Lord Chespin
Hey! If it's not too much to ask of, I'd like to know if somebody could give me some tips for getting through the third gym (the real third gym, not Corey's bait-and-switch gym). My team keeps getting sweeped by her starting 'mons; I haven't even survived long enough to see her Volbeat. Are there any Pokémon, items, or strategies that I could use to make the fight a little easier? Any advice you could give would be welcome! TurboAura
Well, first off you should be telling us what your using, so we know what to work with.
Azure NightStriker
The ponyta you get from the Team magma and Aqua side mission and pachirisu will really help in this fight.
Lord Chespin
I'm currently using a Level 31 Frogadier, a Level 30 Fearow, a Level 31 Swirlix, a Level 30 Graveler, a Level 27 Mankey (soon to be a Level 30 Primeape), and a Level 31 Persian. Should I swap one of them out for something else?
Omega_Ra1der
Two things, TRAIN,and lead off with fearow and graveler or trek all way back to the underground net to net a zubat if you don't mind long waits.
drakonpaul
If i remember correctly Shelly took me like 5 or more tries to defeat. I kept resetting to understand what the heck was killing me all the time and it was her Illumise's Confuse Ray after all. You really have to use super effective moves espec against her Yanmega. That means powerful fire and flying poke/moves. Use elemental monkeys if u want, they learn Acrobatics at lvl 31 and can have taunt for the annoying confusions. My pampour wrecked her Yanmega with Acrobatics, i used Taunt on her Illumise for the confuse ray and i also used Light Screen with my Braixen to take the Bubblebeams from the Masq. Rest was just luck
Lost Lore
I would get a Fire-type, were I you- it makes this fight a lot easier. There are a handful available to you right now: Growlithe, Litleo (which is starting to lose its usefulness about this point, but it's still there) and Numel (actually probably the best because it can kill the field with Lava Plume iirc) come to mind. There's also Vulpix, but while this is the point where that Klinklang becomes a good deal more manageable to take down, it still requires a good deal of planning. Drought and turning the field to a Burning one via Flame Burst kind of murders her, though.
Arkhi
She leads off with Masquerain and Illumise, I believe. I, myself, put both to sleep with my Venomoth, buffed up my Clefairy with Minmize/Cosmic Power, and used Stored Power to sweep.
TurboAura
For your sake, I hope you kept Smack Down on Frogadier. That itself should be helpful.
Phlytosion
Rock slide is your friend here. Numel, Roggenrola, Solrock, Lunatone, and Trapinch can all learn Rock slide before the level cap in the gym.
Foamy
The last time I fought Shelly was in Episode 11, so I dunno if my advice will be of much use. I just used Speed Boost Combusken, though, because I'm a lame douchebag.
Lord Chespin
Thanks for all of your help! I guess I'll have to get myself a Numel, then!
Gaunt
How did you manage to lose against her first 2 Pokemon when you have a Rock and a Flying type? Well anyway like everyone said get a Fire type and burn her field then you should manage (i think)
