After school theme: Brother and Sister

The bell rang for the last time at Heartland High School, signaling the end of the lessons for the day. Students and teachers alike soon swarmed to the front gates, anxious to go attend to whatever their lives required them to do in that nice, sunny afternoon.

From the window of class 2-2, Anna observed her students leave: where they going to be caught in the hurricane of events she had carefully planned for them? Where they going to fight the current, or where they going to be swept aside without resisting? In many ways, that day was going to be a memorable one...

Read the spoiler before posting

So here we are, the first After School topic is underway: allow me to explain in details how these work.

First thing first, here is a map of Heartland. The area within the red circle is the city center, which can be seen, in more details, in this other map. When the topic starts, you are all still at school, or about to leave it: PLEASE BE REALISTIC IN REGARDS TO THE DISTANCES. I am not saying that you must spend a set amount of posts to get to faraway locations, but I don't want to see random teleportation (as in, Player A states s/he is in a location, then begins the next post by saying "I arrive to the other location and do this and that") either: when you leave a location do state so at the end of your post, and when you get to a location, begin your post by stating how you got there. On this note, there might be still someone worth talking to at school, so I wouldn't recommend being hasty in leaving. But ehi, your call really. And as far as transportation go, this is a realistic city, so bus, taxi, scooter and bicycle are fair game.

Now as to what you are allowed to do in this topic: well, it wouldn't be wrong to say that you can do whatever the hell you please: you can hang around with friends, talk, duel, or you know, you could investigate Tenjo's death and actually advance the plot. Once again, it's your call. There are 3 kind of actions that we shall call "Important Actions": arriving in a new location, talking to a NPC, and challenging a NPC to a duel. When you perform an Important Action, DO NOT POST AGAIN UNTILL I HAVE POSTED. This is extremely important so I shall repeat it: after performing an Important Action, DO NOT POST AGAIN UNTILL I HAVE POSTED. The reason for this is simple: Anna won't appear in "After School" topics. Instead, I (or King Murdoc, our co-host, should I have IRL problems) will post from time to time to make what we shall refer to as "Recap Posts".

It works like this: after performing an Important Action, you wait. When I see that enough (which means, at least 5) people have performed an Important Action, I will make a post in which I will address your actions, stating the results you achieved with them and/or asking you how you intend to continue (for example "Player A talked to [NPC]! Obtained info [This and That]!" or "Player B arrived in [Location]: there is [NPC] there: Player B, what will you do?"). After I have done this, you can post again, continuing from the situation I have described in the Recap Post. Of course, you are not bound to follow this rule if your latest post does not include an Important Action (for example if you spent time talking to another player or walking around): in this case, the same rules stated in the "At School" topic (you can post again after everyone else has posted, or after 6 hours since your last post) apply.

Also, when you make a post in which your character performs an Important Action, please state so (like, include the tag "Important Action" or something like that at the top of your topic...

Each Recap Post will be divided in many Spoilers, each corresponding to one character: please read only the spoiler that corresponds to your character. Or if you really are curious and you want to read all the spoilers, DO NOT USE OTHER PEOPLE'S INFO IN YOUR OWN POSTS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. I have said it before and I'll say it again: metagaming kills the very point of this roleplay, so don't do it, I am being serious here.

When interacting with a NPC, the Recap Post will give you a choice between 3 options in regards of what you may do (for example "ask about this and that" or "challenge to a duel". Because of this, please avoid making posts along the lines of "Player A walks in the card shop and asks the owner if he knows anything about Tenjo's death": just say that you walk in the shop and greet the owner, then wait for the Recap Post to see what your options are. Once you have chosen an option, you don't have to state so: just make a post in which you describe your character acting accordingly.

There are 2 different things you can acquire during an After School topic: Info and Izanami Lore. Info are provided by NPCs, and are needed to locate the Rogue Number Holders: you will obtain these info by picking the correct option upon interacting with a NPC. Notice that you have to roleplay out the option you picked, so the way you act is also important: if "ask directly" is the right option for obtaining the info, you might still fail to obtain the info by asking directly, if you talk in a rude way to a person who hates rude people. So yeah, think carefully before acting. As for Izanami Lore, those are the special info required to piece together what is going on in the plot: each time you acquire a Number card, you acquire the Izanami Lore that comes with it. But how do you obtain a Number card? Easy: just interact with the NPC you suspect of being a Rogue Number Holder: if you pick the right option, a boss battle will be triggered, so win the battle and the Number is yours.

You can also obtain Info (not Izanami Lore!) by sharing your Info with another player: in this case, you will obtain all the Info in possession of that player, but s/he will obtain your own Info too. As an alternative, if you don't want to share, you can challenge a player to a duel, and the winner will claim the Info in possession of the loser: notice however that it is up to the challenged player to decide whether or not to accept. If you challenge a player to a duel and they turn you down, don't stalk or harrass them: it is in their right to refuse, so live with it. For the time being, you are not allowed to share the Izanami Lore you obtain with other players, nor can you try to obtain other players' Izanami Lore via duel: we shall return on this point during the next At School topic.

Should a player accept your challenge to a duel, bring it to DN: when done, PM to me the result, and I will include it in the next Recap Post. You must wait before posting again untill I have done so (this applies to both competitors in the duel).

As usual, when talking to someone, you are asked to include a note, at the top of your post, in which you state who you are talking to (THIS INCLUDES NPCs).

Should you lose a boss battle, Anna will rewind your subjective time, teleporting you back to school, with your memories of the day erased: you will lose all the Info (not the Izanami Lore) you acquired up to that point when this happens.

Also note that, at this stage, the Ice Queen is to be considered a hopeless boss fight: I cannot reveal her true identity just yet, but for plot reasons you cannot beat her at this stage. So yeah, in the (VERY unlikely, don't worry) eventuality that you run into her, a boss battle will be triggered and you will automatically lose, so be careful. There is only a single dialogue option in a single interaction with a single NPC, in the whole topic, that will trigger an encounter with her, so yeah, it is really one chance in a million: if you are unlucky enough to pick it well, sucks to be you!

After School topics last 2 weeks, which means that this topic is supposed to end on sunday the fifth of april: however, that day is Easter, and I will be in my hometown with my parents. Therefore, this topic will exceptionally last one extra week, ending on sunday, april the 12th at 21 GMT+1. Make sure you wrap up all your interactions and investigations by then.

Also keep in mind that Recap Posts won't be made from thursday the 2nd to monday the 6th, because of the aforementioned Easter holidays.

And if something is unclear, ask in the OOC topic or contact me privately!

(Robert/Anyone else who wants to be there)

Klive was waiting just outside the school gates with xyr bike, the slender metal frame leaning against the youth who owned it. Xe had texted Robert during class to meet xem with a bike if he had one outside where Klive was now. The text also told Robert that their destination was Arclight Industries. Klive had decided to wait 10 minutes for Robert before leaving in case he was held up fir some reason. So that was how Klive found themselves waiting.

(To Arial and those interested in searching for clues regarding Mr. Tenjo's death)

The bells sounded signaling the end of school on another bright, sunny day in Heartland. Rene was a somewhat happy that the day was over and didn't have to sit in the classroom constantly thinking about Mr. Tenjo's death. However, everything Miss Reiner had said to the class before lunch was still on his mind. The whole "illegal duel" surrounding Mr. Tenjo's death may seem more than just speculation, but Rene knew that several classmates were looking into it when he returned back to class.

Rene waited outside Heartland High for anyone who might be interested in looking a bit more into their old teacher's death. Although he didn't get much of a chance to talk with his other classmates, he wanted to look for any information along with anyone else who was interested.

(Klive)

Looking at his phone while he walked out of the school, Robert went towards the bike rack to find Klive waiting there him. Putting his phone away and grabbing his own bike a few down, he rode it over as he greeted xyr. "Hey Klive. So, we're headed over to the ArcLight Industries building then. Is the choice just on a hunch, or did you find a some more 'solid' speculation after you left?"

With classes over, Setsuna ran out of the classroom. She had already sent a message to Dominic sometime while she was in class that she'd meet him at Heartland Square in about an hour or so and to start the investigation on his own if he felt like it.

Setsuna let the Gardening Club know that she would be a bit late to get to the garden and that they should go on ahead and start without her. She had a lead she needed to latch onto as quickly as possible, even if the information came from more…dubious sources.

It was at moments like these where she reveled in the conveniences of modern AR technology. She quickly moved over to where the D-Gazer on her eyes directed to and ended up at a Supply Room Door which was fairly close to her classroom. On the AR view in her D-Gazer, she saw the name 'Willem Van Dine-Workspace' hovering in front of the door. I didn't think it would be this easy to find.

Looking at the electronic lock on the door an back at the door itself, she knocked on the door in front of her.

[[Note: If Setsuna's in the wrong place, let me know]]

((Anyone heading towards the pub))

Lane's attention was completely absorbed by the empty card. He still couldn't remember where or when he got it. Without watching his step he made his way towards the busstop and soon found himself underway to Central Square.

After one last glance at the empty card, he realized it was rather warm on the bus and he started to get thirsty. He reached for the bottle of water in his bag but didn't have enough left to quench his thirst. There was only one option left for the young rebel; enjoy his freedom and pay a visit to the famous Bootleg. A small grin formed on his face as he imagined his parents faces if they found out he visited a pub.

{Rene}

Seeing that his attempts to find a girl to manipulate had failed miserably, Zander decided that making friends would be better than nothing. It didn't take him long to see a guy right outside the school, seemingly waiting for someone. Zander casually made his way over to Rene, tapping him on the shoulder from behind. "So this Mr. Tenjo stuff, pretty crazy, am I right? The name's Zander, by the way." He held out his hand, hoping for a shake.

Dean.

He proceeded to head to the garden after the bell, waiting for Blair show up. While he was waiting, he made some slight changes to his deck to help to summon his aces more often.

{Himself and anybody nearby}
Leaning against the wall near the entrance to the school, Gawyn took out his phone. No messages. He didn't really expect there to be any, but Rob hadn't shown up today and he was worried about the young math teacher. "Everyone seems to be going missing....does that mean I'm next?" He wondered. "Maybe he's sick...or caught up in that book I lent him..." He tried dialing his number with no response. "Fantastic." Rob always answered his phone. Sighing, he made his way over to where he had parked his scooter and got on. "Guess I should go check on him." he thought, and sped off towards Heart Park.

"To the EXTREME!!" Dominic ran out of the last classroom for the day, throwing jabs and other punches in random combinations, doing this until he got outside of the school. The day was extremely sunny, so Dominic's spirit flared up even more, taking the sunshine as a good sign of new discoveries. "Alright.. No need for further guesses. Today, we'll make some headway toward this mystery for sure!" On the subject of his newly taken up task, Dominic re-read Setsuna's message, and decided to head for Heartland Square and do a small bit of searching.

Reaching into his jacket pocket, Dominic pulled out a piece of hard candy at the end of a stick, unwrapping it before eating. As he walked, Dominic recalled what the teacher had said to them before they left, and the more he remembered the conversation, he realized.. ".. I forgot about the janitor!" Dominic sighed as he slammed the side of his head with his hand and trudged along, "I hope Setsuna remembered.." With an exhale he dismissed his mistake, and Dominic started to run toward Heartland Square to get this investigation somewhat started.

Arial's mind has been anywhere but class after Professor Reinier's little tidbit this morning. During class, she often found herself drifting into her own thoughts about illegal duels. Arial did try to bring her mind back to the real world by twirling a Duel Monsters card that was situated between the desk and her pointer finger but, the more she thought about it, the more curious she was about Professor Tenjo's death and the illegal duel rumor. By the time the bell finally rang, Arial's mind was made up: She will find out more about this rumor! It shouldn't be too hard to come up with an excuse if someone decided to ask. After all, she was a student of the late Professor Tenjo and her deck's history also tied into the matter! What could ever go wrong? With a determined grin, she placed her beloved card back into its protective case and took out her folded D-pad from her bag. Due to her parents' wealth, Arial was able to get this customized beauty several years ago; its dueling slots are shaped like that of Cyber Dragon Infinity's wing: Silvery white-grey slits with a light pink outline on each of them. Connecting them together is a black, circular screen that acts like a tablet and its black arm brace that is perfectly fitted for Arial left arm.

"Gonna have to prepare you up juuust in case we run into some of those bad boys, ya' know?" She whispered to her Duel Pad. With that, she got up, gathered her things and walked into the corridor, testing out her D-pad to see if it's still functioning properly. Students could see the said D-pad slowly unfolding its "wings" as she walks by.

((Arial's D-pad looks similar to Trey's wing-shaped D-pad, but with Infinity's wing colors and circular screen))

Red got up from her seat as most of her classmates had left the room. She was determined to figure out what made these illegal duels so lethal and so far only Professor Reinie had mentioned anything about this. So, it was settled. Red was going to have to track down the Professor and ask her some questions. As Red left the classroom, she pondered about how she would word her questions to Professor and what she would do if the professor refused to talk. Which was nothing because this was Red's only lead and talking to the Professor absolutely had to give her some information. She just had to talk to her...

[Robert]

"Well, I figured the first stop is to find out from the manufacturer if it really is possible to modify the equipment like we discussed. Furthermore, Mr Arclight himself might know something, who knows? It all depends on if we can even get to see him." Klive explained. "Now, come on. t's a long way to Arclights." and with that Klive got on xyr bike and sped away, hoping Robert would come along. It really would help to have somepne along who could understand techno-babble...

Ken yawned sleepily as he got up from his desk and left the school. He didn't really need to be home right away, so he figured he'd take the day to roam around the city. There was a lot of mystery surrounding Tenjo's death, but looking into it seemed to require more effort than he was willing to put in at the moment. At least on his own. As he was wondering what to do for the rest of the day, his thoughts were interrupted by a buzzing in his pocket. His cellphone.

Swiftly picking it up and putting it to his ear, the sugar prince spoke sleepily. "Hello? Oh. Hey pops." Buzzing could be heard from the other end, obviously Sukkar senior was telling him something. "Alright, alright. Got it. You gonna be alright at the shop on your own?" Ken asked, followed by more buzzing. "Yeah, okay. I'll see you later then." Ken said as he hung up and shoved his phone back into his pocket.

Apparently, he would be running errand boy today. His task? Go to the local card shop and deliver cookies to Mr.Takeda, who the family had known for years. That would have explained why he baked more than usual.... oh well, he was sure he still had plenty left. Heading to where he parked his scooter, Ken got on and prepared to head to the card shop.

[[To: Setsuna]]

Will had just about finished up with his trash rounds by the time the bell rang. "Oh, is it that time already? I'll have to check in on that girl to see if she's still in the supply room." He muttered to himself.

The janitor made his way back to class 2-2's hallway and noticed something strange. Many students were walking out of class as they day was over, including one heading out with her D-pad unfolding as she walked. There was also a girl at the door to the supply room, knocking on it. If Blair was still inside, she should know that Will had his own key, so opening the door is probably not a good idea. Nevertheless, Will wondered why this girl was there. Did she find out about Blair in some way? "No," He shrugged off the thought, "That's certainly me thinking too far."

Will approached the girl with a friendly face and asked, "Hello! Can I help you with anything?" Upon closer inspection, he recognized her as another student of class 2-2.

(Rene, Zander and Arial)

As Roy was heading out he couldn't help but overhear Zander mentioning something about Mr.Tenjo. Since he didn't know much about the town or where to go, he decided to join the conversation. "Indeed," Roy said slowly walking up to them, hands in his pockets, "Illegal dueling leading to death, its going to be hard for the cops to find the culprit just going off that." He held his black and red backpack on his right shoulder while the left strap hung off to the side. He kept his duel disk and accessories in there just in case he was ever challenged on the streets.

Blair sighed. She'd committed herself to this duel, but what she really wanted to do was get out of school and back to her projects. She was still using a stock D-pad, but she felt like there were several improvements that could be made, and she wasn't a fan of it. That reminded her, she'd have to see if she could get a hold of the right paints. Maybe the art teacher would have it, but she'd more than likely have to find a specialty store.

Shaking her head, she moved toward the garden. She needed to refocus. She had been a decent duelist at one point, but that was a long time ago. Practice was desperately needed, like a machine whose gears gummed up with rust and filth after a decade of disuse. She ran the deck through her head, trying to remember how to implement the mechanics of the deck. She was so intent on this that she nearly walked into Dean, though she stopped short just before doing so. "Hello," she said curtly.

'Hmm, very true. It's only make sense that the maker would be the first to ask if their product could do such a thing.' Nodding as he confirmed it in his head, he simply said "Very true. Okay then, sounds perfect." Robert sped along behind Klive as the later had already taken off.

" About time, I talked to gardening that we had permission so let duel!" Dean whipped out his d-pad which resembles a 1 half being White, the other half being Black. The disk had a dragon with a blade coming out of its mouth and put on his gazer. Dean also pulled out his deck and put it in the slot.

Blair took a few steps back and readied her D-pad. It was a plain, basic model, as she hadn't finished her custom one yet. She slotted her deck into the device, put on her gazer (another standard model), and held it out in front of herself at the ready.

---

A few frustrating turns later, Blair sighed. She hadn't been able to summon her Ultimate Ancient Gear Golem after her Golem was destroyed due to poor attack ordering and Mirror Force, and she had slowly struggled until her life points were depleted. "Good game, I guess," she stated in her normal flat tone.

[[To Willem]]

"YEEP!" Setsuna squeaked at the sight of the tall janitor. Considering that the man was coming to the supply room, he was likely the person she was looking for. However, she found herself at a loss of words. This was not because the person in front of her looked intimidating. In fact, he actually seemed like a fairly affable and down-to-earth person even at first glance.

The problem was that Setsuna was never good at initiating conversation. She was always the type who would generally refute or advance a conversation after the first person had spoken. She tried speak to the man in front of her. "I-I-I--- um..."

However, her voice tapered off very quickly. She looked back down at her feet, embarrassed at her little display. What am I doing!? I came here to follow my first lead! SPEAK, SETSUNA! SPEAK, DAMMIT!

She slapped herself on the cheeks twice in rapid succession and exhaled. "I was told that...umm...you would be knowledgable about an Ancient Egyptian myth with...um...ties to the illegal duel rumors floating around the school...by a certain teacher."

Better. But that definitely could have gone better as well.

(Arial, Zander, and Roy)

As Rene is waiting outside the school, students from other classes are passing on by; some without a single care in the world and some who might have a few things on their minds. One of the first students Rene happens to recognize is his classmate, Zander. Zander had offered Rene a handshake and Rene shook his hand back. Rene even replied to him, "Yes...Just like that...out of the blue...he's gone. And by an illegal duel too?"

Rene really had a difficult time grasping what may or may not have happened to Mr. Tenjo. Just then he noticed another of his classmates, Arial, just over Zander's shoulders getting her D-Pad ready. But before he could say anything, he heard yet another of his peers come up and agree with Zander. It happened to be Roy who gave his two cents on the matter. When he finished, Rene agreed and responded, "It will. If this whole illegal dueling thing is the cause of his death, then where does one begin to prove it? Sometimes I wish we knew where to start..."

Rene said that loud enough so Arial could hear it as well and join the conversation. In the meantime, Rene held his backpack high on his shoulders and put on his D-Pad. His D-Pad was in a golden-trimmed, silver metallic frame that Scrap Beast has on its body. On the edges where two metallic wings to represent that of the dragons that Rene could summon as well. Rene has always been a longtime favorite of the Scrap archetype, even before he moved to Heartland. Thus when he had the chance to have a customized D-Pad one day, he made it honor of his favorite deck.

Also, he knew that people could just challenge one another to a duel at anytime so he had to be ready. Who knows, perhaps if Arial was up for a duel, she and Rene could have one on the way to wherever the group decided to go. But before then, Rene asked the threesome, "Where do you think we should go to see if we can find out anything regarding Mr. Tenjo's death? Someone ought to know somehow, someway about these supposed illegal duels..."

Arthur exited the schoolbuilding. He immediately paused to take his D-Pad out of his backpack and slide it onto his arm, smiling lightly at the device. It had begun as a stock D-Pad that he found lying around the docks one day when he was young. But, working on a ship had its advantages. He had had access to parts and tools that most teenagers don't, and as a result he had been able to customize his own D-Pad over the past few years. It was now a deep blue color with teal accenting and glossy bronze-painted strips at the edge of each Monster slot, matching the underwater theme of his Atlantean deck. Once he had it on he proceeded toward the sidewalk. The first thing he saw was Klive speeding away on his bicycle, leaving a group of students in the dust. Hey, some of them were talking about Tenjo's death earlier, he thought to himself. I wonder what they're doing.

And so Arthur found himself walking up to the group, recognizing Arial and Zander from the classroom. "Hey, guys," he interjected. He then looked at each of them. "Sorry for the intrusion. I'm Arthur," he began. "I couldn't help but hear you guys talking about Tenjo's death and those illegal duels. Any chance I could come with you? I'd like to shed some light on this too."
