Pokemon Abilities are essentially "labelled" #1, 2, or 3 (for Hidden Abilities). In Reborn (and Rejuv) Ability Capsules just cycle the ability to the next one in the cycle, so 1 -> 2, 2 -> 3, 3 -> 1.

Magnetons #1 Ability is Magnet Pull, and its #3 Ability is Analytic, so you will have to use 2 Ability Capsules on it if you want Sturdy, because Sturdy is its #2 Ability.

    Gottcha! Thanks for the info!

  2. So I understand Ability Capsules are able to change a Pokémon's Ability with ease, but I've got a question:

How is it determined what the new Ability will be after using a capsule? I'm wanting to give my Arcanine "Intimidate" instead of "Justified". Is it a random chance as to what the new ability will be, or is it already pre-determined somehow? I wasn't sure if it was something I could soft-reset to get what I'd like or not. I ask because when I tried to change my Magneton's "Analytic" to "Sturdy", it always and only seemed to want to change to "Magnet Pull" no matter how many times I soft-reset the game. Not sure if it was pre-determined or if I was just unlucky.

Thanks for any and all help as always folks!

But for the most part the majority of pokemon personalities are only slightly determined by their species

I completely agree. I just used Magnezone as an example due to the fact that it has very few features that can broadcast it's mood or personality outwardly. It's hard for me to impose too much personality on it simply because it's basically a machine. Not to say it can't have character, it's just harder to imagine; at least for me.

Always. Sometimes I go into roleplay forums or write stories based on them. Some species I can only have specific genders or natures of, or can't evolve, because of the attachment. It's quite strong.

I completely understand the attachment. I've never tried any sort of roleplay forum before. I tried my hand at writing a short story about my Growlithe on these forums about two weeks ago, but that's been about the extent of me outwardly projecting my head-cannon for my mons, haha. It's really interesting for me to read others' stories though! Here was the story if interested:

  5. Kind of an odd title, but let me elaborate:

I've been playing Pokémon for many, many, years now, and one thing that's always stayed the same since I was a kid is that I can't help but imagine that my Pokémon have personalities. I'm almost 30, and I still find myself daydreaming about my cool battles my Pokémon had in Reborn and in the cannon games. So this inevitably leads to me becoming attached to my mons, and sort of imposing a personality on them.

For example: my (now) Arcanine that I received from the Police Quest in Jasper Ward. I sort of see her has a loner, but with an almost militaristic air about her. This comes from her Nature, (lonely) and the fact that she was part of the Police force. It's fun to imagine the scenario of my MC basically adopting her after her trainer was killed, and now she's with me to seek some sort of retribution, getting stronger in the process and helping to keep my other Pokémon in line.

I do this type of thing to most of my mons. It helps me connect with the game on a certain level I guess. It also makes it terribly hard to "optimize" my team, because I become attached the my Pokémon, who have basically become characters in their own rights to me. Reborn makes this even easier with all of it's Event Pokémon. Their various scenarios make it easy for me to imagine what sort of story or personality that Pokémon might have.

What about you guys and gals? Do any of you tend to imagine personalities or some sort of head-cannon for your Pokémon? I'd love to hear some examples!

Feel free to share your own stories!

Nidoqueen would not be bad, but on the one hand I prefer more Starmie because you should face the next gym for good because it is Poison, I hope you have good Psycho moves to face the best pokémon like Toxapex. Starmie should be able to face Salazzle without any problem, which hurts you, and matches it all with Gothitelle for an assured victory. If you can, put Chesnaught back because I like the fact that the teams have the combination FWG (Fire, Water, Grass)

Gottcha! Who would you suggest swapping in Starmie with?

what do you mean you missed the move relearner?

you'll soon get access to it so you don't really need to replace it if you don't want

oh and i think your team is pretty good and I'm not sure if you want it but you can get access to ralts soon so you can replace your gothitelle with it

Thanks! I like Gothitelle, but I wouldn't mind replacing/upgrading her if I could find Ralts. As for the move relearner, I just missed my opportunity before the gym. Evidently if I'd found her key before Cain smashed the Railnet, it could already have access to her. So for now I'm locked from her until I get Strength after this gym.

  8. So after asking for some help yesterday with my team against Cain, I'm back to show off the new and improved gang.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Chesnaught: Level 43 (Bulletproof)

    - Seed Bomb

    - Spikey Shield

    - Bite

    - Rock Smash

    Flygon: Level 43 (Levitate)

    - Crunch

    - Earthquake

    - Rock Slide

    - Dragon Claw

    Magneton: Level 43 (Analytic)

    - Discharge

    - Flash Cannon

    - Screech

    - Tri Attack

    Gothitelle: Level 42 (Competitive)

    - Psychic

    - Feint Attack

    - Charge Beam

    - Future Sight

    Arcanine: Level 43 (Justified)

    - Flamethrower

    - Close Combat

    - Crunch

    - Outrage

    Seismatoad: Level 41 (Poison Touch)

    - Muddy Water

    - Uproar

    - Mud Shot

    - Aqua Ring

     ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I took a lot of the advice I got on here to heart. Spent some time back in the old Volcano and trained everyone. Got some evolutions, got some new moves, did some member swapping, and now I feel like we're in a pretty good place. I was able to beat Cain and now we're off to the Wasteland to take down his Gym Leader Sister!

My one complaint is that I'm unable to access the Move Relearner at this point since I missed it earlier. Due to this, Chesnaught is lacking behind quite a bit. Really if it can't be 'Seed Bomb-ed', then Chester doesn't really make an appearance.

I was curious what could be a good swap-in for Chesnaught? I've got a level 42 Nidoqueen currently that I'm considering using. Some other notables are Starmie and Darmanitan.

Thanks for all the continued help folks!

There are move tutors and a move relearner in Reborn. The move relearner you need to find a house key for (she's up in Onyx Ward, left from the Casino) and she'll teach your Pokemon old moves in exchange for a heart scale. She's standing outside her (big) house with the sign on the right of it. If you can unlock her at the stage you're at (I can't remember if you can) you could get some good moves for Chesnaught.

Wow! I never could find that lady's key! I never knew what her deal was. I'll see if I can get it soon.

There are a couple of move tutors, don't bother with it though as they all teach garbage before the city restauration (then you get some nice moves like Hyper Voice for Sylveon/Gardevoir).

If you can get a strong psychic type you basically oneshot everything but his dark type with psychic. Espeon by wonder trade for example. Alternatively, Gothitelle (just 3 more levels) with an X-Speed should do the trick too, even if it's a rather poor poke. You should also really get a Fire Stone for Growlithe.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. I actually have a couple Fire Stones at this point. I'm just waiting for her to hit 45 for Flare Blitz before evolving!

I think u just need to grind seismatoad to level 42/3 (in the hall there r trainers u can fight how many times u want). Maybe train Vibrava too. His team has 3 pokemons weak to ground so with seismatoad and vibrava should get easier. Magnezone alone should be enought to defeat Primarina, whole for Meowstick try use Growlite + grandbull. (I suggest u to find fire stone asap, maybe if u have still a rock where use the mining kit, softreset untill u can find one)

Thanks! I'll do that. Luckily I've got a fire stone ready. Just waiting for Growlithe to get to 45! Also really need to level my Granbull enough to get Play Rough!

For a while there I thought you just had a level four Chesnaught

Would suggest you grind your Pokemon up to even levels so you're not tackling him at a slant. You have an eight level difference between your highest and lowest team member. Those levels can be the difference between one of you taking a hit or going down.

I know! I hit buttons too quickly and posted before I really even began to write!

Thanks! I'll do that for sure. I really need to get Gothorita and Growlithe evolved for sure. Now I've just got to figure out where to grind! I should have used my time with Victoria double-battling with me in the volcano more wisely. And of course the trainers in the Grand Hall are too strong now. So I'm on a grinding-spot hunt!

Very nice collection, in any case.  You even have a random Omnimon thrown in

Thanks haha. These are adding to a collection that already far exceeds it's shelf-space, so it looks like I'll be building a new shelf or bookcase this weekend for these new ones!  Yup! I'm stoked to have found the Omnimon. It was the last one they had. I'd never seen it in person before actually! I figured I couldn't pass up a Digimon/Gundam crossover!

  14. So I've hit a small wall again! Could really use some help. Cain is blocking my path to the Bysbysion Wasteland and I can't seem to take him down. I checked the walkthrough but didn't really see any kind of strategy for him. The current team is:

    Chesnaught: Level 43 (Bulletproof)

    - Seed Bomb

    - Spikey Shield

    - Bite

    - Rock Smash

    Granbull: Level 39 (Intimidate)

    - Bite

    - Headbutt

    - Rock Smash

    - Heal Bell

    Magneton: Level 44 (Analytic)

    - Discharge

    - Flash Cannon

    - Screech

    - Mirror Shot

    Gothorita: Level 39 (Competitive)

    - Psychic

    - Feint Attack

    - Charge Beam

    - Future Sight

    Growlithe: Level 40 (Justified)

    - Flamethrower

    - Close Combat

    - Crunch

    - Take Down

    Seismatoad: Level 36 (Poison Touch)

    - Muddy Water

    - Uproar

    - Mud Shot

    - Aqua Ring

    Some notable PC pokemon are:

    Vibrava

    Starmie

    Unfezant (M)

    Persian

    Zebstrika

    Darmanitan

    Nidoqueen

    Toxicroak

    Carvanha.

Thanks for any and all help folks!

  15. Curious if any of you fellow Reborn friends also pass the time buy building Plastic Crack...I mean Gunpla?

The wife and I just picked up this haul from "Gundam From Japan" while in Florida last weekend.

Just curious! Have a good one guys and gals,

    Community questions:
So, who are you?:  Just a fellow Pokémon fan. Started playing the games when I was 10 and have enjoyed it ever since. I live in a rural area and enjoy nature. I work at an ice cream factory and have been married since 2013 to the woman of my dreams. I'm really just a very simple guy who digs games of all kinds, movies, anime, and doing anything fun. I'm just as happy playing or watching baseball, golf, or fishing as I am with a controller in my hands!

Anything you're responsible for? Not really. I used to do some streaming and some Youtubing, and I'd like to again some day. I guess you can say I'm responsible for my channels. Otherwise, really nothing yet.

What can I talk to you about? Any and everything. I'm a fairly open book and am a good listener. Always willing to learn and to make new friends! I'm not the best at dealing with issues myself, but hey, if I can help I'll give it a shot!

Closing statements? Just that I'm glad to be back on the Reborn forums and to be able to chat with all you kind folks!

Yessss... finally another people that like persona but still persona 3 and 5 not dark enough for you ?d=====( ̄▽ ̄*)b

Don't get me wrong. I loved both P3 and P5. I think I have 200+ hours in P5! haha. It's just that mainline SMT games go....maybe not darker....but more mature-ish? I'm not sure how to explain it. I just enjoy their environments and stories a bit more. I do love the Persona games though!

  18. 5 minutes ago, Angelkitsune said:

Does persona count i mean they are slightly similar and come from the same company(o′┏▽┓`o)

Of course. Persona is definitely an SMT game. I think P5 dropped the SMT part of the title though, if I remember correctly. Nocturne and P3 were actually my entry-points into the series. I played through P5 last year and adored it! I do tend to like the darker storylines of the mainline SMT games though! However that's just a personal preference.
