Yu-Gi-Oh Roleplay Episode 1: Heartland Homicide [AFTER SCHOOL]

"Hold on," Luna spoke up. "By professor, are you referring to Tenjo, the professor who died rather recently? Either way, you mind telling me of some of the nonsense he spoke of." She then waited for an answer when something else popped in her head. "Oh one other thing. When did you first hear about the mysterious card rumor? This is actually the first time I heard it mentioned."

{Rene, Klive and Robert}

At the mention of duel disks being a possible culprit of Tenjo's death, Arial turned on her own D-Pad and initiated the screen's function. Once the screen lit up with a sem- transparent pink hue, Arial began typing in a few words and started scrolling down the results.

"If I remember correctly, manufacturers have specifically changed the design of duel disks to prevent people from tinkering with such functions that would be considered "illegal." Of course, the records don't include those that are done underground, but the possibility of people being able to alter their duel disk and D-pad to perform such a task should be severely reduced due to the recent upgrades over these past few years..."

"Reduced doesn't mean eradicated. A chance is a chance. If anything, it explains why a murder like this is so rare, no?" Klive didn't believe the Shadow duel theory. Not when there were far more plausible, logical possibilities to explore still. "That said though, we don't know where to go from here. I'd like to find Mr Arclight, who is apparently stalking the streets but who knows how long that'll take to find him..."

"The Duel Disks themselves, huh?" Rene asked after hearing the mention of it. After listening to what the others had to say, Rene added, "If someone could modify the programming in the duel disks to produce such an impact, then that could also be a possibility regarding Mr. Tenjo's death...It seems like both the duel disk and the Shadow Game idea could both be possible theories to explain what happened to him..."

Rene doesn't really mind where the group would head next, whether it would be finding Mr. Arclight or going to another place in Heartland.

(To Arial, Rene, Robert, and Klive)

As Roy entered the park he saw some of his group members have already arrived before him as well as talking to two other people. He walked over to the group with his hands in his pockets. "I hope your search had better intel then mine." He said with little to no emotion. "I was able to confirm that illegal dueling was indeed linked to Mr.Tenjo's death."

(Charlotte.)
Dominic noticed Charlotte come along and perked up, happy others weren't going to let this settle without answers. At the question of others, he only knew of a couple. "So far, as much as I know, it's just me and my investigations partner who are interested." Looking over and spotting the bus, Dominic stood up off the bench, readying his card, and looked back at Charlotte, "She's apparently found another interested as well, I forgot to add. So if you come along as well, it'd be four people on the case, which is better to the extreme!"

The bus he hopped on was heading back to the station, from there he would get on another which was heading to the ports. Finding an empty bench Dominic sat down with his bag in his lap to leave the second seat open. He watched the city pass him by and eventually it stopped at the station, and he hopped off with a gesture of thanks to the driver. "Mm.. Next bus should arrive soon, then."

Important Action

After seeing Blair depart and saying goodbye to her, Monika stood still on her rollerblades.

"So am I just useless?" thought Monika as Mrs Flagstarr walked away. "This is unfair... She seemed to need help and she refused it, too."

Then, the student noticed Officer Adams lagging behind. "He's not like Flagstarr, he's more approachable... I need to get at least some informations, or I just spent an entire afternoon getting in trouble with cops for nothing." she thought, then yelled at Adams: "Officer Adams, I'd have just a question for you...", and kept talking loudly enough so Mrs Flagstarr could listen. "Is it alright if I skate in the city or there are some places where skating is forbidden? Of course, I'll be using the helmet all the time."

Monika skated slowly towards Adams, hoping that he would also turn around and approach her, then thought about the right words to say...

When Officer Adams seemed to turn around, she also said, much more softly, so that the Lieutenant couldn't hear her: "Ah, that Mrs Flagstarr... I have to say... that working with her on a case like this one (by the way, she told me it was crazy) doesn't seem to be very enjoyable, uh? Is she always like that?". And then, after a pause: "If Flagstarr gets too far, don't worry, I think I could catch up with her with my rollerblades and let you catch up with her too."

If those were "the right words", probably Adams would have replied to Monika more easily, hopefully giving her some informations that Flagstarr didn't want to share... She felt like she had to try. Her shyness didn't matter when she wasn't feeling respected and was treated as "a random civilian girl".

"Agreed; that's the reason why I said the results didn't include those done underground." Arial replied without looking up from her D-Pad. As Rene and the boys continued their conversation, the tomboy had her eyes fixated on a particular document containing information on duel disk "malfunctions." It was only when Roy confirmed their suspicions that she looked up. "Seriously?! That's sweet, Roy! At least that narrows down the search for us!" Arial quickly looked back down and began typing furiously for Arclight Industries' hours of operation. "Ya see, Rene and I found a creepy legend about Shadow Games; the loser in each of those types of duels has their soul sucked into a card, which is basically death. Of course, that should only a legend (I hope), so why don't we go for the most logical reason first: The malfunctioning Duel Disks?"

Arial then pulled up the webpage that contained Arclight Industries' Hours of Operations. With a few taps, she managed to project the hologram so that everyone around her could see it. "If this is up-to-date, Mr. Arclight should be closing down for today real soon, which could mean that he will be heading back to Arclight Industries now. Of course, he could still be wandering around the city too so... Why_not split up and search around again?" Arial suggested. "We now have six... No, five?, people here... Roy, where's Monika? Didn't she say that she was going to the police station with you?"

Blair saw a group of students gathered up in the square. As she approached, she heard one of them say something about Monika going to the police station. She pulled up on her bike and answered her question for Roy. "She already talked to them. They wouldn't tell us anything."

Klive appraised the new arrivals, briefly allowing a moment of instinctive judgement and then dissecting what made Klive think such things whilst considering motives. In the end, it didn't matter too much, they were all looking for the same thing; information, but why so many people now? Initially Klive thought the rest of the class didn't really care but now... Klive decided to keep a much closer eye on the class now.

"Hiya, i'm Klive, this is Robert" there was a quick gesture to indicate said person "I think we're all in the same class." Klive introduced himself and Robert.

Arial's plan of spreading out and searching made obvious sense, due the fact that they were a group of 5 now, well 6 after the new girl came in. Robert happily greeted Roy and the new girl along with Klive, having it click in his mind just WHO this girl was after looking at her 'Wait, could this be just coincidence or great luck? Or is this even her?'

"So, what would your name be?" He looked directly at the girl, seeing if he was right.

Paul hopped off the bus and walked towards Center Square. The bus ride over there had taken forever it, seemed. Every single red light that driver could've hit, did. He must have been able to check his deck at least 20 times by the time he finally arrived at his destination. Still somewhat pissed off at the painfully slow ride, he noticed a group of students nearby, and not just any students. He recognized all of them from class. It also seemed that person from before, Klive, was with them as well. He gave his bag a little tug, attempted to calm himself down a bit, and walked over to the group.

{Klive, Rene, Arial, Blair, Roy, Robert}

"Hey, aren't you guys from my class?" he said, as friendly as he could muster. He looked over and sure enough, Klive was with them. "Oh, hi again, Klive."

{Hiss, Dominic}

Arthur stepped down from the bus and looked around, grinning lightly. He saw another youth waiting by himself. Must be the guy we're here to meet, he reasoned. He approached the young man and gave him a nod, waiting on the girl to introduce them. He looked at the two students, giving each of them an appraising glance. They can handle themselves, he decided. He then looked down at his D-Pad and opened the teacher's group message to the class. He scrolled through to Zander's name and selected it, setting him as the target for a new message:

At East Heartland Bus Station with 2 other students. Following a lead from samurai. Guy named Ike Johnson is curating a museum exhibit in town. Something about Ancient Egyptian mythology. Probably connected to illegal duels. Any news?

"Blair Emmeline. I'm trying to figure out what killed the professor. Normally I wouldn't care about this sort of thing, but there's no ready explanation for the death." She looked about at the group. She wasn't sure they were here for the same reason, but it wasn't a huge leap to assume so.

Klives eyes gleamed. Xe waved a greeting to Paul as he arrived but xe was more interested in quizzing Blair so xe skipped over the boys arrival. "Hi, yes, ditto. We were actually looking for you after being unable to ask the Duel disks creator, d'you think it's possible to modify a Disk to have lethal capabilities?" Straight to the point.

[Chevaleresse]

Blair nodded. "Yes. I can't think of how one could do so without leaving an obvious mark on the body. Electrocution would leave scorch marks and more visible damage - not to mention bruising and such from the victim flailing - and poison generally has noticeable physical effects, and there would have to be a visible injection point." Blair fell silent for a moment. "I suppose something affecting the brain, possibly though the Duel Gazer could be feasible, but I don't have knowledge of any way to do so without leaving any marks on the body." Blair turned off her bike and stuffed the key into a pocket, then got off and began to pace. "I suppose you could do something with a very forceful kind of electromagnetic wave - you know, the kind in the movies that shorts out electronics? They do that in real life too. If you found the right way to apply them, I suppose it might be possible to kill someone by causing a sufficient disruption in the brain. This is all speculation, though, I really have no idea if that's biologically possible without just blowing a hole in someone."

As Red turned around the corner, she could see a roller coaster zoom by with scream kids. She was here, Heartland Park. As Red walked through the entrance, she saw a group of students. "Aren't those my classmates?...Maybe I should walk over and ask..."

*Grrrrr* Red's stomach had a different idea.

"O Right. I'm here to eat." Red then turned left down the road towards the food. From her left to her right, food stands of different kinds filled the streets. From Alligator bites to cotton candy, anything you could have wished for was there. Red finally stopped at a pizza stand and ordered two slices of pepperoni pizza and one large cup of Ski. She then found a table and started to inhale her food. The taste of cheese melted in her mouth and satisfied her hunger. After Red finished, she began to slow slip her ski and think about her day. She still couldn't figure out why she ended up in the garden or how she received a blank card.

"I may never figure this out....."

Once Arthur finished sending his message, Setsuna spoke up while pointing with both hands to the tall guy next to him. "Dominic, this is Arthur. He's from our homeroom class and I sort of ran into him at the hotel when I got my information."

She the pointed to Dominic, "Arthur, this is Dominic, boxing nut, extreme guy, and as of our lunch break today, my investigation partner."

"Now that introductions are out of the way, let's head to the port and look for this Ike Johnson. We can share the information we got during the investigation while we head to the Port."

Ken's eyes widened slightly as Charles just brushed past him and retreated inside, locking the door. Even for Charles, that was wierd: Not once had he ever seen the normally nice man act so odd. He had to admit, he kind of didn't want to just let this go, he was curious. Reaching for another cookie and slightly chewing on it, Ken knocked on the door and raised his voice, confident that Charles would be able to hear.

"Hey, Charles? What's the matter mate? You're not normally so jumpy and uh... cold. Lemme in and let's talk, okay? I'm not going to do anything to you, okay?" Ken asked, wanting to ease Charles's mind.

You steadily continue in your pursuit... Untill you turn into a small alleyway, which apparently is a dead end: Adam is there, he was hoping to hide from you, but between his impressive size and the fact that there is nowhere to hide in this short alleyway, he now has no choice but to face you.

You calmly walk towards him, the last thing you want is for a guy that big to go berserk, so you try to make him understand that you have no hostile intentions... But the moment you take a step towards him, he starts shouting!

"Stay away from me! Stay away! I don't want to end like the professor!"

He says. And seeing that you don't stop, he does something you weren't expecting: he grabs his D-Pad! And the moment he does so, a mysterious circle of what appear to be blue flames surrounds the two of you, isolating you from the rest of the world! It seems you have no choice but to duel...

You have decided to investigate the port first. However, as soon as you reach the dock area, you run into a familiar face.

Exclaims mister Arclight, marching straight towards you.

"You look like strong, passionate duelists, are you not? And that makes you our dear customers! Are you having AR duels? Ah, of course you are, AR duels are the hottest trend in town! And of course you are using the world-famous Arclight Duel Gazers right? Can I ask you for your honest opinion on our products?!

The guy seems as talkative and enthusiastic as ever: you don't have time for this, but he doesn't look like he will give up easily... On the other hand, maybe he could know something: what will you do?

Avoid challenging him to a duel for now: I am planning to have him challenge Jory during the next Recap Post...

"Mister Michitaka is... A bizarre fellow. I mean you saw how he dresses right? But that aside, he is very secretive, nobody knows where he is from, or what he is doing in town... He always talks about being late to a meeting, but you know what? I followed him once, and he didn't have any meeting at all! He just strolled around the western area, where the High School is located! Isn't that weird?"

Tacos obtained Info: "Ayatane usually hangs around in the High School area"!

It doesn't look like you can milk any more ino from the guy: what will you do now?

The fortune teller stares intently in your eyes, then she takes what looks like a normal Duel Monsters deck, and starts disposing the cards on the table: sure enough, each monster is fashioned after a Major Arcana of the Tarot deck, so you guess she can still predict the future using that...

"Your future... Is strange, the info provided by the various cards seem to openly contraddict one another. You eem to have the power and the will to shape your own future, but this apparently conflicts with your own destiny, with the path already laid out for you. In other words: your own will pushes you in a direction, but factors you cannot control pull you in the opposite one. Which side will prevail? It is honestly impossible to tell at this time. Will you show me that card please?"

1) "What card?"

2) "... Here."

3) "Seriously Anna, this isn't funny anymore!"

"It was the professor himself who started spreading that rumor! That is the 'nonsense' I was talking about: he kept repeating that the end of the world is at hand, and that the sign would be the appearance of 108 cards with mysterious powers. And if you ask me, the pyrotechnic show from earlier is enough of a mysterious power..."

He seems to ponder something.

"Anyway no, the professor I am talking about is not professor Tenjo: his name is... Eppes. Robert Eppes."

You recognize the name, it's a math professor at your school.

It is at this point that Pixl enters the room: all he has heard is Eppes' name (which is of course familiar to him). What will you guys do now? Maybe ask for more info about the guy as well as his wereabouts? *wink wink*

Adams smiles.

"What are you planning to do? Carry me while rollerblading?"

He seems to get serious.

"Jokes aside, I am sorry about Lieutenant's behaviour, she is really stressed lately, so please don't hold it against her... She really hates the idea that duels could be something more than a game for kids, so all these rumors about illegal duels make her even more nervous... She is even refusing to look into the report that a mysterious duelist has been spotted in the area around the High School, despite the obvious connection! But as long as duels are involved, she will refuse to..."

"ADAMS LESS BLATHERING AND MORE WALKING! WE ARE LATE!"

Flagstarr's voice cuts the conversation short.

"I'm sorry, I must go..."

Adams apologizes as he leaves. Was there a hint hidden in his words?

You can hear Charles' voice from the inside. He really sounds shocked.

"I-I am s-sorry, b-but I really d-don't want to talk about it! Go away, please..."

Now this is suspicious... What will you do?

"What's going on? Are you talking about Tenjo? Why would you end up like him?" so many questions popped up in Lane's head and he had no idea where to start. He just threw the most obvious ones first, but seeing Adam grabbing his D-pad, the blond had no choice. "Fine! If I beat you in a duel, I want answers!" he said when blue flames started to surround them.

What's going on here? What are those flames? I need answers!

Zander was confused as to why a guy like that was hanging around a school. "Alright, thanks for all your help." Zander waved to the receptionist as he made his way out the door. He felt his D-Pad vibrate and he pulled it out to check who had messaged him. A message from Arthur, alright.

Alright, I've got some leads on Ike Johnson as well as Armor Guy. Apparently Ike is in town to cure an exhibit in the museum, as you know. He also seems to act suspiciously, looking over his shoulder and what not. He should be at the port right now. Since you're chasing Ike, I'll get Armor Guy. His name is Ayatane Michitaka and he apparently hangs out around the school. Seems suspicious enough to me, so I'm gonna head over there and see what's up.

As Will walked in the door of The Bootleg, he heard Jack talking about professor Eppes. He didn't hear the comments about Tenjo, and if he had, he might have been inclined to be over the whole mess and just grab a drink. However, since he didn't hear that, he possibly made the mistake of asking Jack, "Ahh Jack my old friend! A relief to see your face right now." Will smiled as he sat down at the bar. "What was this about Eppes? He works at the same school as me, you know."

Just as he was about to order a drink, the man noticed Luna. He chuckled and said, "Hey, aren't you one of the kids from the school? Not another from 2-2 are ya? Haha, I don't suppose you're in here for a drink?" He laughed at himself for even thinking of that conclusion.

With the people in Central Square (Arial, Rene, Roy, Blair, Robert and Klive)

"Finally I am here..." panted Monika. She'd just arrived in Central Square, after the conversation with Officer Adams, when she saw some known faces.

"There you are! Arial, Rene, Roy, Blair... then Klive and Robert, right?" she said, skating towards the group of her classmates.

After approaching them, she couldn't stand still on her rollerblades, because of her enthusiasm, and sometimes needed to move to avoid falling.

"So, Liutenant Flagstarr doesn't seem able to resolve the case, mostly because she hates the idea that it's connected with Duels... Blair was there when Flagstarr told us this. But there's more." When she was sure that everyone was listening to her (despite her voice) she continued: "Adams told me something more... He said that there's a mysterious Duelist near our High School. Of course, his superior doesn't want to investigate, because this is related with Duels, but this mysterious Duelist, as Adams told me, is clearly linked with Mr Tenjo's death."

Monika was very satisfied and proud of herself for getting that informations, although it didn't seem this important. She asked "So, what should we do?" and waited for the replies of her classmates.

Hmm...this story just keeps getting weirder and weirder. It's all got something to do with these weird cards though. Luna quickly snapped back to reality when she heard someone else come into the pub. "Oh Lane, it took you a while. Did you make out with...HEY! You're not Lane! Eh, whatever. Neither of you happen to know where Eppes is right now, do you?"
