  1. It seems obvious that we have quite different views on what doing nothing means. If I were at the precipice to a waterfall or at the top of the mountain and spent and hour just gazing into the world, I wouldn't consider that doing nothing, since I'd be gaining a valuable experience in the process, therefore by definition having done something. To me, doing nothing is synonymous with doing nothing of value, and if you gain something of value through inaction or relaxation, I don't see it one having done nothing. So if I were to tweak my definition of doing nothing to include things such a meditation, relaxation with the purpose of regaining one's focus and being able to perform better in the future, then those activities have suddenly gained a beneficial component and become worthwhile doing. But doing nothing purposefully is difficult, and I admire Indian culture where it's become both an art form and norm through Buddhist/Hindu practices. Working with one's mind and honing one's focus is certainly an admirable thing. But perhaps due to a lack of education in this regards or the values of Western society, I know of very few people who can use meditation and relaxation as the productivity enhancer you describe them to be. To many relaxations is an end instead of the means. People work to be able to relax, rather than relax to be able to work better. And all too often relaxing can be an escape from stress and responsibility, at which point relaxation has becomes an exercise of sloth and laziness. As with every other action, doing nothing can be both good and bad depending on how you do it, and for which purposes. It is certainly a more complex matter than I initially believed. Are the ideals of conscious relaxation through meditation and yoga in India as ubiquitous as you seem to be making them out to be? (and how are such ideals put into practice?) (In case Divergent gets the questions, does any of this resonate with you, and how are such practices used in Philippine culture?)
  2. The story seems interesting, and it's obvious that you've thought things through, albeit the references to Avatar may be a bit excessive. Like HongaarseBeer said, proofreading is important before posting anything. Microsoft Word has a built-in spellcheck, but alternatively, Google Docs or OpenOffice which are free also include this feature. Now onto the story. I had a few gripes with how the main character acted. The story described how he was trained by birth to succeed his father, and his father had incredible confidence in him. Despite all that the prince seemed incredibly unprepared and unknowledgeable about the world and the test before him. He had to be told in exposition key facts that he should already have known. For one who supposedly had all the tools to properly judge the prisoner, he didn't seem to be very smart as he passed his judgement arbitrarily. In addition, I didn't quite understand why he seemed to be so rebellious and against his father's ideals. He was against the war, gave a lenient sentence to the prisoner, committed mutiny before even arriving at the battlefield and was very friendly with the Ice Tribe princess who was supposedly his nation's sworn enemy. It was as if he wasn't educated to hate the Ice tribe like his father at all. He also seemed really spoiled, always asking for his friends and despising the military despite being trained from birth to succeed a militarist nation. He ought to have been trained as a soldier and arbiter, skills he obviously didn't possess. Be careful with saying a character has specific skills and abilities, that are nonexistent in practice. Anyway, there are lots of things to work on. But I see the potential for a fun and interesting story there. As you write more and more you will definitely improve, so good luck with your future literary aspirations.
  3. Our time on Earth is limited, and therefore we have to make a conscious choice in regards to what we spend said time on. If one decides to spend their precious time doing nothing, that is their choice but personally, I find it an abominable idea. Continually improving yourself, and contributing to the well-being of others is both a worthwhile and fulfilling endeavour. And no matter how tempting it may be to do nothing, it only provides short term happiness and doesn't help you achieve your goals or be productive in any way. It is difficult to ceaselessly challenge and improve yourself but in the end, it is something we should all strive towards. So yes, squandering ones own potential and succumbing to laziness is indeed a bad idea. Naturally strategically doing nothing for short burst of time, like when sleeping, is important to help you focus. But doing nothing with no purpose in mind is indeed a worthless action. In Scandinavia there is a collective idea that is widely considered a sort of national philosophy, that one shouldn't talk about personal success, achievement or claim to be better than someone else, even if this is the case. As someone with an outside perspective, do you believe such a pattern of group behaviour is healthy to a society?
  4. While 200 series may seem like a lot, it's only around 2000 hours of watchtime, or approximately 40 minutes of watch time a day for the past ten years. I don't keep track of things I've dropped. I love anime, games, books. And if I don't enjoy something, I don't hesitate in dropping it. You're right in this regard, as there are too many good and interesting thing out there to bother with the mediocre. I would say 80% of all things I watch, is time well spent. A higher percentage than games I've played. And could you please explain your question once more. I don't exaclty understand the question in this point Do you say that I have low standards for what I play to completion? Or something else entirely?
  5. Are you asking me to interpret Divergent's question? If so, I think he was asking whether there is an objective underlying purpose to the existence of life, or more specifically whether humans exist for a specific purpose outside of perpetuating their existence. So yes, I think you understood the gist of his question. Does it bother you that man is merely an organised sack of muscle, bone, nerves and blood vessels?
  6. @Godot I think it's awesome that you've played so many games, and if you can find enjoyment from so much stuff, then that's all the better. People enjoy things differently, and that's something to be embraced and cherished.
  7. I've personally been very happy with my Toxic/Recover/Protect/Moonblast Sylveon. That thing has punched its way through so many battles. Though you do need to go back to previous episodes to breed for TM's. Though that's not too difficult since Lugruf has the files for previous episodes.
  8. From what I've been able to gather, it's a system where the government directly funds political parties to campaign, while making it illegal to take anonymous donations in the vein of what's done in the US. Without knowing much about how this system is setup, or even which countries are running this policy, it sounds like a great idea. Political parties should be able to represent the will of the people, and not be influenced corporate entities indirectly bribing them. I can definitely see this as a viable option to reduce corruption in a democracy. Though while in theory this sounds like a good idea, I can see many things hampering the execution of such a system, and the many legal challenges that present themselves by introducing such a policy... So I guess my answer is maybe? Should politics be discussed on a Pokémon Forum?
  9. What a shame, Cthulhu is such a nice little sea creature, waiting for the stars to align so that he can destroy our world I presume you mean to redo a certain event? No, there are no events that have impacted my life in a major negative way that I would need to redo them. Do you find spending time on these forums to be a worthwhile endeavour? (If so, why)
  10. (Previous comment referred to Alfred Noyes ) No, I don't like potatoes, I love them. Are you happy with your current username?

  12. Pretty much when you're about to post a comment, and someone else does it just before you're ready to post yourself, forcing you to rewrite the comment. And yes, going into the future and getting some futuristic gadgets a Galaxy Note 31, perhaps a GPU from decades into the future... And perhaps a quantum computer that's portable Can you provide me with part of the name of the famous British poet, who was born in 1880, and whose first name was Alfred? (Nobody will probably get this reference)
  13. No. I quite like where I live now, and don't see much purpose to live elsewere. Are people purposefully ninja'ing me? (it's been done 2 times while writting this post)
  14. I've been gaming since I was 7... So I've had a lot of time to play them, and considering I play daily for 1-2 hours and sometimes more on the weekends, I often complete a few larger games a month and also some smaller ones. I also actively go out of my way to try new games, which is why I've played so many different genres.
  15. I think it's more about my standards for what I consider to be a favorite being too high. I've watched around 200 animes, and consider 2 to be all time favorites. I've read +500 books and likewise consider only 3 to by all time favorites. I've read +40 mangas and only consider 1 to be truly great. And after having played the majority of the Final Fantasy series, all of Fire Emblem, Kingdom Hearts, Valkyria Chronicles, Pokémon, Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton series, Xenoblade, several LoZ games, Persona/Shin Megami Tensei, and Tales of games. And the majority of NES, SNES, GBA, PS2 classics + most other worthwhile Nintendo games. In additional to playing hundreds of hours of online games such as League of Legends, Starcraft, World of Warcraft and ton of other obscure things from my collection of 300'ish Steam games. Out of all the game series mentioned in this thread, I've completed all but 6 currently mentioned (mostly the PS3 games mentioned by Godot) So I'll let you decide whether I haven't played very many games. If we were to talk about standout games which I consider good, and found to be enjoyable to play through, I can mention dozens. But not something I consider favorites. Since my definition of a favorite is something that has impacted me, my way of thinking in a major way.
  16. Yes (Just finished Gundam 00 yesterday, great show) Could you give me an example of a one syllable word?
  17. I think that if every game you play is amazing and your favorite, I think the issue is that your standards of "great" are too low and should be raised. You even said it yourself, among the series you enjoy, there are some stand-out games better than others.
  18. I love the fact that people chose their favorites based on so widely different criteria, some do it based on the communities they joined and people they met in the game, some based on how much it impacted them emotionally while others solely look at how much fun and entertainment they got from the game.
  19. Video games, those time-sucking vampires which has brought together this whole community of people. And considering how many different genres and types of games there are, and the widely different times and ways people on here got into gaming, it shouldn't come as a surprise that most people on here probably have different games that have impacted them the most, and have become their favorites. As someone who doesn't have one single video game which I believe to have impacted me in such a way that I define it as inherently better than any other game I've played, I'd love to hear which games people on here perceive to their favorite, and how it came to be the their favorite.
  20. Is the point of this thread to replace people creating independent threads looking for battles, or merely meant to be an alternative?
  21. For future reference, a thread was created to find people to battle over here
  22. There is a severe lack of ice types in that list. I had expected Articuno, Sandslash and Froslass to be on there.
  23. It seems my favorites are either majestic legendaries, or cute balls of fluff 10: Armaldo 9: Celebi 8: Meganium 7: Togekiss 6: Ampharos 5: Zoroark 4: Anorith 3: Suicune 2: Chickorita 1: Zorua
