  1. I guess my main concern and problem with Sun and Moon (the games) is that it's a game that's trying way too hard to be something it's not. Sun and Moon are constantly in your face about character development, and story, but even still it falls flat in the end, because the only character that has any kind of development throughout the story is Lilie and Hau. But, honestly, Hau was so boring and generic that I couldn't care one bit about him.

And then it's story is just bonkers and all over the place, with horrendous pacing and questionable Trainers that... I don't know why they decided "Oh let's give all these Trainers have 1 Pokemon for the first 30% of the game, and increment them by 1 slowly", because that doesn't make leveling freaking annoying at all.

I mean, sure the story wasn't great, but it was probably better than most of the other main games (save for Black and White, which had a pretty good story.) There were certainly too many characters for its own good, most of which weren't memorable, but it was still better than "Hi I'm a gym leader you beat me goodbye forever." that we've endured for generations.

My biggest issue with Sun and Moon was that the game world felt like it was meant to host the player and nothing else. Despite having four islands, the cities were super small and filled with fake doors, there were almost no dungeons or cave systems, and there was only one evil hideout for you to go through.

And don't get me started with the pointless cameos. Who the hell thought we needed Grimsley in the game?

    3. Dylanrockin

      Dylanrockin

The story was a complete joke, at least pacing wise. And I hated the fake doors and the rule of thumb that I have with there being too much characters is this: you can never have too many characters, so long as you make them relevant and actually do something worth a damn and matches up with the length of the story. Because who wants to play a JRPG with a cast of collectively 15 characters that is 80 hours long? That's be too few, because normally there'd be about 35+ to accommodate that length. But for Sun and Moon all those other characters not matter at all. And you can make the rationale that it's a Pokémon game and they're like Gym Leaders, and serve to be McGuffin holders or whatever for the others. And that's true, but this game is trying to tout itself as a JRPG by going to some masquerade party and shouting "hey look at me, I'm a JRPG like the rest of you" and doesn't even do it very well. If it wasn't being so in your face and try-hard about its story and characters than I can excuse that. Like it's not even subtle.

Also fuck those stupid cameos. They just did that to make fans of those games go "Oooooooh this is AWESOME!" mostly the ignorant PokePlayers and people who don't know any better would find that to be cool and endearing to their characters . But it isn't, because THEY DO NOTHING! They do a thing and are never seen again. That's stupid and a complete waste of a cameo that could've lead to something cool like a side quest, but didn't.

  3. Well, the game is about 5GB in size, that's without the animations. The animations included make it 6GB+. That will most likely be going up, since I haven't finished a few of the new animations, yet.

  5. Things have been pretty slow lately, and that's pretty much to do with school intervening and me having Calculus 2 and Numerical Analysis in the same term, which sucks major peni'. But, I've been trying to sneak in some Dev. time, when I can, since I've been swamped as of late. But, as of late, I've just been fixing bugs that are presented to me by one of my testers, since that is pretty much the only time I have at the moment, unless I'm working on a weekend, which then I have plenty of time to make stuff for my game ^^ Also, for shits and giggles, here's a little something that I've been up to:

  10. Well, it has been awhile since I've gotten any serious eventing done, and I like to keep a steady pace, given the processes that I have to go through. Write > Map > event > script > event in-battle cutscenes (repeat). That process I feel is super slow on my own, and if I had infinite motivation and free-time, I probably would've been done with the game, by now XD Also, loads of bug-fixes, which drive me nuts ;w;
  11. It's been a bit since I last said anything, but rest assured I have been constantly working on my game. I've been busy lately with a musical that I'm involved in, for this interterm break, and it's been eating up a lot of my work time. However, I am nearly finished with Infinity Mine, and only need to set up the events and I am golden! The only thing is... these... minecarts are some of the most annoying things I've ever had to event, in my entire life. So much so that it takes me at least 1 day to finish maybe half of a single room's worth of events. This has to be the most annoying thing on the face of the planet.
  12. A Pokeplayer got mad at me because I denied him early access to my game. Not gonna say who, but this is only reinforcing my hatred for Pokeplayers even more, as well as their stupid and not-so-endearing name.

Entitled piece of garbage. You HONESTLY think I'm making my game for YOU?! You're having a fucking laugh! Go make ad-revenue off of someone else's game, and piss off.

      Yeah talk about entitled.

But seriously, I'm really glad that you're not doing any sort of open beta or  pre-release.

Those sorts of things can really screw over the game sometimes rather than improve it.

People should just go back to waiting for a game to be finished and then play it.

No more of this "early access" nonsense. Can't understand why anyone would want to play an unfinished game.

nuzlocke was just some way someone found to make the game harder.
there are sooo many other ways to make such a game hard.  the only thing u need is basic creativity.

    4. Dylanrockin

      Dylanrockin

Nuzlocking isn't in the game, because it would make the story not make any sense. I have the game on a rail for a reason, which is why you can't remove a character's lead Pokemon.

Pokeplayer: Oh Eevee fainted, let me just release it.

*In a cutscene later, when Eevee is alive and talking*

Pokeplayer: WTF?! I JUST GOT RID OF YOUR ASS!

      Now you see why?

Also, @Commander I agree, FE rules aren't necessary, which is why there are traditional difficulty options that... you know... do what they're supposed to do - enhance challenge.

@5hift early access = early ad-revenue for Let's Players, which = exposure for devs. which = money. I think Let's Players should be removed from this cycle entirely, since most of their idiotic commentary don't matter whatsoever.

  15. Even though I detest Gen 7 irrationally, what I thought was kind of creative and weird in Sun/Moon was the whole Lusamine fusing with UB-001. Freaking Jenova, man. That was pretty cool, but I don't want to see that pulled again in a later game.

  16. Well, either way, it's still annoying when that's all you get from comments/messages every day. Especially when there are those who just say how incompetent of a developer I am for not including it. So, I nearly lost all my data on my SSD, thanks to one of my storage drives being old and on its way out. Seriously, it caused my entire computer's boot time to go from 10 seconds to 10 minutes. The thing is though, my SSD is the only hard drive that has an operating system on it, and it is, sadly, Windows 10. So, what I don't understand is why one of my unused hard drives in my computer caused this to happen. I thought something was wrong with this particular drive, because whenever I put my computer in sleep mode, as of this week, it would disappear and wouldn't be visible until about I put it in sleep mode again and wake it back up. And it was only that one drive. It used to have Windows 7 on it, before I transferred it over to my awesome SSD, so maybe that was the reason? Either way, I had to perform surgery on my computer and excise the "tumor" from it. I basically removed the hard drive completely from my computer, and since it didn't have any important information on it, anyways, I just put it away until I can get an external enclosure for it. But, even then, that drive is so old I don't even trust it as a storage medium :'D I might end up buying a 4 TB External Enclosure sometime down the line, but for now, I'm content with my current 1TB storage drive that I've had for awhile now. It wouldn't be THAT big of a deal, since I have my game backed up on my flash drive, and another external enclosure that I just bought, so even if I did lose all my data due to what just happened, I still have regular backups every day on several different storage mediums.

  19. So, as you all know, Gen 7 is a great game, and we all love it. However, the one thing that has been getting my goat lately, are the emails that are sent to me and the comments that I have to read about is: "Is Gen 7 going to be in your game?!" "OMG you should include Gen 7 into your game, they are the best games!" "Your game isn't using Gen 7 Pokemon and abilities? Your game fucking sucks, forget this." "Please include Gen 7, and everything from it!" "Your game isn't using Gen 7 Pokemon, and therefor it is bad." You can see where this is starting to get annoying and irritating, yeah? I get it, people like Generation 7, and I do as well. They were great games, even though I hate Lilie to no end and Hau being absolutely forgettable, in that... I keep forgetting that he exists between each encounter with him. And that the game's pacing is absolute shite. But because of this negative response that my game has been receiving, for doing NOTHING wrong and not including Generation 7 for several reasons, such as: it wouldn't make any sense, it's too late, and simply put... I just don't have the time or want to include it. This has caused me to indirectly start hating Generation 7; just absolutely hate it, for all the wrong reasons, moreso than it deserves. This shouldn't bother me, except that Pokemon Fans believe that if a fan-game doesn't have the updated Pokemon, Abilities, etc, then it = a bad game. I don't even know where to begin with that, other than just sounding like they don't know anything about game design and the tedium that it encompasses. Because good god would including it all be not only a waste of my time, but pointless. Also it simply doesn't make sense for anything Gen 7 to be in this region, so, there ya go. Sorry for the rant, but I had to just get my opinion out there about this. To answer the question once and for all: No, there will NOT be Gen 7 in my game, region, or anywhere near where this game takes place. The only Gen 7 Pokemon is Dreyah's Alolan Ninetales, because at least for her backstory and where she's from, it at least makes sense uwu
  20. I've been kind of quiet the past couple weeks, as everyone is reluctant to find out, I'm sure But, that's mostly because I'm pretty much done, mechanically with the game. I've included everything that I've wanted to include, so far. Overlimit, Focus Meter, Character Unique Transformations, Dual Techs, Verdant Artes, and so on. There really isn't anything else that I want to share, in regards to the mechanics of the game, since... that's all done. Now all that's left is to iron out all the bugs, which... there are a lot of, admittedly. But, thankfully I don't have almost have a degree in programming for nothing At the moment, I am now finishing up all the Verdant Artes to make them as long, and flashy as possible. And to make sure people don't try and... well... turn off the animations for the Verdant Artes and Dual Techs, I made sure that whenever any variant of those unique moves are used, animations are turned on for that one attack. Mostly out of spite, but mostly because they're so cool and flashy and there was about... 48+ man-hours of animation and programming work that went into just ONE Verdant Arte, that I want people to see them. They're just that awesome, and special. You might say "Oh, well you don't have to program the animations, why are you doing it that way?" Because, Renegade Strike's slice down the screen was done by manipulating the battle scene via programming magic. I want to make this stuff look super cool, and super personal for each character. I don't want them to be like 10 frame animations that are just "Oh, look at all the 'not' effort that went into this attack, whoopie." I want them to be a spectacle - something that you all aren't used to seeing. The moves that I am currently working on are: Aura Storm - Allan's Lucario's Verdant Arte Time Leaping Aura Storm, which is basically a one-hit KO version, that has Lucario stop time for .1 seconds to quickly move in close for a point-blank Aura Storm blast. I was going to call Instant Aura Storm, but this is more accurate to Allan's repertoire of abilities that he acquires in the game. Time Leap is required for this to work, as well as being transformed. (It's a long name, but I like super long, and stupid names like that, so sue me XD) This is actually really easy to make, since I just need to add some extra frames and a little bit of magic and its done. Temporal Bind - Hiro's Dialga's Verdant Arte Celestial Advent - Hiro's One-hit KO attack with Dialga being in it's Ascended form that allows for it and Hiro to use 100% of their power. Stardust Breaker - Vice's Eevee's One-hitter Soul Strike - Vice's Verdant Arte Storm Shuriken - Greninja's Verdant Arte Twilight Rift - Marissa's Umbreon's Verdant Arte Almagest - Marissa's Umbreon's One-hit KO Verdant Arte Verdant Elysium - Krista's Verdant Arte I'm also now finished with the Frost Sanctuary, and I am actually quite pleased with it, to be honest. I've made use of many different puzzle mechanics, such as problem solving, navigation, and memorization, followed up with making use of certain characters' innate powers, to literally melting ice in order to progress. And since I am now finished with the Frost Sanctuary, I am now moving on to the Stone Sanctuary/Infinity Mine, which, by the way is this: Get ready for some high-stakes Minecart riding, along with Pineco bombs that can freaking EXPLODE on impact and destroy certain cave entrances. This mine is actually very long, and is probably the longest Sanctuary in the game. It's relatively close to the Frost Sanctuary, and has a pretty cool set of bosses to fight in it, along with some really cool uses of certain Character powers thrown in it to help spice things up, and keep you on your toes. Frost Sanctuary - Eclipse Horizon:
  21. I don't mind bad games. But, offensively boring games I do mind. A lot.

There is nothing more intolerable for me than playing something that is so drool-inducing that it makes me want to fall asleep. With bad games I can at least make fun of, and take the piss out of. But a boring game... I've got nothing, and I'm falling asleep at the wheel not caring.

  23. Nintendo Switch: My Thoughts

So, as of tonight there was a pretty extensive look at the Nintendo Switch and its features. A lot of the functionality and technical aspects of it are very impressive. Even a lot of the games had me pretty amazed at what it could do, especially that Overwatch Boxing game. I know it's not Overwatch, but I can't help but look at it that way.

The games presented were extremely breathtaking and awesome, especially Splatoon 2, which should've been named Spla2oon, which is a missed opportunity but I digress. Fire Emblem Warriors, because I love me some Fire Emblem. If they don't have Mia playable in that game... I'M GOING TO BE VERY ANGRY!!! The new Mario game looks awesome, and I never thought I'd say that about a Mario game, since the only ones I care about are the Mario RPG's, Paper Mario, and Sunshine, so you can tell I am pretty excited for it. However, I think the game that caught most people's eyes, including mine was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Voice acting, and anime... ALL THE ANIME! That game has become extremely anime, and I like it.

Overall, I'm extremely looking forward to the Nintendo Switch and all that it has to offer. I may actually end up throwing a lot of my money at that console, which is something that I haven't done in a long time! Also... Xenoverse 2 for Switch, confirmed! Because you all know me - I like my Dragon Ball XD

  24. So, if anyone has been curious as to why I haven't posted a whole lot of much as of lately, is mostly because of school slowly coming back into play. Well, interterm, but still. As well as a slight lack of motivation. Dunno why, but the past couple weeks I've just been relaxing instead of working on my game, which is both a good and a bad thing. Good in that I can gain back my motivation and drive slowly. Bad, in that less work gets accomplished. But, as of today I have finished mapping the Frost Sanctuary, and I am now currently working on the puzzles involving it. The puzzles will utilize Krista's Super Sensing abilities, which is basically and upgraded version of her regular Sensing ability, as well as Hiro's Time Reversion and Matter Manipulation. At this point in the game is where the puzzles start to ramp up in difficulty and will require you to use all 6 of the characters in the game and their overworld abilities. Also, the sanctuary functions on certain mirror's giving off reflections to areas that are normally obscured or hard to locate and will hint at where to go to solve the puzzle. I.E. revealing a secret passageway, etc. After the Frost Sanctuary has been completed is when I will start working on the Infinity Mine/Stone Sanctuary, to give it its secondary name. Which functions on minecart riding. Fun stuff, yeah? Prepare to be surprised. And just as a reminder, for those of you that care, there will be a "Draw my OC/Characters" Contest being held, 1 month from now. There will be cash prizes for the top 3, and for everyone else will just be a cameo placement somewhere in the game, so that way you guys don't feel left out with nothing ;D I wish I could give everyone money, but that's just how contests go, I'm afraid. Also, the judging will be completely unbiased, as there will be 2 other anonymous judges who you all wouldn't know of anyways and they wouldn't know you, which makes it so that way I don't get bias when reviewing another person's work and judging it. The link to the thread is here: GO NAOW!
  25. I Feel Like a Bad Video Game Dad I hope I'm not the only one who thinks of themselves like a "father" or "mother" of their own characters. Because, in a weird way... I do. Like, I enjoy doing what I can to make artwork of them in bizarre and oftentimes humorous situations that show off their personalities and their interests. Or getting them new clothes that look fashionable, or what a dad THINKS is fashionable and just forces them to use. (No one else had that dad? Just me? Okay XD" Like, in the Christmas photo and how Marissa is playing the Piano while singing. It's times like that, that I can't help but feel like a dad, because I want what's best for my characters, while at the same time making them play their roles. All of these characters that I created myself, I gave them personalities and lives of their own, and yet... I've never drawn them myself OTL I'm ashamed to call myself the father of all these characters, and that I've never once decided that I would draw them ;w; I've gotta fix that at some point in the future, when I have more free time from working on the game. The thing is with me... I'm not terrible at drawing, it's just that I lack the drive to draw. It's also very hard for me to get into, because I wouldn't know where to start and what programs to use or even HOW to use them. Sure I've used Photoshop from time to time, but that was to make gifs and whatnot. A lot of the mumbo-jumbo on Photoshop always makes me go and think to myself like "People memorize what all this does O.O" I guess artists can probably say the same thing about people who use RPG Maker at a first glance and be like "you people know how to use this shiz? I can hardly figure out any of the hotkeys!" In short: I feel like what I've done for my characters is great and all, but it would be much better if I ended up doing something for them, from me, for once. With my own hands, than just giving them a world to act out in, and play the role that I gave them. It's weird that I have this kind of mentality, but in a weird way I kind of feel like that XD I'm sure on some weird level, someone has probably felt that way, and I'm not the only one
