History of Brailen

Prepare for a serious text wall

---
Brailen was just a rock born of the universe like any other, no special relevance to it. it was just a rock, drifting through space until it settled in the orbit of a star, the third planet in a solar system, the two other planets balancing the gravitational pull and creating a solar system. A simple galaxy born of simple circumstance. No reason or desire or sentience behind it. Due to Brailens position in the orbit, it became an ideal place for development and after a long period of change, it became habitable. The various bits of debris scattered amongst the universe gathered, and basic lifeforms came to be on Brailen.
---
At some point, the planet had reached a point where it was brimming with life and creatures, with the smartest and most imaginative coming to rule thanks to the resourceful nature of their races. this was the race of humans of course. Can’t have a story without them.
---
There was another race that rivaled the humans, Being superior with their skills of inexplicable abilities though their names and lives were long lost. There are remnants of them, but nothing more than primitive temples. They weren’t exactly an omniscient race like most of fiction likes to pretend with their own Ancients.
---
As humanity grew, so did their culture and habitats. They spawned awesome cities and devices, even creating worlds and universes through the use of their language. Some created the idea of an omnipotent being and began worship. This idea spread until there were countless branches of worshippers, each with a different deity, though none proving stronger or more accurate than any other religion. Soon enough the Humans had created too much to keep track of. This point marked the beginning of records and the storing of information, the very first year in the calendar. Naturally alongside all of this creation and ingenuity there was conflict, destruction. Empires rose and fell, marking the history of Brailen like the commas and full stops in this very text.
Eventually, humans turned the creativity that made them so amazing to conflict, and wrought terrible machines and weapons that they eventually tore each other apart with. All the while, Brailen bore the burden of the warring humans, taking the toll alongside the remaining wildlife. These battles resulted in the near total reset of the human race, Brailen erupted in calamities that razed the landscape in response to the pollution of the weapons, destroying so much of what the humans had made. All the few remaining pockets of civilisation had was their language, the little amounts of knowledge from the memory of the few specialists that survived and the tales of their history, which were handed down in the few remaining pieces of literature and by word of mouth. Naturally, some of this knowledge was lost to gaps in between generations.
The humans sheltered in the temples that had been on Brailen for as long as anyone could remember, and learned to survive and live once more, but eventually they developed more than their long unused instincts. At some point, a few people developed abilities as strange and unique as the person wielding them. No one knew who was the first, but soon there was at least one of these people in every pocket of civilisation, if not more depending on how each group reacted. There was, of course, resentment from some and they rejected these people despite the fact that some of these abilities were as docile and helpful as simply urging a seed to grow.
---
These people came about because of their desire to survive and exposure to the old temples. Remember those things? With the second race?
---
The humans had scrabbled and clawed their way to creating civilisation, and in doing so rediscovered many things, and discovered a few more things that were overlooked during the first cycle of development thanks to the new abilities that were now nearly a regular part of life. Now, naturally religion had persevered throughout all of this time, and some acclaimed the people as gifts from their lords. Despite the malice from those that resented the gifted, and the mass amounts of sceptics who denied this, the name stuck and the people were dubbed the Gifted. The creativity of humanity didn't exactly shine that day.
Soon enough, alongside the government, various establishments were created to support the Gifted, to school them and find the more problematic Gifted a place in society
Eventually, the humans rebuilt, and flourished once more to a state of civilisation, though it was a far cry from their peak. And this is where the story begins, the year 5079, 2697 years after the “Reset” as people had refereed to it, lacking the desire to call it anything else.
But enough with these tales. They have made their place in history.
It’s time for our tales to do the same.

The Trevalus politics at the time

The politics of Brailen are governed by 3 officially recognised parties. The citizens of the city each vote every 5 years for a leading party that gains control over the military and police forces of the city and then each governs a segment of the city independently. The other two parties have the right to call another vote should the leading party be making decisions that harm rather than help the city.
Note: There are NO Gifted representatives or Politicians aside from the Headmaster of the School himself.
The Scales

These are the leading party and have been for the past 15 years. Popular with the people by way of maintaining the cities resources and doing a decent job of maintaining Law. The city has done alright in it's care, and the people are happy with this. Governs the Military Quarter and Merchants Quarter as the Leading party. Led by Miles Feroshe

The Shields

These are the self proclaimed "Peoples Voice". They want to improve living conditions and erase all crime and discrimination. Naturally, a lot of Gifted have faith in this party. They recently had some success when they managed to overturn a law on banning Gifted from the police force. Governs the School Quarter and is led by Jakob Navira.

The Swords

These are the people who believe the Cities resources and power should be turned to conquering more of the land owned by the various Savage clans and creatures roaming Brailen. Most in this party harbour a severe hatred for Gifted but there are some in this party more open minded. Many also suspect the majority of these politicians to be related to illegal activities in one way or another. Governs the Living Quarter and is led by Dramas Kolvick

Trevalus Quarters

Here you can find a simple overview of the 4 quarters of Trevalus. As said above, each Quarter is governed by a ruling party, but there may be individual organisations taking residence in the various quarters.
School Quarter

Governed by the Shield party, many Gifted take refuge here, both due to the School that most lived in being found here, and also because the living quarters found her are rather cheap and are decent living quarters. By no means is it a slum, there is a good amount of industry thriving here, making and selling their exports to other cities such as Secaranda and Praixis, the 2nd and 1st largest cities respectively. However, due to vandalism and sabotage from many prejudicial opposing forces, political and illegal both, they are forced to fight to maintain their economy here, but the people here are very accepting and kind to those in need. Mostly

Living Quarter

Governed by the Sword Party, this is a place rife with crime. However, the Sword party is heavily influenced, a secret to none, and so the law enforcement here are often one step behind, having their plans "overheard". Despite the crime here, or perhaps because, there is a decent economy, made with the exchanges of properties and the like. Also, some of the more, interesting, types of people can be found here, if one looks hard enough

Merchants Quarter.

Governed by the Scales Party, this is by far the most well off Quarter. Populated by Land lords and great businessmen alike, Crime s incredibly low here, though the occasional scandal occurs when some well off scrooge has his belongings pilfered. This is where the Merchants guild resides, led by the self proclaimed "Merchant King", Elion Grafella. If you need to find something without illicit means, this is where to go. Provided you have something to trade.

Military Quarter

This is where the military resides, guarding the most valuable of objects, that which was once used by the Humans before they tore themselves apart. Absolutely no crime is tolerated, and everyone residing here is on a strict regime. For a crime to be committed here is like a bird spontaneously learning to speak. Governed by the Scales Party currently, this is always governed b the Leading Party

In this Rp, you play as a Gifted, and I'm allowing you all to choose your own specific Gift, rather than give you all a set Gift I made. Do NOT Abuse this privilege, else I will hand you a Gift of my Choosing. Conversely, if you can't decide on one yourself, I have various Ideas I can hand you if you wish.

RULES

Respect
I am hosting this, I control the world, and I am doing this for us all to enjoy it. If that doesn't make me deserving of respect, then perhaps a PCs gruesome death does. Bear that in mind
Control
It is my world, I know the way it all works, and all the systems and what the characters will do. If you don't understand something ask, and I'll do my best to answer, but don't go assuming things. I reserve the right to have final say in anything that goes on. If I think a Gift is being abused or used in the wrong way, I will snap my fingers, and your Character may or may not overload with energy from the Gift. Another thought to keep...
Boundaries
Whilst this is a setting meant to allow you all to be more suish than is normally allowed, this is only in terms of combat. If I see a Sue personality or backstory, I will erase it from the world of Brailen with a Gift all my own.
Quality
I expect posts to be at least understandable, but the better quality posts there are, the easier it is to understand what went down and there are less misunderstandings. Besides, a good post is fun to write and read, so there should be no issues with this.

Accepted Characters:
Exlink32:

Name: Reyn Dipp

Gender: Male

Age: 21

Race: Caucasian

Appearance: 5, 9.

Face:

Spoiler

Personality: Shy, keeps to himself. When alone usually upbeat and cheery. Likes to explore around the city or the safe parts of the outside city. Tends to not speak much and is socially awkward.

Gift: Has the ability to sneak away from enemys as soon as they take their eye's off of him. So if an enemy keeps an eye on him he can't sneak away but as soon as they do take their eyes off of him it's like he vanished. Though only lasts for a short period of time.

Backstory: Born in the Merchants Quarter his family was part the Merchants Guild. Though a small fry compared to the bigger ones, Reyn didn't really get out much. As a kid his parents usually went to guild meetings or ran their shop. Reyn helped by cleaning the house but never really did much of the bartering. When he was done cleaning he'd go out for a walk around the market stalls or explore the safe parts of the outside of the city a bit. For some reason he was a chick magnet and many girls saw interest in him, though he never really felt it back. So when they weren't looking he'd sneak away unaware. Little did he know that he was a really good sneaker, though he never used it for anything bad.

Additional Details: He has many weird catch phrases and says them often.

Tacos

Name: Jackson Benedict

Gender: Male
Age: 23
Race: Black
Appearance: 6'5", gentle face, well built. More often grins than smiles, and more often smiles than frowns.
Spoiler
Personality: Kind-hearted and helpful, would give the shirt off his back for anyone. Loud and clunky, very cumbersome, and at some points, more harm than help in some cases. Once you get to know him, he is perhaps one of the nicest and funniest people you will ever know.
Gift: Telekinesis. The standard, pick things up, put them down. His current limit is at about 475 lbs.
Backstory: Spent his whole life in the Military Quarter with his parents and younger brother. He was enlisted in the military for about 4 years before he dropped it to pursue other options. He was never quick to make friends. But he would be incredibly friendly when he opened up to them. When he was very young, he helped his family in their restaurant with his gift. His parents kept is secret because they knew he was embarrassed about it, and they didn't know what would happen to him if anyone knew about it.
Additional Details: Doesn't like snakes, at all.

Annie

Name: Cara Rynguard

Gender: Female

Age: 24

Race: Latino

Appearance: (I'm assuming an image is fine?) 5'7

Large picture!

Spoiler

Personality: She is confident and manipulative, easily able to fake emotions and personalities to her advantage. Prefers to be alone. Expresses herself via music when alone, otherwise seems monotone unless needed (i.e seduction, persuasion et cetera.)

Gift: Cara possesses the ability to move within the shadows quickly, seemingly warping. Can also stay inside the shadows. All shadows are connected (i.e she can move from a shadow in the alleyway to her house.) She can only go to shadows in this way from places she has already been to.

Backstory: Cara grew up in the Living Quarter, and grew up oblivious to the harsh reality of the place she lived in. Her parents desperately tried to protect her from the horrible place she lived in, and for a while she truly believed the world she lived in was full of good and no evil. That is until she came back from school one day, finding her parents brutally murdered and lying across the floor, blood splattered across the wall and floor. Something changed in her that day. She cried, grabbed her fathers blade atop the fireplace, swearing to find the ones responsible for the evil deed and make them pay.

Additional Details: Is a hitman/assassin for hire. Will kill anyone, anything for sufficient pay.

Snap

Name: Kyrie Byrnes

Gender: Female

Age: 22

Race: Caucasian

Appearance: Average height (5'5) and average weight. Kyrie has very long and straight black hair and fair skin. Her face has a distinctive bone structure, angular, but fine and graceful. She has sharp, piercing eyes, one being blue and the other brown, but other than what was mentioned, the rest of her features are generic.

Personality: Byrnes is an adventurous and talkative young lady, she's very steadfast in her beliefs, but she knows when she is wrong (though one would have a hard time trying to get her to admit it). She may take jokes too far, but very rarely does she actually mean to offend or anger a person. If needed, she does know when to close her mouth and think, but that's only if she is needed to do so- other wise she is normally impulsive, loud mouthed and short tempered.

Gift: Kyrie can manipulate water of all three forms, liquid, gas or solid and can make it change in between those three states. It's exhausting for her to use her abilities for extended periods of time.

Backstory: Kyrie grew up in the Military Quarters with both of her parents and older and younger brothers. Her family was middle class and nothing really too exiting really came from her childhood (although she did get into quite a bit of trouble through some of her antics, being quite the trouble maker). Not many people know of her gift, but she doesn't keep it a secret if she's inquired about it.

Additional Details: She has a fear of being lost and is a very picky eater.

Stratos

Name: Lucille Blood

Gender: Female

Age: 21

Race: Caucasian

Appearance: 5"6, dark blond hair and cold, slate grey eyes

Spoiler

Personality: Lucille is a kind and generally calm young woman with a strong respect for those willing to stand by their word. Her temper is quite slow to build, but burning right to the core when it's finally ignited. Call it either Optimist or Naivety, but She believes that most individuals are genuinely good at the core of their beings, and is more than willing to give second chances, even at times when people may not deserve it. Do not be fooled, however, if one scorns her trust and proves her wrong about them one too many times, even she'll give up on them. Despite all her optimism in other people, she often worries about what may be beginning to happen to her older brother, Leon, a Staunch Supporter for the Swords Party who virtually preaches on and on about the validity and virtue of it's conquest oriented ideology whenever he can get a willing audience. She honestly doesn't see her blindness as much of a personal weakness.

Gift: Lucille is a Beast Whisperer, capable of controlling animals in her vicinity, "Convincing" them to obey her orders/ requests, whether they be verbal or mental, and is capable of reaching out with her mind and connecting with animals, sometimes being able to hear through their ears, smell through their nostrils, or even see through their eyes, as well as calm them if needed. Her ability requires a degree of focus that raises in direct proportion to the size of the animal she's controlling or trying to calm, as well as whether or not it is a carnivorous species. The more she attempts to exert influence over, the harder and harder it becomes to devote focus on any one in particular and instruct it. Currently she can only handle one animal at a time, and has a slightly easier time controlling Herbivores and Omnivores than she does with Carnivores.

Backstory: Grew up in the Merchant District and born to a Pair of Affluent Fur Traders independent from the Merchant Guild. Lucille began to lose her Eyesight early on in her childhood going completely blind by the age of seven, something both her father and mother dreaded; not because they feared it would diminish the quality of life their daughter would ultimately be able to have, but simply because of the very idea that they could've conceived a defective child in the first place. Her parents weren't exactly kind to her very often, shunning her from time to time as a disgrace to their family, oft times not even referring to her by her own name, but instead merely "The broken girl". Her older brother, Leon, whom had no defects what so ever, shielded her from their parents ridiculous behavior and cruelty whenever he could (part of the reason why she is who she is today) often by lying to her and telling her "They don't mean it," or even the occasional "Don't think it about it, Lucy, you're not the real issue, they are." when it got particularly bad. On the inside though he seathed with a silent rage at them for their verbal abuse of his Little Sister, which eventually became obvious to Lucille when they died a few years ago and Leon didn't shed a single tear at their graves, but instead expressed an anger laced hope that they'd find the peace and love on the other side that they had so monstrously denied Lucy her whole life. On her birthday shortly afterward, Leon made his coup de grace of his vengeance and gave her a trained pet hawk as the final act to spite their parents, both of whom hated birds in their household.

After her Parent's death, she came to trust her older brother more than anyone else in the world, helping him to take over the family business (which had been left entirely to him in the will, by the way...), learning under seemingly his clever and adaptive guidance the ways of the trade despite her sight handicap. Over time though, her brother became more and more interested in the Sword Party's doctrine, becoming somewhat of a darker and harsher person than he once was, claiming that if the city were to focus more on conquering the savages living in the lands around them, then it would surely open the way to expanding their business as new lands became available to acquire supply from.

In truth though, it was never Leon's thoughtful instruction alone that allowed her to learn how to conduct the family business, but rather her ability as a Gifted (which the young man is completely unaware she even possesses), learning on accident one day how to connect with the Hawk she'd been given and see through it's eyes for short bursts of time, and slowly came to realize there may be something more than appears to be going on, her own curiosity into what exactly she could do leading her to try developing it and experimenting often. This eventual realization of her status as a gifted ,however, contributed to her growing fear of her brother, causing her to actively continue hiding it from him, as he'd expressed a surmounting hatred for Gifted multiple times in the past since jumping on the Sword Party's band wagon...

Additional: She's completely blind, but learned how to echolocate and use sound interpenetration as a child. She tries to keep her handicap from being detected out of a desire not to draw pity because of it, as well as prefers not to be very showy with her gift.

Name: Elemus

Gender: Male

Age: 28

Race: Asian

Appearance: 5"11, Dark Brown eyes. Well built body and quite fit.

Spoiler

Personality: Elemus is cynical and somewhat misanthropic to a slight degree. Believing that People use each other and that there are no such things as "Good Samaritans" or the like, only people who are doing things that happen to further their own interests, regardless of whether the pursuit of said goals might be for better or for worse. He honestly doesn't care that much about the city's politics believing that it honestly doesn't matter who leads since Society will always find some way to endure and adapt since people will...well, always come together and try to use each other in order to achieve their own goals easier. (The only thing that could really make him care is if his own methods of getting what he wants were impeded...) He'll standby his world view without a problem, and won't hesitate to own up to the fact that he too is using people just as fast as he'll point out how others do the exact same thing. He's out for himself first and foremost, and possesses a good degree of foresight. Doesn't have any moral qualms with killing others if he thinks it's necessary for the pursuit of his ends.

Gift: Can make tangible, temporary copies of himself using the light waves in the area around him, essentially making it possible for him to be in multiple places or doing multiple things at once. There is a limit to how many he create however, up to three, and the more he makes, the difficulty in maintaining and controlling all of them will increase. In addition, the Solidness of the clones he can create depend on how much light he can gather from around him. He primarily relies upon sunlight, but can also use moonlight and artificial light, though Clones created from the latter two will be significantly less physical than those made with the former, resulting more in "Phantom" like apparitions than something that could pass for an actual person. He can also store Sunlight that he's gathered to make Dopplegangers from it later, but it's purity/ intensity will decay at an increasing rate over time, becoming completely useless for his Cloning ability after a few hours of being stored.

Whenever he gathers light, the area or the source he draws from is always dimmed and can't be used again unless relit/ a certain amount (Usually hours) passes and the light returns. The size of the Area that dimmed/ how hard it is to relight an artificial light source, IE a torch, from drawing depends on how much he takes.

The Clones themselves are capable of performing actual physical actions if made from Sunlight or strong artificial light, but are no more than apparitions and are restricted to little more than delivering messages and scouting if made of Weak Artificial light or Moonlight (Though he can choose to make an apparition even with sunlight if he wants.)

Backstory: Survived on the streets for most of his child hood, before managing to manifest his Gift and subsequently being discovered for it and sent to the School. The hard lessons he learned in poverty and the slums stayed with him ever since though, especially the first one; Everyone uses everyone else, plain and simple, and bitching about it gets you no where. After Graduating he took up Hunting game and selling the meat to butcheries as a way to make cash, easily able to confound prey with his Doppleganger ability, giving him more than enough time to finish it off with his Bow skills. Though he mainly hunts, he also has several... less than legal things on the side that provide income as well, leading to him going to certain lengths to try to know whats going on in the city, as a measure to help protect his side businesses and own interests.

Shortly after beginning hunting, he came across an older man in the wilderness who was outnumbered and about to be mauled by a wolf pack. Using his ability, Elemus dispatched most of the pack, and scared off the few survivors. Grateful for the help and wanting to pay it back some how, the older man revealed himself to be a tracker whose partner had perished earlier, and offered to enter into a partnership with Elemus; he tracks down the Game, and Elemus takes it out. The hunter accepted, discounting the old man's gratitude as simply not wanting to piss him off and get killed like his beastly assailants had. He and his Partner, Rom, came into the Employment of the Blood Siblings a few years ago, forging a contract with Leon Blood that provided that all the two of them had to do was provide them with the furs from all Game he killed, in return for them giving him a certain fixed labor wage along with a monthly wage dependent on how many furs he brings in. After just a few interactions over payment, he saw through Lucille's act and deduced her to be blind. following Leon's... conversion, He once caught Lucille practicing her Gift, ending up revealing his own shortly after in an effort to calm her down and shut her up, but struck a deal with her; she keeps his secret from her brother, and he'll do the same with hers, something that served both their interests. He is beginning to tire and become annoyed of Leon's fanatical and never ending preaching though... to the point where losing a huge meal ticket of his might actually be worth it...

Additional: Very Skilled with the Bow and Arrow, as well as with a knife. His Tracker partner, Rom, is not involved in any of his... less than legal activities. Elemus isn't very fond of the old man despite Rom's efforts to be friendly, and doesn't really try all that hard to talk to him when they're not on a hunting job for Leon, keeping him at arms length encase he someday needs to chose between his partner's survival and his own. He is the only person who knows of Lucille's gift besides herself, and he and Rom are among the very few who know she's actually blind

Gotwala

Name: Richard Gallus

Gender: Male

Age: 26

Race: Caucasian

Appearance: With a height of 6'5" and weighing in at 198 lbs., Richard has an imposing figure that matches his regal name and powerful personality incredibly well. Despite his average bone structure, Richard has perfect posture along with being incredibly in shape. Being the disciplined man that he is, Richard's dark, blonde hair is kept in a Caesar cut while his thick side-burns outline the sides of his head and combine with a similarly groomed beard. Furthermore, his mustache is connected to his beard (leaving a space devoid of facial hair below his lower lip) in yet again the same trim and maintained style, creating a very well-defined feature on his face. While a lot of his facial features are sharp, his jaw is square and firm, further accentuating his strict demeanor. His thick eyebrows and furled brow cast a slight shadow over his intense, predatory gaze but all without diminishing the bright color from his lime-green irises and focused pupils. Moving on, whenever he is not in regulation police uniform, he wears a black, thin, sleeveless turtleneck that not only displays his toned muscles, but also reveals large, interconnected scarring that runs down his right arm. This right arm of his has lost most of it's feeling in a childhood accident that destroyed most, if not all, of his nerves; thus leaving it somewhat limp compared to his left and unable to fully move it's fingers (Picture about the functionality of a relatively okay prosthetic). Other than that, he still wears both the pants and boots of his police uniform even in the "Civilian World".

Personality: As mentioned earlier, his personality very much matches his physical representation for the most part. However, he is somewhat "two-faced" in the way he acts towards civilians, superiors, colleagues, and anyone who he truly feels he can open up to; though all of these emotions are indeed genuine. On the job, he is stern, obedient, and fierce while doing his duty to the people of Trevalus. Towards superiors and colleagues, he acts loyally and never questions their decisions, considering himself a "monster used to stop monsters". When he thinks he's alone or amongst trusted people, his demeanor softens slightly as a profound sadness overcomes him. The few times he seems openly happy is when he plays piano, a hobby of his since a very young age and improved upon with proper application of his Gift. The biggest force that dictates his psyche is his very understanding and "acceptance" of his Gift. Richard believes that power of the Gift only serves to corrupt the Gifted and lead them on a path of destruction. This hatred of the Gift is what made him determined to join the police in hopes of stopping the twisted power of Gifts with his own. Despite personally believing the School Quarter is far too lax on the disciplining of "abominations", Richard had spent many of his years there honing his own Gift as a deterrent to other Gifted's actions. Overall, his feelings toward himself and fellow Gifted is that of an intense fear; however, his instinct has gone from "flight" to "fight" over the past 18 years since his Gift had first manifested. In essence, it's Richard's fear and conviction that drive his pursuit of strength and servitude.

Gift: Perpetual Force; the ability to make any action that requires force from the user to remain in effect until their body cannot handle the energy needed to maintain such action. Basically, imagine the person with this Gift swings a sword in a simple arc. Now imagine that same person focus on their muscle memory of the arc they just swung the sword in for about 1.5 seconds. Finally, imagine a semi-transparent, lime-green line that's about the thickness of the sword's edge (similar to an after image) appearing where the arc was swung while the sound of the sword swing is repeatedly looped about 8 times per second. This projected arc is also incredibly dense, but can be destroyed if enough of a counter force is applied to them (Because the effort to maintain the force against a counter-force is incredibly taxing on the user's body). Of course, energy cannot come from nothing, so the user feels the fatigue of these perpetual swings, but at a reduced rate (About 8 "perpetual swings" equaling the energy output of 1 normal swing). The user can do this with any amount of force they can personally project, be it a kick, punch, jump, sit-up, etc. They may also create as many of these "perpetual forces" as their body is capable of handling without their muscles bursting or joints blowing out. With greater concentration and even greater physical duress, the user could also move these perpetual projections (I.E. Blade Beams and "Slashing Bubbles" of protection).

Backstory: Richard was born under ideal conditions from the union of a well-off merchant's daughter and one of the hardest working police officers in Trevalus. Pampered with grand living conditions and his very own piano, Richard spent much of his early childhood in bliss. The best thing in the world for him was waiting for his father to come home so he could hear all of the stories about his brave father bringing justice to Trevalus and even defeating the horrible Gifted. Since his mother was afraid of Gifted and his father hated them, Richard also learned to believe that the Gifted are monsters that only exist cause pain and suffering. In a way, this time under his parents guidance helped shape the man he is today, although it was somewhat... Short lived. A few months after he had turned the ripe age of eight, Richard was helping his mother in the kitchen to make lunch while his father was on duty. While they shared this quality mother-son time together, it came to a swift end when Richard started playing with a kitchen knife; pretending to be a servant of justice just like his father. However, upon attacking his imaginary criminal, a strange, slightly transparent, lime-green arc appeared in mid air. His mother gasped as Richard dropped the knife from his right hand in shock and awe of this strange occurrence. After a long silence and a look of absolute horror from his mother, Richard started to feel a slight pain growing on his right arm. "What are you doing!?", screamed his mother as she started to recoil from him; all the while Richard remained fixated on the arc, his mother, and the pain in his arm. Not much later, the pain continued to grow to the point where Richard couldn't fight back his tears. "Mother! M-my arm hurts! It hurts, Mother!", cried Richard as his veins began to bulge and pulsate rapidly. His mother eventually started to skirt the room away from her son until she the backdoor of their home. Hurriedly, she swung open the door and ran as fast as she could away from the house. When Richard attempted to follow his mother, the pain became so debilitating that he could do no more than fall to the floor in the fetal position while screaming for his mother and father to help him. Living relatively distanced from any neighbors, his cries where left unheard as his right arm could no longer handle the stress of his Gift. After one last yell, his right arm's nerves completely burst as his inner forearm literally ripped open. Hours later, his father eventually showed up to find his son foaming from the mouth with his right arm mangled and contorted. After waking up in the hospital, Richard saw his father and immediately told him what happened. At that moment his father gave him a harsh, cold look before taking a deep breath and saying, "I already know. Your mother told me after she left us." After his recovery, Richard was immediately sent to the School Quarter to be "Trained and quarantined" as his father put it, until he was eventually allowed to leave. His time in the School Quarter was spent in attempted solitude while he failed on all fronts to convince his fellow Gifted that they are horrible abominations. The combination of his family's rejection and his school experiences forged his psyche into one that must atone for the sin of being Gifted. His every effort was dedicated towards becoming a defender of justice so he could punish wicked Gifted and protect the innocent people who "his kind" endanger by living.

Additional Details: Only slight feeling in his right arm after years of physical therapy.

Commander

Name: Emelia Vanderton (Sometimes goes by Elliot)
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Race: Caucasian
Appearance: Green eyes, long black hair, and around 5' 8''. She wears breast plate over a greenish colored shirt and brown colored pants along with some leather boots. She doesn't wear any other armor other than some gauntlets as she tends to prefer the extra speed. Whenever she's out in public, she usually pulls her hair under her shirt to make herself look more masculine (sometime she wears a mask in a duel or battle to conceal her gender). In addition, she carries a knight's sword for her left hand and special magnetic sword in the other (explained in backstory).
Personality: Has a strong sense of pride and usually holds a serious look on her face. If you challenge her to a duel, she will never back down not even if there's no chance to win. Once you get to know her, she is actually quite friendly and nice, but her pride does make her a bit stubborn sometimes.
Gift: Magnetism. Her normal limit is that she is only able to slow down movements of somewhat light metal objectts such as swords within an arms reach. Whenever she has the magnet sword in her hand, she is able to shift metal objects a little bit such as shifting a metal tipped arrow to fly a little ways away from her or flinging a steel sword to the right a little bit. If a sword were to cross with this sword, it would be completely stuck until Emelia stops using her power. If she uses all her power at once, she'll only be able to bring a fully armored soldier to his knees for a few seconds.
Backstory: Emelia grew up as what would be considered a normal child without any gift. Once she hit 18, she left home to learn the way of the sword. Most people laughed at the idea of training this scrawny girl or were afraid of what might become of them, but one eventually accepted the challenge and took her in as an apprentice. She spent the next two years learning how to fight in combat, until she came into a fight where the opponent's sword deeply wounded her right arm. While she could still wield a sword in the arm, she could only pull off a few, slower swings with it. Her master was about to give up until he noticed her doing something very odd. She was just barely moving a metal coin without even touching it. Her master thought of a very surprising solution to the problem.
Over the next couple of years, Emelia relearned everything taught to her about the sword, but for the left hand instead of the right. It was a bit weird at first and she often had to hold the sword with both hands at the start. She eventually figured it out and it felt surprisingly comfortable. During this time, the master went down to a blacksmith and ordered a very special, lighter weight sword for his apprentice. This sword looked pretty normal except for the black color in the center of the sword which he nicknamed the Magnet Sword before giving it to Emelia. He eventually taught her some tricks in which he thought were help make up for her handicapped arm. Once Emelia reached 22, her master deemed he could no longer teach her anything else and dismissed her.
Now on her own, Emelia began to search for work as a mercenary. That line of work didn't seem to be paying as much as she expected so she began taking on other jobs just to be able to eat a decent meal every day. Her favorite method of gaining money is betting people in a fight. She tries to stay honorable in a fight using her regular sword, but sometimes cheats by using her gift when she's desperate for money.
Additional Details: Emelia takes no shame in her gender. She only pretends to be a man so that her opponent won't hold back.

Murdoc

Name: Haru "Solace" Amsel
Gender: Male
Age: 23
Race: Mixed ancestry, predominantly Caucasian.
Appearance: 5'2" and about 120lbs. Rather pale due to spending a lot of time indoors, though this is not entirely why. Medium-length black hair that's slightly shorter in the front and hazel eyes. Usually wears think, heavy clothing. Somewhat delicate-looking facial features, and is rather frail overall.

Personality: Quiet to the point of being nearly mute and communicating mostly through body language. Willing to cooperate and work with almost anything and anyone, provided they aren't outright evil to him. Naturally, he tends to keep to himself. He is not particularly strong-willed and is rather easy to boss around for the most part. Enjoys the finer things in life, such as poetry. Despite all of this, there is a core of strength within him; he just lacks motivation to use it.

Gift: Can distribute pain amongst people and animals within 6 feet. That is, pain can be moved from one individual to another to any degree, but no actual wounds are created or healed. It is felt wherever the original location of the source was unless the recipient is, for whatever reason, lacking that part of their body in which case it moves to the closest analogous part. The user feels at least 10% of pain moved by this ability.
Backstory: A lifelong resident of the Living Quarter. As a child, his mother used to take in stray animals and care for them. Haru enjoyed caring for them and helping her nurse them back to health. The injured strays always seemed to perk up when he was nearby, though his mother was rather concerned by the sensations of pain she felt if she was close enough to her son. It didn't take her and her husband overly long to put two and two together and deduce that their son had an unusual Gift. They worried about sending Haru to school in the rough districts of the Living Quarter, but they soon learned he could fend for himself.

Though he would appear to be a natural target for bullying and general harassment by other children and adults alike, most left him alone after a few kids decided to rough him up a bit after school. Their attacks seemed to have little effect on Haru, while they themselves felt as if they were being punched. Rumors started to spread that he had some sort of psychic power that he could and would attack people with, so for the most part he was avoided, though this didn't bother him.

As he grew older, the rampant crime around him became more apparent. He became a fairly common sight after muggings, assaults, and even simple accidents, soothing away the pain of the afflicted party's injuries before other help could arrive. Haru also made a habit of showing up at hospitals and clinics, generally brightening the otherwise dismal mood by offering a respite from the pain of broken bones or fever. Most people didn't know his name, as he rarely spoke, so those in the area named him Solace as a substitute. He continues to try to get the other parties involved in the affairs of his home Quarter, despite the police breathing down his neck.
Additional Details: For reasons that should be obvious, he's got a pretty high pain tolerance compared to most people and might outright ignore injuries as long as they are not crippling.

Charizard

Name: Thomas Farland

Gender: Male
Age: 27
Race: Caucasian
Appearance: 1.84 meters (or about 6 ft, if prefered), black hair, brown eyes, has a somewhat hunched back when standing
Personality: Has a very strong sense of justice, sees only "good" and "bad people" and doesn't divide humans into any other categories. A calm thinker who tends to analyse all possible outcomes before making actions. Doesn't express emotion very often and is a bit of an introvert.
Gift: The ability to manipulate sound waves. He is able to create a space where sound can be manipulated in many ways.
One of them is being able to create a high-pitched tone in a small space that can leave the target dizzy and tired, thus allowing him to get close somewhat easily. The space is only about enough for 1 person to hear, and the tone lasts for about 10 seconds.
Another is the ability to simulate the voice of someone they know, in order to trick an unsuspecting target, thus allowing manipulation. However, if used for more than 9 words, the rest becomes difficult to discern and cuts off, thus not being usable for long messages. Cannot be used on the same person if that person has been affected by that ability in the last 24 hours.
His own hearing sense is powerful, and can hear even the slightest movements, breaths and other sounds, which can help him in many situations. He develops this ability at the age of 25.
Finally, the last is emitting a powerful blast of sound that can deal significant damage to the target. This leaves them weakened and gives Thomas a good opportunity to strike. Furthermore, this ability can shatter certain solid objects.
Backstory: At the age of 4, Thomas' mother was killed by an unknown criminal. He was raised by his father, who worked as a police officer. Because of his father catching criminals, his sense of justice developed at the age of 5. He dreamed of influencing justice throughout the city, and turning it into a better place. This idealology made him some enemies. There were rare times when he was scared or angry, and would emit a blast of sound when under these emotions, which he always kept inside him until he couldn't take it. However, this mysterious power didn't frighten him, it made him happy. It meant he could serve justice more efficiently.
In his teenage years, he did independent research into crime in the city. He never published it, because he knew that he would then be easily targetable, and would probably be killed. He kept the research to himself, so that he could learn the patterns of the unjust and wrongdoers. He also chose to train himself to use long-ranged weapons, and has decent accuracy when throwing items, such as knives, and is capable of using the crossbow. He didn't want to rely on his powers too much, as he wasn't able to use them very well yet.
At the age of 19, he got a somewhat good idea of what he could do, but was not any closer to gaining good control over his powers. He began to look up to The Scales, the goverment party that influenced law throughout the city. At the age of 27, his story begins...
Additional Details: Very agile, can climb simple buildings and objects, and is capable of running fast. He learned this during his endeavors in elementary school against the bullies. Also has a strategic mind, but on rare occasions he overthinks certain situations, thus throwing himself into loops or doing something illogical. Also, he has low physical strength, and is not good with hand-to-hand combat. Because of this, he got his preference of long ranged weapons, and is able to use them effectively. He only enters close combat if absolutely necessary.

Jakler

Name: Travis Stanbridge

Gender: Male

Age: 25

Race: Caucasian

Appearance: Sandy blonde hair, purple eyes, 5' 8", a kind face despite his mischievous nature. Almost always has a warm smile on his face.

Personality: Kind to most people, but playfully ruthless to the ones who cross him. Some take his smile an happy go lucky attitude as cockiness, but whether that's true or not, Travis will never tell.

Gift: Can change the weight of his and others' bodies at will. He can make them light as a feather or heavy as a boulder. He can also concentrate this power on a specific body part of his or someone else's. Even though he's near mastered this ability, if he keeps it going too long he'll become exhausted, and he can only use this ability on people, not objects.

Backstory: He grew up on the streets of the Living Quarter and learned how to work the ways of the underground. He's become a sort of legend among the various cutthroats and highwaymen the lurk in the less than desirable areas of the quarter. Wherever they tried to steal, kill, or demolish, there he'd be, ready to put them back in their place. He's managed to escape their clutches more times than they can count, but Travis has some scars of some plans that went awry. However, those ruffians aren't the only people he has to worry about now... he's starting to worry his antics might be getting on the nerves of The Swords themselves, so he figures it's high time that he made himself scarce. And there's only one place he can go before his luck runs out: The School.

Additional Details: Travis is by no means perfect, he has some flaws that I'm willing to share as I reveal more about his character in the IC Thread. Give it some time.

Name: Reyn Dipp

Gender: Male

Age: 21

Race: Caucasian

Appearance: 5, 9.

Face:

char_65383.jpg

So, there is no Tech or systems to be found, until much later on. I should have specified the Tech level in the History Segment. Regardless, unless you REALLY want it, that Gift is going to be largely worthless.

There will be combat, but I'd suggest selecting a Gift that is very adaptable, both for Combat, and utility.

How much Combat you get into in the beginning depends on your Character and their choices

Name: Jackson Benedict

Gender: Male
Age: 23
Race: Black
Appearance: 6'5", gentle face, well built. More often grins than smiles, and more often smiles than frowns.

601249-b82fd999682800c8781c4beb86c1bd2b1

Name: Cara Rynguard

Age: 24

Race: Latino

Appearance: (I'm assuming an image is fine?) 5'7

Large picture!

20218d1341672088-anime-renders-yuki_assa

Name: Kyrie Byrnes

Gender: Female

Age: 22

Race: Caucasian

Appearance: Average height (5'5) and average weight. Kyrie has very long and straight black hair generally in a high-ish ponytail with some freckles and fair skin. Her face has a distinctive bone structure, angular, but fine and graceful. She has sharp, piercing eyes, one being blue and the other brown.

Personality: Byrnes is an adventurous and talkative young lady, she's very steadfast in her beliefs, but she knows to acknowledge when she is wrong (though one would have a hard time trying to get her to admit it). She may do things like take take a joke too far, but very rarely does she actually mean to offend or anger a person, she sort of has a tendency to to over plan and go way too over the top with a lot of things, being pretty competitive. Normally, she is a pretty impulsive, loud mouthed and short tempered, act now think later sort of person, but that doesn't mean she can't shut up and think before hand either, if it is important. She's not a dumb sort of person, but foolish would be accurate.

Gift: Kyrie can manipulate water of all three forms, liquid, gas or solid and can make it change in between those three states. It's exhausting for her to use her abilities for extended periods of time. She can, say for example, keep some form of water suspended, but actively moving it requires more concentration and energy, and making it change states, even more so.

Within the last few years she started practicing with it and testing her limits with the water manipulation, and she had gotten to be pretty good with it in terms of precision, not quite the case with stamina.

Backstory: Kyrie grew up in the Military Quarters with both of her parents and older and two younger brothers. Her family was middle class and nothing really too exiting really came from her childhood

She had known of her water affinity for as long as she can remember, but she grew to learn all of the complications the gifted faced and had to live with, and avoided using it as much as possible for most of her teen years. Not many people knew of her gift, but she never kept it a secret when inquired. Kyrie was quite fortunate to have an understanding family growing up.

Additional Details: She has a fear of being lost and is a very picky eater. If she is incredibly upset, weird things might start happening with any water she is in contact with or near by.

Name: Lucille Blood

Gender: Female

Age: 21

Race: Caucasian

Appearance: 5"6, dark blond hair and cold, slate grey eyes

714111190The_Afluent.jpg

Personality: Lucille is a kind and generally calm young woman with a strong respect for those willing to stand by their word. Her temper is quite slow to build, but burning right to the core when it's finally ignited. Call it either Optimism or Naivety, but She believes that most individuals are genuinely good at the core of their beings, and is more than willing to give second chances, even at times when people may not deserve it.

Good god... this was a lot, Soldier. I'm kinda tired now... let me know if anything needs editing or what not.

Name: Richard Gallus

Gender: Male

Age: 26

Race: Caucasian

Appearance:

With a height of 6'5" and weighing in at 198 lbs., Richard has an imposing figure that matches his regal name and powerful personality incredibly well.

Personality:

As mentioned earlier, his personality very much matches his physical representation for the most part. The few times he seems openly happy is when he paints, a hobby of his since a very young age and improved upon with proper application of his Gift.

Gift:

Perpetual Force; the ability to make any action that requires force from the user to remain in effect until their body cannot handle the energy needed to maintain such action.

Backstory:

Richard was born under ideal conditions from the union of a well-off merchant's daughter and one of the hardest working police officers in Trevalus. Pampered with grand living conditions and his very own canvas and paints, Richard spent much of his early childhood in bliss. His mother eventually started to skirt the room away from her son until she found the backdoor of their home.

Alright, that was incredibly longwinded and yet still seems to be missing something, haha... I do have a small list of things that may need to be edited by you, A Happy Elf, as they might go against what exists in your canon.

1.) Owning art supplies for oil painting.

I really look forward to this Roleplay and what we'll accomplish in our combined story, haha.

@Stratos, I'll PM you about the brother, but otherwise, you're golden.

@Typhlosion, accepted, but bear in mind that since the reset of Mankind, a lot of the world has changed, so there are some plant species not known and I won't allow you to control. Also, I'll say that you can mutate things more the bigger and more complicated the original plant is. So, a vine can be mutated more than a flower, and a flower more than grass etc. This is just so that you aren't literally making a plant army out of each individual blade of grass.

@Bagel, When you say barrier, is a manipulatable wall, kind of like Invisible woman in the fantastic four? Who just makes shields as needed. The idea isn't OP, just need to understand it.

@Gotwala, seeing as your post is VERY long, slap it in between some spoilers. And as for what does/doesn't need changing

Being an officer in the living quarters makes sense. Going there s like being put into he front lines of a war. They make it there, they're golden. And, as stated in the OP, Gifted are allowed to be police recently.

Instruments are rare, and learning to play them even more so. It is reserved for the closest people you get to Royalty in Trevalus, so owning a piano is an Ixnay. He can have a love of music, but not a piano.

Otherwise, you're on par and accepted.

Almost definitely. There is a reason there are 0 Spells that do that in D and D. If you could shape metal....you could turn a man's armour into a deadly weapon. ((basically skewering him into tiny bits without even trying, and no way for him to even avoid it.)), not to mention the many many other things you could do with it.
