roqi Posted February 28, 2015 Share Posted February 28, 2015 Somebody has probably come up with this before, but I can't be bothered to google. Introducing: Taxonomic Monorun!! (If you have an idea for a more catchy name, I'm open to suggestions.) What is it? Well, simply, a monorun of Pokemon based on animals from the same taxonomic phylum/class/order/whatever. Even simplier: a primate monorun, a bird monorun, a canine monorun... The first from these examples would go: Chimchar, the three Pans, Mankey annnd... Meditite, perhaps? The second, Piplup, then a wiiide variety. It would be almost like a Flying monotype, but not quite. The third would have to go with Fennekin, and then could go with Vulpix, Eeveelutions, Growlithe, Furfrou, Snubbull, Lillipup, Zorua... maybe others. Probably not Poochyena though, as hyenas are not canines. There's many other possibilities: amphibian, feline, lizard, rodent, dinosaur, fish, ungulate... I think it sounds interesting, and definitely challenging... with possibly a lot of looking up a Pokemon's origins to see if you're allowed to have it. xD Maybe also an Object Monorun, where you get only 'mons based on items (i.e. not animals or plants), like Vanillite, Grimer, Rotom etc... The frogs are also a possibility. Same for the reptiles (snakes, krokodiles, turtles). But Deoxys is a virus, viruses are not organisms at all-! But for microorganisms you could go with... Reuniclus? And um... Parasect. Because it's a bug controlled by fungi. Or something. (could anyone tell if this thing is single-celled or not? It even states that they drop blobs of themselves that turn into smaller grimers on the way; that sounds pretty unicelular to me). Also, maybe Ditto. With a big stretch, maybe Mew (it's like one of those stem cells that can do anything, similar to Ditto), Togepi (the insides of an egg is a single giant cell at first, maybe togepi is a single-celled organism) and Jumpluff (if it's a spore, maybe it's unicelular as well). So yeah, for this monorun you just need to find two of the rarest normal types, an average poison type, a decent psychic type and two psychic legendaries. Lol. EDIT: Parasect as Roqi suggested is not a bad addition, and I thought that maybe Swalot, Castform and Goomy could fit into this classification, with a bit of stretch but oh well. While a lot of Pokemon draw from certain influences, that doesn't necessarily mean they exactly fit that description or that they stay true to that influence. As like above, some people believe the Eevees are foxes, other think they are closer to rabbits, some think they are raccoons, or other small mammals like cats... and well, they aren't exactly wrong. We Don;t truly know what Eevee/it evos are, because they aren't any of those creatures. Heck... some of the evos are more like other animals in this example. ((Like Espeon and Sylveon are more cat-like while Jolteon is much more fox like to a degree.)), Nothing is really set in stone... because well... we really don't know lol. But, yeah 'course, some Pokemon's influences are more obvious than others, and it should be up to the player to decide. As a community we could never agree on what is what lol. Let's not even touch the box of wasps that is Johto's legendary trio... Oh, another idea, would be humanlike Pokemon.
