Rielly987
Ello all Rielly here and wanted to get your opinions on something. As you guys probably know there are 3 stat changing moves that boost the selected stat by 3 times. Belly Drum for attack Firefly Light for Sp Attk. (Tail Glow in English Ty Krim) and finally there is COTTON GUARD. Currently i think we have every Cotton Guardian possible in the game. Maractus who is in hiding in plain sight for players ahead of the game. Whimsicott Ampharos Altaria Furfrou Slurpuff Jumpluff Now for what im trying to get done is get a good defensive pokemon for my team. Of course there are pure defense options out there that don't need Cotton Guard to succeed BUT this is what I'd like to have on my team so I'm going for it. I just want your opinion on which one you guys think is best and why. Quickly reading off thier defense stats in base and some important skills Jumpluff 70 All Powders, Synthesis, Sunny Day. (Leaf Guard and Chlorophyll) Slurpuff 86 Wish, Light Screen, Play Nice, Fake Tears, Draining Kiss, Safe Guard Furfruo 60 Baby Doll Eyes, Charm, Sand Attack, Tail Whip, Headbutt (Fur Coat Halves Physical Damage) Altaria 90 Sing, Mist, Refresh, Roost, Dragon Dance, Sky Attack, Perish Song (Cloud Nine and Might have a Mega at some point in the future) Ampharos 75 Thunder Wave, Light Screen, Electric Terrain, Confuse Ray, Sand Attack, Thunder, Dragon Pulse, Signal Beam. (Will have Mega at some point.) Whimsicott 85 Growth, Leech Seed, Tailwind, Captive, Grass Whistle, Charm, Stun Spore, Poison Powder, Giga Drain, Moonblast, (Prankster Makes its moves go first) Tricky Maractus 67 Spiky Shield, Acupressure, Ingrain, Synthesis, Grassy Terrain, Leech Seed, Giga Drain, (Storm Drain and Water Absorb make it a fantastic water type check) I KNOW THAT'S ALOT but honestly while each one has their perks Im curious to see what you all think. krim
Not sure how it'll stack up in Reborn, but altaria has always been one of my favorite pokemon in the lower tiers from a competitive standpoint. Has healing and setup to make that defense boost worth it, and overall pretty good coverage. And IIRC the English name is Tail Glow. Edit: Perish Song is incredibly useful in Reborn by the way, especially doubles since in my experience most AIs don't switch even though they'll die. (I use it on my absol, then switch to scolipede, protect spam and watch things get KOed.) Edited December 15, 2014 by DragonMasterKrim
Deleted User
Without access to Mega, I'd go Whimsicott or Ampharos depending on whether you want more stally or more tanky.
Guzam
Why do I not see Banette on this list? It learns Cotton Guard. Don't know why but it does. Don't know if it's a tutor move or egg move though. I understand why it has the move now. It's because it's a doll. Dolls are usually filled with cotton right? something along those lines idk. Edit: Also is Maractus hiding? I'd like to think it's actually in plain sight, what with it having an egg sprite for the overworld. You could only get cotton guard on banette in 5th gen, through dream world. Not sure what this means for banette getting it in Reborn though. Wizardchu
I'd say if you want a good cotton guard user, ampharos is your mon. It has an unusually good movepool for reborn and only one weakness.
Rielly987
Banette WOULD be on this list if it learned Cotton Guard by Egg moves or Tutor but it doesn't actually. It only knows the move Cotton Guard if it was obtained through a wifi event and while i love it as a pokemon it can't learn it in Reborn. Reborn is actually the reason I barely included TM's in the known moves tid bit. These are the best natural Cotton Guard pokemon but as for Banette... It has Will-o-Wisp which is godly for a defense pokemon in Mega it has prankster which is a godsent. It has knock off which is nice and Trick for item movement. Screech is good for a stat lowering move. Hex if you have will-o-wisp for an attack or Shadow Force. Also idk how event pokemon moves work but since its an event pokemon all Egg moves are out of play. Calm mind, Toxic and protect would be great tms... if we could get them... While 75 x 4 =300 defense which is great but it has a harsh time dealing with spattkers and it has no base recovery. so it doesn't mark high on my list.
