Emelia saw Richard was bothered by the whole gender thing which angered her a little bit. "Just because I'm a woman doesn't mean anything has changed. If it's so troublesome, you can just call me Elliot. The only reason I pretend to be a guy is because people used to go easy on me in duels." She took a deep breath to calm herself. "Sorry, but when people act like that, it bothers me. When I started pretending to be a man, people never held back so dueling became fun again. Sometimes I get a bit carried away."

Richard was relieved that Emelia didn't press further into the 'Maiden' subject; however, that relief was short lived when Emelia berated him for treating her like a lady. I am perplexed... Is that not how women are to be treated? As they are? That is how Father treated Mother and it is how Mother taught me to act! I would think I should be more tactful and gentlemanlike considering my status as a... Richard realized that he had once again lost himself in thought during a conversation.

"No, it is fine. I will call you Emelia since that is your name sake... Unless you would prefer Elliot? In which case I could refer to you as such once more... Or just Officer Vanderton?" Hypothesized Richard as he turned back over to face Emelia, some of the red of embarrassment still on his face as his eyes grew to their usual intensity as he pondered aloud. "I will try not to act... 'Like that', as you put it. However un-chivalrous it may be..."

Emelia... She is being quite amiable to me even after I have demonstrated my vices. Hell, even my Gift has not dissuaded her from conversing with the likes of me. Maybe... Maybe she would be willing to be my ally... He realized once again that he was staring and thinking for far too long.

"If... Ahh, how can I say this..." Awkwardly spoke Richard as he rested his chin on his left hand; his eyes shifting around with his disjointed thoughts. "If it is sparring that entertains you then... Perhaps when I am given some time to rest... If it would not be inconvenient for you..."

Am I still treating her like a lady? Of course you are, Richard! You blasted fool! Loathsome dog! Revolting creature!

"I'll accept that challenge," Emelia immediately responded. She never has and never will turn down a duel. "You seem pretty good from what I saw. Even without that green light thingy your skills are above average. As for myself, I'm pretty much stuck using my left hand since I tore my right arm a few years back. I mean I can still wield a sword in it, but not for too long. If I had a gift like yours, maybe my life wouldn't be so rough." Emelia blushed a little bit embarrassed to admitting she was a bit jealous. The man pretty much defeated more than double what she did in a shorter amount of time.

Richard immediately snapped out of his embarrassed state at Emelia's words. No! Absolutely not!

"Emelia! Do not ever think that again!" Shouted Richard as he looked Emelia in the eye, his visage becoming the vicious gaze of a predator once more as a deep scowl formed. "My curse is not for others to bear! My vile, putrid kind only create violence and destruction in our wake! I am an agent of annihilation, a minion of evil, a disgusting monster! Hurk!"

Richard realized in his fervor that his intense body language had aggravated his wounds. A sharp pain came to his gut as he coughed and fell back down in the cot, breathing heavily and staring at the ceiling.

"Please... I beg of you, Officer Vanderton," Spoke Richard softly as his harsh look melted and his eyes started misting. "Do not envy a Gifted."

Cara quickly leaped into the shadows again, swiftly moving in the veil of the darkness. She re-appeared, silently pouncing on another one of the men, stabbing him with his knife and bringing him to the ground. She wasted no time in hiding once more in the shadows, leaping constantly out of sight, dancing just out of sight. Far away, yet oh so very close. She suddenly appeared, running straight towards the men at the door. She jumped onto one of the tables, using it as a boost to get higher, falling diagonally towards Frank, blade aimed at his neck.

Jackson really wasn't sure of what else to do. He walked over to the ball in the center of the arena and gently touched it, feeling its crevices and examining the surface. Perhaps he could figure out its weight.

I don't think he realizes I'm a gifted too. Then again, not many people do. If anyone found out about it, I couldn't do the only thing I'm good at. Dueling. She looked at him silent for a moment. "Just because you can do something others can't doesn't make you evil. That's no different than saying a blacksmith is a demon for creating these weapons of violence and death." Emelia pulled out her regular sword and looked at her reflection withing the steelwood. "Ever since I was a kid, you could always see me swinging a stick around pretending to be a knight. Here I am now, swinging a sword fighting people for money and even letting some starve for the day. Does that make me a monster as well?"

She does not understand... Just like the other pure people... Do they know not fear? What clouds their judgment so as to not see the monsters before them!?

"You are an officer of the law now, Emelia" Stated Richard as he swallowed hard and turned to once again face her; His gaze showing intensity but seeming to fixate on something not truly there. "You are pure. You are only capable of the wrong doings that humans muster. Gifted... Gifted are ruled by their ability. It is the Gift itself that gives us the dark powers of ambition. Arrogance, tyranny, conceit, cruelty... Us bastards care nothing for those who are not like us. Absolute power corrupts absolutely, Emelia."

Richard starts to lift up his right arm, rotating it back and forth to inspect the interconnected scarring along it's length. His eyes grew more and more fiery as his lime-green irises flashed with a mixture of fear and aggression.

"I know that it is only a matter of time before my power rules me as well. I try and try to avoid it by serving people like you; people who deserve their lives and are not despots and villains! It is unfair to humanity... My kind are predators and abominations that will stop at nothing to seize superiority," Continued Richard as his pupils seemed to dilate. "I must be the monster humanity can count on, Emelia. I have to save the pure people of Trevalus from my cursed race before they destroy everything we hold dear. You are right in saying a sword is a sword. But this is a hex upon my birthright. An excuse for me to rule over others with impunity!"

Richard clenched his right fist as much as he could as he slammed it into the side of his cot, a lime-green projection following it that aided in the process of cracking the wood and spring support.

"Look into my eyes and think of my unholy wrath at the Steelsword Pub and tell me I am no monster!" Shouted Richard as he stared at Emelia with the savage gaze of a cornered beast.

Just hearing what this man was saying only made Emelia want to punch in the face even more. She restrained herself though. "You are a monster, but not because of your power. You label all of these 'gifted' as bad just because of what they can do. If they were so bad, why would one save your life back there at the bar. What I can't understand is what makes you hate them so much. I never grew up around gifted, but the ones I've met aren't as evil as you make them out to be. It makes me wonder how such an egotistical fool made it into the force anyway." Emelia realized she said that last part out loud. She kept her sword out just in case things got a little messy.

Emelia is just like the others! Just like Lieutenant Timms! Just like... Richard bowed his head in a mixture of impotent rage and shame. Every time; Every single time I try to show people what makes beasts dangerous they ignore it. What is it about Gifted that made them so acceptable? What charm do they have over the pure people that make them ignore our wrongdoings? How can I be the only one who sees this!? Not cursed once by birth, but twice by understanding! I must save them, even if they blind themselves of the truth!

"You are correct, Emelia. I am indeed an egotistical fool..." Relented Richard as he loosened his semi-grip with his right hand and proceeded to make his way off of the cot. "I was so absorbed in my own perceptions, I failed to account for how others would see them. I failed to show you what makes us all damned. You would not understand, because you are no monster. You are too pure, Emelia."

Richard slowly walked over to his clothing and began putting it on, ignoring the pain in his wounds as he was preoccupied with another, deeper wound. After putting on his uniform once more, Richard stood facing the corner of the room, his posture remaining perfect and stalwart while his head still drooped.

"A Gifted saved my life, you say? I have seen a similar Gifted before, you know. They claim time again to only aide people in need... And perhaps that is true," Flatly spoke Richard as his passion seemed oddly absent. "But they are Gifted, Emelia. They have a power that makes them think they are greater than man and they will succumb to their ambitions. They help out of selfish desire; They are fueling a self-serving agenda where you pure worship them like saviors for their contributions. But one day, they will feel shorted. Slighted. Your praise and adoration will no longer be sufficient. We are ravenous wolves, Emelia. We will stop at nothing to take what our power makes us feel we deserve. We cannot escape this, no matter how hard we try."

Richard took a deep breath and stayed unnaturally still for awhile, his only movements being his hands slowly going to parade rest in his usual fashion of having his left hand help his right. After a silence that went on for far longer than it should've, Richard snapped his head up to match the rest of his posture.

"I joined the force so I could be disciplined and tamed by the pure people. I had to rob myself of any semblance of pride and free will, otherwise I would risk my Gift consuming me," Stated Richard in the same, flat tone. "Stay your blade, Emelia. I am still your monster to command and that will be true as long as I do not falter."

After saying this, Richard about faced and stood staring directly at Emelia, the usual light in his eyes having grown dull as his gaze seemed appropriate for a lifeless painting than for a person. Not too long after, Richard started kneeling before Emelia, his right arm resting on his knee while his left arm gave support.

"Should the time come when I am overwhelmed by my hubris, I ask that you are capable of dispatching me," Said Richard as if he was a man on his deathbed already. "It should be a simple task, really. You would be the last person I would raise a hand against, Emelia. It would be akin to putting down a rabid dog."

I have relinquished myself to you, Emelia. Now do what you will and berate me once more for my insanity in your eyes. Hate me like the others and never let go. You are a real knight while I can only pretend. Do not falter, Emelia. Curse me for deigning to speak to you and cast me away...

If Jackson investigated the hanging boulder, he could tell that he could potentially move it with his Gift, allowing it to swing around the room, though it looked like if it did it would destroy all the buttons and be a threat to jackson himself if he lost control.

Stratos & Annie

The two men at the exits wren't so easil caught off guard after seeing the same trick used on their allies. They immediately stomped on the rats, kicking them away as they returned to their Vigil. They had one goal, to cut off retreat. Meanwhile, the Spokesman who attacked Elemus slumped, lifeless as his blood ran out from the cut Elemus had made.

As Cara sailed toward Frank, his image shimmered in the air, like an illusion, only to reveal a small, red haired woman who was at least half the size of Frank, reaching at most a diminutive 4"9. She stepped away, easily avoiding Caras assault wicch had been mistakenly launched in the wrong way. The woman spoke up. "Very well, I do believe we can make some use of you. We had some rather useless men who came here for rather imbecilic reasons, so we had to come up with some form of weeding out the idiots." She paid no heed to the men who lay dead.

Montgomery narrowed his eyes in suspicion. Someone vouched for you?" Montgomery stood up, a hint of anger in his steely eyes, his moustache quivering ever so slightly. "Come with me, we will find this officer at once" He declared as he left the room, expecting Reyn t follow.

Jackson was a bit concerned at about how dangerous the ball could be, but he had to try something. Shattering the pillars won't do me much good, I bet. How about the door? Jackson shifted his stance and gazed at the door. It's go time. Jackson slipped off his gloves. The disturbance twisted and turned as if it was stretching. It had been too long since they were in open air. They then merged together between both hands and surrounded the ball. Jackson dug his heels into the floor and gave a huge push in an attempt to launch the ball towards the door.

In his efforts, Jackson forgot to remember that the ball was hanging, which meant it had to pivot around the point the chain was attached. The large wrecking ball went forward and up, sailing above the door, unable to hit it, and then came swinging back down straight towards Jackson

Jackson flew onto the floor, barely missing the menacing ball, as it swung past him, he slid over and then stood up. He focused once again, grabbing the ball and swinging it towards a set of stone pillars.

"Some initiation then..." Elemus scoffed as he rolled the dead idiot's body off of him, springing up from the floor after retrieving his other knife. With a quick spin in his hands he sheathed both the twin daggers back into their places behind his belt. He cast a single glance back to Lucille, smug, his eyes questioning her as if to ask if she really still wanted to go in with this charade any longer after this. She simply ignored his look, walking past him and addressing the red haired woman.

"So this was a set up..." she began, glancing at the dead men in the room, though not letting her cold gray eyes linger on any of them for more than a second at the most; she would've felt a lot more sympathy for the slain bastards if it hadn't been for some very... obvious implications that had been made earlier on. "And I'm guessing that those who you were willing to sacrifice for this were nothing more than fodder; either just unfit to do their regular job or simply unable to meet your quota?"

Emelia looked over to Richard and back at the ground for a few minutes. He wasn't going to change his mind on anything so there was no point in talking. While she never really thought about it, she was a gifted and he'd spite her too if he ever found out. It was almost as if the force was not the place she was meant to be. After another minute, she pulled out a coin in her pocket and flipped it. When it landed in her hand, it came up heads. Head again? I need to stop using my power to cheat these coin flips. Still, this guy thinks I'm a great officer yet I haven't been recruited yet.

"You know, you're wrong about something else. I'm not a good officer either. That gifted that saved you probably could care less about any of us. Seeing you march to your own grave worried me...enough to vouch for his innocence. If I could have, I would have pulled you out of there myself. Thinking back now, it was a stupid mistake. They probably won't let someone that stupid join the force so this is probably the last time we'll be working together." Admiting the truth hurt, but she'd rather be in pain than this "dumbass" officer.

Richard knelt for awhile as Emelia's words sunk in. His eyes started to show more light again as his face took on signs of worry. What is Emelia saying? A mistake? But she had no choice! I cannot allow her mind to be clouded over something like this!

"I will not accept such a thing, Officer Vanderton!" Richard declared as he stood up and approached Emelia. "You acted in the best way you could in such a volatile situation. Do not think for a moment that you risking your life for mine would have been better! There was no such alternative."

Instinctually, Richard placed his left hand on Emelia's shoulder and slightly creasing his legs to be at eye level. He may have felt pain in his leg as he did this, but it wasn't going to stop him from helping his partner.

"You are an excellent swordswoman and a strong person. My weakness is my own burden to bear, Emelia," Spoke Richard as he gazed directly into Emelia's eyes with his fervor returned. "I believe in you; whether you will accept my words or not, I must speak the truth as I see it! Which is why-"

At that moment, Richard heard footsteps coming this way. One of these sets where from heavy boots like an officer's, meaning that Richard needed to work fast.

"Which is exactly why I must vouch for your actions!" Hurriedly stated Richard as he turned away and assumed a stance at attention. "Follow my lead, Emelia. You have witnessed my posture before so you must emulate it if you wish to succeed at this. I may be a worthless dog, but at least I am capable of helping you in this endeavor!"

After saying this, Richard began adjusting his posture to perfection despite the aches and pains, knowing that this was worth any temporary suffering. I must redeem myself in Emelia's eyes! I have to make sure her talents are not wasted! I cannot falter!

Thomas was deep in thought in the jail cell. Shocked by his cruel fate, he was more silent than usual. A lot of what he was doing was listening to the guards, trying to get a valuable piece of information, but nothing was even remotely worth remembering.

Damn... I never assumed such an adamant officer would be on this. I was careless, and ended up here. No matter what, I will never have a clean slate again. I don't know how long my imprisonment will last... gifted are looked down on, my chances of surviving in court are thin. I'm in a huge pinch. Desmond is trying to interact with Abigail, but she's being deeply silent. No point in seeking out a conversation with her.

Just as he thought, Travis was apprehended by the police. He'd been in prison before, but for less... important reasons. After the whole trying-to-escape-the-pub-then-getting-shot-down-by-a-suspiciously-on-point-officer ordeal, he should be thankful that then gave him such a comfy cell, at least comfortable in comparison to the ones in the Living Quarters. They were even so kind as to remove the arrow that had been lodged in his leg and patched him up real nice. Luckily it din't hit anything important, which coupled with the fact he hadn't gotten severely hurt in the bar brawl was nothing short of a god damn parade of miracles. He looked around the prison and saw that two of the other sane people were in the clink with him as well.

"So, they caught you guys too, huh?" he said to the others.

"Uggh.. you're impossible..." Desmond said to Abigail, a bit annoy that she is giving him the cold shoulder. "I won't be surprise if someone shank you from where you stand..after all,you put half of the gifted here in prison." Without waiting for a response, Desmond left and when to the two guys he met earlier at the bar .

"Can you believe that girl?" Desmond said to Travis and Thomas as he cross his arms."Anyways. yup, i thought we give them the slip. until that hostile lawman showed up." Desmond said to Travis.

"Forgive me for sounding selfish, but this is something I want to do alone," responded Emelia immediately. "Unlike you, I'm not an officer so any consequence will be nothing compared to what would happen to you. Besides, I've lived my life as a masked man so it wouldn't be that difficult to go back to my old ways. Besides, you're a far better cop than what I could become." Emelia had no idea why she was talking to this man in the first place. She hated him. She hated his attitude and his views, but somehow she was being kind to him. Maybe it was because she thought it was the last time she was going to be able to see him in a long time.

Richard began shivering while trying his best to maintain his composure. No! NO! I am the worthless one who cannot quell the wrath of his damned lineage! You may not have powers like me, but you are capable of truly being a savior! Richard ceased his temporary breaking and resumed perfect posture with unrivaled intensity, tightening his muscles as both of his hands white-knuckled.

"I cannot and shall not accept that, Emelia!" Declared Richard as he planted his feet firmly on the ground. "You are too capable to be denied the opportunity to serve Trevalus. Such an injustice is unthinkable! Your masked ways are in the past for you have so much more the accomplish here. It is not fair for this to be end..."

I am truly selfish... But if you were to disappear, then I would be... I do not want to be alone again...
