of you who haven't already read about it. But, basically this form is what happens when Vice witnesses something that causes him to go over the edge in a fit of rage. The already serious and aggressive nature of the original Verdant Transformation is magnified many times, and the power of Vice's Eevee increases far beyond any Pokemon and Legendary Pokemon could have, by either mega evolution or some unique Transformation thereof. The abilities already present from Verdant Transformation are enhanced many times over, even allowing Vice to impart actions of his own if he wishes. Also, during this transformation Vice's clothes alter again slightly. His scarf disappears and his shoes change to appear more like Vaan's boots. Also, similarly to Falset Neohart, Vice attains a black underline, underneath his eyes, signifying the enhanced ruthless and rage-filled nature of this form. (However it is not shown in this, but will in a later edit, because I forgot to mention that to my friend XD) The explanation for the sudden change in aura, mostly due to heightened emotions, as well as the transformation making use of both Verdant Energy and Life Energy. What that basically means is - the transformation uses both the energy of the planet and energy of the human Trainer, which acts as a double-edged sword. It is far more powerful than any transformation, however it causes Vice to slowly use up his life energy, in return for more power.
  9. No, my game will not. It uses its own original systems programmed by me. I prefer to have my game be as original and far apart from reborn and any other game as possible.
  10. So, remember those location based title cards that I mentioned a few days ago? Well, here is a little update to that: Yes, I know the location sign post is cropped, but that's because this is the one map in the game where the maps are interlaced on a canvas and whenever you save near the border of the map, this graphical glitch occurs. It's nothing all that bad, but anyways... as you can see there is a stylized, very cartoony-esque title card that appears, upon your first visit to a certain town/city in the game, and there are is one for every city/town in the game. However, this, what you're seeing here, doesn't activate so awfully as it does, as this is just an example I threw up for the sake of this gif. These title cards appear only once, per playthrough, just like in the Tales Games. I would do some fancy animations with this, but I don't have the psd file for it, so really I cannot do much aside from a fade-in/fade-out.
  11. The whole Nindies thing doesn't seem all that appealing to me. It's gotten to the point that every Indie game has started blending together. I get it, indie developers don't want to spend too much money on their games, so they resort to pixel art. Well, now it's gotten to the point that there is a level of over-saturation of 2D, pixel art games that, for me, they start looking all the same to me.

They play differently, yes, but my brain has gotten all muddled the past 5 years, with this style and they all start to look the same.

I love pixel art, by the way, and I prefer it over 3D, in some cases, but indie games, I feel, need to start taking more risks with their investments, so the games don't all look and feel the same from a first glance.

    1. BIGJRA

      BIGJRA

      Totally see what you're saying

Like, Shovel Knight was fantastic and as some of these newer ones are trying to cut into the same pie, it just doesn't have that innovative-yet-classic feel anymore, you know?

      (terrible metaphor)

    2. Dylanrockin

      Dylanrockin

That's exactly how I feel. The novelty of it wore off, and it's starting to feel like, no one wants to innovate, be creative and try breaking some kind of mold. I love pixel art, I really do. When done right, it looks amazing, and I like it more than 3D. But, as a developer you need to find ways to make your game be appealing at a first glance, and show that you put a lot of effort into your investment, rather than slicing into someone else's pie.

    3. Maelstrom

      Maelstrom

Now you know my feels when indy games first started getting big. I grew up with the true classics and enjoyed gaming progress since then. So going back to that old megaman metroidvania stuff didn't work for me. I'm not a hipster. I'm just old and experienced.

  12. Just a reminder that there are only 10 days left of the contest! No rush to everyone who is still working on their art, but time is starting to run short.
  13. A friend of mine just passed away, in a car accident last night. And my teacher's are wondering where I'm at right now...

this may not mean much from a person on the internet, but my cinseerest condolences(I have a feeling al already made typo's) I have not been trough anything like this myself yet, only with a dog I had knows my whole lifebut the balance betwee friend and dog are unfair. I hope you feel better as soon as possible.

Here's a song that always helps me when I'm feeling down, and if you ever need to just let it all out and rant to someone, my PM box is always open :)

      Take care

  14. Yup, I made sure to do that! If you have a png version of the picture I can upload that one in it's full quality, since you sent me a jpg version.
  15. I can upload it on your behalf and credit you in the description, so that way people know it was yours and not mine.
  16. So, update on the game and stuff - I'll be doing, yet another Eventing livestream tonight, for those of you interested, and for those of you who are, do check the status posts tonight, as I'll be doing quite a long one, as to catch up on some progress. Also, in regards to the recent animation for the ending, here is a little update: (also this is totally wallpaper material XD) Side note: Why is Photobucket so freaking bugged? I click upload at the top of the screen and it signs me out, every time, and it pretends like it doesn't remember my sign in information. It's so weird. I'm sure you're wondering "this doesn't look like it will be very animated" well, this is only the first 10 seconds of the ending animation, and I'll be showing off the full extent to this at a later date. For now, though, enjoy the pretty colors XD Also, this ending is actually a reference to a certain anime that I tend to watch a lot of, so for those of you familiar with this aesthetic then you're free to say what it is it's referencing XD
  17. It looks excellent! Your entry has been added! If you have a deviantART and are willing to add it to the Symphonic-Horizon Groups Page gallery you are more than welcome, since it makes judging them way easier ^^ I like the choice of character that you chose! And yes, you did follow the rules, as I stated you can choose any of the characters in the gallery, as well as any of the costumes that they are in.
  18. So, I've got a little update for ya'll, and it has more to do with the 2nd Draw My OC Contest that I will hold at a later date. But, here is what I have in question - the Custom Wall Scrolls that were made by one of my friends for me. These are 2 Large Sized Wall Scrolls, and 1 Super Sized Wall Scroll that was made for my game. These were way larger than I was actually expecting when I was reading the dimensions for them, but no, they are really large XD Unfortunately I cannot hang them at the moment, since my walls are hardwood and concrete, which means I would have to use adhesive wall scroll hooks, in order to properly mount them. For the next art contest, I will be offering the Krista Harper and Hiro Monochroma Large wall scrolls as prizes for 1st Place, so that is something to look forward to ;D I'm sure someone's gonna say "Why do they look so weird?" That's because I have these laid out on a bed and they look wrinkled because of it, also my shitty camera on my Iphone 5S doesn't do it justice. But, you get the idea. If you wanna see them better looking, there is a video of me unboxing them. Also, lol you can see my messy bed XD I do have a video of me unboxing these, however that video is on my actual thread page, for those of you interested.
  19. Again, if you guys thought THAT was awesome. Just wait till you see the Custom Wall Scrolls that were made by one of my friends for me. For the next art contest, I will be offering the Krista Harper and Hiro Monochroma Large wall scrolls as prizes for 1st Place, so that is something to look forward to ;D Anywho, here is the video of me "unboxing" the stuff, and whatnot: Also, lol you can see my messy room XD
  20. For as much as I hate this game, the parodies of it are freaking hilarious:

    1. Godot

      Godot

To be fair the 3D Sonics range from meh to utter crap with their saving grace being their OST.

  21. Excellent! I'll add you to the list! Also excellent! It seems the sunset motif is quite popular lately O.o Looking forward to seeing what other people have in store for this!
  22. I'm probably the only nerd who occasionally watches NASA Television:

The recent press release has me excited.

  23. Also, a little animation update. For those of you curious as to how the anime stylized animations are going, I can show you all the rough sketches, but not the actualy animation since why would I spoil the awesomeness? What I do to start with is that I use the sketches to get a general idea for how I want the animation to look, start editing it the cells and then hand them over to my animator who takes it all from there. I basically direct how it all goes and use the sketches as a reference to help guide my animator. But, basically these are several sketches of the animation cells that are used for some of the animated cutscenes later on in the game, these are scenes from several different parts: Also, I am currently working on another animation project that is an anime ending sequence, and I just now started receiving the sketches for some of the cells:
