alabama's defensive coordinator kevin steele coming to lsu :>

hopefully we'll see a better defense in these upcoming years

Great news. Because that means Penn State Defensive Coordinator Bob Shoop won't be leaving for LSU. Also Alabama loses something I guess? Why would he leave Alabama for LSU? Did he get a pay raise at least?

I thought Alabama's DC was Kirby Smart? Did he leave last year for an HC job and I missed it?

EDIT: Steele was Alabama's Linebackers' coach. It was a diagonal moves from Defensive unit coach to DC.

Alright that makes way more sense. I wouldn't have understood leaving the most perennial power house, especially defensive, for a lateral move to a rival.

Ok i was wrong

Behind last year's 98, this year's 74 underclassmen declaring early is the second-most ever to enter the draft. It marks the first time in seven years that the underclassmen number is not an increase from the previous year (2014: 98, 2013: 73, 2012: 65, 2011: 56, 2010: 53, 2009: 46).

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS week one:

Mississippi State plays Western Michigan on the road in Kalamazoo. WMU has one of the toughest schedules in the country - and is in great position to beat -someone-.

Chris Pedersen and his Washington Huskies are going to the place that Pederson formerly put on the map. Boise State.

Saturday numero tres, viva la gameday...

Ole Miss over Alabama

Alabama's biggest hope winning today is the Tuscaloosa crowd, because Ole Miss is probably the best looking SEC team in the nation. The FPI gives the Rebs an advantage in this game due to it's shockingly efficient offense under Bo Wallace replacement Chad Kelly. The Tide also have to contend with one of the fastest defenses they will see all year. All that being said, the Rebels have not been "tested" like 'Bama has. I'm picking Hotty Toddy over Saban Nation simply because I don't like anything about Alabama. Roll Tears Roll.

Georgia Tech over Notre Dame

There won't be any luck for the Irish today unless they have the same juice Ohio State's back-up quarterbacks had last season. Tech is bring the most deadly Triple Option offense into this game, and is the best looking ACC team so far this season. Given how well Virginia played offensively against Notre Dame last week, the defense will need to feed off of the South Bend crowd to keep their undefeated season alive another week, and the option is an absolute nightmare to defend if it's on point.

Louisiana State over Auburn

LSU is not Jacksonville State. Auburn is not playing at Jordan-Hare. Leonard Fournette is on my Heisman Watch List. Auburn remaining in the top 25 after this game is a long shot, and this battle of ranked teams won't even be that close, but I can't be wrong, because the Tigers will for sure win this game.

BRIGHAM YOUNG over California - Los Angeles

My ranked vs ranked upset bid this week is the Hail Mary Mormons keeping their immaculate playoff resume on track and the Cougars on the fast track for busting the College Football Playoff bracket. BYU has a real gamer in it's back-up Tanner Mangham, and UCLA hasn't really been tested enough this pre-season to stand out. That being said, it will be tough for BYU to win on the road against what appears to be a humming Bruin offense.

I don't know much about the Alabama squad this year yet, but I do know the Ole Miss has one hell of a high power offense. Will be a good watch.

Notre Dame's backup easily outperformed Malik Zaire when coming in last week, imagine how he'll do with all this prep time, I like Georgia Tech.... but I'm picking the Irish.

I still think LSU will win, but it'll be closer than you and many others anticipate. I think Auburn will make some serious adjustments, there's just no way Malzahn who makes his name on offense allows things to remain as stagnant as they are. He'll make adjustments and always seems to have SOMETHING up his sleeve.

Don't know enough about BYU or Cal to really say here, but go Golden Bears.

Ole Miss jumped all the way into the current Playoff Bracket (3rd) in the Associated Press Poll, and the top of the bubble on the Coaches Poll (5th)

Even more surprisingly, Alabama was reasonably bounced all the way down to 12th, under the notion that the Tide have the best loss and are the best one-loss team in the country. Oregon is sitting at 13th

Personally, I think the Ducks going ON THE ROAD to Michigan State and playing BETTER THAN EXPECTED in the game is indicative of Oregon holding the better loss than Bama. There seems to be some forgiveness to the Crimson Tide here - who lost in front of a friendly crowd in Tuscaloosa and the pundits in Vegas in their back pocket.

I would have Oregon 12th and 'Bama behind them.
