Vertex74
(Sorry for bad English) Please allow me to briefly introduce the background before moving onto the main focus... As many of you might know, Hong Kong was once a English colony and after the handover in 1997, it became a SAR(Special Administrative Region) of China under the principles of "One country, two systems", "Hong Kong people ruling Hong Kong", and "High degree of autonomy", etc. Back in the colonial days, the head of HK is called Governor and after the handover to China, the Governor got replaced by the "Chief Executive". Chief Executive is the highest ranking official in Hong Kong(though he has no legislative and judicial powers), in other words, he is the "President" of Hong Kong... Here comes the problem...... Since the handover, the Chief Executive had never been elected through universal suffrage, instead, merely 1200 people who belongs to the "Election Commission" get the right to vote. The members of the "Election Commission" are mainly supporters of the Chinese government, therefore, the Chief Executive they chose are actually just a puppet of the mainland government...... Before the handover, China promised a universal suffrage of Chief Executive. After many times of delaying, the universal suffrage was finally settled to be on the year 2017... However, the Chinese central government recently announced the arrangements for the 2017 universal suffrage and many people who seek democracy was shocked... According to the government of China, Hong Kong citizens get the right to vote for the Chief Executive. BUT, before people vote, the Election Commission decides the candidates of the election... In other words, the so called "2017 universal suffrage" in Hong Kong is FAKE. In 2017, the Election Commission could just simply choose two to three puppets and let Hong Kong citizens "choose whoever they wanted"... There were a number of protests, but all to no avail... This week, the university students(and even some secondary school students) organized a strike, on Friday night, the student surrounded the Government Headquarters, without using any violence, of course... The students simply requested the government to respond to them...... The government responded with pepper sprays and more...... By the moment I wrote down these words(28th September, 01:14am, GMT+8), the student are still striving for democracy around the Government Headquarters, but violent, unwarned, expulsions were already carried out several times by the Police... I honestly don't know how much longer can the students continue to fight for democracy, for justice, for the future of "the Pearl of the Orient"...... Last night, the leader of the students, a 17-year-old boy named 黃之鋒(Wong Chi Fung Joshua, aka Joshua Wong) was arrested by the Police...... The law enforcers forbid Joshua to bail, raided his house and took many things...... This, could be the future of every democracy fighters in Hong Kong...... As a Hong Kong citizen, I am screaming for help. Anyone who is reading this, please do a simple thing... https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/support-hong-kong-democracy-and-prevent-second-tiananmen-massacre-hong-kong/dfdCpQZz Please, click the link above to help not only the students, but also the ideas of democracy, and the prospect of 7 million Hong Kong citizens......! Also, if you don't mind to do a bit more, please copy everything I wrote here and paste them on other forums, facebook pages, twitter, etc. Everyone democracy fighter in Hong Kong will definitely be grateful to your assistance... Finally, allow me to end my words with a song, it's a song representing the spirit of Hong Kong citizens who seek for a bright future... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7Zt639NdUM In prolonged darkness, People awaits the arrival of a dazzling dawn...... 羅云瓚(Vertex74) 28th September 2014 Edited September 27, 2014 by Vertex74
Neo
I had signed this petition a while back. I think what the Mainland govt. is doing is really greasy, man. With them losing their grip over in Mainland China, they want to do everything they can to suppress democratic movements in HK, but I don't see it workin' out for them. Zephyrus the Priestess
I feel your pain. Sort of. In terms of mainland China basically being a dick. After all, the Scarborough Shoal dispute hasn't been settled yet and China continues to bully us over our land, as well as (if I remember correctly) Vietnam's. Signing this; hope it does at least some good. 小心 朋友 陳眙仁
MotherGlitcher
I expect nothing less from the Chinese govt, even though such efforts usually end up accomplishing little, I hope it does pave way for more effective and collaborative stratagems from the citizens of HK as well as mainland China in the future. Not only are the ethical issues that the Chinese govt fail to tackle appropriately, but their economy has a lot of empty sink holes that will devastate the populace of China eventually if they continue as such, and by extension, the world economy as a whole. The east Asian political scene requires much improvement, but as a system, it has stubbornness issues with change as its usual characteristic, alas, I hope its citizens take a more collective initiative and higher hope that the Chinese govt will one day listen to its citizens. Deleted User
It's all about the economic control China as much as any of the other world powers these days realizes that true large scale wars are becoming a thing of the past and the battleground is controlled by who has the most monetary assets. It's too bad the world is full of so many people who want to control others for their own benefit.

Zephyrus the Priestess
Found some "interesting" photos...... (This topic is finally Pokemon related) one of the banners starts out "we are not"... not... Pokemon? (really bad guess here; you know you're a disgrace if you're at least half-Chinese and can't read majority of the characters up in the pictures)
Vertex74
one of the banners starts out "we are not"... not... Pokemon? (really bad guess here; you know you're a disgrace if you're at least half-Chinese and can't read majority of the characters up in the pictures) The content of the "banners without Pokemon characters" is not related to Pokemon... And the one you talk about says:"we are not flunkies" Some translation on the banners related to Pokemon: The one with Ash: "689, come out (and talk to us)" ( 689 is the nickname of CY Leung, HK's Chief Executive. And in China, we translate "Pikachu, I choose you!" into "Pikachu, come out! (from the Pokeball)" ) The one with Officer Jenny: "Officer Jenny please calm down" ( referring to the police using pepper sprays and tear gases ) The one with Chansey: "Medical station"
