Wah! Nina was startled when someone yanked her arm. Is everybody like this? Feels like my arms are going to fall off. "Umm...did we introduce ourselves? I can't remember if we did or not. Either way, I'm Nina. Hmm...there really isn't anything too special about me. How about you?"

Karrin released her grip but kept walking, hoping Nina would follow. "I'm Karrin. I guess the most notable thing about me is how quickly my mood changes. Not like mood swings really, it's just that one moment you'll have this nice, calm me and the next you'll have an angry lunatic and after that a bawling widdle baby. Although, you have to have something about you, ya know?" Karrin said with a giggle. She remembered telling a few of her old friends this when she first met them and how they met the statement with shock, amused disbelief and in one case genuine acceptance, though it seemed more like she had come to terms with a death sentence than knowing Karrin...

"Your name's not that weird, After all I'm named after an instrument." Lyre said well smiling sheepishly." Ummm?" she continued "Whats the whole partner thing anyway? I kind offf wasn't paying attention during that part of the orientation Sooo I'm kind of confused about that, but no I don't have one anyway" She said well kind of knocking herself on the head.

"If I heard right, we're supposed to find someone either six months older or younger than us." Arya explained. she turned slightly and glanced over towards Vivienne in the distance. "And if you haven't found anyone yet, I might be able to help; See the girl with green hair sitting alone?" hopefully this goes well... I just don't know what I'm going to say to vivienne though...

"Oh so that's it. Umm that' different then before sounds interesting." Lyre said looking over at the green haired girl, well holding her spoon to her lower lip. "I ran into her, she asked me to sit with her and then wandered off before I had a chance to answer her on that. Shes reallllly flighty." she said well puffing her cheeks in annoyance from recalling that encounter.

"Oh, so you're like a ticking time bomb. That's nice to know," Nina responded in a friendly manner. This didn't seem to bother as much as it should because of that fact she was happy someone actually picked her instead of the other way around. "You're not going to beat me up or anything, are you? I don't want to be covered in bruises everyday."

After close to ten minutes of uninterrupted staring, Natalie was still not looking Rein's way. Rein, slightly annoyed, decided to forsake that particular endeavour. As she scanned the room anew, she spotted Lilith - the young girl who had declared as Laylite late - sitting alone at a table in the corner of the hall.

Deciding that Natalie would come find her later if necessary, Rein strode over to Lilith's table, sitting herself down across from Lilith. Without a word, she began tearing into her now-cold mashed potatoes.

Lilith was a bit surprised to have someone else sit down with her. Most everyone was sitting with their friends, something Lilith was sorely lacking. She kind of regretted running away from the one annoying girl, even if she was annoying, she would have been someone to talk to. Maybe she had a shot at that here. This new girl seemed much quieter, considering she had yet to speak. Lilith was a bit frightened of starting a conversation with someone she didn't know, but she was also feeling really lonely.

"Um, hello." She said quietly.

It wasn't much, but it was all she could muster. She grabbed her cup with both hands and pulled it to her face, taking a sip of the pink liquid. She was a bit shocked at how sour it was, but it was sweet at the same time. She would have to find out what it was called, because it was amazing,

Karrin looked at Nina with a perplexed expression. "Who beats up people they just met? Aside for Natalie and that Rein girl." Karrin corrected herself quickly. Then she thought back to her old friends for a second. "Well, I guess the extent to which I might beat you up is a thwack on the head. But that's all I swear! And it only happens when you do something daft, promise!" Karrin swore to Nina. Karrin actually did hit her friends more often than she should... But really only when they deserved it. Primarily when they got on her nerves... but Nina didn't seem annoying, so it should be fine~

Yeah, I know... "Wait," Arya said, processing what exactly she'd heard. This might not be as easy as just introducing them and leaving while they hit it off... "So you've already met her then? Well... " She thought quickly to herself, working out how to make the offer seem attractive, then... "Yeah," Arya said, sighing in a bit of sympathy to the girl. "She may seem flighty and all, but it's only the first day- and we're all new here and everything... maybe she's just seems flighty because she's nervous and maybe has a bit trouble adjusting? Happens to the best of us afterall, right?"

"Hmmm...I guess." Lyre said turning back to Arya "Though she didn't even introduce herself after I introduced myself. That's just rude." she said well puffing her cheeks a bit more.

Looking at Arya her puffed cheeks turned into a slight sly smile then back into her blank smile "So Arya what about you? You don't seem to have partner yet, but you're awfully concerned about others not having one." she said well smiling.

"Hehehe," Nina laughed nerviously. "That might be a problem. My previous partners often scolded me, but I can't remember exactly why. You'd think I'd remember something like that. Oh well! As long as you promise not to beat me up, we'll be fine."

I can tell when I'm being baited... Arya merely shrugged her shoulders. "I've just honestly never had any issues finding partners before- I always just let it happen as it happens, leave it all to fate... so I'm not really all that worried." she gave a bit of her own smile now to meet Lyre's, maintaining her tone just as it had been when she'd first sat down. "Anyway... I just saw you sitting here all alone and everything, and you looked like something was bothering you, so... I just wanted to see if I could help or something..."

Viviennesat at the table and observed what happened around her. Everyone was smiling, laughing, and having a good time. She pulled her cell phone out of her back pocket and started Candy Crushing.

"Awww, thats sweet Arya, but I'm okay now. I guess I just needed someone to talk to." Lyre said with a shy smile and a slight blush. "You know that's usually how I find partners as well. It can make for some umm...interesting partnerships sometimes." She said as she moved her tray to the side and pull two wrapped chocolate truffles from her bag opening one and eating it well offering the other one to Arya with a smile.

Rein looked up from her potatoes as the soft-voiced girl spoke up.

She took in the girl's appearance. Beautiful black hair, standing in stark contrast to striking yellow eyes. If she let her hair hang loose rather than holding it in a bun, she would look way cuter. Maybe add a ribbon in her hair? She would definitely be super cute.

She watched as the girl took a sip of her beverage, making a shocked expression, which quickly morphed into an expression of delight. Rein's lips curled ever so slightly into the shadow of a smile at this display, which quickly faded to her usual blank expression.

"Hello. Rein."

She was about to go back to her potatoes, but after some thought, extended her hand to Lilith instead.

"Laylite. Same."

Lilith stared at the hand for a moment. She wasn't one for handshakes, but it felt rude to just make Rein sit there hanging. Then she heard that dreadful word, "Laylite." With that she definitely wasn't shaking any hands. The people bugging her because of her odd declaration were bad enough, and now it was another Laylite. Lilith didn't like other Laylites, they seemed to care for nothing so long as they personally became stronger. Even Lilith's own mother had been willing to trample on her dignity when needed. She couldn't stand the way they treated others, and even worse was how they hypocritically criticized the Kallistle priestesses. Lilith agreed that Kalo's ruling body was corrupted and broken, but other Laylites were no better. She prayed every night to Layla for an explanation, she couldn't understand how one could want power purely for themselves. Was power not best used to help others? And then Fear, what to do with Fear. The original Laylite scrolls said that one should Fear many things, but nowhere had they stated that one should try to induce Fear in others. Fear was not a weapon, it was a shield, it existed to show one the limits of their power. Fear kept one out of danger. Fear taught one to respect those around them. The endless ambition of people like her mother was what had held Lilith back from declaring. She believed with all her heart that Power was a worthy goal in life, for one could not lift others up without first lifting themselves up. But the people around her had always taught her that Fear was worthless except as a weapon. Lilith couldn't respect them, and thus she did not Fear their rules. The other reason she had declared openly, was because she was not afraid of the consequences. She wasn't scared of punishment, and the only real punishment she could be given was Fear.

Lilith snapped out of her thoughts, realizing the hand was still there. She changed her mind, she would shake hands with this girl, if only to prove to herself she wasn't afraid. She extended her arm and gave a confident, yet delicate, shake.

"L-Layla, erm, Lilith." She stuttered, "N-nice to meet you, R-rein."

Well, that was a fail. She thought, cringing inwardly.

Rein nodded as Lilith returned her greeting. She could feel the resolve in Lilith's firm grip - resolve to accomplish what, she had no idea; but resolve was generally a positive emotion.

Rein had noticed Lilith's stuttering, but she simply ignored it. Laughing at others' mistakes was not a habit of hers. It was pointless, inane, and unnecessary effort. Besides, she felt a sort of closeness with this girl who exuded a blinding aura of loneliness and isolation... perhaps because Rein herself often cloaked herself in isolation as well - though in Rein's case it was fully conscious, voluntary, self-propagated isolation, while Lilith's isolation seemed like it was forced upon her somehow: she was clearly uncomfortable amidst that seclusion.

Satisfied that she had properly introduced herself to the mild-mannered girl, she went back to her food.

Layla sat in silence for what felt like ages. Rein didn't seem to be anything special, she fit the standard for Laylites that Lilith had come to recognize. She was kind of a loner, yet Though oddly Rein's social skills seemed a bit underdeveloped compared to the sweet tongues of women like Lilith's mother. Then again, maybe Rein just saw no reason to use it with Lilith. For once one of her sisters wasn't trying to get something out of her. The silence remained, and was quite awkward. Lilith sat there, sort of stirring her food with her fork. She wanted more than anything to just get up and leave, but told herself that she should stay. Rein might just be another Laylite, or maybe she could just be kind of shy... No, she wasn't shy. Lilith was shy, it had taken her a lot of thought to decide to even shake hands, but Rein had thrust her hand out with nary a thought of hesitation. Lilith sighed, it wasn't as if Rein would be anything new to her. If anything, she'd be easier to deal with since she might not try to sweet talk Lilith for her own benefits like pretty much all the others.

"So, um, Rein." Lilith said, using all her strength to avoid stuttering, "How... How are you?"

It was a weak attempt at making conversation, her mother would have killed her--and she wasn't sure she was exaggerating--if she heard such pitiful whining.

Arya accepted the truffle, giving a quiet "thanks" as she stowed it in her pocket. She was a bit torn as to how to continue now... on the one hand, she could keep going and trying to set this girl up with Vivienne, while on the other- she seemed pretty decent, nice enough...Arya could always take her for her own, afterall...

Maybe I should just take a step back then... She finally thought to herself, looking at Lyre. Actually do what I claimed and let fate decide things... whatever happens... it happens, I guess. "So," she began casually, ironically reminded of Vivienne's attempts at small talk earlier. "What do you think of the school so far?"

"What do I think of this school? Hmm..." Lyre closed her eyes in thought."Well they don't have cake with lunch which is not fun. Hopefully they have some with dinner. The first two people i talked with where kind of rude. Well the first one was probably because of something I said, but the second was just rude. Then i meet you and your a nice person so I think this school will be a lot fun." she said happily with a smile.

Lyre clapped her hands together as she remembered something "So umm...during orientation there was this short blacked haired girl with pretty yellow eyes who said something in front of the class that cause some commotion. I didn't catch her name and what she said...so did you happen catch that bit?" She asked well rubbing her head sheepishly.

As Lilith attempted to start up a conversation again, Rein could not help but marvel. The girl was trying so hard to try and be sociable.

Sociable was not really Rein's thing, far from it, but how could anyone ignore such an earnest plea? She decided to try her best to respond in kind.

She looked up from her food, made eye contact with Lilith's beautiful, yellow pupils, and slightly, ever so slightly, the corners of her lips tugged upwards, gracing Lilith with the hint of a smile.

"Am fine. The potatoes taste good."

Rein toyed with an idea for a while, then spoke up.

"I like you. Friends?"

Mary became a little bewildered as Lexi ran off to the washroom. "Did she really have to go that badly?" Mary's attention was turned to Riley as she asked a fun question. Mary sat still for a short while, at least a minute or two, as she pondered about what she actually likes to do for fun. "For fun? Well other than having fun for fun, I like to hang around people and talk with them. Yeah, I like to talk to people because it is fun. I also do other stuff like board games and puzzles. Not always jigsaw puzzles though, most of the time I do mind puzzles and such but I almost never finish them, it's just something to do to pass the time" Mary responded while flailing her hand all over the place. She never really did do too much for fun, it was never something that she thought about before. "What about you Riley? What do you do for fun, oh, and how long have you known Lexi?" "Might as well make the best of the time being alone with her. I guess this means that she really does wanna be friends with me... Oh this is perfect, new friends on the first day at this school!~" Mary was a little lost in thought after her own little ramble, at least until Riley were to speak to her again.

Riley barely managed to follow along with Mary's ramblings, in fact she didn't really. Most all she managed to pick out were the questions at the end.

"Well, Lexi and I have known each other since we were born. We're practically twins, except we have different moms." She said, "As for what I do for fun, Lexi and I like to play pranks on people. And we play strategy games like chess and stuff. Mostly we just kind of hang out and talk."

Riley was distracted by a sudden buzzing from her pocket. She instinctively reached for it, but stopped herself. Using your phone wasn't allowed except with explicit permission from your teacher, and Riley didn't see Miss Katherine about at the moment to ask.

"So, Mary, since you're going to be hanging out with Lexi and I this year, I guess you should probably partner with one of us. And since I think Lexi is scared of you, it seems that will have to be me." She said, bringing her attention back to the conversation at hand, "So, partner, I've got some ground rules. No visitors in the room until we've both met them and agreed they can come in. So for now just Lexi, and probably that Sharp girl if you're okay with her. And no snacking, I absolutely hate when there's random snack crumbs or wrappers laying around my room."

Riley was sure that, given time, she could find more things to make rules about, but those two seemed fair.

"Oh, and if you've got anything you want me to avoid doing, speak now or forever hold your peace." She added.

Riley realized she had tensed up a ton, and relaxed a bit. She had probably been fairly intimidating, and felt silly for getting so uptight about a couple dorky rules.

Karrin raised her hand as though she was swearing an oath and said in a monotone voice mimicking repetition of a memorised sentence. "I do swear solemnly not to beat you senseless." The blonde giggled. "I don't think i've ever had to explicitly promise that~. I guess this year will be full of firsts"

"I think she was called Lilith, Though I could be wrong..." Arya responded. "I wasn't really listening too much attention to their introduction until after her whole declaration thing, I was honestly more focused on sketching it down. I don't really know what everyone's so shocked about though, what does it matter what she choose or when she choose it- it's her freedom to decide what she wants to believe in, Just like it is for everyone else, isn't it?"

Lilith

Lilith looked about nervously, as though her mother would appear from nowhere and take her away if she said yes.

"Friends, y- yes, I would like that." She said, performing her best smile, which was more of a wince.

"Oh good then, I guess we shall have to be friends as well." A third party added from off to the side.

Lilith nearly jumped out of her skin. Turning, she saw it was Natalie Opium.

"W- w- we w- will?" She stuttered.

"Indeed, Ms. Revynjahlsmyrl here is my partner for the year, so her friends are mine." Natalie said, smiling in an almost genuine manner.

Lilith couldn't tell whether this was some terrible prank, or if Natalie was serious.

"M- Ms. Raving wh- what?" She managed, her mind spinning.

"Ms. Revynjahlsmyrl, you've been speaking to her for the last ten minutes."

"Y- you mean Rein?"

Natalie looked like she was pondering the name for a moment, "Yes, Rein then." she said finally, "Anyways, Lilith, you'll have to excuse me for barging in, but lunch ends soon and I do need to speak with my partner before it ends. Why don't you go hang out with Haley-" she pointed to a pale blue haired girl behind her, "-while Rein and I talk?"

Lilith looked over at Haley, who waved shyly, and decided it was better to go with her than to get in her new "friend's" way.

"O-okay." She said, turning to Rein, "We can talk more later."

Natalie

Now that Lilith was out of the way, Natalie finally had a chance to speak with Rein. Lilith seemed a curious girl, Natalie would certainly be interested in actually befriending her at some point down the line. But for the moment she needed to focus on Rein.

"My apologies for making you wait earlier." She began, "Anyways, for now, I want to explain exactly how this relationship is going to go."

It wasn't as though it was complicated, but Natalie felt the need to lay out the exact terms of their partnership. To her, a partnership was less two friends pairing up for the year, it was a contract between to students with mutually beneficial talents.

"You will be serving as a form of bodyguard. I mostly just need you to be around and look intimidating--which shouldn't be too hard for you--and possibly every now and then, forcefully remove someone from my presence." She said, enunciating her words even more clearly than normal, "In return, I shall use my influence to keep you from being disciplined. Essentially, you shall be free to move about the school and do most anything you wish, so long as it remains legal by federal law."

Natalie had seen Rein's records, she didn't have the cleanest history, and the faculty here were some of the best in the world, they wouldn't go lightly on her. Unless, of course, Natalie intervened.
