Zane0144
Make your starter a random early poke you can catch like whismur, budew, grimer, etc. in my experience it makes you more attached. I'd not then just pick a good one like froakie, torchic, or something
LittleDevilex
I would go with Chimchar or Froakie. I wish we could chose Eevee as starter.
GhostKiller
Chimchar. His Fighting Type would help you at the second Gym.
Lostelle
Chimchar, Fennekin, Torchic, & Froakie are the best starters, Treeko is also very good. I just used Fennekin, Delphox is a great attacker.

Besides that, I agree.

Komodojoe
Well, I would probably go for Totodile because of Sheer Force, Chimchar because of Iron Fist, Torchic because of Speed Boost, or Froakie because of Protean. Although, you could also pick Charmander for a sun team or Squirtle for a rain team, though I've never used a weather-based team before so I'm not exactly sure how well that will work in the long run. Omega_Ra1der
meganium is a tricky starter because it's basic role which support but its real high damage output comes with poison powder+any grass type attack. Personthing
Chikorita isn't too awful from the get go, but it starts to struggle at the Japser Ward, and it will keep on struggling afterwards. I mean, most of the areas and gym leaders afterwards either resist Grass, or are super effective against Grass. If you want an easier time, Blaziken and Infernape are pretty great. However, Typhlosion gets some bonus utility as well, due to Eruption both trigging the Burning Field arena effect in a number of areas, and quite a few gym leaders being double battles. Rawr-Ma-Ama
If you want easy-modo, take speed-boost Blaziken, Infernape or protean Greninja. I chose Blaziken on my second playthrough tho, so call be a noob. My main is Roserade anyway brb owning the game with Meganium... That´s the spirit! Do a grass-mono with Meganium and make Fern look pathetic. Edited February 8, 2015 by UnprofessionalAmateur

ShatteredSkys
*cough* shelly, aya*cough* In all honesty even though I began with Chikarita Aya was the easiest gym I faced.
Jean mi
*cough* shelly, aya*cough* You know, you don't have to use Meganium alone, there are 5 other slots in your team. Golem for example covers Meganium's weaknesses pretty well.
NickCrash
The point is that 1 slot will be essentially empty in that battle. Anyway, happy that more people are going to use that dinosaur with a flower in its neck now.
Jean mi
The point is that 1 slot will be essentially empty in that battle. Anyway, happy that more people are going to use that dinosaur with a flower in its neck now. That's the case almost all the time. The gym leaders are specialised in one type so the pokemon in your that is weak to that type is near useless. The Tangrowth is my team is not very useful against Charlotte so is it bad ? No. Meganium can still be useful though, it can at least set up a reflect or light screen to support the team before dying.
