Nan
For my future and for the future of my fellow nonbinary and trans people in Finland please sign this petition in Amnesty's page. Translation: Prime Minister Alexander Stubb. I demand you to ensure that transgender law reform is exported to the parliament urgently. The existing law violates human rights. Trans people can't be forced to be sterile, undergo humiliating studies or they can't be forced to have a divorce. Transgender law should respect basic human rights and the individual can decide their legal gender. ----- Yeah the thing is I can't decide my own gender and the state decides who I am.. and translating this was kind of difficult.. if you have something to ask about this feel free to ask me. EDIT// Now there's a new goal aargh. Now we need 10 000 signatures. Edited November 15, 2014 by Nan
Zephyrus the Priestess
Oh boy. The law is forcing transgenders and non-binary people to undergo what, exactly? Btw, signed; good luck with your endeavors, mate. Personally I can't stand it when others decide for other people, especially with regards to identity. Trans people need to be sterilized if they want to change their legal gender, and they also need to get divorce... and even a normal visit to a doctor can be really humiliating, I mean doctors can treat you like a piece of shit just because of you're transgender.. Also changing your legal gender, for example from female to male can take 3 years and it can lead to really terrible situations when you need to show your ID... EDIT// Also there's a chance that I can't get any hormone treatment etc. because I'm a nonbinary.. Some doctors say that nonbinaries don't deserve any kind of treatment. GotWala
Hmph, people will find any minority to look down upon so long as it serves to unite a populace with lazy means like hate and ignorance! Absolute equality will never be an easy thing to achieve, but it's my belief that it's something humanity should strive for! If signing this petition is a way of working towards this goal, then I must sign no matter how small my power to change the world is! Ahh, my emotions appear to have gone out of hand again, haha. Magus
What the hell, denying people their basic rights because of their gender, that ain't cool man, I'm not sure if I can sign the petition because I'm not a resident, but damn this is ridiculous. I really wish everyone could be equal someday. Many people weren't even aware of this issue.. for example my friends were really disgusted when I told about this.. I really hope my country's parliament and government takes this seriously.... What the hell, denying people their basic rights because of their gender, that ain't cool man, I'm not sure if I can sign the petition because I'm not a resident, but damn this is ridiculous. Yeah this is ridiculous. I think you can sign this because there isn't any "only Finnish people can sign this" or at least I didn't find any. Tomas Elliot
I came in all serious about telling you that starting a random petition on a Pokemon forum cannot really change anything... And then I saw it was an actually official petition by no other than Amnesty International. I apologize for being prejudicial. Gonna sign it now. EDIT: wait something just struck me... The petition mentions the fact that trans people shouldn't "be forced to be sterile" but... Aren't trans people sterile by definition? I mean, isn't the very nature of the operation to switch gender supposed to make you sterile as a side effect? Or am I getting something wrong? Asking out of sheer curiosity... Um no, I am definitely not sterile (yet) I can still get a girl pregnant if I want (though admittedly I'm still legally male) Not all trans people get sex reassignment surgeries. Especially trans guys, a lot of whom just get the breasts trimmed down (though many do also get their reproductive bits ripped out, and actually I think both of those technically count as SRSs) There's plenty of trans people who could still very easily have kids EDIT: Also, won't be signing, sorry. Might technically be allowed to, but I don't feel it's my right to try to change things in Finland. What the people of Finland want is what the law should reflect, whether I personally feel it moral or not Edited November 14, 2014 by KosherKitten
Nan
how many siggys u need for it to be contested in your parliament thingy ( sorry had a bad day not feeling like being understandable today) We need about 5000 signatures but I think more is better and currently there is almost 3000 signatures. I think this will reach the goal soon.. When I signed this it only had about 200 signatures haha. EDIT: Also, won't be signing, sorry. Might technically be allowed to, but I don't feel it's my right to try to change things in Finland. What the people of Finland want is what the law should reflect, whether I personally feel it moral or not It's okay, I'm not forcing anyone to sign this and if someone wants to sign this petition they can do it, but I think this spreads awareness even though not everyone signs this and awareness is super important too. Lost Lore
Signed. I would say more, but... I don't have anything respectful to say about Finland's government after reading this/your status from the other day, so I'm going to hold my tongue. Best of luck getting enough signatures to make a difference.

Best of luck getting enough signatures to make a difference. I understand. I really hope some politicians don't ruin this, especially our interior minister Päivi Räsänen.. To put this short she basically wants to make everything illegal. She even wants to make abortion illegal. Fun fact every time she says something people start leaving the church, it's even more ironic that she's (really fundamentalist) Christian. Tomas Elliot
Come to think of it, we italians literally know nothing about Finland... The only thing the average italian will tell you about Finland is that there are hot blonde women there, and even that is actually a Sweden stereotype: this just goes to show our level of misinformation! So yeah, I have no idea of what is going on up there, which side is the top party on, or why brilliant ideas like this (I hope the sarcasm is evident) came into being... Hell even in Italy nobody ever came up with a law like this, and considering that the Pope lives literally next to the House of Parlament, and that our leading party for something like 45 years has been a party named "Democrazia Cristiana" (="CHRISTIAN Democracy") that's saying something... Well I think that stereotype applies to all Nordic countries (by Nordic countries I mean Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark and Iceland). Well our biggest politic parties are (and these parties are part of the parliament): Kansallinen Kokoomus (KOK) / National Coalition Party Perussuomalaiset (PS) / Finns Party Ruotsalainen Kansanpuolue (RKP) / Swedish People's Party of Finland Suomen Keskusta (KESK) / Centre Party (Finland) Suomen Kristillisdemokraatit (KD) / Christian Democrats (Finland) Suomen Sosialidemokraattinen Puolue (SDP) / Social Democratic Party of Finland Vasemmistoliiito (VAS) / Left Alliance (Finland) Vihreä Liitto (VIHR) / Green League I feel really frustrated that there's really racist and conservative people in every political party especially in Finns Party (it was called True Finns but it changed it English name to Finns Party) and Christian Democrats... and the only political party that thinks about my and many other peoples rights is Green League but to be honest I don't agree about everything they say and some people think that they're vegetarian hippies. Oh I didn't know that you're Italian. I visited Italy last March. To be honest I don't know really that much about Italy expect Roman Empire, pasta, pizza and also Italian ice cream is really delicious haha. Cepheus
signed. As a german I'm sick and tired of being insulted as *that WW2 word* because of a past when I wasn't even born, and it is still held against me. Therefore, I don't want something like that to happen again! (It started out like this... and we all know what happened in the end ... ... or will learn about it in school) I can't stand something like that. And overly religious people have NOTHING TO DO in politics! because they can't think rational and are totally focused on their religion. I really hope this works out for all of you. Sometimes I think the world would be a better place if we had one world-government like in most of the Sci-Fi movies and series... universal, equal laws around the world... I understand how you feel about WW2 and the things that Hitler and the Nazis did, it was their fault. I actually think that too that people shouldn't bring religion to politics, I mean everyone has a different view of religion and people have different religions, like someone is Buddhist, someone is Muslim and someone is Christian. Hmm.. I'm not sure could that one country-plan work.. but I really hope that in the future everyone is equal everywhere around the world.
