  1. Satomi's expression of confusion returned to her face when Calvera spoke. "Giant spheres of fire? B-billions of years old? Wh-whuh...?" Satomi had never actually even heard the number billion more than once or twice in her life, and now this woman was claiming to be as old as multiple of that number? AND she was claiming to be a great sphere of flame? Satomi found herself totally noncomprehending.
  2. Satomi was hesitant for a moment, looking back at the motorcycle she'd been eagerly taking notes of, but she did end up handing Frigus the ink and brush. "Um... sure. But make it quick if you can, please!" Then Calvera came and spoke to her, and it was Satomi's turn to look confused at another person's lack of xomprehension about something. Still, Satomi supposed it would be hypocritical of her not to provide the woman with an answer. "Erm, right, well, it's a notebook. I draw pieces of designs I notice in case I can figure out a way to use them later," Satomi had the thought that maybe Calvera came from somewhere before writing. "Uh... ...and since in most countries certain symbols make words when you put them together I can take down notes about things I see."
  3. Satomi doesn't initially look particularly happy to have her attention ripped away from her examination of Armsmaster's motorcycle, but it becomes clear that that's a kneejerk reaction when her expression of irritation calms down in a couple of seconds. Then that expression becomes one of confusion -- with Satomi now turned towards Frigus, he might now see that what she's holding along with her notebook is a small (and diminishingly full what with all the use) pot of ink and a brush. Satomi stares at Frigus for a couple of seconds, before asking him a little sheepishly: "Er... what's a pen?"
  4. By the time that Armsmaster asks for their names, Satomi is already distracted by his gear, and she is interrupted in the middle of peering intently at his motorcycle, with the notebook and brush and ink pot back in her hands. "Uh, my name is Satomi, Kaiu family," she mutters as she takes a step closer to his cycle just to get an easier view of it with her nearsighted eyes. She has started to scribble in her notebook.
  5. Now that the encounter seemed to have ended, Satomi took her hand off of the hilt of her katana and approached the group, satisfied with her handiwork on the buildings. When she approached the group, and Walters talking to the man from Earth Bet who had arrived during the fight, she elected not to speak just for a little while, while she oriented herself in the conversation.
  6. Navin had listened patiently as Edmond got the information that they required from Cu; he was hardly about to interrupt the receiving of information that was vital to what they needed to do, of course. But Navin did have something he wanted to ask, something that was simultaneously as vital as and less vital than the identities of their next enemies. "Ah, yes, I actually do have a question. Is there any way to save the others, the other Servants that have been corrupted? If it just turns out that there isn't any way around things like this, I am... prepared to deal with that. But I have to at least try to see a way around death, if I can, since this battle is now over."
  7. The situation was about to reach a tipping point, Satomi could tell; the buildings had been evacuated, and now a new arrival had come, a man with many things that were both incredibly strange and incredibly fascinating (his unfolding polearm, his armor, and his motorcycle). Satomi had to admit that she had absolutely no idea what was going to happen: it was clear that at least Kigane had a plan to do something, and this meant that she shouldn't go charging the masked man... but still, Satomi would hate to just stand around, even though she'd been ordered to do it before waiting for good shots on the Wall. Satomi found what to do next fairly easy, however, and she ran over to the one building with any damage left on it, performing rapid maintenance to get rid of the little bit of fire hazard left... as well as taking care of some very easy fixes that she just happened to be able to make. Satomi uses Structural Repair on Building A, unsure what to do otherwise!
  8. For now, Satomi continued her routine of maintenance with her wakizashi, preventing the one structure still particularly damaged from catching on fire (and if she happened to fix an easy problem or two with the building that was nice too). But she noticed that this was the last of these buildings she'd have to repair, unless the masked man attacked them. She also noticed that some of her newfound companions were beginning to engage the transforming man (maho? Actually maho might not even exist here), and accordingly she started to keep a hand near her katana: at this rate she suspected she and more of the others would need to get involved. Stuctural Repair on Building D!
  9. Navin had seen several things during the course of his superhero career, and some of the creatures he'd fought and the encounters he'd lived through had been truly bizarre ones indeed. But this... well, it was really on a whole different level. Honestly, Navin had a little bit of trouble processing exactly what had just happened. The bus-- the sky-- Cu Chulainn-- yeah... the Indian superhero just stood and stared gaping for a moment, before hesitantly stepping forward with the rest of the group to listen to the words of the dying Berserker. There was no hesitation in the reply to Edmond over the radio, however. <"Excellent. Ask him about the identities of Saber and Lancer.">
  10. Satomi took another moment to scan the course of the battle, noting that things had taken a turn for the intense; though the buildimgs were not taking much more damage, the potential for the, to do was growing. Civilians were beginning to leave the buildings, a stream of people that her newfound allies were ushering away to safety. The man in the mask underwent strange oni-like mutations, growing scales and claws as he roared and burned. It was a lot of variables to track, and Satomi only knew the basics of strategy, the courses of her dojo she'd paid secondary attention to at best. But Satomi was good at tracking variables. Extremely so -- juggling a great number of calculations in her head was what made Satomi such a prodigal engineer, and she was certain that she could narrow down the best course of action to take. Attacking the masked man was clearly a poor idea, and the questionably even damaged houses were clearly not the present priority. Of the two more damaged houses, Satomi remembered that one had had fewer people escape from it; assuming relatively equal numbers of dwellers, it was likely fuller, and was what she needed to focus on. Satomi rushed over to the building and performed the same ember-scraping she had before, extinguishing embers and dropping the, to the dirt with wide, practiced move, ents of her short sword. It wasn't very pretty work, and her wakizashi would surely require special maintenance later, but it did its job, and therefore allowed Satomi to do hers. Structural Repairs on Building E!
  11. When Satomi came onto the scene of the fire with everyone else, she immediately noted a couple of things, her thoughts analytical as she took stock of the situation and the damage in the area. First of all: the one responsible for the fire and those she presumed to be said man's henchmen seemed to be wholly occupied: the gangsters with running away like cowards (though that was good for them), and the fiery man with being attacked by bugs, much like everyone else. Secondly, she noted that there was not actually very much damage from the battle; she had expected flaming buildings, but Satomi could see that those that were damaged were barely even singed! These two facts together meant that the situation was not the apocalypse the man with the goblin had clearly expected, and that for now the situation would be under control. It also highlighted the utter lack of Duty of the two who had chosen to run away. But no matter that, Satomi did have repair work to do, even if it was rather minimal. With the state these houses were in, repair would more or less simply consist of preventing the houses from catching fire due to an ember in their scorching or something like that; it would be as easy as scraping off any embers she found on the walls with the blunt side of her wakizashi, even with the bizarre architecture of the houses here in Earth Bet. And Satomi could do that quite quickly; she had had to do maintenance back in dojo at Shiro Kaiu, after all. Satomi uses Structural Repair on Building C! 12. There was more that Satomi wanted to say to Arminius (the thing that bothered her the most was his lack of hesitation, and his condescension towards the thought of anyone wanting to help; it spoke to a lack of a sense of Duty, and while these gaijin may not follow Bushido Satomi couldn't help but think that to be a general moral thing anyway), but the situation wasn't a situation that would allow her to stand around and talk anymore. Now that she had a chance to really help out... "I'm coming! I'm an engineer primarily, so I should be able to help keep things more stable even if this architecture is very strange to me!" She began to run after Mirri, not hesitating to really beat feet, but she did call one last thing over shoulder: "I hope you all at least have the Duty and Courage to help with this task, if nothing else!" Satomi joins team Gestation Interruption.
  13. Satomi shot a look at Arminius that was none too approving. "Weren't you the one who first started getting on that man with the strange key sword for not wanting to interfere with realms in trouble? Or does your willingness to perform your duty just change based on your personal safety?" Naturally, there was a bit of reproach in her voice as she said this. But then Satomi looked down, with a sigh, and after a couple of seconds spoke again. "If you believe that this Lung is out of our ability to deal with, and that fighting him would make things worse, then I'd be willing to follow you all to this warehouse. However, we could go back to investigate it later, yes? Help with the repairs?"
  14. A couple minutes earlier: Upon the sudden eruption of fire and sound, Satomi's hand went to the sheath of her katana, the brilliant samurai's face twisting into a grimace. "I know I said I was worried about jumping in to early, but... you are sure we can really just leave things alone? Maybe it isn't explicitly my duty to intervene here... but people should be protected, whether they're samurai or peasants or whatever they are, and something like that in the middle of a city..."
  15. "Right... but that would fall apart sooner or later. I'm not very used to pretending to be things I am not, either... I suppose I don't have much choice right now but to go with it." When he indicated that he wanted to ask about the samurai of her word, however, Satomi did perk up. "Go ahead! I would love to answer any questions you have about Rokugan, and the samurai in it. We would be talking about my homeland and the people in it, after all, likely including my Clan, and I would always be happy to talk about them."
  16. "Well... right. The only ones like Rokugani samurai are Rokugani samurai, though. I guess that I would be one of the targets that these "Asian Bad Boys" tend to choose, then. I will have to be prepared to fight should we come across them. Oh, well, it is in the nature of a samurai to be prepared for such situations anyway!" Satomi suddenly cut off, quiet as she kept walking but instead thought about something for a little while, her middle finger on the ridge of her eyebrow while her pointer finger tapped at her temple. "Hummmmmmm... that reminds me of something I was going to ask. How should we deal with the fact that we're from other realm? Me, for example... this realm that we're in, Earth Bet is literally beyond my wildest dreams. If you want me to pretend that I'm one of the foreig-- er, one of these Japanese kinds of samurai, I don't know how well I would do. I get the feeling I'm going to be having a lot of difficulties here... but on the other hand, if we just say that we're from different realms, people will probably not believe us and helping them will become more difficult..."
  17. "Pfah, I wouldn't worry too badly about these "Asian Bad Boys". Even if I were alone, I am a samurai, after all. And I'm not one of those wimpy Crane women, either, I'm a Crab! We're the toughest clan of them all. They wouldn't find it very easy to force me into being a courtesan." Satomi still couldn't help but shudder a little at the thought; the sheer shame and dishonor of such a fate would be terrible. Still, she was confident in her assessment, especially in as large and seemingly powerful a team as this. Especially with the giants that were on the team, evidently; she came up to the chest of this "Jun" person, and the new arrival was probably literally twice as tall as she was. Well, the measurements worked out in her head, anyway. After a couple more moments of thought, she turned to Somatotrope. "Hummm... you've listed the main potential enemies and obstacles for us to work with, here, but do you know of any potential allies that we could have, or anywhere that we could find lodging? I think we might end up throwing ourselves into things too hastily if we don't know either of these things."
  18. The short Rokugani architect had been hanging roughly around the rear of the group as they traveled through the streets, still looking halfway stunned as she looked around at the buildings and the scenery, her brush flying on her notepad (mostly just noting the feats she was seeing; she was very far from being able to figure out how they work), still with a fairly dreamy expression on her face. Really, Satomi was practically in heaven. The others kept talking about this area being a "shithole", or run down, and in fairness Satomi had noted that much of it seemed poorly maintained, especially the sunken ships... but that didn't change the fact that the technology and architecture on display here played mightily to her curiosity; she had not been lying when she said it was beautiful. Those buildings, stretching into the sky... Satomi let out a little dreamy sigh. The thunderous arrival of a new figure, and the fight that almost broke out immediately afterwards, finally snapped Satomi out of her reverie, as she had started hurriedly putting her note supplies back into her kimono, and drew her katana out of its sheath once the native of this world put gravel between them and the new figure. While it turned out to be unnecessary, evidently adter putting away her sword Satomi decided she had written enough, because she didn't take her notepad, pen, or ink out. Instead, she just evidently was thinking of something. "Hmm... I was mistakenly asked if I was "Japanese" earlier, and it was mentioned that these, uh, "Asian Bad Boys" were targeting "Asians", including "Japanese". I want to ask: what is an Asian?"
  19. Satomi was staring at the city itself, still, the samurai girl's arms hanging limply at her sides as she continued to be utterly consumed by her astonishment, practically heedless of those around her. Well, not totally heedless. The Kaiu heard someone talking at her (the older gaijin...) and though she didn't register exactly what was being said, she felt the need to at least say something in return, albeit not tearing her eyes off of the skyscrapers in the distance. "It's... it's the... most beautiful thing that I've ever seen... in my life..." she said, her voice more than a little dreamy.
  20. Satomi took the opportunity to investigate this bizarre city a little further, wandering slightly out of the alleyway, and then turning her head right. At first, Satomi didn't really notice anything amiss (her vision was poor enough that if she wasn't focusing it just looked like mountains out there), but then she stared and squinted for a coupe of seconds, before proceeding to realize what she was seeing. Glittering spires of metal and glass piercing the heavens, somehow supporting their own weight as they rose past the height of the biggest castle in all of Crab Clan lands, no, past five of the biggest castle in all of Crab Clan lands! These marvels, these unimaginable wonders, they formed a line in the sky, a sight utterly shocking to Satomi's core; not even the most brilliant or eccentric of the Kaiu ever imagined anything like this. That didn't even mention the incredibly strange ships clogging the water, or the metal contraptions that appeared to be zipping around faster than even the swiftest of Unicorn Clan horses. "B-by all the kami..." she managed, her voice hardly louder than a whisper. Her notepad, brush, and small pot of ink clattered to the ground (the last object by some miracle managing barely to spill) from a now-limp grasp, as Satomi stared in undisguised slackjawed awe at this city of the land of Earth Bet.
  21. Satomi blinked a couple of times when she first appeared in this "Earth Bet" world they had been discussing. Then she looked around... then she squinted, to try to sharpen the details of the buildings on the other side of the street. These buildings... they were very large. Sure, the Kaiu-built fortresses were far bigger, but you didn't see them stacked side by side in the (bizarrely black) street of some city, either, like this. Satomi could tell that these buildings were crumbling (perhaps the area had a poor daimyo), but nonetheless the samurai engineer let out a low, impressed whistle, idly writing at the notepad still in her hands. "How fascinating... this architecture, it's so bizarre. But these buildings... they're so large, and yet they seem not to be particularly special buildings! Incredible... truly incredible... Is this what other worlds have to offer?"
  22. Some of Satomi's discomfort seemed to dissipate as she listened to Kusuke describe the way his power worked -- she was genuinely intrigued now, and curiosity could sometimes be a rather overriding motivation for the Rokugani engineer. "Interesting, interesting... fascinating, actually!" Satomi reached into her kimono all of a sudden, and pulled out a notebook (getting these wasn't that hard for a Kaiu), and then a brush; she more gingerly reached into her garment, then, and pulled out a small bottle of ink she had evidently been keeping in a fold where it wouldn't be uncomfortable. Taking a few moments to open up the tightly-sealed container (she did NOT want to spill ink inside her kimono), she dipped her brush into the container, sat down in one of the particularly fancy chairs, and began to scrawl out notes, also suddenly barraging Kusuke with questions. "Kigane, right? If we have the time and the need, I might want to try to rope you into helping me out with that ability... I can think of one or two ways it would make my life significantly easier. Hmmm... a couple questions, I suppose. What kinds of things can you bring with you, and how big, if it's just a few minutes back or forth? Do you have to be in direct contact with them? Is there a downside to frequent use of your ability? How strong are you?"
  23. Most of what this Kusuke gaijin (well, Satomi was pretty sure he was a gaijin) was saying went over her head; magic was far from Satomi's area of knowledge or frankly interest, but the bits of it that she was able to glean told her that he had some sort of ability to mess with time. "That's... huh. There's nothing like that where I come from, but I can already think of ways it could be useful for... well, basically everything! Fighting, obviously, conversations, obviously, but you could probably find ways to significantly shorten the time for smithing, or for construction, you could scout with it... are there limits on how you can use this power?"
  24. "Yeah, well, if they weren't willing to commit backstabbing, my clan wouldn't have supply problems. But people often don't realize exactly how bad things are until they're looking them in the eye, and then they feel entitled to put their squabbling above the fight against the enemies that actually want to kill everything." Fingers' enthusiastic talking about smashing "'umies" also brings a frown to Satomi's face, and the blue-kimono-wearing girl turned to look again at Arminius and Fingers. "A goblin, you said...?" It definitely wasn't one of the goblins she was familiar with and had fought once or twice (not unbelievably filthy, not green, not trying to kill anything) but the talk about smashing and bashing did make Satomi a bit wary.
  25. Satomi listened to the new change in conversation, at first with quiet interest, and then with a frown increasingly twisting her face. Eventually, the tiny samurai spoke up, with a bit of frustration in her voice. "I can't really see any way that not telling people anything and not acting is going to aid us in performing our new duty. If you don't follow the tenet of Duty, then you will fail, and your purpose will go unfulfilled. Here, this means that the marauding hordes are going to be more able to consume everything. Duty should be the easy choice over dereliction here." The source of her frustration reveals itself here as a bit of genuine anger blooms into her voice, and she clenches her fists whiteknuckled. "But this isn't going to be easy, I know that from experience. I doubt that people are going to realize how important getting ready to fight is, if this is all true, up until the enemy is literally staring them in their faces. Honestly... people are willing to stab you in the back and sneer about it even as you're defending them from pure evil itself. We shouldn't hold back, and we shouldn't try to keep them in ignorance, but we shouldn't be expecting the best either." Then another person walked in, and having had a couple of seconds to cool off, Satomi looked at him and spoke to him. "Uh... honestly, can you tell me what you didn't miss?"
