  1. Sorry to interrupt your discussions and all, but as someone who wants to expand into the fighting genre and who has never played any iteration of Smash before, what advice would you guys recommend for a base level newbie like me? I'm planning on getting the game (3DS Version, cause I'm a pleb who doesn't use consoles over PC) over XMas, and I've watched several tutorials as well as numerous tournament matchups so far. Outside of things like the tier list, what things should I focus on or learn when I start the game and begin experimenting with characters?
  2. Woah, I wasn't expecting this to get many responses, but that's pretty cool to see your responses on this. I guess cause a few people are clarifying certain movesets and roles within the teams, I could better clarify mine, with a couple explanations too. Heliolisk: (Lead, Weather setter, cute little lizard who packs a nasty punch) Rain Dance Dragon Pulse Parabolic Charge Thunder Feraligatr: (Tied for favorite all time, first signature pokemon to go out, Dragon Dance power sweeper in the rain, not so cute terrifying alligator that packs an even nastier punch) Dragon Dance Aqua Tail Ice Punch E-Quake? (Undecided) Aggron: (Complimentary steel plated dinosaur, who doesn't want that? Also the physical wall on this team, but can also go to head smashing when necessary) Head Smash Iron Tail Metal Burst Protect Sceptile: (Other special sweeper, uses rain to cover weakness to fire, can also serve to counter ground and water types, prob coolest Lizard on here, has an attitude) Energy Ball Dragon Pulse Focus Blast (miss) Solarbeam Braviery: (Shiny, serves function of being portable 747, Murica bird, overall favorite pure flying type (when not considering dragons) for being bulky and hard hitting, could see use in Double battles, also can set up tailwind to benefit party) Brave Bird Superpower Tailwind Return / Facade Lucario: (Other signature pokemon, tied for favorite, finale sweeper / clutch player / matchup abuser, mega user on team, Ash's worst nightmare, good old brawler mon for great finishes) Metal Claw Hi Jump Kick Extremespeed Blaze Kick / Bone Rush Also, This guy...
  3. So, I've had this thought for awhile now. Going back and watching a couple of the Kalos League battles, and some of the other canon league battles, it always struck me how unique some trainers teams were, sometimes running a few high end competitive Pokemon that would be considered OU, but also quite a few random Pokemon that would be kinda like signature Pokemon that the trainer simply matched in terms of personality, or other non battle related reasons. I know that a lot of people like to present their best competitive teams for simulators like Showdown, but I've never really seen a Pokemon team that just seems to be made for the sake of just having fun, or trying to appeal to whoever the trainer is in terms of personality. Basically, I'm curious to exactly what six Pokemon you would take into a league match, assuming stupidly flawed type matchup breaking OP Greninja based god anime battle logic. I get that for some, running their Showdown teams would be just fine because of how competitive they are. But me personally, I find that the teams I make on such simulators do not really fit the type of Pokemon and playstyles that I really want to use, instead just trying to play a different game to try and adapt to and counter the meta. In a way, this could be considered a list of your six favorite Pokemon you would take out just for the sake of a battle and presenting yourself, without having to worry about a strictly defined numerical game being what decides your six man roster. For example, my realistic and more personified team would consist of: So what would you guys run in a more crazy, fun world instead of the meta?
  4. Roundhouse Kick Type: Fighting Category: Physical Power: 100 Accuracy: 100 Target: Single - Adjacent PP: 10 (16) Description: The user rotates its hips and slams the edge of its foot into the target. This move may cause the target to flinch, however, if this move is used before the enemy and before any other attacking move of the user, the move may cause the user to flinch itself (50% flinch chance) Learned by: Blaziken, Hitmonlee, Medicham, Sawk, Lucario, Lopunny, and Mienshao naturally. All other fighting types may learn this through a tutor (except Harriyama, Machamp, Emboar, and Heracross, due to stubby legs or frame problems) Going through movepools recently, I've felt like the fighting type movepool seems a little too macho and focused on upper body technique, with very few kicks mixed in (notably, Jump Kick, Hi Jump Kick, Low Sweep, and Low Kick, which really are just two variants of two separate moves.) As a martial artist myself, I feel like kicking aspect of fighting type is sorely lacking, especially considering that these moves have advantages that standard punching / arm moves cannot simulate, such as greater reach and power, only for the tradeoff of requiring a lighter, more flexible body type with greater balance. This especially seems a little confusing considering how many fighting types that don't focus on just pure strength and muscles, instead focusing on technique and agility within the same techniques to achieve similar effects. Anyway, when making this move, I felt as if I should simulate the pros and cons of using such a technique in real life. Using this attach grants the user a strong, reliable move with the ability to knock an opponent off-balance with good aim. This move serves to give fighting types greater longevity as opposed to Close Combat, a reliable but dangerous move, at the sacrifice of spontaneous higher power. The reason for the complicated self flinch chance goes back to a fundamental weakness with using kicks as a 'leading' move, which is that any opponent that hasn't been hit with any other attacks can easily predict this technique and trap your leg or throw you off balance due to its obvious windup. To prevent this from becoming too powerful of a move overall, this move can only be learned as an egg move to any Pokemon that can learn an kicking move in the first place. Also, I would like to nominate two variations of a move already present, Blaze Kick. We've had elemental punches forever, now it's time to give the elemental kicks some love, and a potentially riskier but greater reward seems quite fair for the very limited set of Pokemon that can learn Blaze Kick in the first place. Kick variations to be added would be Electro Kick and Frost Kick, sharing the exact same properties as Blaze kick but with the associated elemental status condition modified into the description.
  5. Plot twist -- Orderly John turns out to be the leader of Team Meteor and whips out a Ditto-ceus to ruin our dreams.
  6. Wow, this field actually looks gorgeous. Besides potential gym usage, is there room for this field to exist anywhere within the natural game world? Potentially on mountains or other large open spaces during nighttime? Or could it be a really rare weather phenomenon that overrides all other outside field types during the night? Regardless, I like the work on this field, although some of those modified type matchups seem a bit... scary...
  7. As others have said before, Harriyama was a huge early game MVP for me, and also helped out quite nicely against Serra and Charlotte with Thick Fat being a godsend of an ability. Donphan saved my run when facing Doc Sigmund, and carried his own overall, Sudowoodo came in clutch against Aya, and was generally useful all over. But I think my real MVP was Archeops, which had a neutral nature, but IV's all at 25 or above, and single handedly flinch haxed Lord Arceus to death, destroyed Samson, and helped me accidentally beat Ciel on what was supposed to be a scouting suicide run, but turned into a speed sweep, not to mention killing at least 2 Pokemon at every other gym that his prehistoric wings graced. In all seriousness though, I think that Archen has to be removed or heavily balanced, because it is too good for the late game.
  8. Perfectionism may be a curse, but it can also lead to some truly epic stuff if monitored correctly. Although if that means we have to balance out smooth af animations like Focus Miss alongside Mushroom Dances to keep you devs sane, then that's even better! Also, is there plans for dragon pulse in EP16? My Noivern desperately needs politely requests for some eye candy...
  9. Oh wow, Dragon Exeggutor is just asking to get guillotined based on that neck.
  10. What exactly does 16-bit Space Jam sound like anyway? A quick note on Inuki's animation. First off, awesome work on the whole thing overall, I like how the length of the animation is smoothly broken up through several stages. However, I feel like the two stages where the target goes up into the sky (atmosphere? space?) and back down again have their respective direction arrows in the wrong direction. It still looks great, but to better emulate the action of the Pokemon moving vertically up and down, the air lines should be going in the opposite direction that the targets are moving. Either way, I'm loving that animation and will have to breed seismic toss onto one of my mains now (oh god the pains of IV breeding), but just wanted to know if that background effect was intended.
  11. Lol, go ahead and play with fire then. I guess if you want to see the world burn, then go ahead, but if this field gets used with Fern's team and it gets on a roll...? I'm not playing with a defense boosted contrary abusing Leaf Storm Serperior, no thanks. On the other hand, playing Reborn with grass fields has really changed my opinion of fire types, so I guess that's a positive.
  12. Good to see the status updates. Just finished ep15 by accident, and desperately greatly looking forwards to the next!
  13. Wow that title goes way back for me. I guess because I'm bad with introductions, I'll just lay this out in the most structured way possible. Basics: - My first Pokemon game was Blue. - Favorite generation is 2nd Gen. - Favorite Type(s): Water, Fighting, Steel, Flying. - Favorite Starter: Totodile (Big surprises can come in small packages) - Favorite Overall: #448. General Stuff: - I run year round, cross country in the summer and fall, track & field in the winter and spring. - When I'm not ripping my hair out and spending hours studying and grinding to beat Florinia playing strategy games like this one, I usually play FPS's or Sandbox games. - I love cars. Especially supercars. If they are Italian, they are probably hanging as posters in my room or standing around as a model. - I've practiced martial arts for about ten years now, so I can kinda relate to my favorite pocket monster by coincidence. - My favorite subject is physics, I also started taking classes in Java this past year. I'm more of a reader than a forum participant, but after going through these forums many times throughout my playthrough of EP15, I thought it would be worth it to join, seeing the community is quite helpful and outgoing, and the developers actually seem like pretty cool people. Not to mention seeing that legendary post by Timber Dragon pretty much hyped me through the entire game, and was the post that got me into actually looking through the forums in the first place. And I guess that's it for me, I hope this post is up to standards, but in reality, I'm just struggling to ramble on pointlessly drop walls of text about myself. Also, EP16 Hype!
