NickCrash
Greetings pokemasters! I've been around OU lately and thought of making a new team with pokemon I haven't had experience with, buuuut might have a good synergy with each other. I am not quite sure whether they are good enough, and that's why I'm here. I'll need your suggestions and criticism to improve the team and myself whilst playing. The early form of the team included normal Latias and a mega Metagross, however I didn't like too much psychic in the team, as knock off and ghost attacks have gained much popularity. If you have suggestions that include those too, I'd be more than happy to hear them. Shall we? OU Team 3.3 Thundurus @ Life Orb Ability: Prankster EVs: 4 Def / 252 SpA / 252 Spe Timid Nature - Thunder Wave - Thunderbolt - Hidden Power [ice] - Focus Blast Special late game sweeper and support of the team. His great Spe and SpA is a niche against strong and common sweepers who have the speed needed to pack a punch. If speed is still an issue, prankster t-wave solves the problem. T-bolt for STAB, HP ice for coverage (you'd be surprised as to how strong it hits) and Focus Miss for those threats that deserve the risk and need to be put down immediately. Latias (F) @ Latiasite Ability: Levitate EVs: 108 HP / 220 SpA / 180 SpD Modest Nature - Draco Meteor - Psyshock - Ice Beam - Recover Special tank. Up until now I've been using it as a normal wall who can take hits, recover and hit back as if nothing happened. Not any more. Not sure what its moveset should be, however I have psyshock and ice beam there for a nice coverage, and draco meteor for a strong hit, that I really want me to guarantee the kill. Probably going to switch recover for wish, to pass health to more members. The extra defensive boost the mega provides me, helps stay long enough to score the kills needed for the team to win. Conkeldurr @ Life Orb Ability: Iron Fist EVs: 116 HP / 192 Atk / 200 SpD Adamant Nature - Mach Punch - Knock Off - Drain Punch - Facade To be honest, I've never used Conkeldurr before, so please excuse me if the EV spread is that bad. Mach Punch is there mainly for priority boosted mach punch, as this team lacks priority in general. Drain punch helps recover some of the lost health, while knock off causes trouble to the ghosts sent against me. Facade is there merely in the case something burns me, because I couldn't think of an appropriate move to put in that position, which would help and cover types that other pokemon can. I thought of ice punch, but I already have two ice moves there. Three is a crowd. Facade surprises people. Landorus-Therian @ Rocky Helmet Ability: Intimidate EVs: 252 HP / 96 Atk / 160 Def Impish Nature - Stealth Rock - Earthquake - U-turn - Stone Edge Oh, my fluffy kitten of death. Great for stopping physical attackers on their tracks, send some rocks flying and fly away with a u-turn, when they switch to face me. Sly tiger has those fast physical sweepers think twice before attacking, because it read the safety manual and is now wearing a helmet. EQ and Stone Edge, for extra coverage and the first for nice STAB to kill most things or bring them down enough for the faster members to destroy. Given you see this often scarfed, I'd rather have it as a physical tank which can take care of its scarfed counterpart anytime. Rotom-Wash @ Choice Specs Ability: Levitate EVs: 108 Def / 252 SpA / 148 Spe Timid Nature - Trick - Hydro Pump - Volt Switch - Will-O-Wisp Little Wash-E is another supporting member of the team. HydroPump gets a nice STAB attack while volt switch helps alternate between Rotom and Lando-t. Rotom is just a bit bulky on the physical side to reduce certain hits, just enough not to go over 50%. It has the only weakness of Grass (if you disregard mold breaker), which is quite helpful. Even so, there are other members to take the Grass attacks and retaliate hard enough. Will o wisp, to further cripple physical attackers. The choice specs is there to pack enough of a punch to special walls like Heatran that are now prominent in the gameplay. Bisharp @ Lum Berry Ability: Defiant EVs: 108 HP / 220 Atk / 180 Def Adamant Nature - Swords Dance - Night Slash - Iron Head - Sucker Punch Another fellow I've never used before. Lum Berry to get rid of a possible burn. SD to rise its deadliness and the others are STAB attacks. I prefer NS over knock off, due to my having a "knock offer" (punpun) and sucker punch for a somewhat priority. Iron head for STAB and killing fairies, rocks, and ice. I guess you can consider him the main physical sweeper, but since this team is really slow, I couldn't count on a sweep. He is there to hit hard when possible and rip holes when he has the chance. So what do you think? This is probably not the best team around, but with your help it can become decent enough. Thanks. Omega_Ra1der
i don't blame you for bad ev spread on conkledurr but redirect the evs to attack(phy) and defense(phy) stats. Edited December 28, 2014 by OmegaRa1der
Magus
I suggest 2 things 1) Conceldurr can work better with the Assault vest, it gives him that extra special def, and then you can invest a little more into attack or HP if you need to. 2) I suggest running pursuit on Bisharp, as he is the best counter to the Lati twins and life orb will boost his kill potential. bisharp really doesn't need SD because his ability gives him free boosts on intimidate users Edited December 28, 2014 by Magus
Jelly
replace night slash with knock off on bisharp imho
Kamina
Team does not seem that bad. Your team is weak to latios and latias draco spam so I agree with magus to give bisharp pursuit so that you can revenge kill them more easily. You do have one knock offer but having another one should not be that detrimental to your team. Also, if you are going to run facade on Conkeldurr, I feel like you should also run guts on it to give it an even bigger boost and to also counter opposing rotom-w a lot better. You mentioned that you had specs rotom-w so that you can deal with heatran better but, even without a specs, a bulky rotom-w can also easily beat a heatran 1v1. I would suggest getting rid of the spec and giving it some bulk just so that you have another check to talonflame and also so that it can beat other variants of heatran. Rotom-Wash @ Leftovers Ability: Levitate EVs: 252 HP / 116 SpD / 140 Spe Calm Nature - Volt Switch - Hydro Pump - Will-O-Wisp - Pain Split Is the set that I recommend. The speed eves are there to beat other base 100 speed pokes who are not invested at all in speed. As for latias, I think ice beam seems a bit redundant when draco meteor already hits dragons and should one shot most lando-t / gliscor set (plus you already have hp ice on Thundurus). If you are going to run wish on latias, then also give it protect so that it has a reliable way of healing itself if it has too (instead of ice beam). NickCrash
Alright, thanks to all of you for your comments and suggestions. I'm currently trying them out, to see how they work. It seems that the team keeps improving.
Void
you could try this over your current bisharp to make a it a more solid answer to lati@s Bisharp @ Assault Vest Ability: Defiant EVs: 64 HP / 252 Atk / 192 SpD Adamant Nature - Knock Off - Sucker Punch - Iron Head - Pursuit otherwise LO latios draco meteor is a 2hko, forcing you into a 50/50 (sucker predicting the attack or pursuit predicting the switch) against it every time Edited December 29, 2014 by Void
NickCrash
This helps a lot actually. I've seen that kind of Bisharp be used against my Latias as well. Would it be more beneficial if I changed the last two members completely and substituted them for Gyarados and Heatran?Like this: Poseidon (Gyarados) @ Gyaradosite Ability: Intimidate EVs: 232 Atk / 80 SpD / 196 Spe Adamant Nature - Waterfall - Crunch - Dragon Dance - Earthquake Hephaestus (Heatran) @ Leftovers Ability: Flash Fire EVs: 72 HP / 196 SpA / 240 SpD Modest Nature - Lava Plume - Earth Power - Toxic - Flash Cannon It changes quite some things. (mainly that latias becomes a normal one, rather than a mega)
