  1. Is it just me or are Reborn's title screen and bike tracks a good deal louder than most others? This is something that's been bugging me forever.

      Alistair

Definitely true for the title track (and I think it was already the case back in E15). I hadn't noticed for the bike music, but now that you're mentioning it, maybe it's a bit louder indeed.

  2. Hi, could you please unarchive my Ground Monotype thread? I've been told you're the one to approach about this.

Also, how long does it take for a thread to get archived because of inactivity?

Done, sorry for the wait. It might take a bit to process but after that it should be good.

  3. So, uh, anyone know who I can talk to about un-archiving my Monotype thread?

Also, anyone know how long a thread has to be inactive before it gets archived?

@Ikaru can answer all your questions, or so I hear.

  4. Well, seems like I already did all I care for in Epsiode 17.

Felt somewhat short, especially since it was basically just a whole lot of walking around. My team barely leveled up.

      Spoiler

Probably, but from what I gathered ya'll going on a merry adventure with Taka

      Spoiler

ended with him dead. He still lives in my game, or at least I haven't seen him die. He didn't show up again, after all. We'll see where that goes.

I did deny fighting Taka, but I also didn't let him accompany me in the desert. |D

Eh, I've still got three Monotypes to continue, probably gonna have him tag along in one of those.

  6. Heya, dumb question but is this the Itemfinder mod in action or did something bug out?
  7. Public release is out, so time to dive back into Reborn. Hopefully without any major bugs (E16 weather says hello)

So, anyone know how to get the Move Tutor that teaches Giga Drain? I already did the Corin Rogue sidequest and bought all the Pokémon from 7th Street, but didn't get him to show up.

The only thing I did was change time to midday - before I went in and then out and then in again in the first place.

Now I changed time back to night and he's still there. I am immensely confused.

Oh well, I finally got Giga Drain, so now I'll probably go retrain my Sceptile.

Also Signal Beam; my Flying run is going to need so many Green Shards.

      Jess

Yes, that's what I did too. But I had none in the cage alley when it was night. I switched to midday, went to Lapis Ward, back to 7th Street and POOF! He was there, willing to teach me moves.

I've completed my Bug run, but I might need Knock Off in my Poison or main runs!

Anyways, I'm glad trick worked! :) And I look forward to seeing your update in Ground and Fire monos! I'm waiting for Jan 1st when spoiler lock ends :)

Yeah, thanks for the help, even if I'm not sure what even made him show up. xD

I'll probably continue with my Ground Monotype once I did all I could find on my main run. Maybe see if I should get any of the Gen VII Ground Types.

  8. I never gave much on these sorts of "tests" and this is just another proof that I'm right. Most of this description is completely wrong lmao. The general description has a few sentences that do match me, but most of it is basically my opposite. The love/relationship part in particular made me snicker with how little it fits me.
  9. I looked into PMD fangames myself some time ago and apparentally something about how the dungeons work makes PMD notoriously difficult to work with? Didn't really dig into "creating one" part, only if any exist. There seems to have been a bunch of attempts that all died before they really got anywhere. Anyhow, this guy on Reddit made a post early this year about some ROM hacking tools he was working on. (I don't know how to link specific posts on Reddit, so here's the relevant thread.) You could try messaging him to see if he can help you get started.
  10. @Commander If that hypothetical boss's cool signature attack is the only memorable thing, then I'd say there can't be much character behind that. There's not necessarily anything wrong with that if being a boss fight is all that's supposed to be there. I think that the difference here is that any mindless beast or machine could provide a memorable battle while an actual character can carry weight outside of a combat encounter. That brings up the issue that most Gym Leaders only get their one battle and the dialogue right before and after, so not much opportunity to build a memorable character. You mentioned that the Leaders from Gen V on are more involved in the plot than previously, but that's really not true. The Unova Leaders in Black/White were involved, as each of them got their own short plot before the eventual gym battle, ususally involving Team Plasma. This continued with Team Plasma's attempted takeover of the League at the end of the game. It served to make the whole thing feel more connected, but that was dropped for all following games again. Neither the Unova leaders in BW2, nor the Kalos or Hoenn leaders took any action in the plot. Alola lacks Gym Leaders, but it has equivalents in the Trial Captains and Kahunas and again none of those take any action in the plot. With the exception of Black/White the various leaders have mostly received the same treatment. You enter the gym and get their pre- and post-battle dialogues. Aside from that one exception Gym Leaders have always sort of existed in their own little bubbles, separate from whichever story might or might not have been going on around them. Dunno what you mean with Yokai Watch's situation. If Black/White had been the first Pokémon games to be released, then I could see the series as being a lotdifferent from how it is now. More focused on stories that actually deal with the core principle of capturing creatures to have them fight each other, potentially with a greater variety of narrative across the various games rather periodically creating more new 'Mons. (The back of my head keeps saying "Shin Megami Tensei" while I'm thinking about that.) It's certainly true that the simpler nature of the Kanto games can make the things that are there stand out more, but I wouldn't count that as an overall credit for those games. If there's a lot of actors running around each individual one gets harder to pick out, but on the flipside how much does something being memorable really mean when there's nothing that could even compete against it? I think this is something where our experiences are completely different; for you that first time playing Pokémon is obviously something you still remember very well, for me it's just one playthrough among many of a game that I've basically memorized through repetition. Lastly, and this may be nitpicking, "Pokémon and story do not mix well". There's nothing about the concept of Pokémon that rules out having a engaging story. At most it's the formulaic approach of "Gym Leaders + Team Whatever, then Elite 4" that would work against having a good story. And even then, Black/White already showed that the whole thing can be weaved together into something that feels connected; the limiting factor then is how many unique plots you can form out of that. I think the two Cipher games on GameCube are a good indication of what a Pokémon game could look like if you removed that formula. You're still going around capturing Pokémon and fighting other trainers, but rather than the plot having certain "checkpoints" or Badge quotas that absolutely need to be hit you instead have a story that's (ideally) exactly as long as it needs to be.
  11. I'm gonna have to disagree with the Kanto Leaders being more memorable characters thahn later ones; when I think about the Leaders in Yellow Version the things that come to mind are Onix's Bide, that frikken Starmie, Sabrina's Abra spamming Flash or Koga's ridiculously high-leveled Venonat horde. All of these are things that are related to gameplay, rather than the characters themselves. I played Yellow and LG countless times, because they were my first Pokémon games, but if you ask me about these characters the most you'll get is something along the lines of "Brock likes Rocks". They're not memorable as characters because, as characters, they don't do shit. They just stand in their gyms waiting for challengers. In that sense they're no different from any NPC trainer standing in a Route; it's only their supposed role in the world that's different. The Unovan Leaders get much more screentime and, as you noted, are much more developed characters. So why are they less remembered? I say it's because we already know so many others. Brock and Co. aren't memorable for what they do or are, they're more memorable for when and how often we've seen them act out their roles. Most of us first played Pokémon as kids and most likely only had one game to start with. So we played that one over and over. It's always easier to remember Nr.1 in a long string of numbers following it and that only gets compounded when Nr.1 is also the one we're most familiar with. For most of us older fans the first games were RBY, so that's what we remember best. (It also helps that, honestly, those games are very simple so everything is easier to remember.) Let's say somebody started with the Sinnoh games, then the Leaders they'd remember the most are, I dunno, Fantina and Wake? Those two feel like they would stand out. For me personally, I played a lot of Emerald, so the Leaders I probably remember the most out of all of them are Watson, Winona and Tate+Liza. They don't get any more characterization than the Kanto Leaders, they're just the ones that managed to stand out throughout my various playthroughs. Not going to get into the whole Exploration vs Linearity thing; that's a matter of preference anyway. I'll just state that Sun/Moon really felt ridiculous with some of those NPC roadblocks.
  12. @Leuser Well, what exactly is giving you trouble? Is it the Field or certain Pokémon that you can't take out? Anyhow, Bisharp should do you good for this battle. If it's too slow to reliably take out enemies you can use Bronzong's Trick Room to make it go first. (Give it an Iron Ball if necessary.) Bronzong should also be able to deal good damage with Gyro Ball or Heavy Slam (dunno which one is better for this fight); you can also have it use Sand Storm to support Sandslash when Trick Room isn't up. I've heard Escavalier under Trick Room totally destroys Adrienn, so that one might be worth getting. Your Sandslash probably won't be much use in this battle; Earthquake endangers its partners, particularly the Steel and Poison Types that counter Fairiys and neither Iron Head nor Poison Jab are available yet. (Iirc the Iron Head Tutor can only be available after Adrienn, assuming he'll even show up at all in your game.) You can't use it to just Earthquake everything either because of Togekiss. You could try and time a Sword Dance-boosted Dig to take out Mawile as soon as it shows up, but other than that Sandslash likely won't get to deal any super effective damage. It doesn't take Special attacks well at all, so trying to Shadow Claw Gardevoir would be dangerous. If the Field is giving you trouble you could try poisoning the Misty Field with Garbodor; it'll harm most of your Pokémon as well, but will boost any Poison Offense you can get your hands on. Alternatively you could get something with Electric Terrain or Grassy Field; the latter can also be turned into a Corrosive Field if you have any Poison moves at your disposal.
  13. The main reason I'd like to see Pokémon following their trainer around is that, honestly, it doesn't make sense for them not to? Even disregarding wild Pokémon encounters we're constantly running around in fairly dangerous locales, including the various hideouts of a certain terrorist organization. Having at least one Pokémon out for your protection at any time is just the most sensible thing to do. As it stands the protagonist just kind of hopes they won't get surprise attacked, I guess? You could argue that most Pokémon aren't stealthy, but neither is beating up every Grunt in your way, so obviously we don't really care about staying hidden.

  15. I haven't played any other Warriors games either actually. Yeah, the mooks mostly don't really do a whole lot (they do get more active on higher difficulties), but if they all actually moved like they're seriously trying to kill you it would make the game unreasonably hard. It is very much a game series about mowing down hoards of enemies to cut your way through to the next enemy officer you need to take out. You're in the middle of a war and the hoards of enemies are there to reinforce that. Even if you personally don't care much for the killcount, there's still the issue that at the very least HW had missions and mechanics/extras that required killing a large number of enemies and that just gets unreasonably difficult when there aren't a lot of enemies around. Ever played HW's coop as Player 2? The game prioritizes spawning enemies for Player 1, so if you're on a "Kill X Enemies" you're pretty much unable to do much besides hacking down half a dozen guys here and there. Besides, sometimes it's just fun to see a crapton of NPCs all fighting over the same fort. Nothing quite like your HQ getting sieged by two enemies while close to falling and absolutely swamped with mooks and officers all beating the crap out of each other.
  16. The 3DS can't really the amount of enemies running around in a Warriors game. I tried the Hyrule Warriors Legends demo on a New 3DS and the number of enemies it loaded was downright pitiful. In a game series that lives on mowing down huge numbers of enemies I'd call that a big issue.
  17. Oh geez, it's already been half a year since I registered here.

  18. Sure, Archeops is powerful, but attacking is the only thing it's good at. Compare that to Slaking; the negative Ability here is justified because it has a monstrous Attack along with deceptively high Speed for its appearance and strong bulk, all combining to a stat total that rivals the various cover Legendaries. Archeops is powerful, but it's not like other Pokémon with comparable offense all get shafted with a negative Ability.
  19. Top three to four are a pretty easy pick, everything below gets quite a bit of competition. Sceptile - Slightly edges out all other starters for me; not the most powerful starter, but always been the most fun to use for me. Arcanine - I love the giant fluffdog and will use one as often as I can justify. I'd probably spend a lot of time riding around on this one and using him as pillow at all other time. One of the Pokémon I've always used back in Stadium Jolteon - Best Eeveelution, although I keep forgetting its fur is basically needles a lot of the time. Another one I always used back in Stadium and the one that made Electric one of my favoured Types. Pidgeot - The original Regional Bird, I always had one of these on my team in Yellow Version and they were always very reliable, even though later generations weren't very kind to it until ORAS; I loved Pidgeot before Bird Jesus was a thing. Also provides flying transportation. Milotic - Taking various means of transportation into accout, this one easily wins out against all other Water Types except Swampert. I've always liked its design, but only ever used one once in Omega Ruby, because they were always so hard to get. Flygon - Gotta have some Dragon and Ground STABs and Flygon provides both of them. It's my favourite Dragon Type and competes with Swampert for favourite Ground Type. I like the (somewhat punny) concept of a dragonlfydragon as well as its design. As you might have guessed Gen. I and III are my favourites as far as the Pokémon themselves are concerned.
  20. Heya Jess! So, from what I recall the only Bugs you didn't use at all in your Monotype were Beautifly, Mothim, Pinsir and Volbeat/Illumise, is that right?

Conversely, which Pokémon would you say were indispensible to your run?

Well, guess now I've got a bunch of plans on how to deal with Charlotte.

Back to earlier Pokémon: how important would you say Venomoth was to your run?

    3. Jess

      Jess

Not at all to be honest... It just doesn't learn good moves till waaay too late in game. Also, move relearner is quite a while in game, so it isn't very useful till then.

    4. Gentleman Jaggi

      Gentleman Jaggi

Ah, well that's good for me, because Gen. VII actually moved a bunch of its usefull attacks to earlier levels. ;p

  21. I can't say I've got any experience with 'Mons that turned out useless since I always plan out my teams in advance, but I'll have to admit that dragging Pidgeotto through the game until evolution, when its best STAB moves where still Tackle and Gust, got really hard for some time. I really had to stretch its privilege of being one of my favourites since pretty much always to keep it on my team. But you need that to get Vulpix! @Orasha@Bibs Can't talk about the other two, but I used Pansear on my Fire Monotype for quite some time and, while it definitely fell behind, it did manage to pull its weight well enough until I got better options. It gets Acrobatics, Crunch and Fire Blast surprisingly early and Amnesia+Yawn helped me stall out Shelly's Rain Dance. Funnily enough I remember having a lot of trouble dealing with Stantlers back in Stadium 2; both because I had basically no clue what I was doing and because those things liked to spam Earthquake, which almost everything I used had a weakness against.
  22. Weird thing is that Archeops isn't even overly powerful like Slaking or Wishiwashi; its stats are very lopsided towards sweeping, but it's not like it's the only Pokémon with specialised stats like that. I always felt that poor Archeops got unfairly gimped - not because of the negative ability (it's really frail, so Defeatist will come in less often than Archeops just plain going down in one hit), but more because it can't have any actually useful Abilities.
  23. I'm in a Mystery Dungeon mood lately.
