I couldn't see a "praise" section, so I'll put it here. The place with the childish drawings? 10/10 fantastic. I absolutely love it. Beyond awesome to the max. Whoever did this, you are great. Oh, and on a technical level it looks pretty impressive, too. (I mean the layout. The character involved is still... not to my liking.)

Final Gambit minor description error
Risakisa replied to Risakisa's topic in Official Rejuvenation Club's Discussions
Well, yeah. Hence the thread title "minor description error". Anyway, to the mods, the bug reporting page is really not ideal for pointing out these sorts of things. I just posted about another minor error- Punk Rock, this time- and I saw that there's no section to report foundational typos (ie typos regarding abilities, skills, etc.). Not a big deal, obviously, especially since the in-game description is entirely useless. But still. I mean, really. How much better would this description be if it didn't have a typo? -
I just saw this topic and decided to respond with my thoughts. It's an interesting thing to talk about, if a tad gloomy. Plus I think the idea of technology being what ends us to be very optimistic, and rather silly. IMO we're closer to the collapse than most people expect. Certainly closer than the development of functional AI or enhanced cyberwear. I see now, though, that I was somewhat necroing the post, and I apologize to the mods. Even so, this was on the front page of this section of the forums, so I reckon it's fine.

Ummm what?

Yes and no. Yes, as a species we'll survive. No, as a society we will not. Given current reproduction trends in the developed world, our intelligence in a few generations will not be high enough to maintain our societies; we'll literally be too dumb to operate the various machinery we use to keep the lights on. Furthermore, as intelligence is heavily associated with things like impulse control, aggression, etc., the coming generations will be more violent and irresponsible. Which will further hamper the maintenance of civilization. Optimistically, we might have an average IQ of 80. But it'll probably go lower. This has happened to other civilizations in the past, and will happen to civilizations in the future. Essentially, when life is hard and difficult, smarter people are more likely to successfully reproduce. This gradually increases average intelligence, as the smarter people replace the dumber people. Eventually, though, we become too smart; life becomes too easy, and smart people no longer feel the base instinct to reproduce (and have access to contraception, and know how to use them). The dumber people of society, being more instinctual and less able to use contraceptives, will start to become a bigger part of the society. And, eventually, the average intelligence will be too low to maintain the civilization created by the intelligent people, and so the society collapses. Life will again be difficult, and so we're back to selecting for intelligence. The cycle continues. There are other factors, such as a good medical system means that more genetically unhealthy people successfully reproduce, which means that overall health declines once society is intelligent and wealthy enough to sustain it. Mother nature really likes eugenics. She wants to kill off the weak and unhealthy. She's uncaring, brutal, and callous, but ultimately she improves species to better suit the environment. We humans, being relatively kind and compassionate, create for ourselves a dysgenic environment. We can only sustain sustain that for so long as we outsmart mother nature. And we don't outsmart her for long with the dysgenic environments we love to create. It's kind of funny, to be honest; the only way to avoid nature's brutality is to do it to ourselves. Which kind of defeats the point: why live in an intelligent society if that society is brutal and uncaring? Sure, those who get to live and reproduce will be smarter, richer, and healthier, but the moment we use our capabilities for the things we want (ie taking care of people) we're back on the road to disaster. I could go on, but you get the point. And, yes, evolution applies to humans, and yes that includes the brain. Things are as they are, regardless of one's feelings on the matter.

People seem to be using this forum for things other than introductions. Is it just so dead that nobody looks here, not even the mods? Well, guess I'm a necromancer now. Spooky.

Swimming around looking for that poliwag, and somehow got stuck here. Can't move, can't swim, proper stuck. I teleported myself with the debug menu, so not a big deal for me. But it might be for others, so.. yeah.

What takes the most time when making fan games, and why?
Risakisa replied to Risakisa's topic in Fan-game Exposé
"The actual development program, however, is still from 2005" ..jeez. Time to crowdfund the development of a better one? I wouldn't mind tossing a few bucks into a pot to hire people to make an open-sourced program that makes developing pokémon and pokémon-like games easier. I get that there's some legal copyright nonsense regarding actual pokémon games, but funding a program that has no copyrighted stuff should be legally a-ok. But I'm glad to hear that the tools are improving. And I'm especially glad to hear (or infer) that they'll be available for others. It'd be super swell if more fan-games possessed the technical excellency of reborn & rejuvenation, and if the tools are better then the work is easier and so more people can get their hands dirty. -
Making a pokémon fan game is a lot or work. A lot, I assume, tedious and/or hard and/or frustrating work. Months and months between updates for many games, often extending the game by relatively few hours. I don't participate in making games, but I am still curious. What is it that takes the most time, why does it to do, and does it need to? Are the tools insufficient? Is every team re-inventing the wheel? From the consumer's PoV, making a pokémon game looks mostly like making the maps, placing objects, choosing what happens when you interact with them, and so on. The floor looks like this, here's an impassable object, here's a door leading to Area092, here's a trainer and if you move into the areas in front of him then that will trigger a text event followed by a battle using these mons, defeating him causes another text event followed by reward, and so on. After making all the foundational stuff, of course. This is what happens when adding another chapter. In other words, a lot of the same over over and over again, with variations in detail but not general concept. I know that, obviously, there's more to it, there's special triggers and flags and things to remember and there's often various events that are not battles and/or text. If I am right, and this work takes up most of the time, or at least a lot of time.. isn't it possible to streamline the process? Some tool or kit or method to make it easier for devs to blaze through this process? I think we'd all benefit if making fan-games was easier and/or simpler and/or quicker. Obviously if the big time-sink is writing, polishing, balancing, etc. then that can't be improved a whole lot through mechanical changes.

Rejuvenation V12 Pokémon Location Guide
Risakisa replied to Alex's topic in Official Rejuvenation Club's Guides & Resources
I'd like to thank you, but.. jeez. Having things like "Mewtwo: NO!!!!!!", "Bagon: :]", and "Riolu: It's a secret!" is just obnoxious. Make it a spoiler if you want, but intentionally leaving out sections of a guide is what is often called a dick move. -

Chrysalis "puzzles"
Risakisa replied to Risakisa's topic in Official Rejuvenation Club's Discussions
If anyone wants to do this bullshit puzzle for me, that'd be grand. And I'm not sure which file/s are required, but I think these two should be right. I'll post again once I see those allegedly-worse chapter 8 puzzles, provided someone saves me this time. (and while I don't remember, it's very likely that I've named some 'mons something immature, vulgar, and/or offensive. I'm not posting examples, obviously, but still.) I really need some help
Risakisa replied to YellowGal's topic in Official Rejuvenation Club's Discussions
All of the ones that require timing and swift movement. Like the ones in the mansion; where you get chased through a maze and the one where you need to push statues while being chased. And whatever comes after that, because I quit the game after trying the statue-pushing "puzzle" too many times. -
I really need some help
Risakisa replied to YellowGal's topic in Official Rejuvenation Club's Discussions
Would be super cool if someone made a mod or edit that removed all those "puzzles" that rely on speed and accurate movement etc. instead of simply figuring them out. Would make the game playable. -
13.5 Status Discussion Thread
Risakisa replied to Jan's topic in Official Rejuvenation Club's Discussions
Would be nice if the speed-based "puzzles" were made optional or skipable. That'd be a massive QoL improvement, since it'd mean I could actually play the game. -
Chrysalis "puzzles"
Risakisa replied to Risakisa's topic in Official Rejuvenation Club's Discussions
If I had nothing else to do, sure. But since there are other things, even other pokemon games, that I could do, I don't see why I should spend however long doing something this incredibly frustrating and obnoxious. Especially since there's going to be at least one more that's even worse. And I disagree with it being easy. It's simple, but not easy. At least not for me. If it were easy, I wouldn't consider it this frustrating. -
Chrysalis "puzzles"
Risakisa replied to Risakisa's topic in Official Rejuvenation Club's Discussions
Great to hear that there's an even worse one later on. Makes me feel even better about not playing this anymore. And for some of you: I mentioned that there are save points in the maze. That implies that I knew about them and used them. And, yes, it makes the maze less poop. It's still poop, though. I'd rather do one of those horrible picture puzzles, where there's one empty square you move around. Those are horrible, but they're not frustrating on the same level. -
I'm not even going to try to be constructive. I hate these "puzzles". They're obnoxious and frustrating. Simple, sure, but frustrating and obnoxious. The maze was bad enough; turn off fast mode and sprint, following the red vines. Except that where the red vines were was often guesswork. And then the actual chasing bit was obnoxious and annoying, but at least there were a few places to save, so it wasn't a complete reset when you get caught. But the statue chasing bit? No. Just.. no. God-awful. Nudge the statues onto the right colour tile, then get the monster to run into the center. And if the monster touches you, you get reset. And you're on a timer. I COULD do it, but it'd take quite a while. And it'd be frustrating. And you know what? I'm just not going to do this. Especially if there are more "puzzles" like this. 0/10 I'm not playing anymore. (addendum: tried to make this topic with the title "The Chrysalis "puzzles" suck", but it wasn't getting posted. Could be lag, or a bug, or you're not allowed to make a topic that includes the word "sucks" in it. Apologies if this gets double-posted)

Facing lots of lag and slowdowns.
Risakisa replied to Eyeshun's topic in Official Spork Club's Topics
This is very unfortunate. The lag is quite drastic, coming from other games from this website. :-/ -
SIGH. While I appreciate that the authors are queer, or queer-obsessed, and I find Cain to be my favourite character in any pokémon game ever.. "Xe said that xyr Gym was at a port." I'm sorry, but.. SIGH. I mean, yeah, some of us don't feel terribly masculine of feminine, and some people find themselves constricted by gender nouns. But.. xyr? Xe? This sounds like a 4chan troll to be honest. What's wrong with just using they/them? I just.. christ, I'm getting old. I don't know why this bothers me. I know it shouldn't, but it's just.. gah. Makes me want to use profanity. What the heck even is "xe"? What in the what-what-what-WHAT is going on. I'm confused. And frustrated. And a bit drunk, it must be said. But still. Look, the writers can do whatever they want. That's their right, and they make a good story & game, so whatever. But this bit, this tiny little bit. I just.. I'm at a loss for words. I'm not quite a senile old man, but feel free to think of me as such. Gods know I feel like it right now.

Thanks for the reply. Glad I'm not missing out on too much, then, by losing. (And unless these points will introduce bonus.. friendship.. with Cain, I don't think I'll worry too much about it )

Playing through the game blind, and I stumbled upon this hecker of a meanie. I read somewhere that the story changes if you actually beat him. If so, how much of the story changes? Is it just a minor quip to acknowledge that you know how to cheese down a single 'mon, and then everyone moves on, or something more drastic?

Save game works. I'm going to use it to walk around, see if I can get it to freeze. -ADDENDUM- Well, that didn't take long. Walked out of the gym, and went south until I found a gatehouse that led somewhere else. I got into the gatehouse, but the game froze when I tried to zone into whatever's on the other side.
-
My computer is more than enough to handle this, unless it's somehow a hundred times more demanding than any other fan-game. But, yes, I do have other stuff running, and I'll try to have the window be "small". -ADDENDUM- Tried your save file, this time with the "small" window. Same (lack of) results. -ADDENDUM 2 (because multi-posting is bad)- If you're willing to be super thorough in testing it, could you perhaps send me a save-file that's past that opening area, and/or re-download the files and seeing if you get a freeze there as well? If you can get through on a brand-new download, it'd at least confirm that it's not the file-sharing website that corrupted some file, and if I can run a save file that's beyond it, that'd confirm that whatever the problem is, it's on that area.
