Yu-Gi-Oh Roleplay Episode 1: Heartland Homicide [AT SCHOOL]

(Klive)

Robert nodded as Klive went with the theory he'd proposed, happy that it wasn't just his own mind throwing wierd options around. What followed, however, had his interest at the peak.

"Robert, do you know of any students knowledgeable of the mechanics of a Duel Disc?"

He almost jumped up as he heard that, realizing that he should keep his composure just before, leaving it to just a big smile. "Funny you would say that, as I can't think of anyone who knows about duel disk mechanics better than myself." He pulled his duel disk and duel gazer out, laying them on the table as he continued talking. "I've been learning much more than 'a thing or two' from my father, so that's helps in this kind of situation."

"Now, with the whole rumor of illegal duels coming back and forth, it helps to actually know why they're illegal; back when they started, people hooked themselves with electrodes that shocked them whenever they lost life points. With the fact that the D-Pad -err, that's the tech name for these the Duel Disks since they went AR with Duel Gazers, it would make sense that they likely modified their Duel Disks to either be more shock-resistant to go past safety measures, or maybe even programmed it to shock on it's own..."

While the logic did work out in his mind of what could cause it, not only was there an obvious problem of why a teacher would actually do that, out in the open especially, but an obvious lack of proof. "But in all honesty, even if it were true, it's not like we'd have any real way to know that. There's no real reason that whoever had his duel disk, likely the police as evidence, would be letting it out to the public eye anytime soon, especially to someone like us."

Happily surprised by Roberts expertise in the matter, Klive grinned genuinely as xyr mind continued whirring beneath the navy blue locks of hair. Maybe it wasn't meant to be public just yet... "Who says Mr Tenjo was aware of the modifications? Just think hypothetically, not ruling out other possibilities, what if it was a test for the equipment? I can't say i've heard of an event quite like this outside of the media, so we can say Tenjos death was one of the first few to occur recently. Similar to a beta test. Once the deed is done, the Duel winner, assuming there was one and they were a part of it, takes the modifications and goes on their way along with the information they got from it all." Klive rambled. Whilst it did sound far-fetched, rumours that circulated so quickly after the event rarely have time to mutate as rumours do so a duel as the murder method with the Pad as a weapon could very well be possible. It would explain why it was illegal too. That said, Klive was still stumped on one thing. "Well, with all of that hypothesising it still leaves me with no leads forward to new information... Maybe asking someone more likely to have heard rumours is the best course. Or asking at mechanics shop to see if any eccentric items were bought to make such alterations..."

To: Anna
Gawyn looked into Annas eyes and felt something pull away in his mind. Suddenly....he did remember. Of course. How had he forgotten? She'd been here as long as he had. "I...." What had he been thinking about a moment ago? "Yes. Of course you have. Forgive me. I guess...Tenjo's passing really has me unnerved." he said quietly. "Excuse me. I think I need a break." He said, and walked off towards his classroom.

Anna quietly watched Gawyn walk away and waved him goodbye with her hand, her enigmatic smile on her face as usual.

See you later, my dear professor!

She said. And then she turned around, her mind already focusing on her next task.

That person... If I remember correctly, he was headed towards the cafeteria. Maybe I am still in time...

[[Anna is now heading to the cafeteria, so people still in the classroom please don't address her...]]

Will decided that he should return to his duties, and so left the hallway of class 2-2, but not before returning his tools to the supply closet. From there, he headed towards the school auditorium, which was located on a branch hallway from the cafeteria's entrance. There were no assemblies being held at the time, so the auditorium was empty, save for him once he entered. The newly-added staff room was attached to the auditorium via a specially-locked door near the stage steps. The purpose of this room was unclear; there were not many professors who regularly operated around this part of the school, and the main staff room was located in a much more central place. Nevertheless, the project was continued and completed. Will even wondered why there was such a high security for this one room in particular, since the normal staff room was pretty much open to the public.

"Yet," he sighed, "they still put this place on my list of duties without preparing an updated keycard in advance." It was a minor inconvenience, and would probably be solved in the near future, but it still bothered him. Will shook his head and took out the piece of paper that Gawyn had given him.

After Will entered the code through the manual keypad, the door let out a short, affirming beep and the red light on it turned a positive green. He pushed the door open and stepped inside. The door shut itself with a click. Looking around the room, he stopped a few mostly-barren desks--after all, the teachers didn't have much to put in this room, and barely any of them used it. He spotted the trash and recycling and walked over. Inside each bin, Will found one apple core in the trash and a single, crumpled sheet of paper in the recycling. He sighed once more and wondered if it was even worth it to replace the bags over this.

Zander's bravado shattered in that incident. He blushed heavily and he shuffled his hands over his necklace. He brightened up a bit when he received the tin, though. "Do you take me to be some super prideful guy or something? Sure, I wouldn't tell my dad that I love Sugar King, he would skin me alive. But that doesn't mean I don't enjoy it. I love it, actually." He grabbed five cookies and stared longingly at them. He had a hidden lust for these things. Within seconds, he had already swallowed the cookies and devoured every crumb. He wiped his hands on his jeans and pulled out his deck, fanning the cards out and staring specifically at Ruby Carbuncle.

(Arial, Luna, Zander)

Ken let out another beaming smile as Arial partook in some of his sweets, saying she used to be a patron of the shop. "Hey, thanks! I don't think I remember you coming in actually, but I didn't actually start working at the store until I was about 10 or 11... the same age pops said he could trust me baking without burning the entire store down." Ken said with a bit of a forced laugh. He knew he was being a bit of a salesman for the store, but he couldn't help it. It was how his dad and him made livelihood. Plus with all the big chain stores, a lot of people didn't go to the local sweet shop anymore, they were losing out customers to them. He'd rather play the act of annoying cookie-pusher than lose the shop. Not only that, but since they lived above the shop in an apartment, they'd be out of a home too. And on a more vain and less depressing note, he honestly felt like nothing else could hold a candle to the family sweets. But before he could get too lost in thought, he heard a certain comment.

Ken tried to keep his composure. He really did. But it all went flying out the window a la Lane at Luna's comment and Zander's broken bravado. He had to set his almost-empty tin of cookies down onto Arial's desk to keep from dropping them all and went into a minor laughing fit.

"Pfft hahahahahahahahahahaha!" Ken... well, not really said, but more like exploded into laughter. A few moments after his laughter died down, he looked at Luna and grinned. "I like your guts, that's hilarious! Especially his face after." Ken said before taking a look at Zander and grinning.

"No hard feelings though mate, I'm just poking a little fun is all." Ken said before taking a look at Zander's cards and brightening up... well. If Ken could be any brighter, anyway. "What kind of deck do you run? Figures that I've known you for years and still haven't seen you duel once." Ken said with a laugh.

(Klive)

'An... Unknown beta test of that kind of equipment? Well it IS just an idea, and there's a lot stranger speculation out there. And it would explain why Mr. Tenjo have been in that situation if he didn't know...' Even with all the speculation they'd been doing, it seemed they had always hit a point where they'd need much more than speculation to solidify, and as such, Klive's own ideas for was an obvious attention grab for Robert, giving a way for some solid proof to go with it all.

"Well, if you'd like, I can follow you in those 'searches'. Two heads are better than one, right? Besides, I'd be happy to hear some proof myself."

Dominic accepted the book from Setsuna, but before he read, he turned to the two who had the desire to fight, and smiled with an excited grin, "Young man! If you fight, fight to the extreme! No match is worth watching if there isn't passion in the fight!" Dominic sat down, with his arms crossed still grinning, but finally he started to read, and a few seconds in, he looked at it with a puzzled expression, and scratched his head the more he continued, "This is extremely confusing.."

The more he read, he got slightly more interested when a fight suddenly happened, and he voiced bits of his thoughts aloud as he continued to read, "Only a coward would fight with a weapon against an unarmed opponent! Go! Use your fists to the extreme!" Going back into deep reading, Dominic cycled through multiple expressions during his silent read. Finally, he finished, and he ended with the same confused expression when he started, and slid the book back to Setsuna with a mild exhale, "Quite the read there.." He said with a quick laugh as he turned back to his lunch. "From only a few pages I became interested, even when I couldn't understand." Taking a few more bites, he looked around as he chewed, and remembered what she said about few visitors, and noted the people who came to fight, and he himself as well. "Do you usually have visitors like these?" He said as he waved his hand toward the general area of the two duelists. "Or are duels in the garden a standard thing."

(Robert)

Klive considered the idea carefully. A companion would certainly help with investigation. Being able to check two places at once was an obviously useful capability and it wasn't like Robert had a reason to betray any sort of trust. Hell, there wasn't anything to hide, Klive never had any intention of hiding what xe would find anyway. So Klive couldn't think of any reason to refuse Roberts help. "Ok then, I'll text you the details about where I think we should check out first, for now I actually have to go get some food, so unless you wanna come with to the cafeteria, i'll see you later." Klive stood up to go, pausing for a moment to see if Robert would follow to continue a conversation.

(Zander, Ken, Arial, and Minerva)

Luna moved over to Zander's shoulder to peer over and see what card he was looking. While the monster looked kind of cute, Luna cared little for it. She preferred scary and creepy cards over anything. She also felt a little bad after seeing his reaction to her words. Around her neighborhood, people cared little when someone called them out like that so it was no big deal. "You know, looking at a card ain't gonna help you with your women troubles. If you needed a little help, all you had to do was ask. Here, I'll show you how it's done. Luna away!"

The red head made her way over to a blonde hair girl calmly sitting at her desk. Luna placed both hands on Minerva's desk gazing straight into her eyes. "Hey there girl. Sorry to bother you, but you looked a bit lonely over here. Care if I join you for a little bit? I'm Luna by the way."

{Lane, Paul, and Charlotte}

"Nice to meet you, Paul. Now, Lane, let's get this duel started." With that, Arthur began cutting his deck. He then put it in the proper position on the table and drew his first five cards. "You can take the first move," he said casually.

==============================================================

The score was 8000 to 1200 Life Points in favor of Arthur, but with the field in Lane's control thanks to his Diamond Dire Wolf and Impale Lanius, things were beginning to turn south for the blue-haired youth. "My turn," he said. He took a deep breath and drew his next card, then looked over his hand. Praise be to Daedalus, I've drawn the right card, he thought to himself. I have Big Wave Small Wave, Atlantean Dragoons, and Legendary Ocean. "Unfortunately for you, this duel has ended as quickly as it has begun," he said calmly. "Your biggest misplay was using Soul Charge when you had my entire field empty last turn. You could have at least put a dent in my Life Points that way." He grinned. "My first move is to play Legendary Ocean! This field spell increases the attack of my fearsome WATER mosnters by a full 200 points! It also reduces all of their Levels by one." He then dramatically took another card from his hand. "Now I summon Atlantean Dragoons in Attack Position! His effect allows all my Level Three or lower Sea Serpents to attack your Life Points directly! Normally he can't benefit from his own effect since he's a Level Four monster, but thanks to Legendary Ocean he qualifies for it! Now, I attack your Life Points directly and claim my victory!" He smiled as he marked down the last deduction from his classmate's Life Points.

FLAWLESS VICTORY, he thought to himself, managing to keep a straight face despite the Mortal Kombat reference. "That was a good duel, Lane. And your Diamond Dire Wolf play that took Poseidra off the field really had me worried! I think with a bit more practice and a little deck tweaking, you'll be quite the formidable opponent." He reached his hand over the table and smiled, waiting for his opponent to shake his hand.

{Zander, Ken and Luna}

"Hmm... That makes sense." Arial replied after she swallowed a bite of her first cookie. "My brothers and I had stopped going there for a while because we started going to different schools. And, when we do, I wouldn't be surprised if we happened to miss one another." The green-eyed girl then giggled as poor Zander blushed profusively and Ken exploded in laughter; what a cute sight that was. Arial continued to watch as the Sugar Prince attempted to bring the conversation back to a friendlier, non-embarrassing tone.

However, her attention was distracted yet again when Luna decided to "help" Zander with his woman troubles by sauntering over to Minerva. Arial didn't know whether to thank God for having Luna gone, or pray for God to safeguard the redhead's sanity. "Oh boy, I like to see how this plays out..." she said sarcastically as she finished off her first dessert. Neverthless, Arial did watch the scene unfold over by Minvera's desk, taking a few nibbles on her second cookie that Zander didn't take from her hands.

((Arthur, Charlotte, Paul))

Lane stared at the field and rubbed his hair in frustration. “Aaagh I was just planning a big move!” he pouted. “But seriously, you kicked my ass,” he said, accepting the extended hand. “And thanks for being nice, but I won't ever be a good at dueling. You remember how I mentioned my parents? They are against me being here and if they hear the rumors about Tenjo's death...” A hint of sadness showed on his face but was quickly replaced with a grin. “Well I guess I have no choice but to make the best of it while I still can! Jumping out of windows is one of those things, you should try it sometime!”

The student laughed a bit awkwardly trying to change the subject to something less embarrassing.

To Lane

Unnoticed by most of the students, Anna had sneaked close to the table where Arthur and Lane were dueling, and had managed to follow most of the duel. As the WATER monsters employed by Arthur overwhelmed Lane's Raidraptors, the platinum-haired woman couldn't help but grin.

This person is the destined? He looks like a fool to me...

She stopped, surprised by her own thoughts: "he looks like a fool", she had actually made a pun... Something unusual for her, to say the least. At any rate, she decided it was about time she made her presence known.

A most excellent effort from both duelist.

She said, walking closer to the table and clapping her hands in a slow, almost sarcastic, movement.

I am sure both of you can do better than that, but what do I know? This isn't exactly my field. Mister Lazario, was it? I have something to say to you in private, if you don't mind.

[[To: Blair, is now in the cafeteria]]

Will actually reached into the recycling bin to try to take a look at this singular piece of paper that someone decided to scrap. However, he got a strange feeling when he took it out and, before looking at it, set it on the table and exclaimed aloud, though to himself, "Ah right, I forgot that I have other rounds to do. This room is fine for now, so I can't waste time lingering." And with that, he left, the paper still atop the table and the apple core still in the trash.

Since the auditorium was so close to the cafeteria, Will figured he'd head in there to prepare for the post-lunch cleanup. Since most of the students had already ordered lunch by now, the kitchen was wrapping things up, so he would go there first to see if he could take their trash. Will was surprised, though, when he noticed that girl from before. He was walking towards the kitchen when he passed her and gave a warm smile.

"Hey, you sure look excited, just sitting there! Aha, weren't you going to duel someone, though?" He actually was curious, since just before he had been glad to see her socializing more. And now that didn't go through, apparently. Perhaps it really was a fault of his to worry about the students so much.

Robert nodded to Klive, glad that they'd be working for some answers once xe got the necessary info. "Okay then, hear from you then." After which, he put his duel disk back away and put his focus back on his own lunch.

Will

"Hey, you sure look excited, just sitting there! Aha, weren't you going to duel someone, though?"

"Hmm? Yes. He left to ask for permission to do it in the garden. Would rather stay here but I need practice." It was clear from her tone as well as her word choice that she was decidedly annoyed by the delays. She sent a sideways glance at where she had laid the disassembled duel disk. There was a bit of grease that had deposited itself on the table. That gave her a thought. "Do you have spare parts?"

(To Red)

Rene is quickly surprised that Red was willing to duel so soon. He thought that was something that could be done after school...but if Red was willing to spend some dueling, Rene wouldn't say no to her.

Rene then quickly moved his lunch to the side so he could setup room for his upcoming duel with Red. He then responded with a smile, "If you're sure you don't need the time to study, then sure let's duel!"

Rene took out his deck and mat and set up for his upcoming duel. Rene then said cheerfully, "Good luck and let's have fun!"

Arthur looked dissatisfied with Mrs. Reinier's comments, his brow creasing. She's right. I should have been able to end that on the third turn instead of the fourth, he noted sarcastically. Although I'll be facing much tougher opponents in my time here. I'll need to make sure my Deck is up for the challenge. He then turned to address her, his unhappiness seeping into his tone. "Perhaps you'd care to elaborate on what I could have done better, Mrs. Reinier? I know Mr. Tenjo was renowned for his dueling advice. It would be wonderful to know that I didn't miss out on it by having you instead."

(To Dominic)

Setsuna watched as the boy in front of him got as well as fired up and the myriad of expressions that seemed to pop up and disappear on Dominic's face. It was actually quite amusing. She found herself averting her gaze and chuckling quite a bit while she watched and listened to his reactions. As he slid the book over and started giving his own summation of his reactions, Setsuna placed the mark back at where she left off and shut down the book feeling that she was at an adequate stopping point.

"Well, it's the second part of a story arc so I am not surprised it would be confusing. It's like starting a TV show at the climax of its second season or something along those lines." She pointed out.

He seemed to be asking about the visitors next, which seemed to be in a sort of sudden influx at the moment. "In general, this is a rarity. I am actually in a bit of shock that so many people have been coming to the garden. Like I said earlier, you rarely see any students outside of the four Gardening Club members in here outside of any events and even then, we rarely hold events here due to the fact that this club is actually fairly young. It was sort of dead during the time I got here and I along with a couple of seniors and a girl a year ahead of me who is now the current president revived it." She paused for a bit. "Those two seniors graduated and we had a couple of new freshman recruits leading to me becoming the VP. But, this was all something we built together and we ended up taking pride in that even if we didn't end up broadcasting it to the world...but I'm going on a bit of a long tangent, aren't I?" She sheepishly grinned when she realized this.

She thought for a bit and then decided to make a proposition to her newfound...acquaintance? Friend? She really was not quite sure what to classify him as. However, she noticed that his hot-bloodedness and curiosity may have wormed their way into her. "You said you wanted to investigate Professor Tenjo's death further...well, you said that the situation is far too intriguing to simply wait for more info. So, how about we team up and do our own investigation? We can meet at Heartland Square, where the body was found and kick things off there. I do have to meet with the Gardening Club for a maybe like half after school to do a bit of work on the garden but I can meet up with you after that. What do you think?"

[[To: Blair]]

"I see. So you're just waiting here." Will smiled. It wasn't as bad as he thought.

But she was an interesting girl, to say the least. Her interest in machines gave off an aura that Will had not yet encountered in a person. He heard her question, and settled his gaze upon the contraption she had. "Hm. Spare parts, eh? Well, I just put my toolbox back but if you're going to be waiting here a while, I could take you to the supply room and you can dig around for yourself. There's plenty of interesting bits and pieces in there." He paused. "Technically students shouldn't be in there but... I think we can let it slide. Your teachers have gone off for the moment anyway, and lunch is a while longer."

He looked around the cafeteria. Lunch wasn't over yet, indeed. The trash could wait until it was. He decided to help the girl out for now, as it was an interesting diversion. Will took a step back and grinned his friendly smile at her in wait of a response.

Will

Blair cracked a smile for the first time that day. It was good to meet someone who understood. "Thank you," she stated. She began with her normal, flat tone of voice, but it started to gain a bit of inflection as she spoke. "I've been working on a personal project lately. I want to come up with some new Duel Disk designs, but first I've got to get down exactly how they work, down to every last bolt and gear. This one's basically disassembled, and I'm pretty sure I can get it together pretty quickly again, but I wanted to make a few modifications to it, see if it'd work a bit better." She scooped up her backpack, just in case she couldn't make it back here before the next class started. She started toward the supply room, then turned back to the man. "What was your name, again? I'm Blair, Blair Emmeline."
