Commander
Just a heads up about the Best Buy Meta Knight Amiibo exclusive. Even if you don't want it, stop by Best Buy anyways as they're handing out $5 off coupons on any Wii U/3DS Game. My store had plenty in so I got a Meta Knight. He's going to completely and utterly destroy me. (at least this isn't Brawl)

Flux
So... can someone explain to me what Amiibos really do? And why they're such a big deal? They don't seem like something I would expect a lot of people to spend money on, yet apparently they sell like crazy. Then again, I'm pretty in the dark about them... Another Felix
You can train them to fight in Smash Bros, up to the level of an SNK boss. That's the main feature. They're also used to unlock some other stuff in games, like Link's unlocks a new weapon in Hyrule Warriors. My Sanic came in, I picked up Sheik this weekend, and I ordered a Fox on eBay for $21. Saving some money by not getting any of Wave 4.

They don't seem like something I would expect a lot of people to spend money on, yet apparently they sell like crazy. Then again, I'm pretty in the dark about them... Flux, I was kind of like you when I first saw them which is why I only got the Marth Amiibo originally. They actually do quite a bit of stuff, but smash bros (mario party is doing a lot with 'em too) is the most noticeable so far. Level one up to level 50 and they can kick your ass. I don't mean just kick, but can absolutely dominate you. I trained up Marth and Meta Knight up to 50 and my main, Ganondorf, is the only one I can beat them with due to an exploit. Just pick one up and you'd understand the pain and suffering. Beating an amiibo with the same character is very, very difficult (glares at Marth Amiibo). Even if you don't care about the game capabilities, they look very nice and are well detailed (with a couple minor paint errors once in a while). I can take a couple pictures if you want to see any of mine. Toon Link and Rosalina are probably my favorite to look at.

Flux
Well, maybe I'll pick up a Marth Amiibo sometime, just to see what they're all about. He is my favorite character after all, so it can't hurt. Edit: Holy cow, it's forty bucks?! What are these things priced at when they release?! Maelstrom
Well, maybe I'll pick up a Marth Amiibo sometime, just to see what they're all about. He is my favorite character after all, so it can't hurt. You can't get one unless you pay a ridiculous amount. They're really rare cuz they barely made any for some reason. Like some other characters. In any case, amiibos are actually pretty nice figurines with the added bonus of some very small functionality with smash and some other games, like Hyrule Warriors and MK8. Even STEAM makes use of the FE characters. TBH, the in-game functionality of the amiibos is disappointingly small. It's really more trouble than it's worth to constantly put your amiibo on the pad to bring it out for a battle, to save everytime you back out of the smash screen, then load at the amiibo screen and go through a mess to acquire the measly coins and items it picks up during battle and again to save that. I still recommend going out and getting your favorites, but it's not worth it to get the ones that aren't just to collect them all. Nintendo has bungled things again. Commander
You might be able to find some in the next wave because they should be getting more in because of Codename Steam.
Godot
Grab amiibos for games that YOU WILL PLAY. For example, I Have most of the Zelda Characters because I enjoy the legend of Zelda games. Hyrule Warriors and Zelda U will/does have Amiibo functionality. Also grab favorites, because in certain games they unlock content or even summon the characters themselves in other games. Ie. The Fire Emblem characters are only playable in Code Name STEAM if you have their amiibos. And in Mario Kart 8 You unlock special costumes for you Mii's based on your amiibos. I love Metroid and Star Fox so I rock my Samus and Fox Mii pretty often when I play the game. I am also sure Animal Crossing will use the holy hell out of the Amiibos. And I am pretty sure Zelda U, Star Fox U, and Pokken will have their own AMIIBO sets.
Commander
You can try all you like but you can't escape the craze that is amiibos. Even if it is simple things, they do more compared to Disney infinity and Skylanders. I'm mostly collecting the Fire Emblem, Kirby, Mario, and Zelda Figures. Godot
I want almost all of the wave 4 amiibos. With the one exception being Wario.
Another Felix
Even though I play PAC-MAN, I'm not getting any of Wave 4.
Flux
Feel like if I do end up getting more than just Marth, I'll probably aim for Fire Emblem and Zelda Amiibos and maybe Meta Knight. That'd be about the extent of my interest.
Another Felix
Good luck getting any FE characters or Meta Knight.
Flux
Well then again, that's if I even get ANY. The only somewhat interesting functionality to me so far is a difficult Smash AI... and it's not worth 40 bucks.
Another Felix
So pick up a common and see if you like training them. Most of the Mario characters (including the Kongs) are really easy to find at retail.
Commander
Good luck getting any FE characters or Meta Knight. ALL I WANT IS MY IKE DAMMIT! Hopefully they'll be in stores soon since that port strike is over. Also, I was lucky to get a Meta Knight (now all I need is Dedede). Commander
So preorders start today at 1 CT if you are American. Ness is exclusive to Gamestop, and Jigglypuff is exclusive to Target. Greninja is a Toys 'R Us exclusive. Jigglypuff should be able to preorder soon. As for the gamestop pre-orders, you should be able to get them at 3pm ET and 2pm CT, but doing it this way will get them shipped to your house. Edit: Jigglypuff is gone. I managed to get one, but I'm sure it'll be back. Edit 2: Nevermind, seems like the computer glitched out on me. Seriously, it's Jigglypuff. How the hell does that sell out in 7 minutes? Godot
Remember, target is kinda stupid when it comes to this stuff. Greninja will be available tomorrow. Edit: Uuuug, late to work waiting in line for my preorders.
