Using found pokemon ony

I've decided to use my starter torterra and only pokemon i find(befriend, catch through special means).... always felt pokemon should choose their trainers.

That might be doable. What about pokemon that you have to chase after and then fight in the end?

That should still apply. It isn't a random encounter like say, finding a Bidoof outside the Grand Hall. What about trades though? Often times you'll need to catch some random pokemon to obtain those, but they are certainly special in a way.

uhhh trades i guess count...matter fact yea those work and encounters yea i catch those, for example if theres a random rattata(not using it rattata is nasty but) i'd catch it and like make a story in my head.

So then you can pretty much catch every pokemon as long as you can figure out a backstory?

I'm slightly confused.

*Walking through tall grass*, "Oh look a dratini. It must've run away from his trainer. I'll take it with me."

That kind of thing?

no no i dnt catch pokemon through tall grass i meant like if theres litterally a rattata there in the corner but with no story i'd catch it... now tht u say the term i think i can explain better... No tall grass catches.
