Fire Emblem on Forums: Tiny Steps (IC)
RedMageCole replied to Powder Miner's topic in Unofficial Official RP Club's General
Indeed, as Pinecone felt the scraping of wood against his skin, he felt no urge to slow down his assault. He still stood tall, looming over his enemies as he kept the smaller bugs (and Ebon) within his cover. He brandished his lance, his eyes set on the fire mage. He knew how dangerous it was to attack, and yet... "...I may miss this one. If I miss... I apologize for my failure." With that, Pinecone waited for his moment to strike, and fired at will. Lucy didn't respond to Justine— she met her eye, and then scurried over to her throne. She went back to laying down, trying not to cry. Arthur, on the other hand, finally caught his breath and groaned— burying his face in his hands. "God- I don't know, one minute War was there snuggling Lucy, then suddenly Ferdiad comes out and tries to cut her in half, then Baldur takes the blow for War, she's gone, Baldur's dying, Ferdiad's probably having a fucking existential crisis as we speak— I don't know. If that's what's gonna happen every time I take a relaxing walk, I'm just gonna stay indoors for the rest of my life... If Godiva's out there, though... It might be okay. I honestly don't know." ——— Kane doesn't make any sounds resembling laughter. "Not quite in that way. Taking on the world indirectly through schemes, I expected. Taking on the world head-on, dismantling kingdoms from the inside out with whatever help we can get, aimlessly killing like we're military rather than a ragtag band of thieves, and at this point we're probably going to be fighting the gods themselves if this Relic thing even works."

Arthur burst into the throne room— anxiously nudging Lucy back to the throne she found to be a nice resting place. She was more than happy to get back to laying down and getting comfortable. "Godiva— Need you outside— Orchid's hurt, stupid accident, need help now...!" It was in fragments, but Arthur's frustration and exhaustion was kicking in and he needed to convey his message as quickly as possible.

"Son of a bitch...!" Arthur didn't respond much at all, just grabbing Lucy by the arm and running for it— his grip was forceful, making Lucy feel more like she was being dragged rather than guided along. However, it still did the trick as she eventually got to her feet and ran with him into the hallway.

Mim's motion had been much too subtle, too warm for War to properly notice that something was amiss. Perhaps she had simply thought it a kind gesture towards Lucy after she had revealed a truth, a truth that Lucy most definitely wanted to tell the world but feared its reaction too greatly. Mim was warm— comfortable to Lucy, who was not ready to leave the caring embrace of someone who loved her. Of course, all was too quick for War— it would have been perfect, a clean shot that not even Famine would have survived, had Baldur not stepped in. War wheeled around the second Baldur shielded her, her own dress betraying her as she tripped on the back and fell to the snowy ground on her behind. She only watched— watched as the man saved her life. But why? She couldn't comprehend it. Her expression was almost offended that the man wasn't willing to let her take responsibility for her own failure to remember that she was an enemy. All for the sake of giving her final blessing to someone who she believed deserved a second chance in this world more than any one of the pitiable souls she knew... Yet her eyes held no contempt. How could she, for she was given a chance to live once more? And yet she felt she deserved no second chances, she wasn't even certain she wanted a second chance. Debt was a messy business. But her eyes held another punishment... The color drained from her face the second she looked upon her would-be murderer. It would have been a cliche, but it would have fit for the moment if she were to faint at that very moment. Yet she was too resilient for such a thing. She had seen too much in her life. She couldn't stop seeing. No matter how tightly her eyes shut— they'd keep flitting open in those moments where time slowed to a crawl. Though War was the most capable of keeping a cool head among the current Icons, her expression was that of pure, helpless frustration. “Why... Why must you always haunt me...?" Without so much as a word of thanks to the man who saved her life, War skittered away as fast as she could. Her freshly healed wounds impeded her no longer— though even if Baldur hadn't done such a thing, she would have fought the pain. The distant tearing of her dress could be heard, all dignity and care to her wardrobe forgotten as she freed her legs up as much as she could to run. "Not even a word of thanks for the man who saved your ungrateful, unworthy life!? You bitch— Get the fuck back here! I'm sick of you Icons always fucking running away—!" Arthur was just a second from throwing a fireball at War's direction and causing a dangerous forest fire, yet the sight of Baldur's blood and Ferdiad's panic was enough to get him to call off the spell. A growl marked him pushing his tome back into his coat, but he couldn't stop looking in the direction of the trees... ...Lucy was no fool. She could hear the whole thing, and her warm feelings quickly turned to tears. Perhaps selfishly, she continued to cling to Mim, yet she let go upon hearing Ferdiad's words despite not wanting to.

War could only continue to give Baldur that same look of disappointment that she had trained on him for much of her participation in the earlier skirmish. “...I will not comment on you jumping to believing that I showed my legs to appeal to your gaze, but you were extremely foolish to heal my wounds— just as you attempted previously for that Rian general. I have no intentions of treating you as anyone other than my enemies, and that includes Pestilence once I depart. This is a one-time meeting— next we meet, I will stop at nothing to kill you. Such are my orders." Her gaze drifted towards Mim, continuing to be stern yet cool-headed. "Just as I've come to understand, you're among the wiser in the band of thieves. I acknowledge that even if Death refuses to. I will tend to Pestilence if she consents, and then I will be off before Death suspects anything." Lucy paused, her grip loosening on Mim. There, she made quiet steps, slow steps, snowflakes falling on her face yet not giving her any sense of urgency. At the same time, War knelt down into the snow— dampness on her dress not impeding her attempts at closing the height difference between her and Lucy. Before long, Lucy was close to War and at eye level despite standing up. "War... I'm... I'm sorr-" Before Lucy could get her thoughts out... War was squeezing her cheeks. Despite Lucy's suddenly panicked expression, War remained stern. "W-wah! Wh-What are you doing...!?" “You're off-color, even though I thought your escapade would help your state of mind. Mmm... I suppose that happens with attachment. At least it seems you're dealing with it more healthily than your brother. And your cheeks... Hm. You're being well-fed, but you're still not eating enough. I had a feeling you might still..." With a sigh, War let go of Lucy's now-sore cheeks— switching to tenderly rubbing them and giving them a gentle pat. Lucy looked a lot better, though still tense. “Very well. I've seen enough." War stood up, flipped Lucy around, and rubbed her shoulders as the two women of sin looked to Mim, Baldur, and a noticeably more flustered Arthur who had watched a little too much of War's affections. "She has a habit of storing away half of her meals because she believes that she is a burden and not worth being a mouth to feed. Don't worry— it's not an exclusive thing to Virtuous, she did this when traveling with us too. See to it that she clears her plate from now on." Afterwards, War let go of Lucy's shoulders and gave her a little push— prompting her to begin running back towards Mim. "The two siblings were treated more akin to animals than children in their home lives. You can see what that's done to the both of them— Death is beyond redemption, but Pestilence is not. See to it that you succeed where Death has failed."

Kane didn't go too far from the window— he was just doing a once-over on the sides. The front, where the group created by Mim was, did not seem to concern him very much. However, it was clear that his attention was starting to glaze over— only renewed once Lenore made her way towards him. "...No." Kane let out a sigh. "...I had thought our endeavors would spurn more capable people to act. Not that we're not capable, not in the slightest... I just didn't think we'd be laying siege to half of the castles in Purgus. It's... daunting." ——— Arthur looked away, his expression unreadable and avoidant. "...Mmh. I'll be fine, at least until we get to the castle. I didn't really know any of those people personally, I just... urgh." Arthur rubbed his temple, almost wishing he could reach through his skull and massage his brain directly. Lucy was a little more quiet in comparison to Arthur. Her head was down, unable to see the first flakes of snow beginning to fall outside of the outpost. Her silence was cut by the sound of snow falling off of the trees, masking the sound of flames in the forest. She took a moment, and then responded. "I... I don't know..." “Chin up, dear." Almost instantly, Lucy let out a yelp as she clung to Mim— Arthur was quick to pull out a tome he could actually use. Covered by the shades of the forest was War, weak yet still standing. Shoddy bandages covered the areas where Lysander tore into her with his magic. She took a moment before pulling her hood down, letting long red hair akin to the flames she flawlessly wielded on the battlefield come free. “I'm not here for long, and I come unarmed," War fanned out her dress— though it was generally tied up in the heat of combat, it now was let down to heavily restrict her movement. After fanning it out, she lets it fall— the fabric gently brushing against the snow. "I just wish to see Pestilence for one moment." War beckoned Lucy, her gaze turning to Mim and Arthur. "...If her new guardians permit it." Arthur paused, about to retort with something nasty before covering his lightly blushing face with his hand. Lucy remained paralyzed with fear, though seemed like her grip on Mim was relaxing a little.

With our first promotion, I would like to go... SIGNUPS ARE OPEN AGAIN WOOOOOOOO Since this isn't to replace anyone, no specific classes are really needed. Go nuts! Be a Scholar so you can take Lizaveta's book from her and make Baldur happy I'm just looking for one player once again, as long as said players don't mind joining when we are basically halfway into the campaign (though this bad boy's gonna be kicking for another year or so, I can already feel it in my bones)! The current setting, as well as where the player will be, is still in Ria. Specifically, since it's not so spoilery I can give a better idea of what to plan for: as Virtuous prepares to march on Ria Castle, there is a possibility that said character might drop in on them while they're still in the middle of camping out and waiting. Or perhaps they might be in the castle for some reason or another, whether a recruit in the Rian army or a prisoner of war... Many options are there! Just let me know what you have in mind with your backstory. I will post a Story So Far pastebin here hopefully sometime tonight! When making your character's sheet, please also note where they will be adding their +5% growths for First Class (keeping it separate, you don't start with the 5% after all), as well as the extra subcategory that they will be taking for the Level 10 bonus! Since you will be jumping up a few levels, you are also able to promote if you so desired before the chapter's beginning. Applications will be due exactly a week from now on February 18th (however, if story permits, I will be willing to give an extension if there is an emergency)! Feel free to post your sheet right away, quoting it if reusing a previous sheet. However, it is important that you message me your bio before you post the bio, omitting the bio wherever you wish to omit as necessary.

Lucy's panic was now starting to fade, the beginnings of a smile returning to her face. Adelaida, in the meantime, scoffed at Baldur. "Pah. Me, a traitor? I'll tell you what, the second everyone decided 'yes let's go fight for Perus and the goddamn clown brigade', I know Ivanovich woulda told me I made the right choice. Hell, even Richter would have agreed with me... Well, minus the fact that he's... you know, dead." With a groan and a hand on her face, Adelaida leaned against the exit to the throne room. "I don't usually need to talk to people, but if this Anvil guy knows his shit I'll have to see for myself." On the way, Arthur made his response to Baldur while keeping the tome firmly stuffed in his coat. "I'd normally be inclined to agree, but it has some kind of magical energy. I don't know jack shit about magic that isn't clearly spelled out for me, all I know is that burning this thing will probably be bad news."

Lucy was more than happy to squeeze Mim's hand. Their hands were both equally as tiny— a nice fit. She looked at Baldur hopefully, perhaps not quite the puppy-dog eyes Mim was hoping for but certainly a look that tried to be hopeful. Arthur, on the other hand, had a little jump once Mim took a hold of his hand. After a moment of hesitation, he gave a sigh. "Yeah... this interior decorating makes me sick. And this stupid book... it's not helping," Arthur groaned as he stuffed the tome in his robe, unaware of the fact that someone in the group would really, really like it. "Not even good for a laugh..."

Lucy loosened up a little bit and let her hood fall to her sides as Mim ruffled her hair. "O... Okay. I don't mind if they want to come... I like Orchid, and Crimson... um..." Lucy fiddled with her fingers as her eyes flitted towards Arthur, who was simply taking an interest in Baldur picking up the shards of Bellerophon. "W-well, since he's a prince and all, I'm sure he's nice when you get to know him, just like—" Lucy suddenly hiccuped, and then was silent.

"A... another codename..." Lucy slowly managed to unravel herself from her fetal position, though she still clutched at her knees. "I... I haven't had another one other than Pestilence, though... I..." Lucy tried to think for a moment, looking down at her boots. "...I could think about it... um... maybe we could take a walk to think about it?... If... if he's made his distance of course, I... don't want to get in his way, even if he isn't... mad at me."

Lucy could only watch Ferdiad leave as she slowly went back to her fetal position. This time, she was careful to let her hood cover the entirety of her face. "I'm... sorry..." Her voice was all that came out, muffled past her covered mouth.

Lucy was comfortable for a little while in her fetal position on the throne. The second she saw Ferdiad approaching, however, she attempted to sit up straight as if she were at a dinner table. However, the closer he came, the more she quickly rolled up into a small ball. Despite that, she tried to keep eye contact past her hood. "I-I don't know— We- They- Bro- Death would- He'd always stake out a different location to escape- he could be anywhere- I-I don't know, I'm sorry-" Despite her shakiness, Lucy tried her best to not cry.

Famine idly looks at Fey as she launches the bolas at him. The bolas tie his hands— it's enough to make him decide that counterattacking is pretty much a waste of time. with his now-tied hands. “No thoughts, no. Not in the mood to solve weird riddles, just get outta weirder projectiles." Mim took aim at Famine as he struggled— just barely getting him in the shoulder. Famine sighed. “Well, this was lame. Maybe if Perusian forces were a little more reliable, I'd survive five more seconds to actually do something. But it is what it is..." Famine took a breath, chanting a spell as Mim loaded up her second arrow... "I'll pass on that arrow." The second Mim's arrow would have collided, Famine and his horse vanished in a puff of smoke— the arrow slamming into the wall behind him. "Figures that they'd run..." Kane groaned, looking over with annoyance towards the Perusian troops. They all look towards where Famine would have stood, and bolted out of the broken windows. "Damn it... At least we've hopefully wounded them enough to get them off our backs for a bit, but now we're gonna have to stop and rest..." "Great, we done yet?" Adaleida rolled her eyes, looking back at the charging group. "Hey, you fucking traitors, your Perusian friends pissed off! So why don't you all go do me a solid and piss off yourselves?" After a brief pause, the group was quick to wheel around and book it. VICTORY! Kane quickly took out two of Famine's antidotes. "Someone administer these to Ficus and Scarlet— Quickly. I don't want to call Death on any bluffs especially when Famine himself was saying he was likely to bust out his more permanent poisons. I'm going to have a quick look around to make sure nobody else is coming." Kane was quick to vault himself out of the broken window. Lucy decided to sit on the throne in a very un-royalty-like manner, opting to curl up into a fetal position and rest her head on the armrest. Arthur, on the other hand, opted to rest his own head— on a wall. At the very least he wasn't slamming his head on the wall.

Ferdiad's blade crashed down on the Spy's head, all morals that he once had completely forgotten. Afterwards, a hefty sum of wealth finds its way on the ground— whether to be picked up by Ferdiad or neglected and picked up by another member of Virtuous. Ferdiad obtains 2500 Gold! Lenore hurls a knife at Famine— it would have stuck him in the shoulder had he not raised his tome just a bit to catch it in the bindings. He takes a swing with his tome— sending the knife back to the floor and hurling a sudden beam of moonlight hitting her directly in the stomach. “You know, I'm getting really sick of knives after I developed this rasp because of one. Orchid over there might know a thing or two about that considering he likes to rub it in, but I'm not a hundred percent certain. How about trying to stab me with a sword for once? Some token heroes you guys are— only guy with a sword here is Mr. Blood Knight over there." War kept her guard up as Lysander disappeared into the crowd. Unfortunately for her, it wasn't quite enough as she was pelted with a bombarding of spells... Godiva managed to bring Shin back up from the brink of death. However, he still felt nauseous as if the healing didn't do much besides get him back on his feet... Shin recovers +11 HP! Shin is back up! In the meantime, as Lysander was pelting War from afar, Arthur was over finishing the job with the Spy... Arthur managed to snatch the Spy's tome with the Wind spell as it bounced back to him. He clutched the tome in his other hand, whipping around to Lysander. "Hmph, would have rather killed that bastard Siegmund... You! Marvel! Is that all you got? You will take her out and that is final!" Arthur presses the assault! Lysander moves again! "What's this... it seems to have some sort of magical energy, but it's also just... a book..." Arthur flipped through the tome, his frustration at Siegmund quickly being replaced with confusion at the book. "Jesus, don't these people have any basic understanding of politics? Even if they don't know shit about the Marks..." Arthur noticed the dust on the cover, brushing it off. "...'The Manifesto of the Peasantry'? Really? Who the hell reads this shit?" Arthur obtains Manifesto (Ultraviolet)! All Lysander needed was that extra boost... War's grip on her bow began to slip as the repeated attacks began to really dig into her. “Ngh... Pestilence..." War looked over at the throne, but didn't get too long of a look at Lucy before Famine snapped his fingers and War vanished in a puff of smoke. Lucy winced. “Really, Marvel? I know it takes a lot to actually get me to have fun nowadays, but that was boring as shit. But I guess whatever works for Virtuous." Famine rolled his eyes, looking around the room. "One on thirteen doesn't seem like decent odds, but what the hell, I'll ride it out. Maybe you'll all prove the laws of basic mathematics wrong." EXP: (124/100) *LEVEL UP!* Stats

“It's all one can do in this damn cold," War idly added in response to Godiva, still more concerned with Famine's sudden change of demeanor and how the battle would turn. Thankfully, despite Godiva's difficulty with her burns, she manages to help Lizaveta get back up! Lizaveta recovers 11 HP! Lizaveta is back up! Lucy tiptoed over to the throne, looking over at Godiva and Mim. She sighed, digging her heels into the ground as she tried to dance upon the throne. "I... have no right to be here..." Godiva and Mim move again! Kane was quick to follow up on the Spy's assault on him, zipping around and planting another dart right in the Spy's back. EXP: (83/100) Stats

Famine managed a small chortle despite his bored tone— clapping a few times in response to Mim. “Heh. Heheh. Not bad. Death likes to shit on your smack talk, but that's a pretty good heroic speech. I like it, I like it." He only managed a half-glance at Baldur. "That sucked ass, though. You need smack talk lessons. That was about as much effort as if I said 'hey you're welcome for the dead parents'. Also you're welcome for the dead parents. Or whoever I killed that left you very sad and easy to glare at. Parents usually make for the easiest tragic backstories, though."

“Heh. I'd like to see that. All it takes is one good poison to break a tiny little body like yours, potions and cures be damned. But sure, try me." A void of dark magic surfaced around Famine's fingertips. "It'll make things at least a little bit interesting for once if you could even hope to put a scratch on me. One that isn't half-assed, mind you," Famine added as his lazy gaze flitted towards Baldur.

“..." War said nothing in response to Mim, disapproval still tinging her expression. Death was already getting bogged down by all the repeated attacks— it was inevitable that the lance went right through him before he could even retort. A simple eye twitch, looking down at the stab wound as his body quaked... "Wh... what?" "Damn it... Why!? How are these... These fucking nobodies doing... anything to me!?" "Well, you know, it's kinda natural to go for the strongest guy first. Or is it a case of picking on the little guy?" "I don't wanna hear shit from you, Famine, get me the fuck out!" Famine shrugged, chanting a spell as Death's cold glare looked down at Mim. "Laugh all you want. Throw your petty insults. But know that one day, somewhere, I will break-" Death vanished in a cloud of dark smoke. "Oops. Shoulda let him finish. Uh... Hey!"Famine waved to Mim's direction rather enthusiastically atop his horse. "One day he's gonna break you and it's gonna like, suck. Like really bad... Anyways! I'm sure he'll be really happy if he learns we killed them, right War?" “...Not any longer. You know he won't be satisfied with that anymore." War's disappointed look towards Baldur was now aimed towards the ground. "Oh, okay! Then we'll beat them up really bad, say we didn't get around to killing them and that he can just kill them in their sleep! Perfect! Oh, hey, Pestilence, it's okay to come out now! You know he's gonna find out one of these days, right?" Lucy didn't respond outside of teary eyes, peeking around her pillar while shaking as if she were in the coldest regions of Ria. "...I... I didn't get to... I'm a... c-coward..." "You kidding me? He would have gone insane! Of course, not at you, but at everyone in this general vicinity. Probably me too because he'd probably think I had something to do with it. Can you imagine? Me? A lying, conniving backstabber who would let his precious sister escape? Imagine..." War looked at Famine with a glare. A sigh escaped his bandana as his vision darkened. He reached up to his face, unraveled the bright cloth and let it fall to the floor next to his horse. “Fuck it. Death can go shove that brand new rod up his ass even farther up there. I am going to enjoy being the one to kill as many of you as possible." War's eyes narrowed at Famine, her glare now turning into something more of confusion than anything else. Regardless, she kept her stance steady and attentive despite the lack of a leader. Lucy, in the meantime, decided that hiding behind the pillar was the most productive course of action for the time being. "We're not out of the woods yet— Keep your guards up!" EXP: (77/100) Stats
