Top Ten Pokemon Locales

Chase

Recommended Posts

It has been AGES since I have been able to really expound on anything on the forums...so I figured I would try something fun.

List your top ten favorite cities/towns in the Pokémon world, as well as a brief summary of WHY it made the list. Have fun with this one! I will!

10. - Lentimas Town, Unova

This area is only available in Black and White 2 - and the only way to get there outside of carrying Fly...would be for Skyla to fly you there using her plane. It's a desert area at the base of one of the most underappreciated caves in the main series in Reversal Mountain, and just down the road is one of the scariest places in the Pokémon world in the Strange House. It carries move tutors, a Krokorok in the over-world, and is one of the places Curtis or Yancy will call you on your Xtransceiver. New Mexican heritage is a small part of my personal build up, so Lentimas' pueblo....adobe styled homes resonate with me in all the right ways.

9. Kiloude City, Kalos

The most recent endgame locale, featuring the Kalos Battle Maison, the ever coveted Friend Safari, and a contrastingly tropical vibe from the rest of the European themed region. This city exudes everything about the phrase "I want to be the very best."... Upon exiting the rail station a man provides you with the key to recording competitive battles, and from there onward, everything about the town, from getting pokemon that are unobtainable anywhere else with their hidden abilities to getting all of your highly desired held items, is about being the best trainer you can be. The place SMELLS like determination and hard work....the only thing it gets outclassed by is the Battle Resort in Hoenn...because two Day Cares are better than one.

8. Ecruteak City, Johto

One of my fondest memories is scaling the Bell Tower and facing off against Ho-oh as a kid. It was a highly anticipated capture and the moment felt like I had accomplished so much on my first playthrough. The second generation, given it's limits, did a fantastic job playing sequel and while many others would cherish their time in Red's shoes past these games, Ecruteak City was just one of the parts (aside from getting the chance to take Red himself down later in the game spoiler for something we probably already have seen before.) that debunked the stigma of pokemon being all about the original locales and the original 151. HG/SS preserved and enhanced this feeling with it's vibrant Gen 4 touch up, everything from moving Sudowoodo out of the way to scattering the legendary beasts to finally capturing Ho-oh felt very surreal.

7. Aspertia City, Unova

Another area only found in the sequel games to Black and White, Aspertia serves as the starting locale for the player character....and it's the most unique starting locale to date. Aspertia comes packed with a Pokémon Center and Mart, as well as it's own Gym headed by none other than former rival Cheren. None of your standard Pokémon Lab, your Rival's homes and yours only business. Obtaining your starter on the "Lookout" is one of the most beautiful introductions to the series. .....speaking of Pokémon Lab, Bianca travels from the still operational one in Nuvema on the complete OTHER side of Unova, and you can only reach it during the end game. Why to shake things up Black/White 2.

6. Vermillion City, Kanto

This seaport town.....for some reason....took a very long time for Hilda to reach during her now nearly 19 year ago journey in the Kanto region. Lt. Surge easily makes this place stand out for me. His gym puzzle was downright infuriating......but everything about Vermillion encouraged me to complete the story run way back when.

5. Lavender Town, Kanto

Ask yourselves this. Is it really weird to like perhaps the biggest creepypasta fuel in the Pokémon world? The chilling theme, the ridiculous amount of doom and gloom and death, the channeler asking you for blood before battling you, the supposed white hand on your shoulder, to even figuring out that your super effective Karate Chop on Blue's Raticate may have done more than make it "Faint" while aboard the SS. Anne. Oh...I suppose that would be more death huh....Best area in Kanto period. *goes to hum the theme from the top of the score again*....

4. Driftveil City, Unova

Clay's diamond in the rough town has one of the most annoyingly catchy themes in the games. The interaction between him and Elesa just to lower the Driftviel Drawbridge is neat, the location of "old" Team Plasma in the second games where you can pick up Zorua is neat. The Cold Storage was pretty cool (ha), and the Pokémon World Tournament much cooler. This place can see a little bit of traffic post game due to it's marketplace as well. Very useful city.

3. Castelia City, Unova

The best metropolitan area in the series, hands down. Move over Lumiose. Step aside Saffron. This 100% American paragon of urban prowess is home to the Casteliacone, Burgh, the first place to encounter Zubat in the sequel games (the Sewers), the Harlequin Hunt for a Bicycle, the Battle office for some experience, many useful low tier held items, the Game Freak building where you can battle two of the workers teams on a daily basis, and so much more. The most eclectic area is the hidden "Central Park" patch of grass after exploring the sewers, where one can capture wild Eevee....(I think it was Eevee, it might have been Skitty...meh.)

2. Mauville City (ORAS), Hoenn

Mall. Ville. Mallville. Nuff Said.

1. Fallorbar Town, Hoenn.

This place is the most unassuming number one, and it doesn't hail from my favorite region, but I love the art style no matter what generation it's being featured in. The base of the volcano, near Meteor Falls, erected on the soot and ash and clay of legend. It's also the place where you obtain my favorite Mega Stone (the Galladite) and is home to the Move Tutor. As well as contests. Contests are cool too I guess...

10. Blackthorn City

Dragons and cool E-Speed Dratini.Nuff Said

9:Driftveil CIty

Something about this city makes me like it,it's probably the fact that there's so much to do there and you get a Zorua there. Also clay's gym in bw2 is awesome :x

8:Fallarbor Town

It's near meteor falls where you can obtain a Bagon and where the TRUE final boss of Emerald is and it's at the base of a volcano. As Hilda said it contains the coolest ORAS Mega Stone:Galladite.

7:Lavender Town

Death and Ghost Types..

and Mr Fuji XD

6:Vermillion City

SURGE WHY ARE THERE SWITCHES IN BINS

YOUR PUZZLE IS FRUSTRATING!

5:Indigo Plateau(It's technically a Town/City-Shrugs)

In FRLG this place is my chill spot.It has Victory Road right below it and Contains a Cool ass elite four...then there's the Champion:Blue. This asshole managed to hax me pretty bad in a recent FR Nuzlocke with His Exeguttor and Alakazam and managed to make me DESPISE the former.

4:Veilstone City

Contains the HQ of the most DANGEROUS crime syndicate in the games. Cyrus is mad man and his team consistently has mons that WILL make your life hell...The Gym and the Game Corner isnt bad either.

3:Fuchsia City

BEST SAFARI ZONE 10/10

Koga is my favourite gym leader because ninja XD

2:Pastoria City

The Great Marsh is a cool place to be with cool mons and the Move Tutor is here allowing for mons like Yanmega to evolve.Wake is hell to beat in a Nuzlocke if you havent brought grass AND electric types with you.

1:Viridian City

Containing not only the final gym and my Second Favourite Gym leader:Giovanni is a good thing. As Jwitz said:"The whole time the Mysterious Viridian City Gym leader was missing he was ruling Kanto's largest crime syndicate:Team Rocket"Also in Yellow he's stupidly annoying since his Rhydon can spam Fissure and Horn Drill on your ass into oblivion which is especially bad if Nidoking/Queen's Thunder managed to paralyze you.

Erm, Azery you might wanna check your "# 1" choice again.

Anyways, here's my top 10.

10. Celestic Town - Hearing Cynthia's theory on the meaning of the Ruins was one of the most interesting things to hear.

9. Blackthorn City - Dragon's Den. 'nuff said.

8. Anistar City - Can't help to put it on here cause of the Music.

7. Ecruteak City - The Burned Tower and Bell Tower. The story that goes along with these two iconic places is one of most amazing stories in Pokemon.

6. Mossdeep City - Home to Champion Steven, The Mossdeep SPACE CENTER, and of the most frustrating Gym Leaders I faced ever..

5. Sootopolis City - Man, I love the history of Pokemon. Makes it so interesting, I swear. The Cave of Origin, the showdown between Kyogre, Groudon and Rayquaza, and facing the final Gym Leader of the Hoenn Region makes this place so memorable.

4. Ever Grande City - Ain't even a city but the Pokemon League is here? Awesome.

3. Indigo Plateau - Not only was it the final place for the Kanto and Johto, but contained two of the most capable Champions: Blue and Lance.

2. Pallet Town - Where it all began.. all I gotta say.

1. Snowpoint City - Seeing a whole city filled with snow for the first time left a impression in me that I do not even know fully why. I loved the music of this places, and the Snowpoint Temple made me so eager to see what truly lied inside of it..

1.Entralink.

I've never actually used it with another player, which is how it was intended, but I don't care about that as much as I do the music. Oh my gord.Seriously. oh my gord.

I can always listen to this and never get tired of it. No matter what mood I'm in, turnt, bummed, angry/frustrated, I will become turnt if I'm not already.

SERIOUSLY. CHECK THESE OUT.

See this is where it all started. We all know remixes are always better than the original.

This one is far better than the original, but it is really similar to it also.

THE TRUMP CARD. IT is my favorite song of all time. I can never get enough of it. She strays away from the original formula, and creates her own. Which shits on any other piece of pokemon music.

Ok, it's over 9000!!!

I started listed them all to make some list and after that to choise the 10 and the rest on a second list but it's so big list that I got tired while make it..

Maybe I will add details in next days but for the most of them is about the aesthetic and how they look or theme-based. Some examples is Violet City b/c Sprout Tower or Ecruteak b/c of the Old Imperial Japan theme. Well some posts already before this have point out some things I like too so may you take some hints. Sorry for that

- Cerulean Cape, Kanto (LF/FR, HG/SS versions)

The aesthetic change on LF/FR, HG/SS games made this place the only one that I likes from Gen 1 games. It makes it look like a place for enyone who wants a calm place to stand for a while

- Violet City (HG/SS is better than originals), Sprout Tower

Violet City and more specific Sprout Tower is one of the places on Johto that I like b/c of the Old Imperial Japan theme like pagodas and stuffs like this. I really like the new bridge on HG/SS that fits the theme and all those lanterns all around the city. I also like the Sprout Tower theme that fits the Imperial Japan theme

- Ecruteak City

Look at Violet City. Yeah, more Imperial Japan theme, 2 Pagodas towers Brass Tower and Tin Tower, all those Kimono girls, Sages, the Bellchime Trail with all those autumn leafs and Morty one of my fav leaders of Johto region. Ecruteak is for sure on my favorites cities in the whole series games

- Blackthorn City

Dragons! Dragons! and DRAGONS! Yeah, if u don't know me yet dragons are one of my fav types on those games. Blackthorn is the home place of 2 strong Dragon Masters Lance and Clair. Dragon's Den and the aesthetic of this mountain city of somehow Imperial Japan also theme is what make Blackthorn to have my attention

- Lavaridge Town

Lavaridge Town make me love the place b/c of how it looks a small somehow sequestered town with hot springs and Flannery one of my fav Gyms to also live there

- Sky Pillar (ORAS)

Sky Pillar until ORAS remake inside had nothing special. I liked the bigass heavy door but inside was so dull the ORAS remake make it somehow better also the new top that looks like the Δ (Delta) and the Rayquaza theme shape make it even better. ALSO DAT APOCALYPSE LIKE MUSIC

- Meteor Falls

Meteors Falls was something new when Gen 3 games was introduced it as some no more dull cave. They give it a more theme, water, super music theme, space/dragon theme and more. ORAS remake make it even more cool

- Canalave City

Well Jericho made a good summary for me. So take a look at it. Also I would like to add the I liked the battle on the bridge with your rival, the Library and of course that Byron is one of my fav Gym Leaders from the whole series that use one of my fav types. So yeah Canavale rocks!

10- Glittering Cave

Umm crystally mirror pretty purple place hello how can I not like this area

9- Blackthorn City

I'm not one for Dragons, but the area is very out of the way, and somewhat pleasant. I don't mind mountains, and it gives the impression as sort of a closed-off, calm place

8- Snowpoint City

Super gorgeous snow for days and miles is my dream... It would be higher but I'm forcing myself to *sigh* be realistic, and I'd never want to go outside which is bad.

7- Dendemille City

This is kind of a compromise with the above. Snows a bit, but doesn't get crazy. On top of that we have a nice ocean view. I can dig it.

6- Ecruteak City

Really pretty and atmospheric even in Gen 2. Even though it's a central location I've always loved the traditional feel of this place.

5- Laverre City

Much to the same, but having the whimsical twist of frozen time, fairy stuff, and cutesy mushroom glow things, as well as being more out-of-the-way gives it the edge up.

4- Reverse World

As seen in the Giratina anime movie. This place is rad. I feel like I'd never get bored here, even if it were just fighting to live because like woah. The other huge selling point is its (lack of) population.

3- Alto Mare

As seen in Pokemon Heroes. Pretty ocean city with lots of technologic-y stuff and managing to look really cool all at the same time? Sign me up.

2- Mount Quena

As seen in Mewtwo Returns. The water is pure, the air is sweet, and the atmosphere is calm. Plus it's nearly impossible to get to so there wouldn't be many others there. Which is a good thing for me.

1- Forina

As seen in Jirachi Wishmaker. The truth is, I dislike open-sky. Between the towering pillars of stone and flora and the arching half-caves that line the environment, this tropical area feels both sustainable and fascinating, not to mention being totally out of the way. I don't think I have any complaints at all for it.

10. Lentimas Town - Unova

This place was just different, in a good way. It completely deviated from anything that was really existed before in Pokemon and it was executed brilliantly. Paired with the Volcano/Magma Cave just outside of town, this place was absolutely unique and memorable to me.

9. Lavender Town - Kanto

This Town earns it's praise from me not for either it's appearance or atmosphere in Either Gen 1 or Gen 2, but the sheer beautiful transformation it undergoes in the couple of years that happen between. It goes from literally a ghost graveyard town, to a Radio Town where people are enjoying themselves. Both of them are very good in their own right but to see the change like that is just something that's always stuck with me to this day.

8. Village Bridge - Unova

By far the most soothing and just relaxing simple life village where you can just forget your troubles and sit and think away from it all, while having things like an outdoor picnic/restaurant and some sports just near by on the other side of town. This place is like Heaven.

7. N's room - Unova

This just goes to show you the story about how N's Life was the way it was, why he is the way he is. Just sort of shows him as this twisted demented, or perhaps mistunderstood person that was maybe driven to madness somehow. Like a tame Joker so to speak.

6. Peak of Mt. Silver - Johto

When you think of battles in Pokemon games. This is THE battle. The one that puts all other battles to shame. If you can beat red, you had conquered everything Gamefreak had thrown at you and you were literally at the top of the world. You reached the pinnacle and were truly the very best, like no one ever was. The theme, the mysterious lack of speech by Red. The nostalgia. It's just downright awesome.

5. Pokemon World Tournament

The place where the best of the best gathered. You knew that when you were here, you were with the big league. This place had it all, and should have been a staple in every pokemon game before and after it. It brought so many old familiar faces that we loved from every gen so there was something for everyone to enjoy.

4. Violet City - Johto

Just such a soothing music once again. It was to be the first gym battle on your Johto adventure. While the Sprout tower may have been easy, it was still one of the coolest places in any pokemon game just simply for the atmosphere it presented. Also having the Ruins of Alph directly to the south, the place was shrouded in mystery. By far my favorite early game town.

3. Opeculid City - Unova

This was by far one of the most dynamic towns in all of Pokemon, depending on which version you had black or white, the town completely transformed from either old timey and classy to futuristic and techno-ish. Also the fact the way it's more or less taken over covered in Ice (ew) by Neo Plasma in Black and White 2 is also just outright brilliant. A FLYING PIRATE SHIP THAT SHOOTS ICE. How cool is that?

2. Canalave City - Sinnoh

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3dpyBZlXbc

Everything from the sea port town, to the Sailor who's kid is having bad dreams due to Darkrai and the Full-Moon, Half-Moon Island. What's not to love. There's also that mysterious locked house. Everytime I'd play DPPt that was by far my favorite town to visit. It was a boat shipping/trading town, but I enjoyed it way more than I did Slateport, even if it wasn't as bustling.

1. Spear Pillar/Distortion World - Sinnoh

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1TNUPLXLqA

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iy4WUVI7Lrw

Truly the place that brings me the most chills and gives me the most goosebumps in any Pokemon Game, This place made it's name in platinum. Cyrus, Dialga, Palkia... GIRATINA.... AHHHHHHHH this is too much for one me to handle. 0_0 It's amazingly beautiful and destructive. <3

I feel like only naming 5, there are many places which I like, but those surely are the best.

National park: It has one of the best soundtracks ever (both the Gen II and the Gen IV versions), it also has the bug catching contest, which is where I caught my first scyther (ah.. the memories)

Snowpoint city: There isn't much to do there, but the soundtrack is also one of the best. It's just the perfect song

Village bridge: Once again the soundtrack makes me like this place more than ano other in Unova, the layout is also quite beautiful and makes you want to live there instead of just spending 5-10 minutes there on your way to Lacunosa town.

Ecruteak City: Especially the area around the Bell tower in HG/SS, the autumn trees are so beautiful. Why doesn't gamefreak make more places like these.

Cianwood City: I've always disliked water routes, and the moments of finally getting out of water and have that soothing melody playing is just so chilling.

I guess I went with central locations....I'll go with my favorite areas here.

10 - Ruins of Alph, Johto

- I know, I know....different strokes for different folks. Unown is the biggest waste of time collect-a-thon in all of Pokémon History....and yet, solving the puzzles and delving into the ruins to get all 28 forms was satisfying and the earliest trivial achievement I was able to reach besides beating the story mode before 'catching them all' in Gen 3. I liked messing around with the PokeGear here, as well as solving the puzzles. Adventure....YEAH...

9 - Route 10, Unova

- This original throughway to Victory Road is home to the Pokémon Reborn title theme (well....the track before Glitch's remix anyway, details) and is made memorable by the fact that it was inaccessible in Black and White 2. Arguably home to the best route theme in the series.

8 - Tohjo Falls, Johto/Kanto

- This massive cavernous area is the gateway between the Johto and Kanto regions. In order to reach the Indigo Plateau, the player had to back track from Blackthorn to....back home to New Bark Town, where the newly accessible Waterfall TM would be put to use in order to reach the falls.

7 - Mt. Pyre, Hoenn

- It may just be a cheap re-skin of Pokémon Tower, but it's the nicer, more elaborate Pokémon resting place of the Hoenn region. Chasing Team Magma up this labyrinth of lost and encountering the new-age Channelers (Hex Maniacs) was a pretty neat adage to Lavender Town in a completely different spot of the Pokémon globe.

6 - The Badlands, Kalos

- This is a shocking selection, because this is home of Dugtrio and Trapinch in the region...two pokemon that boast the ability Arena Trap, which was a real pain during story runs when all you wanted to do was travel from point A to point B. However, the pokemon selection was unique and offered you some nice Ground types for your team, including Gible, if Garchomp strikes your fancy (It doesn't for me, but whatever)...this is the place you must level up your Magneton in order for it to evolve into Magnezone in the Kalos region, and the pokemon selection could give Magneton trouble if it's lower leveled. A nice trade-off.

5 - The Strange House, Unova

- As someone who hasn't played any Sinnoh based Pokémon title, I had to learn somewhere else about Darkrai and Cresselia. The Strange House located east of Lentimas Town is that place for me, and it's the fifth generations version of the customary human ghost story by this point. For those of you inquisitive Black White 1 players, you may have interacted with a lass on the Marvelous Bridge who....just disappears in thin air, surprising both you and the bystander next to the spot she was standing. This girl returns in Black and White 2, playing a central role in the Strange House as, you guessed it, a ghost. Her cause of death however is revealed vaguely through her dialogue. Nightmares.

She also presents the player with the Lunar Wing upon completing the maze, which indicates that she was trying to summon Cresselia to cure her of Darkrai's plagues. Unfortunately the other half of the lunar duo no-showed, and she passed on during the attempt on the bridge.

4 - Mirage Island (R/S/E), Hoenn

- Yep, I was someone who found the fabled island. It was an accomplishment, but as far as completionist standards go, I absolutely conquered Ruby version.

3 - Secret Base (ORAS), Hoenn

Currently, my base is one of my proudest accomplishments in ORAS. It houses Mael, Kam, Ame (<3), and myself. It's initially dark upon entry due to the old lamp being turned off, and it is a nice little ascent to my spawn area where you encounter my Secret Pals along the way. Also...nobody is touching my Boppoyama record of 34 punches. Nobody.

2 - Celestial Tower, Unova

This is where I encountered Litwick, one of my favorite primary evolution Pokémon. It's a long winding spiral to the top where a bell awaits for the player to chime. Perhaps my favorite reason this -also cheap knock off Pokémon Tower- is my favorite of the bunch is because it's out of the way and not too much of a part of the story. There's no out of place Marowak spirit attacking us. There's no grueling ascent up a HUGE mountain, and it's not as scary as the other places....(okay, Hilda doesn't like "scary" alright.....Ima big chicken.)

1 - the peak of Mt. Silver, Johto/the Pokémon World Tournament

"I wanna be, the very best~ that no one ever was~..." This one was too close to call, and both areas are, during their times, the ultimate proving ground against the world's icons. My completionist exclamation point was to beat Red on Mt. Silver in Gen II (IV) and be the champion of every possible tournament option, defeating everyone that stood in my path, once again including Red.

I like winning.

(you do have a cool base though. meeting you makes me feel all 'bam!' too. <3)
