Slippin' Slide!
Hello once again, friends! I'm here to bring you yet another RMT, I hope you enjoy it! This team will focus mainly on a phasing Dragonite, so it should be interesting, at least. Without further ado, let's dive in.
Team Building Process:
Seeing as I was going to abuse Phasenite, I needed someone to set up rocks. I was originally going to choose Tyranitar, but since that would contradict Multiscale, I went with Terrakion here.
Now, obviously, if I'm gonna use a Pokemon so weak to Rocks, I will need a proper spinner to get rid of them. I wanted someone rather fast, who could reliably spin while dishing out big damage at the same time. Thus, Starmie was the obvious choice.
Weather is very helpful with a team centered around setting up hazards, and shifting the opponent around. Sadly, Rain was my best option since I was using Dragonite to do all the phasing for me. While it doesn't do additional damage, it does help weaken Fire moves, and gives Starmie a boost in case I screw up with my battle plan.
Ferrothorn here is the main reason Rain is so important. But, I won't go into much detail there. Anyway, Ferrothorn's main purpose on the team is to set up Spikes, which alongside Stealth Rocks, makes Dragonite's job so much better.
Here's the main Pokemon himself. As you may have picked up on, this is a Phasing Dragonite. His main purpose is to Dragon tail the opponents team around once all my hazards have been set up.
The last member of the team is a Ghost we all know and love, Gengar! His purpose is pretty simple, spin blocking. After all, I can't have all my hazards being spun away.
In Depth:
@ Focus Sash
Trait: Justified
EVs: 252 Atk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Jolly Nature (+Spd, -SAtk)
- Stealth Rock
- Swords Dance
- Close Combat
- Stone Edge
Terrakion is a very useful lead, he's such a powerful threat in OU that most people will switch into that proper wall as soon as he shows up. Which is what makes him a great lead. He will almost always force a switch, making setting up my Rocks an easy task. The rest of the set is pretty much for a late game sweep in case my phasing fails. I have Swords Dance for a quick +2 attack, which hits everything hard with his nice dual STAB Close Combat and Stone Edge. The Focus Sash is for leads that could harm him, basically making setting up Rocks a sure thing.
@ Life Orb
Trait: Natural Cure
EVs: 252 SAtk / 4 SDef / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Rapid Spin
- Thunderbolt
- Hydro Pump
- Ice Beam
Starmie, like mentioned before, is my Rapid Spinner. Of course, it's not the only thing it can do. I have Hydro Pump for STAB damage, and in Rain, nearly perfect accuracy and a nice damage boost along with Life Orb. Thunderbolt hits flying types like Tornadus hard, while Ice Beam hits Dragons and Breloom hard. Starmie also functions as a special sweeper in case things get rough.
@ Leftovers
Trait: Drizzle
EVs: 192 HP / 252 Def / 64 SAtk
Bold Nature (+Def, -Atk)
- Protect
- Encore
- Scald
- Hypnosis
Politoed is my physical wall, and weather set up Pokemon of choice. I have Protect to get more Leftovers recovery, while Scald is there in hopes of burning something, all while providing nice damage in rain. Encore really helps with set up sweepers like Dragonite, or Calm Mind Jirachi. And Hypnosis is there to put them to sleep should they stay in. I divided up the HP and SAtk evs so Toed could pack a little punch with Scald.
@ Leftovers
Trait: Iron Barbs
EVs: 252 HP / 88 Def / 168 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Spikes
- Power Whip
- Leech Seed
- Gyro Ball
My special wall, and Spikes set up Pokemon. Ferrothorn is built to take anything special aimed at Politoed or Starmie, and setting up Spikes accordingly. Leftovers combined with Leech Seed helps him survive even longer, while Power Whip and Gyro Ball are for STAB damage should the need for attacking arise. I also put a little physical bulk in him in case he needs to take any stray physical attacking moves that threaten the team the most.
@ Leftovers
Trait: Multiscale
EVs: 252 HP / 4 Def / 252 SDef
Careful Nature (+SDef, -SAtk)
- Substitute
- Thunder Wave
- Roost
- Dragon Tail
Now for the best part. The Phasing Dragonite. I've grown to love this thing a lot. I will usually switch Dragonite in on Pokemon he can completely wall, like a Breloom. Set up a Substitute, and either Roost, or just phase the Pokemon out with a Dragon Tail. Thunder Wave helps Dragonite cope with his slow speed, since I don't have any speed evs. While Roost gains HP back. He's built to be specially bulky, so his phasing job becomes easier. I could split his defensive evs equally, but I'm not too sure if that would be of use or not.
@ Black Sludge
Trait: Levitate
EVs: 4 HP / 252 SAtk / 252 Spd
Timid Nature (+Spd, -Atk)
- Substitute
- Disable
- Shadow Ball
- Focus Blast
This is your standard Sub+Disable Gengar. Gengar serves as the teams spin blocker, and provides extra resistance for the team as a whole. Substitute is nice to have on Fighting or spinning switch ins, since most can't touch Gengar, prompting a switch as you Sub. While Disable can take away the only thing they can hit you with, if they stay in. Shadow Ball gives a nice STAB attacking, and Focus Blast hits steel and dark types hard. I have Black Sludge for HP gain, also helps against trick should a Pokemon carry it.
Like always, I hope you enjoyed the RMT, and you can find the importable below. Happy battling!
