Sutoratosu
Which is why their all written down for me. every last one of them that are planned or have been planned in the past. I internalize their information as I draft their final sets. And this goes for both brothers. Though it helps that one of them only has one nicked team member. Every change is recorded though. I got me a record sealed in a little black book. That's when you KNOW the amount of boredom is too damn high... when you hyper-focus on shit and go above and beyond just to keep yourself occupied. Case and Point- everything I've been doing and planning with Mareek and his team for the past month or so... this is quite frankly, the most active RP on here that I'm involved in, so... yeah, it's how I fight the boredom because it's the most readily available method. Jory
Alrighty guys, your super totalitarian regime beloved co-hosting pair and our beloved Supreme Overlord Chimchain (may his reign be blessed with prosperity) have come up with a way to speed things along a little bit as far as tournament battles go. I know that I as a participant have been getting a little antsy because of how long it's been taking, so starting Day 2 of the tourney we're going to be implementing a system that should hopefully help us streamline the process a little bit. Essentially, the biggest problem we've been having is that the Arena only has one field (pshh nice going Chim). The way we've developed to combat this is simple. We're going to be opening up an "Queued-Up Battles" thread in addition to the normal IC threads for each chapter. The tournament specifically will work as follows: Each battling pair, whether it be PC vs. PC or PC vs. NPC, will begin posting in the QUB thread once the match-ups are announced by Chim. To make our jobs a little easier, please title each of these posts with {A bracketed, bolded headline with both your character's name and his/her/xyr opponent's}. During this time period, you guys will still be posting non-battle related things in the IC thread (such as eating, investigation, conversation, shipping, card-playing, porn-watching, and movement). The most important part is coming next, so I'm gonna make it big and red and bold so that when someone inevitably fucks up I get to ream them out for it. WHEN YOUR CHARACTER'S BATTLE IS CALLED IN THE IC THREAD, YOU MUST MAKE A POST IN WHICH YOU REPORT TO THE ARENA AND TAKE THE FIELD. AFTER THIS POST, YOU MAY NOT POST AGAIN FOR 24 HOURS. This will help us avoid confusion and avoid conflicts in the timeline of the RP. During this 24 hour period, one of the co-hosts (probably me) will type up a recap post for the entire battle that gives a shortened version complete with highlights and commentary from whoever is in the booth at that time. Now, I know what you're thinking: What about the first battle? Well, the fun part is that whoever's battle is called first will take the spotlight in the IC thread. This will give the other battles enough time to finish before we start the recap process. Now, for the recap of the Recap Strategy: 1) Battle Thread and IC Thread are active simultaneously. Battles in Battle Thread, IC action in IC thread. 2) All battles occur simultaneously in the Battle Thread. This has nothing to do with the timeline of the IC thread, so post whenever you can and make sure it has a title. 3) Once your battle is called, have your character report to the field. Then you may not post for 24 hours. 4) After the 24 hours has elapsed, a recap post will appear for your battle. You may then resume normal IC action. 5) The first battle called for each tourney stage will occur in the IC thread. Presumably this applies to the Finals as well. To clarify a good point that Dobby brought up, this in no way affects friendly battles. Feel free to use the IC thread for those, as the likelihood that they will hold up the RP is slim to none. If you have any questions, please please please post them below in the OOC thread so that everyone can see them, as if you have that question it is likely others do too. Also, Chim and Dobby are poopy nerds <
Veterans Azeria Posted April 6, 2015 Veterans Share Posted April 6, 2015 Interesting but i'm pretty sure i'm gunna get confused at one point or another after getting used to the current system lol. I agree there Jory
Sutoratosu
So... about the 24 hour thing. Which thread does that apply to, the Plot Related shiz or the Regular IC? OR does it apply to both? I think perhaps you should come up with a mock example just to help clarify it, cause I'm sure I'm not gonna be the only one confused about it... Also, I presume this system will be put in place in all future tournies and such as well?
Commander
I like the current system, but I kind of can understand why you want a different system. I think it might just be easier for you do this instead: Let the people who aren't going up right now battle through PMs, but allow Chim, Jory, or Dobby view it so that they can spectate before posting a summary in the IC. For every battle, let at least 24 hours pass before the next one gets summarized that way the IC people don't have to speed along. There's something else I recommend: DO NOT LET YOUR BATTLES DRAG ON! I mean I could've definitely found reasons to extend my battle with Darklight, but at that point, I knew I lost so I just accepted it. No more than 8 rounds (16 posts) for a Pokemon, but 4-6 rounds is plenty. That'll help speed things up too. Edit: I'm also a bit confused on what you guys are talking about. I got some picture, but I'd just want more clarification on the times stuff. Edit 2: I don't really like the 24 hour idea. Not to be a critic, but for someone like me, that could be the difference between getting a battle done in two days or a week.
Jory
Basically, imagine the matchups being posted as a starting gun. 1) At that moment EVERYONE can post in the Battles thread. Expect it to be a "clusterfuck" (Dobby's words). 2) The 24 hour period only applies to the IC thread. However, you should be done with your battle by the time your recap is up. That's why the first battle is conducted normally. It should act as a barometer for how far along you guys should all be in your battles. 3) Yes, all future tournaments will be conducted in this manner provided it runs as smoothly as I anticipate. 4) Specifically to Commander, I really like your thought on the PM matter. However, there's only one problem: RIP Inbox. The Battle thread serves an identical function, but allows us to keep it all in one place. And that post limit is an ideal. If people are rapid-fire posting for the first 2 days, then the number of posts shouldn't really matter. It's more an issue of "I don't want to wait 3 weeks for those two to finish battling". Just keep your battles to a reasonable IRL timeframe. 5) At Faust's behest, I'm going to post an example. Chim: MATCHUPS ARE AS FOLLOWS Jory vs. Chim Dobby vs. Faust Your Mom vs. Cthulu Jory and Chim's battle begins in the IC thread using traditional format. Ideally this will take under a week. By the time the first battle is done, all other battles should also be done or wrapping up in the Battle thread. After their battle is done, the next will be called. Dobby and Faust's characters report to the Arena, then they do not post again in the IC for 24 hours. 24 hours later (or whenever a host is next available), a recap post is made and the next battle is called. Dobby and Faust exit the Arena. Your Mom and Cthulu report to the Arena. Rinse and repeat for all subsequent battles.
Support Squad Felicity Posted April 6, 2015 Support Squad Share Posted April 6, 2015 This allows us to run more battles at once regardless of how many arenas we have and cut down on the queue of matches, getting them out of the way much faster. Veterans Azeria Posted April 6, 2015 Veterans Share Posted April 6, 2015 (edited) Sir,I must ask why cthulu would do battle with mere mortal like my mom when he can simply destroy her! A battle should take around 2/3 days and up to 5 if someone's really busy that week, but that could vary depending on certain circumstances lol. But lately we've been running into problems where the last people to battle end up waiting weeks between important posts, which is kind of unacceptable when we're trying to move to the end of Chapter 3. Commander
If you're going to do this, I suggest not starting them all at once, but one at a time in a succession of 1-3 days (I'd prefer 3). I mean I do enjoy skimming through some of those battles, but with a system like that, you can forget it. This would work better because then the 24 hours thing wouldn't have to be put in place and it'd kind of feel like a linear order instead jamming it all at once. This just means tha we still have a bit of a queue, something we're trying to get rid of. The idea is essentially trying to facilitate a dump for battles, however they want to be written, so that we can get them out of the way ASAP rather than having them stack up. It will be messy, which is why we insist in labelling your posts. Furthermore, the 24 hours thing is a substitute for the amount of time a PC would be away from the IC for a battle and also allows us hosts time to compile a highlights reel of the battle. EDIT: Strats (You have too many names dude) example is P much spot on
