I have to say that I love the battle system of Pokemon Reloaded despite how lackluster the game is in other areas. I've been toying with the idea of starting to develop a Pokemon fangame for a while and one of the main things I would want it to have is a new battle system more dynamic and intense, even though not exactly like the one from Pokemon Reloaded, something more rhythm-based with new uses for abilities like analytic or own tempo and maybe attack combos and damage modifiers depending on base accuracy of the move + accuracy of the execution of the move, new mechanics for entry hazards... Maybe it's a bit too ambitious, I should start thinking and researching more into how to make it work instead of dreaming about how cool it would be.
Such a dynamic battle system would make double battles really hard/impossible, tho.
