Dragonz996
As some of you already know, I am creating a new server for my diehard fans so you can all spend more private time with me, yay! the soon-to-be-finished Magnitude League. Everything is fine, the scripts, settings, tiers and other stuff are all done. I've tested most of the commands and they work perfectly. The only problem is... I have no idea how to port forward. Even after I followed all the steps of some online guide I found, noone else other than the people with the same IP address as me can enter the server. So... can anyone who knows how to port forward help me?
Administrators Amethyst Posted February 28, 2011 Administrators Share Posted February 28, 2011 Well, the fact is, you might have internet like mine- If you're behind a Dynamic IP address and you can't make it static, you won't be able to port forward and you won't be able to run a server. This is why I had to have Nyu host it for me.
nyu
If you're behind a Dynamic IP address and you can't make it static, you won't be able to port forward and you won't be able to run a server.
There are ways around it. The server is hosted on a standard home connection, so it has a dynamic IP as well. I use No-Ip to handle the IP change. There's also DynDNS which does something similar. However, my IP changes so infrequently that I usually have to go click a button so they don't think my account is inactive. As for the topic, it's rather difficult to explain over the internet, espcially with so many different routers and whatnot. Grox was headed in the right direction from what little I read of that conversation. You need to open a command prompt and type `ipconfig` (sans quotes), you'll get results similar to:
Windows IP Configuration Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.2.15 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.0.2.2
The main thing you need out of this is your IP Address (v4 to be specific; nobody likes IPv6 yet), and probably the default gateway. At this point you want to open a webbrowser and point it to your default gateway, so using the above information I'd go to: http://10.0.2.2 . Hopefully it'll take you to your router's web interface (or ask you for a username/password, that's a good sign). What's the brand and model of your router? You're going to have to navigate this horrible site and figure out usernames and passwords (unless you know them already) to get into the web interface. In general, once logged in you'll want to look for something that mentiones Port Forwarding or Application Rules or something similar. You need to create a new rule to allow port 5080 for the IP address you got using ipconfig. All of this is rather vague, I appologize, but I'll be more specific once I know your router stuffs. Dragonz996
The brand is 2WIRE, model is 2701HGV-E When you go to the website of the Default Gateway, it brings you to a Gateway Summary right? I go to this website for my info: http://portforward.com/english/routers/por...n_NetBattle.htm
nyu
When you go to the website of the Default Gateway, it brings you to a Gateway Summary right?
Yeah, sounds right. Go ahead and follow the instructions on the link you have, as they seem mostly correct. However, when you get to the step where you are Adding/Editing a User-Defined Application, use the following information:
Application Name: Pokemon Online Protocol: TCP Port Range: From 5080 to 5080 Protocol Timeout: 86400 Map to Host Port: 5080 Application Type: None
I'm not positive that the Application Type is correct, as I can't see what the other choices are, but I'm not sure how much it'll matter in the end. Once you've finished everything, ensure that the server is running on port 5080 (that's the default, so if you haven't changed it then don't worry about it), and that any software firewall installed on your computer is also going to allow it access. At that point everything should work ... hopefully.
Administrators Amethyst Posted March 1, 2011 Administrators Share Posted March 1, 2011 Oh, Dragonz, you have the exact same brand of router I do. So if you can get it to work, I should be able to- but no matter what I've done in the past I never have been able to, so... good luck. nyu
Odd that it's using your internel IP. Are you attempting to join the server through the Registry or using some fancy Advanced Connection? Also did all those messages happen from the same login attempt or was that multiple tries? I've heard people complain that they can't join their own server, I'm not sure why that is, but maybe something similar is happening to you? Dragonz996
Its from the registry, and from the same single login attempt
