LittleDevilex
That's the case almost all the time. The gym leaders are specialised in one type so the pokemon in your that is weak to that type is near useless. The Tangrowth is my team is not very useful against Charlotte so is it bad ? No. Meganium can still be useful though, it can at least set up a reflect or light screen to support the team before dying. It is useless if you compare it to the other starters who can sweep whole teams.
Jean mi
It is useless if you compare it to the other starters who can sweep whole teams. Or... Meganium sets up screens that helps a partner to sweep a whole team. Sure Meganium won't sweep, it's not a sweeper, it's a supporter, it doesn't mean it's useless. LittleDevilex
I know what a supporter is, my favorite pokemon is Umbreon, but Meganiums is just bad, to put it mildly.
Cgamer12
I chose Torchic and had no idea it would have speed boost on it. Torchic is quite a usefull starter especially if your running speed boost on it Edited February 12, 2015 by Cgamer12
gryson
i started a game witch almost every starter. only first gen starters ,fifth gen starters and chikorita availlable.... dont know who to pick next, Venusaur is nice pokemon but not so good moveset, charizard is overused and blastoise.. (i dont konw) and i dont really like 5th gen
Lostelle
Gen III & Gen IV have great starters to pick from. Gen IV in particular are all great, Blaziken & Sceptile are good too.

Lostelle
ive already played reborn with every starter from these generations Well, if you want the challenge, use the Pokémon with a lackluster moveset, (Venusaur), and a defensive turtle with lacking offenses (Blastoise.) Autumn Rain
Isn't it possible to beat Reborn without your starter? Of course grinding and team building would be a pain.
Lostelle
Isn't it possible to beat Reborn without your starter? Of course grinding and team building would be a pain. Any game is really; I just like to stick with what I get, ya feel? never forget where you came from~ Edited February 14, 2015 by Lostelle
NickCrash
Any team is possible without a starter. However it's much better to have a handicap, as starters are usually good pokemon in the end, and build the team using the ones you get. In Reborn, it is not the case, as the pokemon you get early game are sub-par. Therefore you usually build around your starter. Everything can be utilized if you have a plan in mind. Every starter is equal, but some are more equal than others...
gryson
should i wait for the next episode to come out before i start a new game? or is the release of episode 15 not close
Deleted User
Episode 15 is not close really. 14.5 Still has some time to go which isn't even a content release but rather Reborn fixing a whole slew of things that hadn't worked before as well as improving those that did. 15 is still quite a bit away. Aurorix
If you haven't gotten one yet I recommend Frokie because datt protean
Lostelle
Froakie is definitely useful, however the lack of a strong water-type move until later in the game is definitely a hindrance.

Helia
I may be biased, but.... Let me just refer you to Bulbapedia: Trivia Swampert has the highest base stat total of all fully evolved starter Pokémon. Swampert and its pre-evolution Marshtomp are the only starter Pokémon to have a 4× weakness against another starter type. Swampert has the fewest weaknesses of any starter. We seem to have a winner.
